Dv7-2000 Hard drive cable

I have a dv7-2000 laptop, and I have an extra SSD I'm trying to connect to it, but I can't seem to find a source for the cable.  HP seems to use some strange connector, and they don't seem to sell it, even as a replacement for a broken one. Where can I get a replacement SATA cable for a dv7-2000?  I'd prefer from HP directly, but I'd take a reasonable third party at this point, too.  Thanks,John

Did I not say INTERNALLY many times?  USB 2.0's max speed is 480mbps, a full order of magnitude slower than the drive I have.  I'm trying to use this to make the computer FASTER (slightly) on load and retrieving big files, not slower! I would like to inform you that YOU are WRONG.  There IS A PORT/CONNECTOR on the board, you apparently aren't an experet or something. 1) the repair manual shows the capacity to add a 2nd drive in the 2nd drive bay, with a connector shown. 2) I'm looking at the connector RIGHT NOW, as I'm typing this!  There is a 2nd connector inside the computer!  How hard is it to get a stupid point-to-point cable for this thing?  It's not even an active data connection, if I wasn't going to use the drive for something else in a few months, I'd just solder wires directly to both ends for free.

  • HP envy dv7 2nd hard drive cable

    Hi all,
I recently purchased the HP ENVY dv7-7201sa, and was quite disappointed to find out that the 2nd hard drive caddy space did not come with a SATA cable to connect a secondy hard drive.
I have been unable to locate an appropriate cable, and was wondering if anyone knows where I would be able to purchase one? (I purchased the HP Pavillion version hoping this would fit, but the connction to the motherboard is smaller in the Envy model).
Really hoping someone would be able to help me.
    Thank you very much

  • Sata III hard drive cable compatible with older generation of macbook pro

Would my macbook ( 17 in mid 2009 ) be compatible with a new hard drive cable ( sata III ) ? I upgraded my hard drive to Samsung Pro 840 and wanted to upgrade my sata II cable to a sata III for faster read and write. Is this possible?

    Dave The Newbie,
replacing the cable will not increase the interface speed, just as putting racing slicks on a minivan won’t make it a dragster. I have the same model SSD in my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, and my MacBook Pro’s SATA interface is limited to SATA II, just like yours. Unless you’re planning on mainly running disk-bound apps, it’s not something that you’ll need to worry about — just enjoy the SSD as is.

  • 3 times of replacement of Hard drive Cable within 2 years

    Dear All,
I have been an iFan and loved Apple's products. I have been an owner of 4 iPods, 1 iPhone, 1 iPad and 1 Macbook Pro 13'' (bought at Jan 2010 from US online Apple store).
Unfortunately, it's incredible to say my Macbook Pro Hard Drive Cable required 3 times of replacements within 2 years. The first time of mal-function happen in the warranty period, so Authorized Apple Office replaced it. 6 months later, the bad "symptom" happen again with question mark folder on boot up screen and recovered after replacement of used hard drive cable. Six months later, question mark folder boot screen happen again and disappear after install a good HDD cable from another Macbook Pro.
You may imagine my disappointed to see "periodic" and costly repairs of my Macbook. It's unbeliveable for quality of an Apple product, which should have been better. One time of repair could be explained as "unlucky" or mistake on production line. 3 times within 2 years can not say as sporadic or random mistake. Obviously, there is an systemic problem with Apple HDD cables and  I can not sure it would be the last time I have spent money and time to replace a new cable. I worked in Vietnam, where it's not always easy to buy a new spare parts of Apple products.
Honestly, I never seen any of my PC laptops get any wrong on their HDD cable like my poor Macbook.
My case would be a very bad experience for an Macbook user.
Anyone can tell me how to prevent HDD cable from bad situation again?
Thank you very much in advance
    Regards

I doubt it. However, you should submit a complaint to Apple (this is not the right place for it).

Actually, that's not obvious at all.
First, SATA cable issues are not specific to Apple. You can find, for instance, plenty of complaints on Toshiba forums. (Off-hand, it does seem to me that we didn't use to have so many problems with the old, parallel, ATA cables, but I can't be sure.)
Second, you could, for instance, have a small random manufacturing defect in a component which touches the cable. When the component warms up, that defect might damage the cable. This would explain the short life of the cables in your machine w/o the necessity of postulating a systemic issue. Of course, this is pure speculation, but it demonstrates the defect in your logic.
Third, the fact is that we, the consumers, demand ever more powerful products, in ever smaller sizes and comparatively lower prices. Apple, which is no different from any other major corp, is reacting by, among other measures, cutting corners on quality (as well as finding cheaper labour elsewhere). This is the reality which all of us have helped to bring about.
I know full well that this is cold comfort to you. But I'm afraid there is nothing else. For most of us, life is hard, bitter, and unfair.
If I were you, I'd make sure to keep all the documentation about the SATA cable problems, and, if it happened again, I'd complain once more to Apple, this time escalating it as far up the corporate food chain as I could.

  • Can I use hard drive cable from 15" MBP in 13" MBP?

I'll start of with the tl;dr:
My mid 2012 13" MBP is acting up and I believe it's the hard drive cable that is broken. Thing is, I've got an early 2011 15" MBP with broken GPU. Can I salvage that cable and use in my 13" or will something go to ****?
Problem in general is my 13" MBP doesn't work properly with the connected hard drive. I can boot from an external drive without any issues and I can even see the internal one (luckily I could rescue all my files this way, albeit it transfering them was slow as ****) but I can't boot from the internal one, the computer just stucks on the apple logo forever.
I've also tried reinstalling the OS and managed to start the installer but after installing for roughly 5 hours it got stuck at "less than one minute remaning" over the night so I killed it. Then I tried putting the hard drive in a USB-case and it worked fine. And then I tried another working hard drive as the internal drive and experienced the exact same problem.
Edit: spelling From googling I've concluded that the mid 2012 13" MBP has had issues with broken hard drive cables, so I figured I'd try that. But it would be nice if I didn't have to buy a new one and wait for it to ship
    Any help is welcome!

" I've got an early 2011 15" MBP with broken GPU."
You know there's a recall on that model:
    Apple Recall:
    https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/
Yah don't think swapping the cables will work. Since there's a recall on your 15"  I wouldn't go messing around inside least you get rejected for recall for modding.

  • Hp g6-2040ca little hard drive cable?

Hello i have an hp g6-2040ca and ive broken that little cable that connects the hard drive to the motherboard. Does anyone klnow where i can find another one of these cables? i kind of need one to use the computer.

    Hi @mrawesome99
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a superb  place to find answers and ideas.
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More
I grasp you need a hard drive cable.
You should be able to purchase one at any computer supply store.  Places such as Office Depot, Future Shop or Walmart.
The specifications state that it is a SATA drive so you will need a SATA cable .
Here is a  link to the HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide, where you can locate the part number for a hard drive hardware kit.  Please see page 25, item 18 the last item in the list.
    I hope this helped.

  • Hard Drive Cable Faulty?

    Hi!
Yesterday I was working on my computer, closed the lid - not shut down (as I always do) to run to school, and found my computer not working once I got there.
At start up, the blinking folder with ? question mark appeared, signalling that the HDD couldn't be found. I don't recall bumping my computer, so I don't know what happened on the way to school.
I've sinced opened up my computer and connected the HDD with a SATA/USB adaptor, and found that the HDD is 100% working. I've booted from it, and that's how I'm writing this question now actually. It's much slower of course, so I want this fixed as soon as possible.
I've connected both a new HDD and SSD to the hard drive cable inside the computer, and neither were recognized. SO, that means I have 1 of 2 problems (I think). Either the hard drive cable (is that what it is called?) has failed, OR the spot where the hard drive cable snaps on to the motherboard (?) is damaged.
Are there other possibilities that I'm not thinking of?
Can you think of a method for me to test what the problem is? I could buy a new hard drive cable (with that infrared sensor part) for about $50 I think online, but that might not be the problem. Is that the first step that you would do? I don't have easy access to these parts, so assume I have nothing sitting around my house
I have a mid-2010 13" MBP. I'm going to take this opportunity to upgrade to a SSD, once I get the computer to recognize them again lol.
Thank you in advance for your help!!

Rarely if ever does the hard drive controller on any motherboard fail. In my 20+ years of work with and on computers I have never seen an Intel controler go bad. That's not to say it can't but for that to happen the rest of the board probably won't work either, IE no matter how or where you connect a drive the computer wouldn't boot.
So your problem is the cable, as pointed out by Clinton. this is a known weak link on all Macbook Pro computers.
    Zach Rogers wrote:
Thank you to the both of you. HDD ribbon cable / SATA cable will be replaced then I hope that solves the problem. I won't expect that the motherboard is faulty.

  • Would the ir censor go bad if the hard drive cable went bad sens they bout use the same cable?

what happend was that i have an intel ssd 80GB. i was installing a water colling system to my tower so i had to unplug my ssd. ones i had installed my water cooling sytem to my wotwer i pluged in my  sdd but it didnt work like if it had died. so i swipet out my macbooks hard drive for the ssd  to see if my macbook would reconise the hard drive in the utility but it didnt, and when i put my macbooks hard drive back in. the hard drive dosent get any power. you cant hear it turn on or anything. what i desisded to do is use the enclouser that you use for the optical drive and my mac boots up fine, could  my hard drive cable gone bad? if so why does the IR cencor work if they bouth use the same cable and end up in the same conector. i have a macbook pro mid 2009 5,5

2009 MacBook Pros are notorious for having sub-standard SATA cables. I'm 99% certain that's your problem. Even though the IR sensor is on the cable, that doesn't mean that the cable is good - nor does it mean that it's not faulty if it will boot with a hard drive but not with a SSD - SSDs are simply more 'needy' when it comes to a good SATA cable.
Visit www.ifixit.com and find the Apple part number and search for the item on eBay - much cheaper than buying from ifixit; although ifixit will have the instructions for installing the cable.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • I need a secondary Hard Drive cable

I have a DV7-T6b00 CTO Quad Edition lap top and want to add a second hard drive to it. I am having trouble finding it. I downloaded the maintenance manual for it and the part number I found was 665597-001. How can I find this number and get it ordered?

You can try to check for the right part number from the HP part store by entering your product number/serial number. You will know the part number required and you can buy it from HP.
Alternatively you can check some third party sites to find the HDD bracket and cable. I do not vouch for any thrid party sites, but to give you an example you can look here:

  • Pavilion Dv7 4165dx Hard drive failure and performance issues?

I have a pavilion dv7 4165dx notebook that was working great until a couple of months  when the performance of my machine started to decrease rapidly. I have performance issues with the machine because it takes 1 to 2 minutes to get from the welcome screen to the actual desktop and another 3 to 4 minutes for it to be ready to use. I already upgrade the memory from 4gb to 8gb but instead of going faster it goes slower and i also did a clean install of windows but it didn't help. Before i have problems it took maybe 30 to 50 seconds to go from the welcome screen to the actual desktop and 1 minute and 30 seconds to be ready to use and by the way i use soluto to tell me when the machine is ready for use. Then last week i notice that the headphone jack wasn't working properly so i contact hp and they told me to send them the laptop so i did, they replace the motherboard and they  send it back to me and i just got it today it got a little better but it still lags on the welcome screen and to open programs. I check the memory using memtest 86 and the memory it's fine, but i check the hard drive with HDD Regenerator 2011 and it show i have one delayed sector. Then i check on hd tune pro and it show me some WARNING on section Calibration retry count( as you can see on the picture below)  so my question is should i be worry and send it back to hp or what can i do to fix the problem i am having with this notebook?

I have the same laptop and have had issues with it since the day i brought it home. I have had it for a year now and am now replacing the hard drive for the 3rd time. My guess would be its your hard drive because most of the issues you seem to be having ar the same ones ive been dealing with for a while. I can say I'm very mad about the quality of this laptop and am in the process of  battling with HP over this issue. If you have a chance go online and look at all the hard drive issues that this laptop has had and even look at the HP forums for this issue it will irritate you and make you wonder why this hasn't been fixed yet!
