Dv7 2185dx ssd

I have an dv7 2185dx computer on windows  8 and I added a ssd to the empty memory bay. It is not reconized by the computer. What do i need to do to change that?

I use linux, and did the following command to get the SATAcontroller:
lspci | grep -i
SATA00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation ICH9M/M-E SATA AHCI Controller (rev 03)
I found the link to the (INTEL) that ICH9 SATA Supports up to 3GB, so it works with SATA revision 2.0 (SATA 3 Gbit / s) . Someone with more knowledge could help me?

  • SSD install on an HP Pavilion DV7-2185dx

I want to know what issues and hardware do I need to install a SSD 480gb drive in my laptop as the primary disk?  Please consider the SATA and power consumption when replying. Thanks!!!

Already considered. Neither the SATA type nor the power is a concern. Just remove the existing mechanical drive and install the SSD. The worst thing you can do is overthink. The one model SSD I would stay away from is Crucial MX100...I prefer the Samsung 850 Evo but you can't go wrong with any major brand.  The BIOS is set to fully support ahci and the SSD will actually use less power. Your laptop is SATA-II but a SATA-III SSD will downclock and run fine.  Your laptop can support a second hard drive so if you only have one now you can put your existing mechanical drive in the second bay. Newmodeus.com sells the seconf hard drive connector/caddy kits. Just be sure and get the right one for the dv7-2000 series; they vary a bit. The second hard drive kit makes cloning really easy too...can all be done inside the laptop.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

  • ENVY Dv7 dual SSD's win8 sees only drive 0, drive 1 not seen.

I have an ENVY DV7-7243cl laptop, I replaced the original 1TB HDD with my seagate 750 GB solid state hybrid drive, installed windows, no problems there, however yesterday I installed a second SSD (crucial 512GB). The BIOS sees both drives, but windows only sees the 750GB boot drive, if I put the new SSD on external USB windows sees the drive and allows me to initialize it. I'm not sure why two SSD's won't work together. Is there something missing a driver perhaps etc... I have the latest BIOS version F24

    Hello ggetchell,
Take a look at the HD & SSD Care and Maintenance Measures manual.  On page 7 it talks about advanced formatting for Windows installations...maybe something there may help??  This document may help as well.  Please let me know.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-6b76eo SSD upgrade

    Hi
I have the HP Pavilion dv7-6b76eo and I made a post here:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/HP-Pavilion-dv7-6b76eo-upgrade-HDD-SDD/td-p/3913164
but since no one replies I had to make a new post.
I have 2 slots on my motherboard, currently only the 1 being used of my HDD, which is slow and sux! I want to slot in an SSD next to my HDD and have my operating systems on the SSD and the HDD as storage... pretty straightforward, eh? It is!
Just wanna know now if it matter about the SSD's producer. The Service manual PDF from HP for my PC (found here - http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03043778.pdf ) tells me only that my pc supports the HP 160 GB (665985-001) solid-state drive found here - http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=665985-001 and it does not look too promising, in my opinion.
What if I want something else? How do I know if it will be compatible or not? Are they all compatible? Would you recommend me any producer. Anything to stay away from or any specific producer of SSD that I should use for upgrading my HP Pavilion dv7-6b76eo?
    PS
On my HP Pavilion dv7-6b76eo the processor and chipset are from Intel, not AMD, in case that is important to be mention in this context.

    Hi,
    My suggestion:
Clone existing HDD to new SSD (try Samsung, Crucial ...) then install new SSD on the primary slot, this will save a lot of hassles.
Format the old HDD, buy caddy & cable then install it on the second slot.
    1. There are many clone software around, you can buy one or try the following free:
      http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/five-apps/five-free-and-reliable-cloning-tools/
      http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-drive-cloning-software.htm
Some SSD vendors supply conling software for you too, normally you have to pay $10 to $15 more.
    2. Caddy and cable:

    Hi,
The chipset supports SATA III but I have seen some posts that SATA III SSDs worked at SATA II speeds..

  • Dv7-2185dx Power supply and Fan issues

A little while ago, my fan started making ridiculously loud noises under normal operating.  It sounded as though it was possibly grinding on something, and as my notebook's warranty expired some number of months ago, I decided to take it apart myself and try to diagnose it.
In the taking apart process, a bit of an issue happened, and long story short, two cables got pulled from their white jack head.  It was part of the power supply ( hp spare part # 536857-001), that had two parts that went into the system board, the top of which had a six pin jack head, and the bottom of which had a two pin jack head (with a red and black cable.  When I searched online for replacements, they only seemed to have the top half of the power cable, and not these other two mysterious wires.
After trying to set the wires back in and putting the computer back together, I managed to boot the machine up with essentially no problems.  However, this only lasted a short time in testing, because when I moved the computer back 10 feet to my room from the table I was working on, the screen would no longer power on.  So I began re taking apart the computer, and found out that the computer will still power on without those two wires in, but the screen appears to be completely off.  Not even just the back light failing, but the screen seemed to be completely off.
So this leaves me with a few questions that hopefully someone can answer.
    1)  What on earth do these two wires do or power?
    2)  What is the best way to repair the wire?
    3)  I'm pretty sure that the red wire is on the left side and the black wire on the right side, but can anyone confirm that?
    4)  Has anyone had any similar issues with the fan?  I'm assuming I'm going to have to replace it, but I don't really know.
    Thanks in advance,
    Matthew Nickolai
(photos incoming as soon as I can find a cable to connect my camera to my computer)

What is the real name to that part??? except my laptop is the dv7-2180us but i think our plugs are probably similar. Mine has a short and I tried to order it but ended up only getting the bigger plug instead of both of them. The part number you listed was the one that I ordered but its not the one that goes in my laptop. The pre sales support told me to speak to a technician but since mine is no longer in warrenty I have to call and more then likely they'll charge me or ill get some person I cant understand.

  • How connect lexmark t630 printer to hp dv7-2185dx usb

need setup instructions connect Lexmark t630 printer (old/wired) to HP laptop USB, tried , get error

You will need a USB to Parallel converter cable.  Make sure the cable you use is supported by your intended operating system.  I have heard good results using Belkin cables.
Note that for 64 bit versions of Vista or Windows 7 you will need a patch for the Deskjet 712c available here.

It will work but not at SATA-III speed. Your system maxes at SATA-II. You will not really detect any difference, however.

Well I have an hp pavilion dv7-2185dx it fell off my dresser and landed on the power cord witch broke and now I'm trying to figure out why it won't turn on even though the light by the power cord turns on when I plug it in and the battery light turns on after charging for a while. Pleas help.

You broke the motherboard but the AC jack is still in place. A lot more has to happen in there than just the charging light turning on and the battery charging.

  • IDT SRS settings don't stick

I want to (permanently) disable SRS on my machine.  I disable SRS in the IDT control panel, but it ALWAYS gets enabled every time I log in.  Disabling all IDT stuff in the msconfig startup tab results in no audio.  Disabling all but those items reauired to get sound running causes SRS to be automatically enabled with no interface to turn it off.  I'VE BEEN HIJACKED BY IDT!
Please tell me how I can permanently disable SRS!
SYSTEM:  HP Pavilion dv7-2185dx; Windows Vista Home Premium

    Hi,
The same problem happens with my new Dell Studio 1558. Even after formatting (not because of this issue, of course) my laptop and reinstalling Windows 7 from scratch, the application wouldn't let me save my preferences.  That was, disabling SRS.
I didn't want to uninstall the driver, so I analyzed the driver's Windows 7 registry. Luckily, these IDT guys left some programming code distributed among some registry values.  I read the code and figured out, more or less, what it does. So I changed some values and, since then, it's been working like a charm.
    This is my workaround:
    1. Go to "Run".
    2. Type "regedit", press Enter.
    3. Navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IDT\Config\EventExpressions\processmode".
    4. (optional) Right click on "processmode" key and click on Export. Type a name and choose a location to save the backup.
    5. Double click on and replace the following values' data with:
       - 021: if(modelocal==0,(SetSrsDword("Speaker1",srsLFX,0,0,0,"PKEY_SRS_Enable_LFX",0)),(0))
       - 045: if(modelocal==1 && RTCLocal==0,(SetSrsDWord("Speaker1",srsLFX,0,0,0,"PKEY_SRS_Enable_LFX",0)),(0))
       - 171: if(modelocal==10,(SetSrsDWord("Speaker1",srsLFX,0,0,0,"PKEY_SRS_Enable_LFX",0)),(0))
    6. Restart Windows.
    I hope it helps!

  • Wireless card upgrade

    Hi,
I would like to upgrade the old Intel WiFi Link 5100 wireless card in my DV7-2185dx to a new wireless AC card. Would the AC card be compatible? If so, which card would be recommended? I have an AC router and a USB adapter that works great, I just would like to have something internal. Maybe even a combo card with bluetooth to free up one of my USB ports.
    Thanks

    Hi,
These laptop still have the whitelist in the BIOS. You can't use anything else except cards from the list of compatible components in the Service Guide for your laptop.

  • Intel 5100 AGN replacement with an Intel 5300 AGN

I have an Intel WiFi 5100 and I was told to purchase a 5300 card as a replacement.  The laptop starts, but stops and tells me that there is unregistered hardware trying to start and windows will stop it immediatley.  HOW DO I INSTALL THE NEW DRIVERS for a presplash screen in windows 7?

I have an HP Pavilion DV7-2185dx and the Intel website was the one who directed me to the 5300 saying it was more stable and even though the third antenna connection would be open, the performance would more than make up for the lose of the WiFi extentended distance.  AND just so you know:  This network adapter had been working fine for years and years with little or no issues, then about 6 months ago it started to act up, dropping the signal and just working slowly.  I tried, but was unsucecessful in downloading and installing the up to the minute drivers for this 5100.  And finally, this is the mindblower:  The card works extremely and without fault under the Ubuntu OS.  I switched from W7 to U11 with the dual boot and NO ISSUES!  SO, I believe it is something that MS has done with their many, many updates that come over constantly.  They must have updated something else and screwed up the Intel drivers.  If you look online, you will see hundreds of people with the same or similar issues that remain unresolved since 2011, with the only resolution being the use of a USB Network Key, of which I always had as a backup and troubleshooting device.  So, before you look to chastise me for listening to an Intel tech, perhaps you should read the thousands of angry customers who have had their NIC go bad and HP and Intel have NO **bleep** ANSWER!!!  Some crap, to say the least... PS...As I said the card works WONDERFULLY using UBUNTU 11, so I don't believe it is the card, but rather the software that is controlling it.
