Dv7-3010so BIOS support for large 2nd HDD

I'm planning on installing a second hdd in my W7 Entertainment PC (1st HDD 320 GB SATA) and I've found a caddy, the drive I have is 9.5 mm thick and there is a 750GB unit with the same thickness.
My question is: will the BIOS recognize a 750 GB disk?
Previous notebooks I've had have been throttled so that it wasn't possible to install much larger disks.
This question was solved.

Yes the BIOS will have no problem. The 750 gig drive will work like a treat. SATA hard drives are not BIOS size limited like we used to see with IDE drives. Your last laptop must have been in the Windows 2000 era because since XP Service Pack 2 and Pentium 4 processors (2002-3 or so) even IDE drives have used Large Block (48 bit) addressing, and there has not really been a hard drive size limit, but I am old enough to recall when 512 megs, then 8.4 gigs, then 32 gigs then 123 gigs was the insurmountable barrier.

I have a MacBook Pro running 10.4.11 and I've also seen this problem. There are several Windows XP systems that DO NOT experience this problem. After reading this update, it appears this is directly related. Does anyone know if there are plans to back port these updates to previous releases?
It's getting fairly critical that we get this solves as having this many computers but no internet access makes them a lot less useful.
I'm willing to collect any data required to assist in debug of this problem.

  • BIOS support for DTR Cpu's

Just wondering if anyone knew if MSI was working on better support for DTR and mobile Cpu's with it's next bios revision?
It's neat that I can get my CPU to run 1.5v and 10x multi through clockgen, but It'd be really nice if I could just set it and forget it in bios...

I realy hope so, as i can only run it at proper mutlipliers with 1 memory stick in slot 1, not sure if this is because of the corsair memory, or the boards support for dtr's (i think it is the later).

  • Hebrew support for nano 2nd gen and ITunes

    Hi,
I have a new ipod nano. I've installed ITunes, and all my hebrew named files are being displayed with strange font (Giberish)
Is there any way to get hebrew fonts support for the ipod nano and the ITune 7.0 software ?
    Dani

I know that this question has been asked before on these forums. Have you done a search for this regarding Hebrew on these forums? Although the links provided above do not offer support for the nano. Have you tried doing a search on google for a possible solution to your question. It might be good to leave feedback regarding support for hebrew text for the ipod at the link below.

  • No BIOS support for USB? Cannot boot from USB HDD

    Hi,
I was attempting to install a couple of operating systems (Linux, Windows Vista CTPs) on my external hard disk (USB 2.0, Firewire). And I cannot seem to - because there does not seem to be any way to specify USB device support in your boot sequence. It seems the BIOS configuration is limited to these 5 basic icons (no text underneath to even let you know what they stand for) - which seem to stand for HDD, CD/DVD, network, etc, but no USB hard drives (I don't believe FDD counts)?
Windows Vista's installation for example complains that the BIOS does not support booting off my external hard disk - as does linux.
    Or am I missing something . . . ?
    Regards,
    -krish

    Hi Krish
As far as I know it is not possible to boot from external HDD. If you want to install more different operating systems you can do it directly on the notebook HDD or even install them as virtual machine. I use VMware Workstation and I have install two different operating systems there (W2K and Linux).

  • Support for larger hard disks...?

just a question regarding hard disk compatibility...
i am planning to purchase a faster, much larger capacity hard disk, but i always think a lot regarding compatibility.
from my previous experience, i used a driver from a known hd company but unfortunately it ruined my old board.  Now, i just have to be sure whether that hard disk that i will purchase will run in my system.
What are the things that i should know before i purchase a new one?  (i am planning to purchase a 40Gb 7200 hard disk)

... so, what motherboard do you have, and what BIOS-version? I would be VERY surprised if your new HDD would NOT be supported, btw!

  • Support for large blacklist in web proxy server

I am looking at a way of loading a very large blacklist file (1 million entries). Since Apache looks up each entry in the DNS when it loads, the built in server in Mac OS X Server 10.4 may not be the best option.
Any suggestions as to the best solution?

I guess I wondered how Apache handles that many entries. For a start, you can't load the blacklist into Apache using Workgroup Manger---it grinds for a few minutes then quits, having run out of memory (according to console). Then, when I edited the blacklist manually into the http.conf file and started Apache---nothing happened. At least, several minutes later, web services had still not started. At that point I left and went home. (And posted my query to Discussions). That was last night.
I have just confirmed that it still hasn't come back after running overnight, so I guess I answered that part of my own question. I was looking at squid myself. It's what used to run on this server, but when Apple enabled web proxying I dropped back to the pure Apple supported method. Now it looks as if I have to add squid back in, with the extra process that goes along with that.

  • Do MSI intend to implement BIOS support for IOMMU in its 890FXA-GD70 ??

All three of Asus 890FX boards officially support IOMMU in their BIOS -
    see the following two links:
    http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20100609185547531&SLanguage=en-us&board_id=1&model=M4A89TD%20PRO/USB3

    http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20100606232119109&board_id=1&model=Crosshair+IV+Formula&page=1&SLanguage=en-us
Now we ask for MSI's official stance on implementing IOMMU support in an upcoming BIOS for its 890FXA-GD70 motherboard.
And, if affirmative answer could you give us an approximate date when to expect a beta BIOs to try out?
The following OS environments should be able to take advantage of any hardware I/O virtualization support:
    -Xen 4
    -Linux+KVM
    -Vmware ESX(i) (VMDirectPath)
    -Parallels Workstation Extreme 4.
-Plus there's also a IOMMU wish ticket out for Oracle's Virtualbox...

I contacted AMD a few weeks ago to clarify whether the IOMMU feature is available in the 890 FX chipset and this was their response:
"Thank you for contacting AMD. I would like to verify for you that yes, the 890FX chipset does offer the IOMMU feature, however you will want to keep in mind that manufacturers can decide to enable or disable this feature through the BIOS and therefore you will want to verify with manufacturer of your specific board. But in short, yes it does offer the ability to do so."
    Pre-Sales Support -> http://us.msi.com/msi_user/PreSaleForm.aspx
I had contacted pre-sales support before purchasing my board and they said IOMMU was supported, however now that I have the board I know that the bios does not have the necessary support.  Most likely they just thought I was asking about SVM.
I submitted a support ticket asking when/if they were planning to add support but again there was some confusion about it being different from SVM.  Still waiting to hear back, I'll let you know when I do.

  • SIM card not supported for the 2nd time

My initial iphone 4 was broken beyond repair, under warranty I forked out the cash to receive a replacement. A replacement which told me my sim was not supported - receiving a replacement micro SIM from my carrier it STILL DID NOT WORK. I sent my replacement away, and received a replacement for my replacement. SIM card still not supported. SIM works fine with any other iphone 4, i've tested it on several other computers and completed full restore. Is it just me or does Apple seem to be trolling me?

I bought an iphone from o2 yesterday and got the micro sim activated today, inserted it and itunes says the sim carrier is not supported :S yet the phone is from o2 and so is the sim! And the sim works fine in a normal o2 phone when inserted with the bigger tray.
I have taken it out and put it in again but no luck! I rang o2 and they said they are sending me a replacement micro sim but i have read about the problem being in the phone (well at least it was in the 3gs)!
I'm so gutted - owned an iphone for 24 hours without using it think im going to o2 and then the apple shop tomorrow! Not at all happy...

  • BIOS support for SATA-3 / Vertex 3 SSD

Just got the feedback from Lenovo
    ==
Our BIOS tends to do a check for "authorized" drives. Assuming the drive would pass our white list (I don't know for sure without directly trying it), then yes, it would work at SATA 600 (a.k.a SATA 3 speeds)."
    ==
So please put the Vertex 3 (the market leading SSD) on the white list in the BIOS so that it utilizes SATA-3 performance.
Many customers worldwide are eagerly awaiting this - including me

I do not believe that for one second. OEM BIOS' are known to check addon cards against a whitelist but they have never been known to whitelist disk drives. You should be able to use any SATA drive that fits into the system.
EDIT: The T410s also happens to use 1.8" SATA drives, therefore you will not be putting a Vertex 3 into it unless you use the ultrabay caddy.

  • BIOS support for CPU upgrade

Hello...we have a ca. 5 year-old dv6-1253cl notebook that I've upgraded to 8GB memory, new SDD, new USB 3.0 card...what I'd like to do next is replace stock Intel P7550 processor with either the Intel T9xxx or an Intel P9xxx series.  From the service manual, the system board/chipset will support up to the T9900 @ TDP = 35W, and up to the P8800 @ TDP = 25W.  My question is:  can I go beyond the P8xxx to P9xxx (e.g., P9700) even though that series isn't specifically called out in manual?  Others have successfully swapped out P7xxx for T9xxx CPUs on this particular model, but I'm inclined to maintain close to the stock TDP specs, and keep to P-series.  Is this possible?  Thanks in advance for any advice given.

I think I have the same family line as yours and I did upgrade it to a T9900 and it works great. I think I got like 4gig in it right now and formatted it to Windows 7x64 Ultra Sp1.

  • Where would i get 2nd hdd cable for hp dv7-series (long cable) that would ship to finland.

Where would i get 2nd hdd cable for dv7 series (long one) THAT would ship to Finland. (as the subject says eh')

    Hei:
It depends on where in the dv7 model series your PC falls.
There are 2 types of second HDD cables. The one Kamat pointed out for the dv7 6xxx series, and then there is this one at the link below for these dv7 series:
     http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=345&zenid=b451f3afd6d86cd...
So, you will need to know what dv7 you have.
I believe they ship worldwide. A forum member from Italy got his from here. That is how I know about this site, and all about the fact that there are 2 types of 2nd HDD cables for dv7's.
The only part number referenced for a 2nd HDD cable in the service manual is for the dv7-6xxx series.

  • Which 2nd hdd adaptor does T40 support?

After looking through the Lenove support site and here, I found there are three ultrabay adapters for a 2nd HDD,
    41U3148, 62p4554 and 40Y8725
62p4554 seems to be the officially recommended part for T40 series, and support IDE HDs, however now it's easier to find SATA HDs , and I'm also considering to add an SSD, which also requires SATA interface.
I'd like to know if the SATA version ultrabay 40Y8725 can be used on T40?
And anyone can fill me in on their respective data transfer rate? Many thanks.
If I don't use SSD, but an adapter for CF cards, can I get similar speed compare to a good HDD?
I just want to know which part will be the bottle neck on speed. Thanks.

want to ask everybody here your opinions about using CF card+adaptor to replace hard drive.
After some searching, it seems that all the fast enough CF cards are still very expensive, and can only hold a XP system installation. Win7 probably will require a lot of space then need a really large CF card then it's pointless. For large size (from 32 GB to 128 GB) now seems SSDs are comparable to CF card, or even cheaper.
I really want to hear your thoughts, and if you have any experience to share with me, that would be great. I'll take as my own references.
