  • Is there a way to prevent MacOS from initializing second hard disk

My second hard disk (using optibay slot) is a TrueCrypt encrypted backup disk of critical information (this is company policy).
Because of this encryption, the second hard disk is not recognized and mounted "properly", and on starting up the dialog box always pops up giving the user the option to INITIALIZE the disk (which would destroy the data).
I know that there are probably other ways to back up the data some other way, but please, assuming that this setup is preserved (i.e. I do not confront the company powers-that-be), how can I suppress the dialog box vis-a-vis the second hard disk, or prevent the initialization of the second hard disk? I don't want either myself or my kids to accidentally press "initialize" and POOF there goes the data!
I cannot get methods with /etc/fstab to work (along the lines of noauto) because the unrecognised partition/disk is not successfully mounted in the first place, therefore I have been unable to derive the UUID or LABEL.

This question was also posed in http://superuser.com/questions/117444/prevent-mac-os-x-from-prompting-disk-initi alization-formatting
Seriously, is there no script or method to achieve this? It should be out there...

  • How can i install windows 7 on my second hard disk while the first hard disk running with windows 8.1

    I have Toshiba laptop P-75 model :
this model have two slots for the hard disks , on my first hard disk i am running the default windows 8.1 which came with the original condition (when i bought my laptop) , since i am a civil engineer many of my field programs  is not working on the
windows 8.1 version and the rest programs barely works appropriate!
I want to download windows 7 on the second hard disk, thus having dual boot in order to chose which windows i want to use.
    thanks in advance
    ENGR. Saeed Al-Khaled

You need to consult with Toshiba as this is a hardware specific problem and you may not be able to install Windows 7 dues to lack of hardware drivers and/or the laptop being configure for Secure Boot which Windows 7 does not cope with either.
It is your responsibility to do the research for this project to ensure compatibility and needed hardware drivers.

Is it possible to install Lion on the second hard disk on my Mini (2010) Snow Leopard Server, and switch between Lion and Snow Leopard? I like those voices Lion has in speech.

When baltwosaid NO emphatically, that was described as CORRECT ANSWER. Ditto in the caeses of the radically different answers from  Camelotand Matt Clifton
Could it be that CORRECT ANSWER needs better defining by Apple?
That apart, yes, switching might involve rebooting. About the voices, well, I was the other day adding voice to a commentary in a video I was working on. There's only American English accent in SL — Lion I believe has British ones as well.
Why not, I wondered, try to install Lion purely for academic interest, maybe with an SD card (Sandisk Ultra II, 16GB) as Tom Nelson says is possible at http://macs.about.com/od/macoperatingsystems/ss/Perform-A-Clean-Install-Of-Os-X- Lion-On-Your-Mac.htm

  • Windows server 2008 R2 is not showing the second hard disk.

    Hi,
We are having two windows server 2008 R2. In that we have, two hard disk and each with 146GB storage capacity. But it is displaying only the storage capacity of a single hard disk. Seems like the second hard disk in not recognized.
What can be done to clear this?
    Regards
    Manoj S

    Hi,
As Burak mentioned, first you need to check if it displayed in Disk Management.
If so, see if you can initial it, create a volume and assign a drive letter.
If not, check if it is recognized in BIOS. Also test if it could be recognized in another computer.

  • Switch 10e sw3 hard disk bay

I, I'm planning to buy a switch 10e.unfortunately, at the moment i have no info about the hard disk bay in the keyboard dock.is it there one?the model number is Sw3-013-12CF thanks!

There is a thread here about putting a drive into the keyboard on a Switch, but it might be about the Switch 11 instead of the 10. The gist of it was that there is room for the drive in the standard keyboard but you have to source an Acer part for the cable. Without the cable nothing works, with it the combo worked fine.

  • Need advice on second hard disk configuration/moving folders/...

    Hello everyone!
I just bought a second internal 250gig hard disk, because my first one was getting full.
As far as I heard it is advised to keep the Logic program and the OS on one disk, and to do all recordings and save all projects on a second disk. Am I correct so far?
Now, of course all my previous projects are located on the same disk as my OS and Logic Program.
How do I safely move all projects (and their soundfiles) to my second disk? Can I just move the folders to the new disk and will all projects work? Or are there special procedures to be made? I would hate to do things which cause all projects to be scrambled and unusable.
Please give as much 'step by step' explanations as possible...
And if you have any other remarks or tips, I'd be glad to hear about them!
I am aware that for my future recordings I will have to change the record path in Logic to my new second drive, so no need to write about that...
    Cheers!

If they are indeed saved as 'projects', just move the folders where you want them.
    It is that easy.

    Hi,
Yes you can, you need something like this to hold the HDD (or SSD):

  • Formating a second hard-disk

I have just installed a second hard-drive, a seagate 160gb which is the same as the start-up hard drive. I have used Disk Utility to format the new hard drive to extended journaled. I thought that after doing so anything dropped into the 2nd hard-drive would automatically go there, but I see it actually copies the original folder- thus taking in some cases a bit of time. Is this the way "slave" hard drives work? or is there something I need to do? Any help would be appreciated John
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   G5 2Gb Ram 2Gb

John, if you hold the option key while dragging files or folders it will move instead of copy the item to the new location. If you're moving your iTunes library you'll need to tell iTunes where it is. If you're moving you're entire home folder you'll need to tell the system where it is by changing some settings using NetInfo Manager.

  • How to set as default Users folder the one on the second Hard Disk?

I recently upgrade my macbook pro with a second hard drive, an SSD, so I placed the old one were the super drive used to be.
Yesterday I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion via clean install on the SSD.
So now I want to keep system files and apps on SSD and everything else  like songs, movies etc from the iTunes on the old hard drive, plus documents of mine.
On the old hard drive I deleted everything but the Users folder.
I tried to change the Home Directory from the Users and Groups in System Preferences but then it wouldn't let me log in in the cloud or in the MacApp Store and every time I tryed to open "Mail, contact & calendars" or "iCloud" from system preferences it crashes..
Any Solutions? Thank you very much for your time.

    - Create variables for variants: use transaction STVARV. You should create one variable for fiscal year with type 'parameter', one for period with type 'parameter', one for fiscal year 'select option' and one for period 'select option'.
    - when saving your variants for the different programs, fill the checkbox 'Selection variables' in the attributes for fiscal year and period; use the button 'selection variables' for choosing the variables created in STVARV.
    - When closing the period, you should use STVARV for changing the variables. All the variant using the variant variables will then automaticaly use the new value.

  • Time Machine doesn't show my second hard disk

I recently updated my G4 from Tiger to OSX 10.5 Leopard. My G4 has two internal hard disks, one (Mac HD) containing the system & most documents, the other (Music & Pics) containing my iPhoto & iTunes libraries. I thought I had set TM to backup both disks as after I got it running I checked the backups and am sure I saw the icons of both Mac HD and Music & Pics in the TM "Star Wars" window.
Now I have just had a failure of the Music & Pics disk and am trying to recover the iPhoto & iTunes libraries to Mac HD. However when I look at all the TM backups, there is no sign of Music & Pics!
Is this because TM can't see the Music & Pics drive any more, so assumes I only want to see the files backed up from Mac HD? Do I need to install a new drive and name it Music & Pics to see the backups, or is there another way?

Are you trying to do this by booting from your Leopard Install disk and doing a full system restore? If so, that procedure only restores OSX drives. Use the normal "Star Wars" display to restore a data-only drive.
Since the failed drive is no longer connected, see #E3 in the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.
