Dv7-3188cl speaker pop

There is a pop noise when the computer boots up and it shuts down.  The pop sounds as if it is coming from the speaker area above the keypad.  I purchased the computer from Sam's Club. I returned it and the replacement one also has the pop.  I am not positive if it is coming from the heard drive.  HP had me flash the bios but that didn't do anything.  Their answer is to send it in for repair.
I like the machine and would love to keep it if I knew it was a harmless pop.  Does anybody have any insight?  I found something on internet that said the sound could be coming from one of the 2 harddrives in the machine.

Updated the Bios on reccomendation of HP email support - updated to version F.1B (sp48570.exe  04/23/2010) - this has effectively solved the POPPING issue (along with audio driver update above)

  • Speaker popping with iTunes

When I play music I've ripped to my hard drive through iTunes, I am getting intermittent speaker popping that sounds much like the wires aren't shielded or plugged in properly. I know the speakers aren't to blame, because everything else on my computer sounds right, as does my TV, which passes through them.
I've done a few tests and discovered the following:
    - If I play a CD through iTunes, I get no popping.
    - If I play the same music on my iPod, no popping there either.
Any help? Thanks for your time.

  • Dv7-3188cl no longer recovering using recovery DVDs

I have a dv7-3188cl which I have owned for a few years now.  I started my usual yearly cleanup of my computer; aka reformat and reload of the OS.  I inserted the recovery media into my drive and started the process of reloading the OS.  I received no errors during the second stage of copy files but when I got to the loading of files stage, the process consistently stops at 12% and would stay there for 24+ hours.  There are no significant scratches on the disks, nothing that can't be buffed out with a scratch repair system.  I have used and loaded game disks with more scratches.
What could be causing my system to do this?  I don't think it is the harware as I successfully installed Ubuntu on my system.

    Hi Enforcer83,
I understand that when you are running your recovery from the disks it will not load pass 12% on your HP Pavilion dv7-3188cl Entertainment Notebook PC.
I suggest following the steps in this document for Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems (Windows 7).
I hope this helps, please let me know how it goes.
Good luck and have a great day!

  • 24" iMac Speaker Pop listening to iTunes

I have noticed this about 5-6 times since owning my iMac (3 months), and it just happened again.
While listening to music with iTunes 7 (with my regular internal speakers) i will all of a sudden hear a loud pop sound (much louder than my music) and sound will cut out for about 5-10 seconds, and then automatically resume...all the while iTunes continues to play the track.
It sounds like a speaker blows every time. Does anyone know why this happens?

Last idea from me would be try different settings for your Equalizer maybe lower Preamp!
Do you have a set of headphones or externals to test with? If the sound is ok from external jack then issue is with internal speakers, speaker connection, external headphone jack or part of audio system. Intermittant electrical issues are some of the hardest to troubleshoot, because they can come and go for some time befor they completely fail. Because you said, "been having this issue since i got the machine" and have sence then upgraded software it does seem to be a hardware issue.

  • Speaker pop up menu no longer appears

Airtunes no longer shows the remote speaker menu after iLife '06 installed. Currently iTunes 7.0.2 is installed. I believe it was in place before the iLife '06 installation. I tried disabling IPv6, but to no avail. Do you have any suggestions as to how I can get the remote speakers working again? I am most appreciative for any help.

  • Speaker Pop On New Alu/Black iMac

Just got the new 24" 2.8 iMac and it's gorgeus, except for one thing. Remember the audio popping issue we all got with the 10.4.10 update? Well it seems to be back on this machine. Whenever I start it up or press a key that has audio (like volume up or down) or start playing any audio the sound system fires up and pops very loudly. I just talked to my friend with a new Alu/Black 20" and he hasn't had this problem at all, so now I'm thinking it might be an issue with the hardware. Running LineIn with silence solves it when I'm logged in but the pops still occur on boot, return from sleep, and when I first log in an LineIn starts.
This is pretty annoying. Has anyone else experienced this problem with their new iMac? Is there some magic I can do in software beyond what I've already done? Or do I just need to make the call and get another one?

I also have one of the new iMacs - one of the 20" models. I started having the same problem just a couple minutes ago. It worked without any problems for a solid week and a half, and now this? Puts a damper on the track I was working on in Logic. It just popped 3-4 times and then no sound eventhough my song was still playing and the volume meters on the mixer for each track were showing movement. Tried playing some songs in my iTunes library and still no sound - speaker output meter is at the halfway mark. My first thought was hardware issue, but who knows.

  • Speaker pop sound issue - how bad is it for the computer?

I have realized I wasn't alone out there with intermittent popping sounds from the speaker(s)...
While I agree it its annoying, I can live with it, I was just wondering if anyone has an educated guess on whether this could damage some peripherals or any hardware components in the long run?
    tx,
    Dr Sly

i would expect at least for the speakers no. not sure if it is affecting all the ports (just cant really notice since there is no way to tell easily) but it is producing a level of sound a little lower and shorter than the alert sounds so it shouldnt do anything to the speakers

  • Speaker pop during PowerBook boot

Ever since installing Leopard, my PowerBook makes a rather loud pop noise from the internal speakers. It always happens during the boot process, at the point where the gray screen with the spinning gear changes to the blue screen. At that point, one of my speakers makes a single loud pop. It is usually the right speaker, but it has happened from the left once or twice. I don't have any external speakers connected. Anyone else seeing this?

  • HP-dv7 3065dx SPEAKER PROBLEM

i just bought my HP-dv7 3065dx yesterday, everything is working perfectly but for one thing.  When I turned on the volume to about 80% it starts making cracking noise (speaker break or something).  So, today, I went to BestBuy where I bought it to get the new one and surprisingly the same issue happened again.  So i was wondering whether this is some type of problem to the machine or ALL of the machine of this series have bad speaker.  And what is some solution to this problem because it might happen again even though i get the third one

I purchased my Dv7- 4285dx and i had the exact same issue, but mostly the crackling was coming from the base subwoofer at the bottom, and I couldnt' figure it out.  After reading the forum, I figured it out.  Being that my computer is the newest of the bunch, I realized that I had the latest updates, so I checked out the sound card settings and I could not beleive how stupid the settings were.  It was set to the most meager setting.  It was set to the "minimum standard" setting for a computer with the capability of having the setting all the way up to "studio setting".  As soon as I set the speakers to "studio", it was like I purchased a new computer.  The sound, the bass, the **bleep** thing sounded completely different.  You really have to play with the settings in the control panel.  Being that this is a "beats audio" compter, it is unlike your average Bs computer.  It doesn't run under average settings like most computers do.  And one other thing I noticed.  Put some earphones on this thing, and it's like heaven.  I have never heard quality like this on any computer, yet alone on an mp3 or anything else.  You really gotta play with the settings, cretique and really mess around with it until you are satisfied, because chances are that you will get what you want in terms of sound.  My recommendation?  Under Control Panel, speaker and headphone settings, under ENHANCEMENTS, check off bass boost and under that, click on settings, then click 300Hz, at Boost level 9dB, THEN, click OK.  Now, check off Virtual sound (done with that one).  Do not check off Room Correction (leave it blank).  THEN, check off LOUDNESS EQUALIZATION, then go down to settings, click it!, slide the slidebar to the 2nd to last slit via "release time" .  Now press "OK".  NOW, THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.... YOU CANNOT FORGET THIS PART!!!!! or all of this reading was useless.  Go to the next tab labeled "ADVANCED".   click where it says 16 bit all the way down to 24 bit (studio quality).  Most likely, your computer is set to the 2nd setting which is stupid, so go all the way down to 24 bit, 48000 Hz (studio Quality).  Now Push, APPLY down at the bottom.  You are done.  Go to Itunes, and play a song, and enjoy the difference.  I recommend that you set your virtual equalizer to "JAZZ".  Either way, all of a sudden, your base will sound very smooth, and no crackling whatsoever, and your surround will all of a sudden sound smooth, natural and not cheap and choppy.  Hope this helps.

  • FaceTime loud speaker pop out of iMac after failed call

    Hi all,
I have been experiencing a wierd issue lately. I have been using facetime on my mac (Imac 27" 2009 model)  to another buddy who has a brand new mac with facetime. We both have OSX lion and most times it works flawlessly. One nasty thing I have seen is if I try to call him and it fails, if he tries to call me back right away as the call comes in my imacs speakers start poping really loudly. Louder than the volume is set to.. I cant turn it off with the mute either... I end up having to quickly go into facetime and turn it off and then reboot to make it go away.. its really annoying and im afraid its going to hurt my speakers.. anyone else see this?

Also I copied this from my other computer web page:
Reported Phishing website ahead.  Your network ha been monitored.  Your network has been compromised due to Browser hijacking. The browser hijacking software may redirect you towards phishing websites that try to access your Login Password details.  To fix this browser redirection issue we recommend you ask for instant help.  Help Line 1 877 899 1824.
Then another smaller popup window pops up
    http://www.pcassists.info
    Security Error
    Call Helpline 1877 899 1824
So this is what I was talking  about, and the small popup window plus the larger  Window stating "Reported Phishing website ahead" will not go away and I cannot use Safari anymore even after I shut down my computer, disconnected it, and then signed on again and reopened Safari, it still takes me to that page and I cannot get out of it.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

  • Speaker pop up menu doesn't work

    Hi
I have been using itunes with an airport express and harman kardon soundsticks. just now it has stopped working, and whatever I select in the speakers pop up menu, they don't work and the sound still comes out of the internal speakers. I notice you don't get the usual delay while itunes 'contacts' the AE either.
    Shoudl I just re-intall itunes?

I have just re-installed itunes after deleting iTunes in Applications,
    iTunes.pkg in /Library/Receipts,
    and com.appleitunes.plist in ~/Library/Preferences.
    I still have the problem!
EDIT: I had renamed my itunes folder containing the library etc to "xxxitunes".
Having discovered that my clean install didn't cure the problem, I threw away the new itunes folder and renamed my original one.
    Guess what?
    Now everything works fine again!
    How weird is that?
I had previously tried trashing the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file to no avail .
Some strange buggy behaviour here that makes me nervous now.......

  • Speaker 'popping'

I've recently bought a set of Logitech Z-4s for my iMac, however whenever I turn my Mac on the speakers continually emit a popping sound. This is definitely the Mac, as I have used multiple speakers with it before, and had the same problem.
Upon further research, it seems to be a similar problem to that occurring in Mac Books of the same era. I downloaded and installed antipop, something that claims to be able to fix the problem, but it isn't entirely successful. It works by launching as a LaunchAgent, then using the 'Say' command with a space every ten seconds, but this only works when the computer is active. When booting, the popping can occur for up to 30 seconds before being stopped, by what I believe to be Antipop. The problem is the same when waking from sleep, but not as bad as it's already running.
So, does anyone know how to stop it all together?
Thanks in advance for any help

It's unfortunate that you can pay almost 3k for an iMac and you end up with a constant popping noise coming out of the jack you plug the speakers into.
If you want to fix this problem forever pickup an iMic ($30). My 24" Intel iMac has the same popping problem. An iMic fixes it. It's USB and works with Snow Leopard, no additional drivers required.

  • HP Pav dv7 notebook - speaker makes a horrible sound.

speaker has a feedback sound I cannot fix

    Hi
You have a couple of options as I see it.
Go to device manager and uninstall the driver and restart and unit will install the driver automatically.
Try doing System restore to the date when the unit was working fine.
Try to update the driver from hp.com website for Audio & Bios.

Mine does the same thing using Bose speakers -- even with the computer shut off! It used to happen to me with the 3 previous PM G5s I've had also -- even running a different brand of speakers, so the problem may be some type of grounding issue inherent to PM G5s.
