Dv7-4302er add hdd

Model HP PAVILION dv7-4302er
Can I install a second hard drive to the model, if so, how?

Reviewing page 52 of this guide, it does look like this unit supports two HDDs. It includes steps for the primary and secondary HDDs.  There should be a T-shaped panel on the underside of the notebook.  Removing this panel should reveal both HDD bays.  The secondary bay may have a "filler" piece in it to occupy the space.  If so, removing the filler piece should allow for a secondary HDD to be installed.
I hope this answers your question.

  • DV7 3085DX 2nd HDD Bay

I have been having a look at my DV7 3085DX and see that it has a second hdd bay but no connections to plug a 2nd internal hdd in.
Is it possible to add the connectors & activate the 2nd hdd bay? If so how can it be done?
Also I have noticed that connections exist inside for a tv tuner, is it possible to utilize this connection?
Any help or answers greatly appreciated.

Yes on at least the hard drive and theoretically yes on the tv tuner although that is pricey. You need the module and a special cable. I cannot find the part on the internet or this site but you could maybe call HP or even look on ebay. Here is the part you need to add a second drive. It is the caddy and a connector cable.

Can I add second HDD to my new dv7-6050ec? There is everything (free space, HDD caddy) except cable in the case.  If the upgrade is possible, what cable should I use?

  • How do I restore new SSD on pavilion DV7 from 2nd HDD restore partition?

My DV7 came with two drives, an SSD and an IDE with the recovery on a partition of the large HDD. The SSD died. I've got a new drive and put it in, but when I hit F11 to do a restore, I get a  "no bootable device" message. I sort of thot F11 would send it to the restore partition and it w/b bootable. I don't have disks. What am I doing wrong? (Other than not to make disks in the first place.)
I can't get the bios to cough up the system's installed hard drive information. I'm running a startup test now and it shows a primary hard disk self test and SMART test passed and is now working on that secondary hard disk self test which, from the length of time it's taking, must be the much larger HDD.  So I'm assuming it's found the new SSD.

I've always made the rescue disks before (I'm old...My partner and I have had several laptops over the last 20 years! ) but I've looked all over and can't find them for this machine.    And I honestly didn't remember this machine asking me to do it. Likely it did.  Likely I made them and put them somewhere safe...which of course means I'll never find them!
I didn't know much about SSDs when I got the machine, except they were fast. I was seduced by the speedy side of the force when I was talking to the HP salesperson. My understanding was, because SSDs were still unknown quantities and more likely to demise catastrophically than HDDs, HP put the restore on the secondary drive. From what you say, this was obviously not the case. Also, the SSD is so small, you kinda need all the room you can get!
I've made DVDs from iso files before, but sadly, I can't read the windows key on the bottom of the machine. Again...I have a belarc printout...somewhere...with all the registry info on it. Probably in that safe place with the rescue disks. *facepalm*
I DID find my original receipt and turns out it had home premium, not pro (I got pro for my desktop and for my previous laptop and assumed I had for this one.) However, it also turns out I've got an extended warrantee and it's still covered (barely). I'm going to send the whole machine in for a complete overhaul. Yipppeeee!
So...I think we can mark this solved, even if somewhat unorthodoxically. Thanks very much for you help. I learned some important details about the machine, which is always a very good thing.

  • IX4-300D add HDD

I bought a IX4-300d diskless, and first I set-up a Raid 0 with 2x1TB HDD. Now I add a new 1tb HDD, and change to the Raid 5, the ix4 Recognize my new HDD, and show TB of space in the system status, buy I can not use this space ...
The IX-4 300d not allow to use this extra space.
    Some Idea?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The drives need to be the same manufacturer or else the device may not accept them. This is because having drives with different specifications can cause issues with the RAID.

  • Dv7-6b51ea 2nd hdd size

    Hello
I have a dv7-6b51ea, UK model. Its original 1TB drive started clicking.. so finished. I have replaced the main drive with a 250gB SSD drive and reinstalled win7 64 bit. All this works very well and is very fast to boot and run.
Having been in the back I noticed a 2nd drive bay slot, I have purchased a 1TB hybrid seagate drive for that slot and have installed it with cable.
The first time I booted windows, it saw the drive and said that the new hardware was ready to use.
Unfortunatly windows can not see the drive.
I have reinstalled all the current drivers from the HP support site and flashed the bios from the windows application.
Can you help shed some light on this please?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Wayne,
You may just need to format the new HDD - try the following.
Hold down the Windows Key and press R.  Into the Run Box type compmgmt.msc and hit enter.  Click Disk Management in the left pane and let the drives load up.  Right click on your new HDD and select Format to start the Wizard.  Windows 7 will assign a Volume Label so if your happy with this, just leave the default one.  File system is normally NTFS.  Allocation Unit Size should be left as the default value.  Select the option to perform a Quick Format if it is not already selected.  Leave any other settings as default and click Ok and Ok again to start the process.
When this has completed, your new HDD should now appear when you look under Computer.

  • Pavilion dv7-5003tx replace hdd recovery disks error code OxeOefoooe please help.

have tried both recoveries hangs at 45% and goes no where

    Hi,
One factor that can cause this error is replacing the original HDD with a drive of smaller capacity - if this is the case, recovery discs almost always fail to work correctly, however there isAssuming this is an alternative option you could try.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your notebook ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source, however there are only limited versions available.
    Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

    Hi,
For many 17" (or 17.3") machines such as Envy 17, dv,  Pavilion 17 .... you can add a second HDD (my old loan dv7 has two HDD's and my current loan Envy 17 also has 2 HDD's). You would need the following kit:

  • HP dv 7 4050ea HDD caddy search

    Hello
I know that this has been asked a few times, but the sheer number of different caddies for different ranges of HP laptops out there scares me, so I decided to ask.
I want to add a second hard drive to my dv7 4050ea Pavillion notebook. However, I am unsure as to which caddy models are compatible. The best match I have found yet is this:
    http://uk.eetnordic.com/product.aspx?id=KIT340&path=MicroStorage-2nd-HDD-Caddy-Cable-for-HP
I am still not sure if it is the correct one though, and I do not know the site so I am reluctant.
So, can someone here possibly help me find out which caddy I need to buy, and if possible, point me towards a trustworthy site which ships to the UK or to Greece? Would it be possible to order this part directly from HP, and if so, where?
    Thanks.

  • Add USB hub to Time Capsule

If I add a USB hub into a Time Capsule, can I add HDD and printer(s) into the hub at the same time?
    Thanks.

Is there a limit on the number of devices (printers, HDD's) the can be accessed via the Time Capsule if I connect them through the Time Capsule's USB port via a powered USB hub?

  • HP Pavilion dv7-6b76eo SSD upgrade

    Hi
I have the HP Pavilion dv7-6b76eo and I made a post here:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/HP-Pavilion-dv7-6b76eo-upgrade-HDD-SDD/td-p/3913164
but since no one replies I had to make a new post.
I have 2 slots on my motherboard, currently only the 1 being used of my HDD, which is slow and sux! I want to slot in an SSD next to my HDD and have my operating systems on the SSD and the HDD as storage... pretty straightforward, eh? It is!
Just wanna know now if it matter about the SSD's producer. The Service manual PDF from HP for my PC (found here - http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03043778.pdf ) tells me only that my pc supports the HP 160 GB (665985-001) solid-state drive found here - http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=665985-001 and it does not look too promising, in my opinion.
What if I want something else? How do I know if it will be compatible or not? Are they all compatible? Would you recommend me any producer. Anything to stay away from or any specific producer of SSD that I should use for upgrading my HP Pavilion dv7-6b76eo?
    PS
On my HP Pavilion dv7-6b76eo the processor and chipset are from Intel, not AMD, in case that is important to be mention in this context.

    Hi,
    My suggestion:
Clone existing HDD to new SSD (try Samsung, Crucial ...) then install new SSD on the primary slot, this will save a lot of hassles.
Format the old HDD, buy caddy & cable then install it on the second slot.
    1. There are many clone software around, you can buy one or try the following free:
      http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/five-apps/five-free-and-reliable-cloning-tools/
      http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-drive-cloning-software.htm
Some SSD vendors supply conling software for you too, normally you have to pay $10 to $15 more.
    2. Caddy and cable:

  • Unable to make microphone to work on NVIDIA MCP55 onboard sound card

    Hello.
Some time ago, I bought a nice HP xw9400 Workstation (with Dual Core AMD Opteron  2216) from Germany. Despite it's starting to become old by today's standards for some stuff like gaming, it's still quite okay to use and the SAS HDD makes it boot fastly. And it has one of the best cases, you can plug PCI/PCIe/PCI-X cards very easily and it's very nice to change or add HDDs. Maybe I'll upgrade the CPUs (I can upgrade the bios and it seems it can support better CPUs) if I find them on eBay or other place.
I have less problems with Arch than the rest of distributions, but I still have weird issues. Despite my computer hardware is somewhat old, I still experience weird problems everywhere (it seems I have some kind of weird "luck").
I have problems using my microphone under Arch with "NVIDIA Corporation MCP55 High Definition Audio (rev a2)" onboard sound card , here is the relevant info.

Sorry, that was wrong, I meant
    arecord -l
Have you tried making a virtual loopback device like above and using
    arecord -vv -fdat out.wav
You should see the #### fluctuate as you speak into the mic. If not, then unmute and turn up your mic in alsamixer. That loopback device will allow you to capture your sound card and hear it at the same time. Another way to do it is to use a jumper from line out to line in on your sound device. You won't be able to hear it while you record though.
If your sound device works, then you can capture what's going through it. You'll need to determine which vitual device your mic is.
    Example
    arecord -l

  • Windows 8 full system backup and restore to new laptop (system with 32GB mSata Cache)?

Hi, I have a new Envy DV7-7205 which has 2TB storage with 32GB HDD Cache (or mSata, not really sure how it's implemented). I need to return the laptop as it's faulty but I would like to startup on the replacement exactly where I left off.
Are there any special methods required to backup and restore the system image from the old laptop to the new one, particularly with consideration to the 32GB SSD cache, as this doesn;t seem to appear as a distinct "drive" on the system.
Please can anybody advise the simplest, safest method to move my entire system from old to the new laptops (should be exactly the same spec machine).
    Many thanks,
    Greg

    Hi,
Firstly I don't know how this is going to work on new machine because the Windows 8 lisence would NOT work at all.
    Regards.

  • System for AE and PPro cs5

    Hello,
I have finally got the budget for a long overdue upgrade from an amd turion 1,8 ghz laptop and i am considering two build options. One with a raid controller and one without one, going on software raid 0 with backup on external hdds.
Basicly both options are with the same core components, different beeing only the storage options
    Option 1
    Mainboard
I like it because it has a lot of sata 2 and 3 inputs
    Mainboard Asrock P67   Extreme6 B3
    174 eur
    CPU
I plan to overclock to 4.2ghz
CPU Intel Core i7 2600K   SandyBridge BOX
    275 eur
    CPU Cooler
    CPU Cooler Noctua NH-D14
    80 eur
    RAM
    4 x RAM Kingston DDR3 4096MB 1333MHz CL9
    150 eur
    PSU
Not sure if it will sustain my storage configuration and a 4.2 ghz overclock...
    PSU Corsair CMPSU-850HX 850W
    153.4 eur
    UPS
I just need 2 min so i could save my projects and shut down, i think its enough wattage...
    UPS Apollo 1100F
    54 eur
    Case
I like this one because it has 8 HDD spaces and a lot of fans. I would have liked a LianLi, but there is no dealership in Romania.
    Case Antec Dark Fleet DF-85
    168 eur
    Video Card
Would consider one with a Display port output, but not sure if i need one. I have a LED Samsung tv with only HDMI and VGA connections, and i would like sometimes to view the edit on a TV, not on a IPS panel monitor that i will buy:)
Video Card Palit GeForce GTX   580 1536MB DDR5
    441 eur
    External storage
Pretty good price and performance. I have 5 of these on usb 2.0, and i edited full hd P2 40min+, 3 layer multicam materials on these babies. Not too fast scrooling, but realtime playback ok.
HDD extern Samsung Story Station   Plus 1.5TB USB 3.0
    85 eur
    Optical Drive
Basic need, i prefer IDE because i can use the extra sata port on a hdd
    LiteON   LNIHAP122-19 DVD-RW Black
           20 eur
    Monitor
At first, and then his big brother HP LP2475W
    Monitor LCD HP ZR24w
          360 eur
    Storage
Here i have 2 possible configurations
    Option 1: 6 TB - 4 HDD + 1 SSD
SSD for OS and page file
2x Seagate raid 0 for project files
2x WD raid 0 for media cache
2 x HDD Seagate Baracuda XT 2000GB   SATA SATA 3
    281 eur
    2x HDD Western Digital Caviar Black   1000GB 7200rpm SATA 3 64MB
    155 eur
    SSD OCZ Vertex 3 2.5 120GB SATA   3 MLC
    258 eur
    Option 2: 8 TB - 9HDD
    Controller server Intel   INSASMF8I
    221 eur
    9x HDD Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 32Mb                                                   562 eur
    And an OS 320GB disk.
The controller option is a  bit more expensive, but performance-wise, i understand its better. I tried to find areca, but they are not sold in Romania, and i need the warranty, so i cannot order from abroad. US prices are better, but when it comes in my country, i have to pay VAT wich in the end adds up to more then its worth at prices locally.
I tried to find in the user guide of the controller if i can add hdds to the array without formatting, so i could buy at first just 4 hdds and then add as i make the budget available.
First and foremost worry i have is that wthout the controller i have sata 3, and a 6 tb capacity with 4 hdds, rather than a 8 tb in a 9 hdd array... kind'ov expensive for the number of hdds... If i would add 2tb hdds to the array, it would be way over budget....
Total budget would be around 2800-2900 Euro...
I would like some opinions on the build if you have the time.
    Thank you,
