DV7 Motherboard swap

Hello peeps,
My DV7 recently suffered a catastrophic spillage (I vaugely remember there being an ale festival involved). I've dropped it in to a local shop and they've done their best to clean it but have pronounced the motherboard as fried and needing replacement.
The current install is HP part number 682000-001, HP DV7 M7-1000 630M/1GB DDR3. My question is, can I replace this with 682016-001, 682016-501, 682037-001, 685448-001 or 685447-001, which have the same name except for a 2GB gfx chip (and are actually cheaper)
Unfortunately I can't specify the laptop model as it's still at the menders. I've been tring to reverse engineer it using the exisiting mobo part number but so far no joy. So, long story short, are any of the boards listed above compatible with 682000-001 please?

Hi swiss_sanchez,
I will be happy to look into the other motherboard part numbers for you. However, I will need to know the product number to be able to the research.

  • DV7 keeps blinks 4 times in Caps Lock, even after motherboard swap

OK guys, I really need a good advice here, because I am going nuts on this case.
I have a Pavilion DV7 in which the motherboard died (Caps Lock keeps blinking infinitely when power on). I then replaced the motherboard with a new one, but the new motherboard then blinks 4 times when powering on (after CPU cooler stops). According to HP that means "graphics failure". Then I got the new motherboard replaced (under warranty) with another new one. This second new motherboard also blinks 4 times when powering on. This can't be right, because what is the odds for receiving two motherboards with similar defects. None of the motherboards work with external monitor (VGA) neither.
Now I wonder if a defective LCD or LCD inverter could cause this 4 times blink?
    /Ulrik

Well the promise is that they will fix it for a year. HP did not make the hard drives so you cannot really blame them on that although the motherboard is their issue. I would say keep rolling with it until the warranty is out. If you have another issue ask to escalate to a supervisor, but HP hews pretty close to the terms of the warranty. A few states have non-auto lemon laws and you might do a bit of a google search to see just what your rights may be in the place you live.

  • Successful T61P Nvidia GPU motherboard swap to T61 Intel GPU

    Hi all,
Just finished my first successful T61 Intel GPU motherboard conversion from a failed T61P with the dreaded "fatal" Nvidia GPU disease.  At a very reasonable price, forum contributor Tuus furnished me with a good used T61 Merom/Intel board with a Middleton bios, which allows for faster Penryn CPU's (up to T9500) and SATA2 speeds on a Merom/Intel motherboard.  I used the on-line Lenovo training videos and the Lenovo system maintenance manuals as a guide, and all went quite well.  Thanks to all previous forum posters for providing me with an incredible knowledgebase of Thinkpad laptop system problems and solutions, and in particular TuuS for sharing his upgrade recommendations and repair experience.

Happy to hear that the planar swap went well.
    Enjoy your reborn T61!

  • Powerbook G3 Motherboard Swap

Hey I just got two powerbook G3's for free and was wondering...
Can I fit a dual core intel macbook motherboard inside?
    Where can I Find One?
The case is big enough and power supply is no issue...can it be done?
If it can, i just ended up with 2 medium quality macbooks

    sgt_knox:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
While the PB G3 case may be the right size, it takes a bit more than that to make a computer work. I am not technically adept enough to tell you why it will not work except to say that the architecture is completely different. You can get the MacBook logic board at PowerBook Tech for $330. However, as I said, I am pretty certain it will not work. For the price of two logic boards you almost have a new MacBook.

  • After motherboard swap, Time Machine doesn't recognise older backups

    Hello,
After I had my motherboard replaced on my MacBook Pro, my older backups are not recognised. Is there any way to access this data?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hello,
Time machine uses the MAC address to identify each computer and as your logic board now sports a new MAC address TM can't see it.
I haven't tried this but Barry Sharp, posting on macosxhints suggests:
If you attempt to backup after the MAC address has been changed the TM backup will indeed fail and report it cannot found the TM backup volume. This is because the hidden file with the name of the MAC address (minus the colons) does not match the new MAC address.
All that is required here is to goto TM Pref panel and click on the "Change Disk..." button and reselect the TM backup disk and then manually force a backup via the Dock's TM icon "Back Up Now". The backup will now run and the new MAC address will be created as a hidden file alongside the old one. You can use sudo to remove this old one.
TM backup will proceed as it would have normally done without the MAC address change and without a deep traversal of all volumes that have not been excluded ...

  • CQ42 Motherboard Swap

I have a CQ42 laptop and the motherboard has gone and needs replacing.
It says replace with spare 592809-001 ... however
    I can get a cheap motherboard numbered 592811-001 or a 616408-001.
These are both from CQ42 laptops but the GPU is different, will I have any trouble installing this motherboard / will it even work at all?
Any help would greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have checked and the motherboard layouts are identical except for the exception of a gpu chip which is in the middle of the board and not affecting any sockets etc.
I have got a problem with a blank screen, the gpu was reballed but it still has a blank screen....however...
when i plugged in a hdmi cable, the screen showed up on my TV.....but only in safe mode.  In normal mode the TV is also blank.   WIndows is booting as I can hear the welcome screen sounds but I cant see anything, can you help?
Short Version - windows boots up Laptop Screen Blank, but Screen shows when on external HDMI but only in safe mode.
Is this a screen problem or gpu?

  • Motherboard swap

My iBook G3 700 has died. My dealer won't install a secondhand motherboard so I'm doing it myself.
I've not been able to get a 700 board but ebay came up with a 600 board.
Basic question; I can see physical differences, but all connecitons look same; will the 600 board work in a 700 chassis etc. Am I wasting my time?
    Regards , alan b

    Alan,
Is this a 14"? What happened to the original logic board?
In the service manual for the 600 - 700 14" the exploded view shows this:
    "Logic Board
    600 MHz 661-2673
    700 MHz 661-2674"
These are Apples numbers and it seems to imply that the boards are switchable.
If you need further clarification email me.

  • Envy 6 motherboard swap

I bought an Envy6-1110us (with an AMD A8) and was underwhelmed with the performance, so I bought a replacement motherboard with an intel Core I5 processor.
My problem is that I cannot get the intel board to display video. I know it is functioning (I've actually tried several with intel processors), but the LCD remains completely blank. I looked up the parts numbers and there is only one LCD you can use for this model, so I don't think it is a compatibility problem. I don't think it's something I have forgotten to plug in/install, as I've gone the the install procedure multiple times just be sure.
So what is it? What am I missing?
    This question was solved.

Sometimes it takes a fresh set of eyes on work to see an error or omission. That is a part of why aviation requires quality assurance.
You may have to connect the display assemby to the original system board to see if it still operates.
Having memory modules absolutely identical has always been much more of an issue with notebooks than desktop PCs. The trick is that unless you want to experience issues, always install guaranteed compatible memory modules as a identical pair.

  • 3000 n-100 Motherboard repalcement

My daughter spilled some Pepsi on her Lenovo and after taking it apart I have found that it has corroded/eaten the legs off some of the diodes and resistors on the board.  At first I thought I might be able to solder them but it is too far gone.
Does anyone know of a place to find motherboards for this?
What motherboards swap with the 41W-8032 boards?
    Thank you
    CB

You can contact Lenovo. I don't know if they would still have parts for this generation laptops. Your second optioin is Ebay. The motherboard is not cheap but is avaialable. Click

  • G4 MDD 1.25 dual Motherboard Replacement Docs or Help

    Hi, all!
I searched the best I could in the forums before posting, so if I missed a link to this, I'm sorry!
I have a replacement motherboard coming in and even though I have a very talented and technical friend coming by to help, it'd sure be nice to have some instructions on removing the current motherboard and the subsequent install of the newer one.
Mine is having kernel panics about 98% of the time on attempted startups and I've tried (along with the Apple Store Genius Bar) everything I know how to do or have Googled and read. I think it's perhaps a USB bus issue.
I did manage to get it to boot from the Apple Hardware Test and everything passed.
And, one of the USB connectors on the back of the machine is damaged, so I figure a complete motherboard swap should eliminate all possibilities except for maybe the CPU which seemed to pass.
So back to the original query...are there docs somewhere to guide one in the removal of the motherboard?
I run a recording studio with this machine and I'm dead in the water!
    Thanks in advance!
    Buzzy
(I am looking into either a new MacIntel or possibly a used G5 to replace it with)

    Hi there.
I found a couple of links that downloadable take-apart service manuals for the G4 MDD. They weren't as easy to find as I thought they might - but I've taken other G4's apart and the principle is the same even if the picture is a little off, lol.
The first was the best site - sometimes though it didn't download the pdf when I clicked on it - took me to another tab then i had to click the little download link near the bottom twice to complete the download - but the guides are worth the trouble.
    http://www.eserviceinfo.com/index.php?what=search2&searchstring=PowerMacG4
These are some other useful links I found:
    http://www.macgurus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19016
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEfNH1DaJUo
In general though, are you sure it is the motherboard causing the problem and not something like a stick (or four) of RAM? They are the most common causers of kernel panics. Been going through the same thing with a stick of RAM I bought for a G4 MDD 1.25ghz DP like yours - technically it meets all the requirements for this model - I've run multiple tests which all say the ram stick is good - but when it's installed, I start getting kernel panics, programs quitting, random freezes and such. When I remove it, it's much slower, but no panics of any kind.
    Good luck.

  • Lenovo 3000 N200 0769 - could I strap a Video Card on it?

    Hi there,
I know this question's been asked before, but I have not found an answer that's relevant to me. I have a 3000 N200 series, version 0769. the original Specs are: Windows Vista Home edition, CPU Intel Celeron 550 2.0 Ghz, 1GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, Onboard Video from the Intel 965M Chipset (64Mb dedicated).
Now, from the original specs, I've upgraded to another 1 GB RAM (identical) and an Intel T7100 Dual-core 1.8 Ghz CPU, and I'm now running Windows 7 32-bit. The reason I've upgraded to the T7100 is because I've seen a variant of the N200 with this CPU.
My question is: Do I have the capability to upgrade my graphics card? I know that some of the 0769 variants have antoher version of the graphics card, I think a 256 MB GeForce. Could I get anything like that up on mine ? Or have I hit the wall when it comes to upgrades?
Please help me, I need a better graphics performance ASAP (work stuff). Also, I don't have the cash for a new notebook (possibly a new motherboard and/or Graphics Card, but no more than that).
    Thank you!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Well, you can't upgrade graphics without swapping the
motherboard for one with Nvidia graphics, which also
had a different heatsink setup to handle extra heat from
GPU. So I doubt a swap would work without modification.
Used motherboard swaps, IMO, are not cost effective.
Ram could go up to 4 GB, with 3 being a good compromise,
and cpu to Core 2 Duo T7500, which would be too minor
a boost over T7100, unless you can find one Cheap.
Probably other cpus that were added later also.
My opinion? Put the money towards a good used laptop
    with the specs you need/want.
Oh, and the weak bios? There are some bios modding communities
out there, but that is a high risk adventure! See this post for an example:

Most users of your Mac with those panic logs have a specific Hardware problem.
Make an appointment at your nearest genius Bar. Take a printout of one crash report and this article:
TS4088- MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
If you are not served by an Apple Store, make an appointment at your Apple distrubutor.
They need to run an ADDITIONAL diagnostic to check for a particular problem in your exact model Mac. The regular diagnostic does not find this problem.
Do not leave until they have run this special diagnostic. It may find a problem that requires a motherboard swap. If it does, it will be covered by a special program.

  • Letter to Lenovo. This is what happens when you can't live up to your own advertising!!!

THIS IS A LETTER A WROTE TO LENOVO.
HOW MUCH B.S. IS THIS HUGH!?
READ AND TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK...
THIS IS MY SECOND ATTEMPT TO REACH SOMEONE THAT IS LITERATE!!!!!!!!!!
AN APOLOGY IS NOT GONNA PUT $825 BACK IN MY POCKET!
IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN I WOULD HAVE HAD THIS MANY PROBLEMS WITH MY MACHINE, I WOULD NOT HAVE DECIDED ON LENOVO IN THE FIRST PLACE!
I BASED MY DECISION UPON MANY HAVING MANY SUCCESSES WITH IBM/LENOVO MACHINES IN THE PAST!
    DEAR LENOVO!
TO WHOM IT MAY -REALLY- CONCERN...
I have long since been a fan of IBM computers and thus, when the label changed, I trusted Lenovo with the same respect. I am a junior college student at West Virginia University and wanted only the best machine which was both powerful and reliable... the T61 seemed to be my answer. In advertisements I viewed the computer being plunged underwater (and then turned on, no less), smashed into walls at death-defying speeds, and dropped from hundreds of feet . In my case a small amount of sprite, LESS THAN 50CC!!
The laptop can survive a couple drops right? Being on a very small and tight student budget I tried to make the best of it and decided to be safe, left it alone for the day, and afterwords it worked perfectly for 5 months.  One day the laptop was in sleep mode, I turned it off manually by holding the power button, it turned off. After this, it never turned back on!
I tried everything-  (static discharge, removal of components, new ac adapter, dust removal, hardware exchange)- it just croaked!
Eventually, I sent the laptop in to be repaired (for what I was told would be FREE OF CHARGE) in your Texas repair facility only to be told that the laptop was NOT UNDER WARRANTY?! due to the water damage and that the laptop that I PAID $825 for was GOING TO COST ME OVER $900 TO FIX!
THERE WAS ONLY A MINIMAL AMOUNT OF LIQUID SPILLED ON THIS COMPUTER, I DO NOT BELIEVE IT WAS THE LIQUID THAT DESTROYED THE LAPTOP!
THERE HAVE BEEN KNOWN POWER SUPPLY ISSUES WITH THE MODEL T61, SO MUCH SO THAT IT COULD BE CALLED A DEFECT. THIS LAPTOP IS NOT WATER DAMAGED, IT IS DEFECTIVE!
THIS LAPTOP IS ALREADY OUTDATED by many standards on the market today AND IS NO LONGER EVEN SOLD OR ADVERTISED ON YOUR COMPANY WEBSITE!
Could it be TOO MUCH to ask for just a simple motherboard swap? I'm sure they've got to be sitting lifeless and stockpiled somewhere...
As advertised, this laptop DID NOT live up to it's name, I am completely dissatisfied, and now I'm out the $825 I paid for the machine.
If there are any powers-that-be remaining in this world today, please let them come over you! I NEED A LAPTOP FOR SCHOOL!
Thank you for your time and CONSIDERATION!

you can't believe all the marketing ads that you see on tv... this is more of a marketing ethics.
Thing with your sugar in the lemonade, is that corrodes the electrical components slowly, especially if there is only small amount being spilled.
Regarding those commercials i think these are just some over-exaggerated marketing campaign, just like car commercials, some of which shows that toddler can drive it.

  • Can I install a Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 into my HP laptop?

Hi I was wondering if I could possibly install a new graphics card into my HP laptop? My laptop is a HP 15-d051sa 15.6" so you can search it up on Google.
    My specs:
    RAM: 8gb
    HDD: 1TB
    Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU N3510 2Ghz (2mb cache)
    Graphics: Intel HD Graphics
I think they're all the specifications I need to mention for you guys to help me.
    -Thanks Zack.
    This question was solved.

No it cannot be done. The video system is part of the motherboard and cannot be changed. Even if you were to change to the best HP 15 motherboard it has graphics much less powerful than the GTX 660 and the motherboard swap would cost as much as the laptop did to begin with.

  • Freeze during startup

During startup, the system freezes (no cursor, no keys).
It boots as far as the "Log On to Windows" screen. The cursor still moves, and then it stops after perhaps 30 seconds
    (keys non-functional too),
Tried the rescue and recovery but when it gets to Step 1 with choices including "Restore my gard drive to the original factory state" everything freezes again.
Prior to this problem the system would hang during shutdown.
How do I get past this point?
    (T43 with XP sp3)

    Welcome to the forum!
Sounds like a failing SouthBridge chip to me.
Try removing the hard drive and booting from a "live" Linux CD.
If you experience the same type of freezing there, you're likely looking at a motherboard swap.
    Good luck.
    Cheers,
    George
