Dv9000 AC Adapter 65w - 90w compatibility 453198-001 453199-001

I have the Pavilion dv9000 - part number: KN866UA#ABA - model: dv9815nr.  It came with a 65w AC adapter.
I came across the 90w adapter and have been told it is compatible with my laptop.  Are these AC adapters truly compatible/interchangeable?
The only issue I have found is that the 90w is for systems with dual lamp display assemblies while the 65w is for single lamp.
Can I use the 90w AC adapter on my laptop that originally came with a 65w adapter?

When it comes to the ac adapter there are two specifications you need to focus on:
1. Voltage (output)
2. Amperage (output)
I'll use the example of an Asus notebook I have in the shop right now.  It actually shipped with a 65W ac adapter, as it only had integrated graphics.  However, there was an alternate model that shipped with a discrete adapter (nVidia 6600go).  That model required a 90W adapter.
On both models, the AC adapters are 19V output models.  Where they differ, however, is in the maximum output amperage.
The 65W max amps out is 3.42A, and the 90W is 4.74A.
Keep in mind that WATTAGE = VOLTS * AMPS...
The other thing to understand is that the ac adapter is not always putting out 65W or 90W.  The long and short of it is that the notebook (or PC) draws a certain amount of amperage per component usage.  On desktops, it tends to be a bit more constant as notebooks now have active power management, which means they adjust their performance and power usage specs according to usage (though, desktops are starting to have active power management more and more also.)
So the bottom line is that, as long as the AC adapter is compatible with the unit, a 65W requiring notebook can use a 90W adapter, because the voltage is constant and its total amperage usage will never reach the full capability of the adapter.
YOU CANNOT USE A LOWER WATTAGE ADAPTER ON A HIGHER WATTAGE-REQUIRING NOTEBOOK, HOWEVER!!!!  If a system requires a 90W, it's most likely because its maximum amperage draw is significantly higher than what a 65W can supply.
Hope this helped!

I have a T400 2765, it was shipped with a 90W power adapter, I was recently given a 65W adapter. Is it ok to charge my battery with the 65W?, with my laptop being shippied WITH a 90W? I have a 9 cell batter and a 4 cell battery.

It's perfectly fine to charge the computer using the 65w power. It will most likely run fine using the 65w power as well, but might not be able to give the computer enough power under some circumstances. Also for some Thinkpads like the W510 which is shipped with a 135w power the computer work fine using the 90w power, but the computer will basically be slower. It might take longer to charge as well.

  • Thinkpad X Series Power Adapters (65W, 90W, etc) Lenovo Store Suggestion

Well, I decided to play pretend today on Lenovo's Thinkpad X Series laptop shopping site. My brother in law needs a new computer, so I look at all the options. Then it hits me, what is going on with the power supplies?
    Here is the issue.
The 90W power adapter is cheaper than the 65W power adapter if you were to buy it as an accessory. Does that not seem backwards? In addition, when you buy a x201 for instance, you are stuck with the more expensive 65W power supply. You could add an additional 90W power supply to the order, but considering that the 90W power brick is not that much bigger (probably less than a half a square inch of the other) 65W power brick and it is cheaper and does more. Why bother with the 65W power supply anyways? In the store you can swap out the battery for a bigger one.
Why not have a downgrade option from the 65W power adapter to the 90W power adapter?
    Just a thought.

The 90 watt adapter costs more to produce than the 65 watt, the price at the online store for accessory may change depending supply and demand. I am not sure why the 90 watt adapter dropped below that of 65 watt, in most instances the price is other way around.

  • Apple Portable Power Adapter 65W

My adapter sparks when I plug it into the wall(in the US) to charge my computer battery. when I travel internationally, the sparking is more pronounced and the adapter gets very hot.

Hi, lsrp, and welcome to apple Discussions. You may want to read through the article linked below to familiarize yourself with the kinds of issues a faulty adapter may raise, in case yours proves to be on the way out. The note near the end about sparking will be of the greatest immediate interest, but I recommend reading the whole article.

  • 43N3412 adapter for Ultrabay compatability

Hi guys. I'm wondering if someone can tell me if part 43N3412 is compatible with the T420/420 or T520. I have checked the main US Lenovo shopping site and the models aren't listed. However, other parts of the Lenovo website (the support area for this part #) show this model to be compatible with the T420/420 or T520 units. I would like to buy a model that isn't EOL and be able to use this adapter so I can have two drives.
Anyone using this part on one of these models? Or is there another way to get one of these models with two drives in it?

I got a caddy for my W520 from Newmodeus and it has no gap, and was cheaper than the one from Lenovo. Here is one for the T420: http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=392

OK, an update. The ATI RADEON 9800 Pro for Mac definitely does not do the trick. Ordered from Amazon, installed and no improvement in resolution. Out with the new and in with the old. The saga continues. No one and I mean NO ONE seems to be able to give a definitive answer to what card(s) will go into a G5 Dual to power a 30" monitor at full resolution. So far my Mac guru has been wrong twice. Sure you can "get" something like the X800 in oh, say 45 days. shannon

  • 65 OR 90 WATT AC ADAPTER FOR HP DV9000???

I aquired an HP DV9000 laptop, used, that came with the wrong AC adapter.  It fits loosely and frequently comes loosened to the point that I have to wiggle it for it to provide power. It quit providing power completely a few days ago.  I am done with that adapter.
I started using the AC adapter from my HP V5000 and it is perfect, it seems?  It fits perfectly and provides constant power to the DV9000.
However, it is a 65 watt adapter, model # PA-1650-02H.  I have seen sites advertising the DV9000 adapter as 65 watts and also 90 watts.  I have seen some sites list both models - DV9000 and V5000 - using the same adapter and some sites do not list both models using the same adapter.
I am thinking since the DV9000 is a more powerful laptop it is wiser to go with a 90 watt adapter.  I am getting so much conflicting info, so I am confused as to which to buy for the DV9000?????
    Thanks for your input!!!!!!

    Hi,
I have a DV9700t. The AC adapter is part number 393954-001 and the spare part number is 394224-001.
My adapter is rated at 19V DC @ 4.74 amps ( amps times volts equals wattage) which is 90 watts.
I have another laptop that has a 65 watt adapter and when the battery is run down the charger get fairly warm until the battery is fully charged.
My recommendation is to go with the 90 watt adapter/charger.  It will recharge your battery faster.

  • T440p Using Lower Wattage AC Adapter

    I recently got a T440p. The laptop came with a 135W adapter.
I would like to order an additional adapter.
When I search for compatible adapters on Lenovo's site by entering my model number, it lists 65W, 90W, 135W, and 170W adapters.
    http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:find-compati...
What would be the consequence of using an adapter lower than 135W (which the laptop came with)? Slower charges? Reduced CPU speed? I imagine the lower wattage adapters would work since Lenovo lists them in the store when I searched for my machine.
The machine has a quad core CPU and a discreet graphics card.
    Thanks.

What about the 65W adapter?  I just got one ordered for me, but it doesn't seem to even charge the battery and under power settings, the recommendation is airplane mode.
Is this listed adapter (65W) even an option?
It depnds. Some T440p models will work with the 65W adapter and others require at least the 90W adapter. A good way to determine the minumum wattage is to consult the listing for your specific machine type and model in Product Specifications Reference (PSREF).
There is no harm in using a higher wattage adapter apart from having to carry a larger, heavier adapter when travelling. The higher wattage does recharge the battery faster so it's worth considering to power a dock or for permanent desktop usage.
Using an adapter that has a lower rating than listed in PSREF may not work, may work erratically when you use too many higher-current components or it may result in your system running at lower speeds. Don't do it.

  • W530 AC adapter issue

    Hi everyone,
Strange issue with W530 (mt/m:2447-5FG, Windows 7 Enterprise with all drivers up to date) and AC adapter 170W.
When plugged in with no battery installed, everything works fine. After installing battery(70++), and plugging in AC adapter, nothing happens - device working on battery, but not charging, AC adapter is not even detected.
Tried different battery, same thing. Tried AC adapter 90W, same thing. Tried AC adapter 65W - charging the battery, but there is no sign that AC adapter is plugged in. I tried to update BIOS, i get warning  "connect AC adapter"
    Any thoughts?

" Tried AC adapter 65W - charging the battery" : That's surprising (and quite desirable in a better world!), since normally the w530 refuses to operate or charge with non-native adapters... Once it doesn't detect the 2 inner notches in the circular plug, it runs on battery until this dies... The assumption is that older/alien PSUs can't deliver 170W @ 20V (>8A), hence it cuts off the plug.

  • 65W problem

Hi guys I have 3000 n200 769 erg. The problem is my old ac adapter is dead. I bought new one but its 65w. Old adapter was 90w. Now the new still charges my laptop but i cant use touchpad or USB slots. Keyboard works. When I plug off ac adapter, everything is ok . so what can I do?
Can I force my laptop to use battery energy while charging?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    hi Blaxis,
It's ideal that you purchase the same identical AC adapter for your unit as some components may not function correctly due to insufficient power (like in your case, the Touchpad and USB ports are inoperable). If you can still return the 65W AC adapter, I recommend you get a 90W version of it.
    - Link to picture (page94 of the HMM)
    - Sample item
As for forcing the laptop to use the battery energy while charging, I believe you can't do this as the unit's configured to route the power to the AC adapter everytime its plugged-in.

  • X61 A/C Adapter on an X1?

Can I use an X61 A/C adapter to charge an X1?   I have a few spare X61 adapters lying around - and it would be nice if I could use them with my new X1.
The X61 adapter states 65W 20V with Input of 100-240V and Output of 20V
My current X1 adapter states 90W 20V with Input of 100-240V and Output of 20V.
    Thanks!

yes you can. But the battery charging time will increase.
FYI, i use my 65 watt adapter when i am at home.

  • HP B500 Wireless Bluethooth Adapter for HP Printer Not Working With Windows 8.1

I have been using the HP BT500 bluetooth Wireless adapter to print wirelessly to my HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer.  I have been using Windows Vista, but recently upgraded to Windows 8.1.  I learned after the upgrade that the HP B500 wireless bluetooth adapter is not compatable with Windows 8.1.  I have attempted to find a driver upgrade for the B500, but there does not appear to be one available.  I have also searched the HP site and other sites in an attempt to locate an alter wireless blotth adapter to replace the B500, but have again been unable to locate one.
Is there a wireless bluetooth apter that will allow me to print wirelessly to my HP Office Pro 8500 from my laptop?

    Hi @Raider83,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that your HP B500 wireless bluetooth adapter for your HP Officejet 8500 is not working with Windows 8.1. I am sorry to hear this but happy to look into this for you!
I am not sure if you are using a 32-bit or 64-bit Operating System. But sometimes with Windows 8.1 you can use compatibility mode to install an older version of the driver. Which might help the situation. Here is a link to some other Windows drivers, HP bt500 Bluetooth USB 2.0 Wireless Adapter Drivers.
Once you got a driver downloaded, follow this guide, Make older programs compatible with this version of Windows, on how to install it using compatibility mode.  It is not guaranteed to work, but it is worth a try!
If you still need me to look for other bluetooth adapters, please respond with your printer's Product/Model Number. To find your printer's Product/Model Number follow instructions in this link. Finding Your HP Product Model Number. As there are multiple HP Officejet 8500 printers.
