Dv9000 turns on and off intermittently, wont start at all

Ok, today out of nowhere, everything on the screen of my pavillion dv9000 went screwy (repeated lines diagonally across the whole thing). Nothing was responding, or at least i couldnt see it responding, so i held the power button down to force shut it down. After that, whenever i tried to turn it back on, the lights, fan, and cd drive (or something else, sorry im not sure what it would be) came back on for a couple seconds, and then everything turned back off. Nothing come on the screen, not even the backlight. It then repeated this same thing every few seconds, even if i held down the power button, so i took the battery out to make it stop. One time it started booting up again (i did nothing different), but it only got past the first loading screen and then was blank for several minutes. I took the battery out, let it sit for half an hour, and i tried again. It still did the same thing but now the time that the lights, fan, drive are on is only about half a second. I've had the laptop for about 2 years and it has worked almost perfectly until today. Please help?

I placed this post in another thread, but it sounds like you have a damaged GPU.
I had this problem, but I have fixed it now. Fix below.
I have FIXED my misbehaving PC, and it is running better than ever!
I had the common problem that the GPU had overheated and had become unsoldered from the motherboard.
Here is how to fix it without spending hundreds of pounds/dollars!
Equipment/skills required...
*Small flat head electrical screwdriver
*Small Heat gun or jet lighter
*basic assembly knowledge of your laptop.
*know what a GPU is.
Firstly, strip the pc down to it's basic components, IE. screen, keyboard...
remove the motherboard and unscrew the heatsink from the board, leavint the CPU and GPU
exposed.
Remove the CPU from it's mount to prevent damage to it in the next step.
Surround  the GPU with kitchen foil, making sure not to cover it. (the foil dissipates heat and protects
the surrounding components)
now use a chef's style heat gun or jet lighter to heat up the GPU evenly, moving the flame in small circles, heating it up evenly. Spend about five minutes on this. (there is a covering of wax on the processor, don't worry about that...)
Remove the foil, but DO NOT throw it away! Fold a part of it up so it is approximately the same length and width as the chip on the GPU, but a little thicker. Put this folded foil onto the GPU to hold it there firmly when you put the heatsink back on. Place the heat sink and fan assembly back on the motherboard. If you cannot feel or see a pressure over the graphics processor unit, make the foil block a little thicker. make sure the foil is not touching any of the little capacitors or solder balls on the GPU. (you want to get lots of pressure with the foil. This will stop the graphics processor from coming loose again.
Put the entire pc back together and try it.
It worked well for me!
Here's a link to the entire thread.

  • My bluetooth turns on and off intermittently

Recently my bluetooth accessories are intermittently connected and reconnected every couple of minutes.
This annoying and when my logitech trackpad disconnects and I click the bluetooth icon in the menu bar
it says that "bluetooth is unavailable.

  • MacBook Pro can turn on and off, but does not start up. Stays on white screen with flashing folder icon, does not go to desktop.

MacBook Pro is not starting up. It just stays on a white screen with a flashing folder icon. Have tried restarting while holding the Option key, and the cursor becomes visible and movable, but it does not go to the desktop.

    Hello Sonya_Rose,
I found this article when researching the issue you describe here named A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac found http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1440.
    Check the mouse and keyboard
This issue might occur if a mouse or trackpad button is pressed during startup. Make sure the button isn't pressed.
If the issue persists, shut down your Mac with its power button, disconnect any external mouse and keyboard, then turn on your Mac with its power button. If the flashing question mark issue persists, reconnect the keyboard and mouse.
    Additional steps
If your Mac still starts to a flashing question mark, follow the steps below. If any step resolves the issue, you don't need to continue to the next one.
Select your Mac OS X startup disk with Startup Manager by restarting and holding the Option key. After your Mac starts up, restart again to verify that the flashing question mark does not appear.
If the issue persists, insert your Mac OS X installation disc. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc.
MacBook Air note: On a MacBook Air, there are two options for starting up from Mac OS X media: Either connect a MacBook Air SuperDrive to the MacBook Air via the USB port and restart the computer, holding down the C key during startup, or use Remote Install Mac OS X to startup from a system software DVD that's located on a partner computer. Once started up from Mac OS X media, skip to step 3.
Restart the computer, then hold the C key during startup.
From the Utilities menu, choose Disk Utility. Don't click Continue.
Select your Mac OS X disk (named "Macintosh HD" by default) in the left side of the Disk Utility window.
    Click the First Aid tab.
Click Repair Disk to verify and repair any issues with your Mac OS X startup disk.
After repairing the disk, try to start up normally.
Important: If Disk Utility finds issues it cannot repair, you may need to back up as much of your data as possible (or use Time Machine to back up to a different disk), then erase the disk and reinstall Mac OS X. You should back up important files and data before erasing a drive. Erasing deletes everything on the hard disk (including things on your desktop). Also, you can install Mac OS X onto an external disk, start from the external disk, and use Migration Assistant to transfer items from your usual internal Mac OS X startup disk to the external disk, then erase the internal disk and reinstall Mac OS X.
If the issue persists, and Disk Utility didn't find any irreparable issues, quit Disk Utility, quit the Installer, select your disk when prompted, and restart.
If the issue continues, reset PRAM. Note: After resetting PRAM, if the computer starts up normally, reselect the startup disk in the Startup Disk preferences.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, start up from the Mac OS X Installation disc and reinstall Mac OS X.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • Ipod wont stop turning on and off

The weirdest thing just happened. I was updating my ipod and then i unplugged it; not doing anything differently than i normally do. Now it keeps turning on and off, but it's not going to the main display page. It gives me the apple logo and then turns off and on again. I tried plugging it back in the computer and that didn't work, and i tried shutting it down and that didn't work either. What should I do?

Try to put it into disk mode

  • My backlit keyboard will not go off automaticaly i have the box checked but it still doesn't turn on and off. i am having to do it using the f5 and f6 keys. anyone know how to make it work automatically in low light?

i am having a problem with my back lit keyboard on my 13in mac book pro. i have the box checked in the keyboard setting for auto so the keyboard should turn on and off in low light conditions but it doesnt. anyone know how i can getit to work properly?

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

  • Tv turns on and off. can't stop it.

the tv tries to turn on then it shuts off. It does this continually until I unplug it. The power light flashes.  The model is 32AV502R, LCD Television. Please help.

I'm having a similar problem with a Toshiba 46XV640UZ.  The image turns on and off, randomly, intermittently, whether via live stream, DVR recording, or DVD output.  Usually for 15 minute segments or longer.  When the image is on, it is crystal clear--perfect.  When it shuts itself off, it is black, totally dark, even when I shine a flashlight on it.  The image goes on and off immediately-no lines, pixelation, or slow darkening or fading of the image.  Whether the image is on or off, I have sound that is constant, so the power is definitely working and not going out.  The TV is getting a constant audio signal, which tells me my cables are fine.  There is no way the cables are being hit, or touched, based on where the TV is mounted and connected.
The image problem occurs via my Xbox and Cable Box.  My Xbox is connected through video cables and my cable box is connected through a HDMI cable, so the problem is not isolated to one cable type or cable input.  The TV is not a smart TV.
Anyone have suggestions or a similar problem?  I'm seeing a lot of complaints here, but no responses from Toshiba representatives.  Has anyone received any help from a Toshiba rep here? Or are we just providing them with free trouble shooting feedback concerns for their next generation devices?

  • My ipod is turning on and off and i cant do anything with it i've tried reseting syncing and all the stuff i found here yet it still turns on and off help ASAP please

What do i do to fix my ipod??? it just keeps turning on and off. i cant even do anything on it literally except for reseting it... holding the top button wont do nothing cuz it takes too long for the turn off slider to pop up. please help ASAP

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Perform a "hard reset" on the device by pressing down and holding the home button and the sleep/wake button for up to 30secs. until you see a black screen with the Apple logo, then release.

My iPod touch is stuck in landscape view.  Even when held vertically if I open facebook or safari is rotates to landscape.  Have tried turning on and off, same results. Any ideas to fix?

Try switching it back from landscape to vertical. Or, go to settings and see if you have any special setting turned on that enable only landscape view. Also, try hooking it up to your computer and charging it to see what happens.

  • How to use a slider to turn on and off lights

Hi guys. i am fairly familiar with Labview now but cant seen to get my head around this problem. i have a slider which is numbered from 1 to 10. below the slider i inserted 10 LED lights. my aim sis to use the slider to turn on and off the lights. for an exmaple, when i set the slider to one, the light on the far left should go on. when i set the slider to 2, the first light should go on and the second light next to it should go on, and the pattern continues. i thought of using the number to array boolean but it didnt seem to do the trick. could you please help me out. i have attached the basic layout of how i wanted the objects to be arranged
    kind regards

wow! simplicity at its best! thats really straight forward to understand. i think you are right about making complicated circuits. the reason why i had asked to know how to do this was because i wanted to learn how to control motor directions using a slider. so after i thought i had got the easiest way of giving out 2 different outputs using a slider, i replaced the lights with switches that changed the direction of the motor. i successfully did this for the first motor and it rotated fairly well, but wanted to control 4 in total. so i simply copied and pasted the code and re-asigned the switches to different motors. when i did this, the results did work BUT the motors went very very slow. the movement was not steady and kept skipping. i think this its due to the coding being overly complicated thefore causing a serious lag. if you could please have a look
    kind regards

  • How to Set Automatic to turn on and off at specified time my TV with STB

It seems very frustrating talking with Verizon tech support, that's why I turn to you guys to find if anyone knows the answer to my question above.,from my experience calling verizon for my tech support regarding fiosTV and most of my experience from Verizon are either inept and giving the customer the run around by keeping you on hold for the longest and not having the answer after all the time I spend with the tech on the phone or they will tell you that the that there is no such thing; and when you call again when you get another tech on the phone you get completely different answer if not an inept answer.
My Specific question is, if  I turned off my STB (top box) and my TV at a particular time; and I like my TV with STB to turn on at a specified time ( example I turned off my STB and TV at 9:00 PM ) and would like my TV with the STB to be turn on like 11:00 PM to turn off at 12:00 midnight by itself, not to record  but just to turn on as reminder and to serve as power saver incase I fall asleep ( this is just example scenario). How would I do that? The manual of either remote control or the STB does not provide that information. My television manual say the TV can but I can not turn it on automatically with the STB connected.
I called Verizon tech, he first sounded inept and sounded like he just talking from a scripted lines, and would not tell me straight forward that he does not know the answer; I  explained that I switched to Verizon Fios for its claim in high and advance technology as they compare themselves by far higher in technology as compared with Cable or direct TV, and with Cable Vision I was able to used the above automatic turn on and off with the remote; I asked for his supervisor or maybe more expert tech support, He turned over the call to his supervisor, who told me that the STB or the remote Fios TV does not have that level of capability which sounded to me like a joke, he also told me that the STB can not be turn on and off because STB is always set as on; I told him I can see the green light turns on and off on the STB each time I press the ON button on the Verizon Remote; he defended that its always on because the timer is ON, and he told me instead FIOSTV has another feature that although it will not turn the feature on and off automatically, it will serve as reminder, I asked him How to carry out that function, the tech supervisor said  to me to just press the record button on my remote, which I know right away that it will just record, and  I told him that its not what I want to accomplish, this Tech Supervisor insisted that it will not record but will set to notify me, but surely it did record and it just wasted and used my DVR memory capacity the time when he put me on hold for a long period of time, I knew it recorded because the red button on the STB/TVR was on., and it did not notify me in anyway what time the TV and STB will turn on. That was a complete  waste of time, instead of him getting the issue to higher level of their tech support and try to research thru and get back to the client. To me, simple feature as this, is such absurd to claim that fiosTV has more advance features than others, where infact they can not even have their tech support answer such simple question.
Any one here has any idea, please help.

The set top box does not offer any auto on or auto off feature.
you can only do that if your TV offers the feature.
If neither your TV nor the STB offer that feature (in this case the stb does not offer) then you can go to a radio shack or a similiar store and purchase a AC timer.  they make them and you plug them into your wall, they are very cheap.
I have had directv and fios and neither of my systems did an automatic on or off.
BUT my samsung TV upstairs does have that feature (auto on and off)   and I have not checked my mitsubishi downstairs.
so you may want to check your settings on your TV to see if it will do it, like my samsung does.

  • Where in gods name is the homesharing button, I see a little cloud that you cannot click on and tells you what account you have but thats is. There's an option for turning on and off homesharing, but no button to access the actual library of the other PC

Where in god’s name is the homesharing button, I see a little cloud that you cannot click on and tells you what account you have but that's it. There's an option for turning on and off homesharing, but no button to access the actual library of the other PC. On either PCs. Both are logged in and both are registered for homesharing. however because apple keeps updating and moving things around for no reason there appears to be no way of accessing the homsharing button in the latest version of itunes. the website refers to " Once set up, all the libraries from your computers you've enabled Home Sharing on will show up in the SHARED area of iTunes:" well I have searched all over in the recent itunes versions and there is no "shared area" to be found.
Please find the attachment of a screen cap of my itunes.
If anyone can help by telling me where it has been moved to or if it even still exists that would be much appreciated.
