Dv9000 webcam not recognised

have: dv9000 w/ 1.3 mp camera, W7 Ultimate 64bit
issue: webcam is not recognised in device manager (imaging device) and not recognised using belarc either. thus no webcam
question: is this hardware related i.e. faulty mobo? bad connection from webcam to mobo? what test can i perform to determine the exact cause of having no webcam?
if a train comes to a stop at a train station then what becomes of work at a workstation?
This question was solved.

Most likely the webcam module up at the top behind the screen bezel has gone bad. Very common. The other scenarios like bad cable are possible, just not likely. The webcam module is so cheap it pays to just buy one and try it first before you pull your hair out with other possible solutions:

  • Generic USB webcam not recognised

I have a USB Webcam ( it doesn't say who makes it) and after trying macam it doesn't work. It is recognised in the System profiler as a Generic Digital camera, so this might help.

Definitely USB 2 and yes- it's own USB port. I'll test this weekend when I give her the camera.
But I will likely do a test with an iSight later this year - FireWire vs USB -
Any other comments and especially people's personal experiences with FW WebCams vs USB appreciated.

I buy a product over the counter in the UK and register it with HP, I cannot download drivers as the HP UK site does not recognise the serial number I registered???
I pay out money but actually get nothing accept 3 hours unpaid work navigating the bloated complexity of "support" ???.

A predictable response, you get loads of "kudos" for that.
Where's the button for "No Kudos" then?

  • Chicony Webcam Not Working on Satellite Pro A350d-202

    System Specification:
    Satellite Pro a350d-202
    Windows 7 64bit
I am not sure if this is related but since I updated my laptop to Windows 7 my Chicony Webcam has stopped working. I have tried all of the following:
Complete rebuild of my system from scratch.
    +Unsuccessful+
    Safe Mode drivier installation
+For some reason, it doesnt let me log in via safe mode. I get to the windows log in screen and it reboots itself after a few seconds. Any explanations? Again, have rebuilt PC a few times.+
No Device for webcam in Control panel devices and printers or hardware.
+Manually installing drivers as recommended doesnt work. I cant see the webcam being recognised+
Half closing the lid of the laptop to hear it recognising the camera or new device.
    +Unsuccessful. This does not happen+
In essence, i want to know if this is a Windows 7 compatibility issue or a Toshiba technical fault.
Either way an OFFICIAL word from Toshiba would be key here as I was using the webcam for vital web conferencing for work and now I cant.
Please provide any options or anything else I can try.
Any suggestions deeply valued. Including links or other articles I may have missed
    Desperately seeing a solution.
    Regards
    Danny

The Chicony webcam should be listed in device manager under the option Imagine devices. There you should see USB Video Device entry.
Can you see that?If yes, delete this from the device manager and reboot the unit.
+I see nothing. No entry in imaging devices. No entry in USB devices.+
Usually the Windows 7 should recognize the cam automatically and should refresh the driver. Is it the case?
+Nope. Windows 7 picks up all other drivers. All other software all other facilities. Just not the camera. Laptop works perfectly otherwise, just not cam :(...+

  • Skype Secondary - will not recognise camera/audio

Windows XP.  Since upgrading to version 7.7.0.102 when I start up my Secondary account Skype is not recognising my camera/audio and I get the following message under Tools/Options/Video Settings:
"Can't start video.  Try closing programs qhich might be using your webcam" Any suggestions and help much appreciated.

Have just done a system restore to before the new version of Skype was installed.  Now back on version 7.5.85.102 and all is working perfectly.
Could it be that the latest version of Skype is not compatible with Win XP? Hope that this helps others.

  • Webcams not always being detected in Linux??

    Taken from http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php?topic=103456.0
My webcam works great with Skype and Cheese and it used to work great with a program called FaceFlow but now when i try to use it with FaceFlow i get the following pop-up: Adobe Flash Player can't locate a camera on my computer? I have installed via Synaptic the latest version of Adobe Flash Player which is 11,1,102,63 but without any affect?
Would it be possible to uninstall the present version of Adobe and use an older version in the hope that the webcam will be recognised?"
I did a quick test of FaceFlow the other day ......  I have two webcams for testing, one is an older model and the other a uvc compatible device.
Faceflow would not recognise the older model, only the uvc camera.
Seems you have come across the same problem  "
    What's the problem with this?

Please post this in Flash Player forum

  • MBA (mid 2013) and Cisco Jabber Video client not recognising any camera

The Cisco Jabber Video client is not recognising the internal Facetime HD camera nor the external USB Logitech Webcam C920.
This was not working from the beginning. Cisco is aware of this issue and promised to deliver a fix in the next release of their software.
After installing the 10.8.5 Update from App Store and the 10.8.5 Supplemental update the Cisco client was able to recognize the external camera.
After that I followed a hint to install the Combo update this should enable Skype to recognise the Facetime HD camera. After installing the Combo update Skype was able to recognize the internal and external camera (by the way the quality of preview video using Facetime HD was brilliant and much better than the internal camera of a MBA from 2012). BUT after that update the Cisco client was no longer recognising a camera.
I run a recovery installation of 10.8.4 - but the result was again a 10.8.5. If I try now to run a recovery install I only get a recovery of version 10.8.5 offered.
I did a SMC reset, a parameter RAM reset, tried to start in saved mode but nothing helped.
Any other ideas how to get a least an external camera working again with Cisco Jabber Video?

Similar problem here. I have a Logitech C615 camera/microphone plugged into my MAC mini running OSX 10.9.3. Today, JABBER could not find the camera (although it found the microphone?). I was running 4.5.7 and so downloaded v4.8.6 and reinstalled: no camera. I also downloaded the cloud version: no camera.
I was not running either Vidyo or Polycom RealPresence at the same time as JABBER
But, when I did run these apps, my camera & microphone both work.
    Suggestions?

  • Acer aspire one webcam not working

    Dear all,
I'm having trouble getting the built-in camera in my Acer Aspire One (AOA110 - Ab) to work. It should be an Acer Crystal Eye camera, or a "Microdia Sonix USB" (from here)
In either case, according the Archlinux wiki (link) the uvcvideo module should make it work, and I have added it to my rc.conf.
Whenever I try to open the camera using whichever program, however, I get a message of the camera not being found. Wxcam, for instance, gives the following error:
/dev/video0: No such file or directory
lsusb also doesn't list the camera:
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
And these are all the video/webcam related entries I could find in dmesg:
    [ 0.242888] pci 0000:00:02.0: Boot video device
    [ 0.264486] input: Video Bus as /devices/LNXSYSTM:00/device:00/PNP0A08:00/LNXVIDEO:00/input/input4

[ 7.136704] usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo
    [ 7.136712] USB Video Class driver (v1.0.0)
I remember the webcam working somewhere in the past, but I can't remember when. I'm using the kernel-netbook kernel, but booting with the normal kernel doesn't seem to make any difference.
I haven't tried it with other distributions yet.
Any ideas on what could be the matter? Or any steps I could still take?

Hm, well, glad you've got it working, but my problem, unfortunately, remains.

Can't see anything that could be the webcam, really...
Edit: I just booted with the standard kernel to make sure, and the webcam is still not recognised.
The outputs for grepping dmesg with "usb" or "video" are even less filled:
    $ dmesg | grep "video"
    [ 0.343737] pci 0000:00:02.0: Boot video device
    [ 3.864420] Linux video capture interface: v2.00

[ 3.936822] usbcore: registered new device driver usb
[ 3.955698] usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo
When I checked /var/dmesg.log, however, there were some more informative entries (maybe, they don't help me much):
    [ 0.343737] pci 0000:00:02.0: Boot video device
    [ 3.864420] Linux video capture interface: v2.00
[ 3.955698] usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo

    [ 5.393661] input: Video Bus as /devices/LNXSYSTM:00/device:00/PNP0A08:00/LNXVIDEO:00/input/input5
[ 5.393859] ACPI: Video Device [OVGA] (multi-head: yes rom: yes post: no)
These entries are also present in /var/dmesg.log when booting with kernel-netbook, so there does not appear to be any different behaviour. The only difference I can see is that kernel-netbook does detect my multi-card reader.

  • Windows Vista - iTunes not recognising iPod!

iTunes is not recognising my iPod and the iPod Setup Assistant isn't showing automatically. Can anyone help. I have a new laptop with Window Vista is this operating system the problem? Can help would be appreciated. I can import music into iTunes OK and purchase music from iTunes itself I just can't get iTunes to recognise my iPod!

    >*So here I am with the issue still not resolved. How do i Download and install the latest chipset drivers >in order to have Toshiba Satellite L300 & Microsoft Vista recognise my ipod?
Install an hardware diagnostic tool like Everest home Edit or similar.
This tool would provide all hardware details about your notebook.
It would list all devices and chipset name too.
I think its Intel chipset so you could find the driver on the Intel page

  • Ipod not recognised by Windows, USB device not recognised

    Hi hope someone can help
I have recently received my ipod back from Applecare who have sent the ipod back in ' working order ' but it will no longer be recognised by my windows. It says USB device not recognised and i cant find, nor will it install drivers that i located on the ipod updater etc.
I have tried several methods on this forum but none seem to work.
The letter from mycare says the iPod is formatted for a computer operating Mac OS X. Although i stated wi use Windows. But the leter states this can be changed bu installing the updater, but this wont make a diff as comp still wont regonise the device after i have followed there instructions. Any advice?
    Thanks

I'm not really up on the complexities of the Windows OS but try this tip I picked up a while back, hopefully it might help.
"USB Device not Recognized in Windows".
    1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click the System icon.
    3. Click the Hardware tab.
    4. Click Device Manager.
    5. Scroll down the list of devices to the Universal Serial Bus controllers
    6. Click the plus icon next to the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    7. Double-click one of the indented USB Root Hub entries.
    8. Click the Power Management tab.
    9. Deselect the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option.
    10. Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
    11. Restart the computer.

  • Ipod not recognised on either of 2 computers

My ipod is not recognised by windows or itunes.
Tried it on my friend's computer, and again not recognised by windows or itunes.
ipod plays ok, so I assume there's a problem with the USB port on the ipod itself.
Not found any useful help on the support site.
I don't imagine this can be repaired - any ideas?

Success! I reset my ipod (menu + center) and restarted my laptop, and now my ipod connects again.
    Have you tried that?
THANK YOU! I have spent 4 hours doing everything the website said, including unistalling all of Itunes versions, going into Hardware Update, going into My Computer and "managing" it, emptying my TEMP folder, and finally I had the massive brainstorm to go into the discussion board, and reseting the iPod did it! You are a savior!
BTW, to the poster who asked if the new version did it. Absolutely. I downloaded it last night and everything gave up the ghost immediately after.

  • IPod Nano: Error Message "The USB device has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it"

Hi everyone, I just received 2 brand new iPod Nanos for my kids for Christmas, thought I'd be smart and sync them both now before wrapping them so I don't have to be messing around with them on the day. One synced without a problem, then using the same cable, same computer, same USB port, the 2nd one came up with "The USB device has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it" I've tried restarting my computer, unplugging and reinserting the USB. Is there anthing else I can try before returning it? Thanking you for any help.

I have solved my problem, I ended up ringing Apple and got an awesome lady who told me to reset it by pressing the sleep button and menu button together for about 10 seconds and once it actually turned on for the first time the computer then recognised it, so it's all good, :-) Thank you lovely lady!

I recently connected my new ipad to my itunes, but now itunes will not recognise my ipod classic, and 50gig of music has gone. ipad connects ok but no longer ipod which has been there for two years! help!!!

What happens when the iPod is plugged in?  anything?  any errors?
Why is 50GB of music gone?  All music should exist on the computer.  Only a fool would rely on a single device which could easily be lost or stolen to store their content on.

I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS. Tried synching my phone through iTunes (11.0.1 I think... on a 2009 Macbook Pro). Now when I connect to iTunes, it says it does not recognise the content on my phone. Is this because my phone (and laptop) are too old?
Also, when I tried to Restore the settings, an Error Message pops up that says " The iPhone software update server could not be contacted. The requested resource was not found.
I'm trying to free up space on my phone by removing [literally] thousands of old photos which were originally synched to the phone, because I had forgotten to uncheck the photos button when I synched it ages ago.
I have also tried synching it on my 24" iMac (running OSX Snow Leopard). But again, when I try restoring the phone through itunes, it says the file is corrupted. It sggests unplugging the device, and then plugging it in again. I have done this numerous times with no success.
I'm guessing it must be because my phone (and versions of iTunes, and OSX) are all too old.
