Dv9260us - Is Intel Rapid Storage possible and what is the SATA speed supported

I was reviewing a post for upgrading my dv9000 to Windows 7. I noticed they there was a link to the drivers for the Intel Chipset but immediately below it was a link for Rapid Store Technology (for RAID). This laptop has two drives and I never saw anything about Rapid Store on the laptop before. Is it possible to implement this? Also, it seems the two drives that the unit comes with max at 1.5 Gbit/s and I'm trying to determine if the board support 3.0 Gbit/s. Answers to the above would help me choose the right parts. If Rapid Store can be implemented I'll buy 2 new drives. If the board supports 3.0 I'll get a faster drive (possibly two if Rapid Store can be used). Thanks in advance...

  • Intel Rapid Storage Technology and the Envy 700-330qe

    I have a new Envy 700-330qe CTO. One of the suggested driver updates on the hp support is for Intel Rapid Storage Technology. I initially thought that this was a driver for hardware like my old Pavilion had (it had an Intel Matrix Storage Manager board which managed RAID 0, 1, or 0+1).  Now I see that it is a RAID software emulation program. Nowhere in the documention that came with the machine is there any mention of this machine's capability to run any form of RAID. I do have two HDD's and they are the same size, so theoretically I could run RAID 0 or 1 if I so choose, but nowhere is there any mention of a way to do this. I did see that the BIOS must be set to run RAID.
    I am NO expert. I was wondering where I can find further into on how to set up a machine with RAID. Thus far, I have not even taken a peek at the BIOS (not even sure how to do this, so some of you may think I am stupid). I guess I get a  bit bent out of shape when a product has features that should be out in the open but appear to be hidden. Any help would be reallyhl appreciated.

    I am sure that you noticed that the HP configurator doesn't offer an option to cache a RAID configuration.  The Intel IRST MSATA caching functionality does rely on the RAID setup process to activate caching on one HD.

    Can I store my iTunes file in the cloud, so that my wife and I can access it from various devices.
    Devices would include 2 iPhone 6S, 2 iPad2s, couple of iPods and a MacBook Air.
    We can't save all the music to a hard drive due to storage size.
    If we save it to the Cloud, can we create playlists and only download these as /when we need them?

    Your music needs to be in your iTunes library on your computer or on an external drive. Read this user topic Make and keep a backup of your iTunes library, and only stream from the cloud.
    You can only use one Apple ID with match. For your wife to get access to your music in the cloud, you will need to use your Apple ID

    Does anyone know if the msata slot in the T530 uses sata2 or sata3 speeds?
    Likewise with the main drive bay, and the ultrabay slim sata adapter. Are those sata2 or sata3?

  • Error in Intel Rapid Storage Technology "Reset to normal"

    Hi,
    My Notebook is HP Envy 17 3D
    OS: Windows 7 Home 64 bit
    When I start the pc I got an error in my hard disk raid system. but when i choose continue, then i can access my windows do any thing but I have to open the Intel Rapid Storage Technology and I see an alert on my hard disk and then I have to click on 'Reset to normal"
    I am facing slowness in my pc.

    The ExpressCache software on the SSD is designed to improve overall system performance and greatly speed up Windows PC startup, application launches and data access. Further information regarding ExpressCache can be at this knowledgebase article. For this software to work, you do no need the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver installed. When running the command eccmd.exe -info I assume you are finding this software is running as per normal, and you are not recieving any error messages, such as ERROR** ECCmd Request device is not available. However, if you do encounter this software not working as per normal there are some instructions here to uninstall and reinstall this software. I hope this helps.

  • U510 won't boot after installing Intel Rapid Storage Technology

    I recently had to reinstall Windows 7 on my U510 after some virus/malware destroyed the boot record. After doing so I attempt to install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology and after rebooting  Windows launches its repair functionality. It runs for several minutes and is unable to repair and I can't get to the OS. Any ideas? I've subsequently re-installed Windows 7 and have not attempted another install of that software. Isn't this software necessary to take advantage of the SSD and swapping between the HDD and SDD? Thanks in advance!

    IRST only manages storage. You will need the software mentioned in that thread in post 2, but just check since that thread is for U530.

  • Lenovo G500 - Intel Rapid Storage Technology" SATA disk on Controller 0, Port Unknown detected"

    Hi Folks,
    I have a lenovo G500 laptop which i had purchased during thanksgiving vaction in 2013. The machine was working fine till June 2014 when I stated getting Blue Screen of death with error messages "irql_not_less_or_equal" The OS was windows 8.1. This created lot of problem while booting , the machine would not boot at all.
    Along with this message I started getting this message "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" SATA disk on Controller 0, Port Unknown detected".  This message was coming very often.
    I along with Lenovo support did all the things possible, like factory reset etc. Finally the machine was sent out to depot for repair in July 2014. They replaced the hard drive and sent the machine back.
    I got the machine back on 22nd July and since last week ,ie, 14th July I have started to get the issues again. My IE and Firefox will suddenly hangon and the blue screen will appear again with same message "irql_not_less_or_equal" occasionally. Yesterday i started getting Sata disk message again.
    I wanted to understand why this message is coming back along with blue screen of death. Is there some problem with Windows OS or hard disk seems to crash again?

    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
    From this article, this is the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL possible cause:
    "This bug check is issued if paged memory (or invalid memory) is accessed when the IRQL is too high.
    The error that generates this bug check usually occurs after the installation of a faulty device driver, system service, or BIOS.
    If you encounter bug check 0xA while upgrading to a later version of Windows, this error might be caused by a device driver, a system service, a virus scanner, or a backup tool that is incompatible with the new version."
    From your description, It's possible that the HDD or the RAM is faulty but it's also possible that it's a software (driver) issue -- which is the hard drive (SATA) controller.
    To verify, I would:
    1. Run a diagnostic on the HDD (via Lenovo's Storage Quick Test or via HD Tune)
       - http://www.hdtune.com/faq_1.html
    2. Run a diagnostic on the RAM (via Memtest86+)
       - RAM - Test with Memtest86+
    3, Read the BSOD dump file to see what file caused the crash
       - How to solve Windows 8 crashes in less than a minute
       - If the file is associated with the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver (SATA Controller), uninstall the software from the Control Panel > Programs and let Windows install a generic Windows driver.

    If you get an error after running the diagnostic test, I recommend you contact Lenovo and report the issue.

  • G500 need help with Intel Rapid Storage Technology email notifications configuration.

    I have a new Lenovo G500 laptop running Win 8.1. I have discovered the Rapid Storage Technology icon and have been trying to set up email notifications in Preferences using the desktop interface.
    Without going into a lengthy description about what I have done already, I can tell you that I have configured the Email Preferences so the test email does not fail immediately, but it does not send the email, either; it just spins In Progress without stopping until cancelled manually using the button. I get no error messages.
    I have looked at firewall and allowing IntelCpHeciSvc.exe through because I wanted to see if it made a difference; I have looked for Intel entries in System Configuration & Task Manager Services to try and find a reason for the test email not sending, there.
    I have the correct SMTP host address and corresponding Port correct, having gleaned the info from BT's web site, and all the email addresses I have included are active.
    Can anyone suggest what I am failing to address?

  • W530 Windows 8 Intel Rapid Storage Technology

    Hello,
    I am a brand new W530 owner, and new to Lenovo products.
    Has anyone here been able to get Rapid Start technology to work on a fresh install of Windows 8 on the W530?
    I have been trying to solve crashes when my laptop goes to sleep, and believe it is due to the Rapid Storage configuration. I purchased the Windows 8 version, but had to reinstall the operating system (it came with 8 but I needed 8 enterprise to join a domain at work). 
    After reinstalling everything and using the Lenovo System Update utility to get all the latest drivers, my system would crash after going to sleep. When starting back up after sleep, I would receive the windows error message "Your PC encountered a problem and needed to restart". It didn't happen with every sleep, and seemed to occur when it was asleep for a long period of time. After poking through the BIOS, I saw that the Rapid Start technology was enabled with a timer of 3 hours, which seemed to explain the issue for me, so I set out to make sure that was working.
    Since it was a fresh install of windows, I had no hibernation partition, so I followed the guidelines here:

    I used DiskPart to create the partition, set it to 32800 (I have 32GB ram) and gave it the guid listed in the above article (my drive is GPT) as the ID.
    There is no PowerManager for Windows 8 so I dont have a graphical way to configure anything. Also, there are registry keys at HKLM/Software/WOW6432Node/Intel/irstrt that do not exist on my system that supposedly should be there.
    A little more info on my config - I have 32GB RAM, a 256GB mSATA SSD drive as my primary OS drive, and the stock 500GB SATA drive as another data drive. I created the hibernation partition on the SSD drive.

    Rapid Start refers to Intel's specific hibernation technology that has benefits beyond what Windows 8 standard hibernation provides.
    As I understand it, this enables your computer to go into a lower power sleep than standard windows 8 hibernation, which is why Lenovo calls it "30 day standby". I would like to take advantage of this and make sure that my machine doesn't crash when going into hibernation.
    Anyone else have any luck with this?

  • Intel Rapid Storage Technology (pre-OS) driver installation

    My desktop machine is built on Gigabyte GA-Z87-UD3H and Gigabyte provides the latest driver for Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST), which I installed after installing
    the OS. Same goes for my Lenovo Thinkpad-T420. And for both machine, checking the controller device under the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers section in Device Manager I see the driver has been updated to the latest version.
    I set the SATA controller to AHCI from BIOS
    On the desktop machine I have one WD 2TB BLACK & one WD 3TB Green
    - I don’t use RAID, & no chance of using in near future, but according to Intel IRST improves performance in single disk scenario too.
    Now I have the following questions –
    What is the actual purpose of IRST (pre-OS install) driver that doesn’t get served with a post-OS driver that I installed? There must be some difference, otherwise there wouldn’t be a pre-OS version of the driver. Right?
    In the pre-OS procedure (loading the drivers at OS-installation time) after successfully completing the OS installation, do I need that post-OS driver? Because after installing from that one I got a quick launch icon that runs the IRST configuration application.
    Where do get that after installing the pre-OS driver?
    As it is “pre-OS”, when I load it at OS-installation time, does it updates anything at BIOS level or anywhere other than HDD? That’s because I’m going to dual boot Windows 7 with Windows 8.1, and after installing Windows 7 when I install Windows 8.1 &
    load the IRST driver for that, is there any chance of any “overwriting” or OS-incompatibility? In short, is there anything specific to follow while installing
    the second OS?

  • 9470m Intel Rapid Start, Intel Rapid Storage. Is it working?

    When we image our Elitebook Folio 9470m SSD notebooks with Windows 7, part of the imaging process is to install Intel Rapid Storage and Rapid Start on all these notebooks.  We download the drivers from the support.hp.com driver download page for Windows 7 Profession 64-bit.
    The software/drivers installs successfully with no errors, but as far as I can tell, the laptops are not booting or shutting down faster than other model laptops with SSDs that do not have this software installed.  May even be slower, because it seems like the Rapid Start Technology is hanging and delaying the the shut down process when we shut down the laptops.
    We have verbose status messages enabled, so when shutting down the laptops, we often see a message saying something that roughly says in other words  "waiting for Intel Rapid Start Technology to shut down."
    What is installing this software really accomplishing and is it effective on SSD disks and disks that have full disk encryption installed?
    How can I tell if this software is doing the job it is supposed to be doing or maybe we should stop installing it on our notebooks all together?

    Are these using regular 2.5 inch SSDs or mSATA mSSDs? I suspect the issue is with Intel Rapid Start. That is solely for the purpose of hibernating and recovering from hibernation faster. It really serves no other purpose and works optimally with an mSATA cache drive (which your model does not have) but does improve resume from sleep on any SSD. Intel Rapid Storage enables native command queing but that is in place anyway if the storage controller is set to ahci. I would also suspect that if your drives are encrypted fully, then Intel Rapid Start is having a problem trying to write startup information to the drive and that accounts for the hang at shutdown. Do you configure the laptops to use hibernation? 
    I would get two otherwise identical machines and configure one with and one without Intel Rapid Start and see if you notice any difference in bootup and shutdown time. Even on those where you have already installed Rapid Start, it can be turned off in the BIOS, thus disabling it. Personally I do not use hibernation so I do not enable Rapid Start in the BIOS and do not install the software. Rapid Storage should not cause a problem. 

  • Hard Drive Replacemen​t - Windows 7 Updates - Intel Rapid Storage - Lightscrib​e error 4224

    I recently needed to replace a damaged hard drive from overheating on a HP Pavilion dv4 notebook that comes with  Windows 7 Home Premium. The whole notebook had to be taken apart so that the dust, which had created a thick sweater, literally, blocking the CPU cooling fans, could be cleaned.
    But that was done, it's over with, just dreading the cleanup in the future. Installing a new hard drive was unexpectedly  difficult... replacing the physical part had nothing to it but, Windows 7 Updates could not work and Windows 7 SP1 installation from the dvd drive or otherwise did not work. To make it work I installed Intel Rapid Storage Technology (AHCI) package. I used the System Recovery Discs to format and install to factory settings before all else, of course... 
    All was nice and dandy until I started using Lightscribe to label the recovery discs. Error 4224 - communication error with the drive... etc etc. Updated the drivers and software from HP, completed all Windows 7 updates, updated the Lightscribe System Software and Template Maker, updated BIOS and that was a good thing, kept installing and uninstalling preinstalled HP bundles and antivirus sofware for another few days of irritating work to no avail. Finally, the culprit was found in the Intel Rapid Storage Technology installation!
    So, without Intel Rapid Storage Technology package there are no Windows 7 updates and the Windows Genuine error comes up, but with Intel Rapid Storage Technoly there's no Lightscribe functionality. I'm throwing my hands in the air after so much painstaking time spent with these issues. Is there any way around this bind? Is there a known fix to get the new hard drive to be recognized by Microsoft and have the Lightscribe functionality back?  

    Sometimes issues can arise when a driver is downloaded directly from the manufacturer, because in some cases, there are minor tweaks made to the one made specifically for your computer.
    Sometimes the developers (combination of HP software developers and the 3rd party maker's software developers) have to tweak the maker's original driver to work with all of the other components inside your particular computer. All of the dv4-2000s may have, for instance, a specific technology of hard drives and optical drives, but each different dv4-2XXX may have different brands of hard drives/optical drives.
    Graphics drivers are that way. I always recommend getting the ATI driver, not from ATI's website, but directly from the HP Driver Page, because getting the version on ATI's website will cause some issues with the HP Framework (which is responsible for making the whole web of specific components all work together) on the computer. After that several things have to be uninstalled and the correct versions have to be installed just to undo what that one driver version did.
    It gets a little complicated. Suffice it to say, always try to download it from the HP Driver Page for your model first. Then if that version or previous versions don't work, try downloading directly from the 3rd party maker's page. I hope that makes sense. Let me know if I need to clarify anything
    I'm going to recommend the following drivers:

    Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver version 8.9.2.1002 A
    Intel Turbo Boost Technology Driver version 1.0.0.1030 A
    Essential System Updates version 7.00 A
    LightScribe System Software version 1.18.18.1
    Also, please check and see what BIOS version you're currently on. To do that, press the FN + ESC keys and look for 'F.##' and let me know what that is. I'll compare it to the latest version and link you to that one if necessary.

  • T410 System Update 4 - Intel Rapid Storage AHCI Driver "Package did not install" Error

    I've not had a problem with system Update 4 until today.  I went out to check for any updates and there was only one (Optional) listed so I went ahead and tried to install it.
    It is Intel Rapid Storage AHCI Driver for Windows 64bit.  The installed version is 9.5.7.1002 and the version trying to be installed is 9.6.0.1014.  The progress bar indicated it downloaded and tried to install, but ended with the error, "1 Package did not install."  Not a lot of help in that statement!?!
    Has anyone had a problem like this before?  Any idea how to "fix" it so I can install this update?
    I even tried once with MS Security Essentials, Windows Firewall and UAC turned off with no difference.

    i noticed that after upgrading to windows 10 the laptop was running kinda sluggish, so i looked around and saw that something called IAStorDataSvc (32 bit) uses between 25 to 30 percent of the cpu all the time. i tried opening intel rapid storage control center but it shows some error message, what can i do? can i just stop the process? or will that mess something up? thanks
