DV9890ea

I  paid a lot of money for this laptop a few years ago and it is out of warranty.
I have the same problem as many other owners have reported. The computer just shuts down for no reason. I have to remove battery and re-install to be able to reboot it. The laptop can run on battery but shuts down when power cable is plugged in although not imediately. Shuts down if I try to run with power cable plugged in and no battery.
I really like the laptop, but is it worth repairing it or should I buy a new laptop (not HP) I assume it needs a new motherboard, but what if the new motherboard does the same after it is out of warranty again?
Bought the computer in the UK, but now living in Portugal so don't know what to do.

Seriously considering a new machine. Definately won't be HP again. Can't believe HP didn't offer to replace the motherboards for free given that the motherboards were massively flawed from new.
Just had a quote from a HP reseller for over 300 euros + IVA + postage for a new motherboard!? They must be joking.
I can buy a brand new computer with the same specs for that price.

    Hi:
No problem with the key working on SP1. I used my W7 key that I got on SP1 and my W7 Pro was without SP1.
You can use the free MS USB download tool.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
You may also need this and follow the instructions if you have trouble with the download tool working from the get-go.
I had to do this method below and it worked perfectly for me.
Download the bootsect file form http://www.everettsporting.com/bootsect.zip
Once downloaded, extract and copy the BootSect.exe file to the same folder that includes the installed Windows7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool.exe file. The default install directory of that file in Windows 7 is C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Apps\Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool\
Run the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool application as indicated on the Microsoft Store web site. The end result will give you a bootable USB flash drive that contains everything you need to install  Windows 7.
