DVB-S Tv Card Problems /dev/video

Hello,
I have a Terratec Cinergy DVB-S TV card, the modules (dvb-ttpci and others) are correctly loaded by hotplug. So far so good. Yet nothing works (tvtime & kdetv), it can't get a signal.
In the terminal, it says:
videoinput: Cannot open capture device /dev/video0: Keine Berechtigung
rtctimer: Cannot set periodic interval: Keine Berechtigung
("Keine Berechtigung" meaning "No permission")
When I look at /dev, I see that there is no video directory, nor a v4l.
I looked through these Forums but can't find anything useful.
Further specs:
1. v4l loaded in xorg.conf, tv card modules loaded
2. udev instead of devfs (which works fine everywhere else)
3. user is in video group (which I had to add by myself)
Here are excerpts of my udev-rules file:
# video devices
SUBSYSTEM="video4linux", GROUP="video"
KERNEL="dvb*", PROGRAM="/etc/udev/dvb.sh %k", NAME="%c", GROUP="video"
KERNEL="nvidia*", GROUP="video"
KERNEL="card[0-9]*", NAME="dri/%k", GROUP="video"
# v4l devices
KERNEL="video[0-9]*", NAME="v4l/video%n", SYMLINK="%k", GROUP="video"
KERNEL="radio[0-9]*", NAME="v4l/radio%n", SYMLINK="radio%e", GROUP="video"
KERNEL="vbi[0-9]*", NAME="v4l/vbi%n", SYMLINK="%k", GROUP="video"
KERNEL="vtx[0-9]*", NAME="v4l/vtx%n", SYMLINK="%k", GROUP="video"
I hope you can help me...
Greets,
Vic

Hello,
The thread you mentioned couldn't help me. I don't know what I have to do since I read through all the topics discussed here...
Again, I have "no permission" for the devices in question:
kdetv:
vicd@blackdeath ~]$ kdetv
kdetv: WARNING: [VBIDecoder::restart()] no permission to access device
tvtime:
vicd@blackdeath ~]$ tvtime
Starte tvtime 0.9.15.

  • MacBook Pro 15" video card problems (i think)

    Can anyone tell me if this is indeed a video card problem?
    MBP 15" info (Dec. 2011)
    Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    OS X Lion 10.7.5
    This is what happened:
    I use my mbp heavily because I edit a lot of videos with Premiere. I also use lightroom / photoshop alot + games. I also installed Parallels desktop late 2013. I don't know if that is relevant but anyway. Everything started late 2013 (a little after installing parallels actually) when there are moments when the audio wouldn't work and I couldn't adjust the volume. It would come back anyway so i didn't mind it. Then the fans were on high speed for little activity. After that the keyboard backlight couldn't be adjusted and wouldnt work. I ignored all of these cuz i wasn't troubling me at the time. In January i left for france to study - I use bike all the time and once stupidly placed my laptop on the basket going to school (rough roads). I had a class with html so I had to open Parallels, my teacher pointed out the fans and how loud they were. That day, parallels desktop said i must upgrade to windows 9 or it will restart every 2hours. I didn't of course. I didn't have time to.
    After that (a few days later i think) my laptop would randomly turn into a black screen but it's still on (the power LED is on) I tried turning it off by pressing down the power button and then turning it back on. It worked the first time. During the first week, the frequency of it happening grew. It would do it almost 3 times a day. during that same week I tried to do an SMC reset. It fixed the keyboard light, fans and audio but not the black screen thing. It just keeps on happening around 1-3 times a day. It only happens when I'm using it btw, never when I just leave it. ALSO, after a few days, it would take longer hours to open my mbp again. I mean, the screen would turn black. i would turn it off, then on again. I will ONLY hear the hard drive moving but no startup sound and no grey screen and apple logo. nothing.
    The following weeks after that, I asked a friend to help me out. He suggested that I install gfxCardStatus because he said it might be my video card. He instructed that I keep it on intergrated only. So I installed that and did what he said I thought it worked for a while because the black screens stopped happening (even when gfx keeps on going back to dynamic) BUT NOW, MY LAPTOP WOULD FREEZE (not turn black). I'd shut it down using the power button but it still takes me hours to open it again. Sometimes, I'd wait for the battery to drain because it would startup when i charge it (sometimes)
    I tried doing AHT as well to confirm the video card problem, but the results are no problems found. I really don't want to replace my logicboard here in france. everything is more expensive here. ;__;
    Today I uninstalled parallels to see if that might have had anything to do with my problem now but i think that's just wishful thinking.
    Can somebody tell me if this is really about the video card? Thank you

    Your appointment at the genius Bar in an Apple Store (anywhere in the world) for an evaluation is FREE, in warranty or out. Those guys put their hands on these Macs all day every day, and they are especially good at Physical and Power problems.
    Ask them.

  • Video card problem ?

    I had this problem 4-5 times

    can someone help me ? could it be a video card problem ? anyone had this problem ?
    I have to force shut down and it's quite annoying
    thanks

    Restart your MacBook and hold down on the "d" key for "diagnostics". This will startup the MacBook into the Apple Hardware Test. Run the extended tests. Let's see if you don't get an error when it checks the video system.

  • Problems with video card in CS4

    I'm having what I think is video problems since I switched to CS4. No problems with CS3 before, or any other programs except CS4, now. Frequent apparent redraws leave remnants on screen, panels move back and forth, etc.
    I have a Dell Precision 490 with 4gb ram and a nVidia Quadra fx 550 with 128 megs of ram. Open GL is enabled. I have loaded all the latest nVidia drivers.
    If this sounds like a video card problem, can anyone recommend a good, not too expensive card? I don't play any games, just use the machine for PS. ID and Flash mostly.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jon

    I am having the same problem with CS3 and CS4. Any luck on fixing your problem?

  • MacPro Early 2008 Display/Video Card Problem

    *Hello, I have a Dual Quad-Core 2.8Ghz MacPro (Early 2008) with the stock ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB Video Card. I believe I am having the exact same symptoms listed on the topic "Mac Pro 2008 Video Card Problem".*
    *MacPro has been working fine. Until one day, I power it on and the display stays black. There is nothing you can do besides holding down the power button and rebooting the computer. I have tried to do this many times and the display will not come up. I have also tried resetting the VRAM and PRAM settings - still did not work. I have had my MacPro for about one year and a half. It is in very good condition (no damage/no liquid/no overheating). From time to time, you power on the computer and the display works! It is very random. I am scared to turn off the computer or put it to sleep as this can also trigger the problem.*
    *I did not get the extended AppleCare (the MacPro itself already cost me about $3400!) I tested the Cinema Display and it is fine, therefore the problem is not coming from the display.*
    *I went to the Apple Store and they kept my MacPro for one night. Called me the next day telling me it was going to cost me approximately $800 in order to fix this problem. They claimed that either my Bluetooth module or my Main Logic Board was causing the display not to show. I am out of warranty, and I think it is very expensive. I am doing my research online in order to try and find a cheaper solution. After reading the discussions and checking out some other websites. I have a few questions:*
    *If I buy a NEW* ATI Radeon HD 2600 and install it in my MacPro - will it fix my problem?*
    *OR - I also heard about the ATI Radeon HD 4870 - Is that graphic card compatible with my MacPro - will that resolve the problem?*
    *Do you think I should give it a shot? Are there any other things I can try?*
    *I am thinking that I should try to replace the graphic card first and see if that is causing the problem instead of replacing the Main Logic Board right away (which will cost me over $500)*
    *Please let me know of any thoughts that come in mind. I really need some support. I am a college student studying Audio Engineering and I use my MacPro everyday on Pro Tools and Logic. This machine is my life.*
    *Thank You,*
    *Kevin C.*

    Glad you solved your problem Gaunja. Here's an update on my own.
    When last heard from I had diagnosed the failure of my displays to boot up to graphics card problem in my early 2008 Mac Pro with my stock ATI Radeon HD 2600 by swapping out the same card from my son's Mac Pro and seeing the displays boot up fine. Before heading off to the Apple store for a new card I reinstalled my suspect video card just to see what would happen. The displays booted up fine. Now, two weeks later, again no video display--black screens--no signal from the graphics card. I rebooted the computer several times to no avail and was, again, about to head off to the Apple store for a new card. This time "just to see what would happen" I moved the graphics card to another slot and bingo, the displays are up. What can be determined from my experience to date?
    1. The graphics card is flirting with death. Like a patient unwilling to die, through a mysterious force, it rallies to live another day.
    2. The slot the card came installed in is unreliable--it's dirty, there's a spec of dust in there, a contact has degraded after two years, or some other slot related fault. Note that, until the card failed for the first time, it had never been removed from it's slot, the computer was treated gently, and it operated in a very clean environment.
    If anyone has another theory about what may be happening here please feel free. I fully expect the displays to go dark again at some point as my suspicions are that it's the card itself that is the problem. The two replacement cards I'm considering are the ATI Radeon HD 4870 or the Nividia Geo Force GT120. I've read that both work with the early Mac Pros. Some complain that the ATI card is noisy and expensive. Based of Gaunja's post and others I think the Nividia card will suit my needs, be quieter, and cost less. But, for now, my stock ATI Radeon 2600 lives!
    Just one man's experience with the "Mac Pro display, black screen" problem.

  • Video Card Problem in Lion, probably overheating.

    Hey guys, I recently started having artifacts going around my screen, few kernel panics and many crashes, specially when running demanding video games. I have an nVidia 8800 GT and all my system is up to date. Tested the video card on a Windows PC and I got the same problems with video games.
    What I'm observing is that the fan of the video card isn't spinning as fast as it should, so the system crashes a couple of minutes later of executing a video game such Assassin's Creed 2 (very demanding) and much later if playing Slayer HD Pinball (not demanding), so I think this is an overheating problem, plus, the fan isn't working as it should do so I think there is no doubts of overheating.
    However, I would like to know if there is a way to force the fan of the video card spinning faster (or any solution for this problem). if so, please, let me know.
    Thanks!
    Ø3
    PS: I'm on Lion 10.7.2

    First up, you should blow air through the fan BACKWARDS. This will dislodge the buildup. Best if you use compressed air.
    Next, in WIndows you should instal EVGA Precision. This will allow you to alter fan speed.
    Easy enough to test your theory then, just crank fan speed to 100% and try playing a game tha usually gives you trouble.
    If it still crashes, your card is dying and needs a trip to the oven. (google)
    If upping the fan fixes the crashing, then you need to use Nibitor to mod the fan speed profile and reflash with the higher fan speed. (you actually mod the curve in terms of how it responds to various temps...do the test first before you worry about this)

  • Problem Playing Video in Premiere Pro CS4

    I am having a problem playing video in premiere pro. When I input any movie clip and try to play it in both the timeline and in the preview mode, the audio works fine but the video only plays a few seconds worth of footage at a really slow pace so that it takes up the entire time. For instance if I load a 3 minute video, the sound is normal but over the coarse of that 3 minutes I will only see a small number of the frames and they are cycled through in ultra slow motion.
    All the clips play normally outside of premiere. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program. I have premiere installed on my laptop and it works fine. I have tried rendering the video first and it still doesn't work. I have tried holding shift before the program is loading and it did nothing. I have downloaded all the updates too. Videos seem to play fine in After Effects.
    Also, I am having trouble when importing HD video into premiere and after effects. For some reason the programs freeze when I try to import footage from my Creative Vado HD pocket video camera.
    Here are my computer specs
    Windows Vista Ultimate 32 Bit
    Intel Core2 Quad q8200
    ATI Radeon 4670 Graphics Card
    Gigabyte Motherboard
    4GB of 800 Mhz RAM
    This is really frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Keith,
    The file extension .AVI indicate a "wrapper." All sorts of stuff can be in that wrapper *. Some of that stuff will play/edit fine. Much will not and create issues, as you have seen. Your camera uses a CODEC to create those .AVI files. That CODEC is the issue. I recommend G-Spot to find out what the CODEC is. Some times it's just a matter of having the proper CODEC installed on the computer. Most of the time, it takes much more than that - hence Eddie's links on "conversion." At least G-Spot will get us all on the same playing field, and explicit help can follow - probably to study Eddie's links. My guess is that your camera uses some form of DivX CODEC, hence the problem that you see.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
    * Think of .AVI like the foil wrapper on a stick of gum, when you remove the outer lable. You know it's gum, but not what flavor. Could be Juicyfruit, or Spearmint, or Double-mint. G-Spot will tell you the flavor. PrPro likes some flavors, but hates others.

  • Problem with Video capture Device

    i have a problem with FME. i am using Avermedia TV capture
    device and Canon 3ccd Digital Video Camcorder ( PAL ) when i open
    the FME interface the warning given for " Problem with Video
    Capture Device".
    i read all the topics in Flash Media Encoder Category, if
    this problem occures my capture device ( i expect MPEG ) how to
    solve this problem?
    Thanks,

    The Device Matrix is something we'll be updating in the
    future as we continue to test more and more equipement. Ideally, I
    would like for users such as yourselves to be able to add to it and
    tell us what has worked for you as well. If anyone has any ideas
    about what technology we should use to do this (e.g., this forum? a
    wiki?) please let me know.
    Regarding the devices not working - the main problem we see
    is that the system requirements are not being met. Here is what to
    check for:
    - are you running on Windows XP (only supported OS right
    now)?
    - do you have DirectX client runtime version 9c or higher
    installed?
    - do you have hardware acceleration enabled?
    - do you have 32bit graphics enabled?
    - do you have the latest direct show drivers from the
    card/device manufacturer?
    Thanks,

  • Problem with video garbage collection

    I have problem with a cummulative memory issue. I have developed an air application that reproduces video when it is needed. Although my air process (myAir.exe) uses the same ammount of memory for days (stable, illustrating lack of development memory leak problems) the total system memory increases every time a video is being reproduced. Every time the video is stopped the memory used by this video is released but not completely resulting to a continuously increasing system memory. Is this a graphics card problem, an OS graphics garbage collection problem or an air development problem! Has anyone ever had a similar problem? Every response would be helpful.
    Thank you in advance.

    Just a question ..??.. as a result of this dbconn getting freed before method ends , are you getting resultsetclosed error ?..

  • Redeeming iTunes Card Problem (not asking about the site being slow)

    Yesterday I went and somehow got into iTunes to redeem one of my cards. With the card (It was a 'collector's edition' one that my aunt got me) should have come with a music video and a little animated short.
    The $25 went through, and was credited to my account, but the two other features were not. Is there somewhere I have to go to redeem those? Or should they have come automatically?
    And is there any way of fixing it? I was actually looking forward to getting the music video...
    Also, I have another problem with videos, and if anyone saw that post, I still need help on that.

    Would someone please just try to explain to me what's going on? I didn't get an answer yesterday, and I'm on the verge of attempting to return my video iPod because my mini didn't cause near as many problems! It may be old, but at least I know most of the stuff about it!

  • Problems transferring video to pc on the 6790

    I am having problems transferring video from my phone to my laptop.  I downloaded the PC Suite and had no problems with my pics, but the video won't play once it transfers to my laptop.  Any ideas on what I need to do to get them to play?

    What program are you using to play the files on your computer?
    The procedure should actually be the same, connect via data transfer and drag and drop is the simplest for me.
    Do the videos play while they are still on your memory card by any chance
    Show your appreciation. Hit that kudos button real hard

    after a restart it works for a time, but always slow. I went to the Applestore this afternoon and the made a check and said it would be the logicboard and they would have to change it for CHF 600 and it would be ready in 10 - 15 days

  • Problem with video playback

    I just updated to 3.6.14 and after I did I'm now having problems viewing videos. The video plays, but in the right third of the screen there is a flashing block of red. Here's a screen cap of what it looks like:

    I tried viewing the same videos in Safari and didn't have a problem. Apple software is up to date as is Adobe Flash.
    Is there some way to fix this?

    This happened to me while I had numerous programs running as well as Itunes...are you running anything like, LimeWire, chatting programs, internet browser, or anything like that? Close em down
    Hope this helps

    I'm having problems uploading video taken with my iPhone 4 to Photobucket.  FB will not accept the file extension which is ex. IMG_423.  They will play on my computer and will upload to Facebook.  Why is the phone taking video with this file instead of something like .mov or mp4.  How can I change the extension after the fact and avoid it in the future?

    You said, "the 4 also has signal and wifi whereas the 5 has only wifi". By "signal", I'm assuing that you mean cellular signal. If so, that means your iPhone 4 is still active on your cellular number and your iPhone 5 is not. Contact your carrier to sort out which phone is active on your account.
