DVCAM capture choppy and out of sync

I'm capturing Sony DVCAM tapes using a Panasonic DVX camera & firewire 400 four-to-six pin cable into FCP using the DV NTSC 29.97 setting.
The tape plays fine in the camera, but the captured clips in the browser are choppy and way out of sync (and are that way when brought into a sequence, too).
There isn't a DVCAM setting that I can see for the capture, and DVCAM is just DV format anyway... or is it? Any tips? Do I need to use a Sony camera for the capture? Rrrrgh....

If the material is actually DVCAM media it will not play back in a Panasonic camera. You need a Sony device for playback. It's just DV but it's recorded differently, different head pitch with higher speed tape.

    AJA Kona LHe card
    DV capture is fine.
Tried to capture HD and audio has crackle and worse- way out of sync.
I checked settings again and again- I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. I tried the latest drivers and the previous versions.
I can't get this card to capture HD sync audio.
It's a 1080i signal component- audio is coming off a mixer.
This set-up works for DV capture and never fell out of sync with a Decklink- so I know it's correct.
any suggestions? Before I call AJA.

    NOpe. Call AJA.
I have the Kona LH and Kona 3 and have not experienced this issue.

  • Sound very choppy and out of sync on videos. Fine when playing music

Whenever I try to play a video on iTunes I must use quicktime instead because the Audio makes it so unbearable. It becomes choppy and delayed by a few seconds. It almost pulses.
My audio is fine when I try to play music and fine on quicktime.
    Anyone got any idea???
    Thanks

Did you ever get an answer on this?  I have the exact same problem.  Windows Vista, iTunes 10.5.3.3
Songs play great, videos are choppy and warble but they play fine on QuickTime.

  • Youtube downloads and playbacks are choppy and out of sync

This has been going on for about two months and I have tried everything including a trip to the Genius Bar.  What I found out at the Genius Bar is that when the new internal hard drive was installed in my iMac the repair people just transferred everything from my old disk to the new disk.  So, Lion was not properly "installed" and the Genius re-installed Lion so that I would have the extra disk space should I need to start up on the C drive for repairs.
It was not long after the  new disk installation that Safari stopped playing Youtube videos properly.  I uninstalled and reinstalled Java, but I still feel like the proper plug in is not installed to run videos.  I have no problems running youtube on Chrome or FireFox, so it is just a Safari problem.
How can I find out what is missing and where can I go to get the program to install?
    Thanks.

Hi there. I've been experiencing the same problem for some time now on several, but not all, youTube videos. Today I thought "Heck, I'll put youTube into HTML5 mode and see what happens." by visiting http://www.youtube.com/html5 (thinking perhaps it's Flash)
It turns out I probably WAS in HTML5 mode already, thus, there was no change. Instead I turned YouTube's HTML5 mode off (from the very same page.) And now the videos that were bringing down Safari and the CPU through QTKit Server play just fine.

  • Video runs slow on firefox and out of sync with audio with abode flash 12.

Ever since I installed adobe flash player 12 my videos run slow and out of sync with the audio it is like it pauses for a couple seconds and starts back working and keeps doing that.

    Hi jth10,
The troubleshooting steps provided by Adobe can be found here: [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_For_Windows_users]
    * Are there any settings in the Flash settings manager that changed when you updated? [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager03.html]
*These are the recommended settings for specific resolutions [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/poor-video-quality-flash-player.html]
You can also try to disable hardware acceleration in the Adobe settings menu.

  • Flash Player doesn't play smoothly and out of sync in full screen

    Hello! Everyone
The flash player (11.2.202.235) does not play smoothly and in full screen audio and vidoe is out of sync.  I didn't use to have any problem at all, it only started about two weeks ago and since then despite trying various things (i.e. disabling hardware excelration, uninstalling & reinstalling, trying various browsers etc.) has not resolved the issue.  I don't know why it has suddenly stopped playing smoothly as I have not installed any software recently which might have cuased this.
I am using Windows XP (service pack3) and have dual partion with dual operating system (both XP).  There is the same problem on both operarting system and flash player won't run smoothly on either of them.  Although my computer and graphics card is quite old but the downloaded movies/DVD playback is fine even in full screen.  It runs smoothly and audio&video is in sync so I don't think it could my the graphics card.
As I mentioned I have tried all the browsers but without any luck.  The BBC iplayer plays ok most of the time if not in full screen but as soon as you make it full screen the vidoe is more like a slide show and very jittery and audio&video gets out of sync.  Same with youtube vidoes, they play ok when not in full screen but the video in full screen does not play smoothly and audio&vidoes gets out of sync.  However the ITV player & Channel 4 content on 4OD does not even play smoothly when not in full screen and the video&audio is out of sync all the time.
It would be really helpful if anyone can suggest anything to resolve this issue as I have not been able to find anything on the internet to solve the problem and its driving me up the wall.  Although I have tried to include as much details as I could think of so please let me know if I have missed any details that could be crucial in order to identify the problem.
Thank you very much for reading this and taking the time to reply and your feedback.

Would you mind opening a new bug on this at bugbase.adobe.com?  Please include your dxdiag report, a specific URL and a link to this forum thread.
In the meantime, you might want to try our 11.3 beta or rollback to a previous version of the player to see if that resolves the problem.

  • PLEASE HELP - Panasonic DV captured, audio goes out of sync

I'm capturing an hour of DV from a Panasonic PV-GS500, using Capture Now. Initially the audio and video appear to be in sync, but when I view the latter portion of the hour, the audio and video are markedly out of sync. This has occurred with several different tapes. I don't recall if this happened with FCE 3.5; I'm using 4.0.1.
The recording was made with 16 bit audio. I chose Easy Setup with format DV/Panasonic DVCPRO, using DV-NTSC, and rate 29.97fps. My sequence is 48kHz.
    Any help would be appreciated!

I re-captured the same tape I had trouble with the first time, but this time I started at the beginning without any lead time and it worked without audio/video sync problems. So I think the source of the problem was that I was changing Easy Setup settings after making a new project/sequence, instead of creating a new project/sequence after selecting the Easy Setup settings I want.
I have 2 related additional questions. I hope someone will take a stab at answering these.
    Question ONE
I checked my Easy Setup settings again, and the format is shown as "custom." I'm sure I didn't select this intentionally; I selected DV-NTSC. Not sure if this "custom" setting is why things are working now. Any idea why this setting might have changed to "custom" automatically by FCE?
The "custom" settings are as follows:
Sequence Preset: DV NTSC 48 kHz
Capture Preset: DV NTSC 48 kHz
    Device Control Preset: FireWire NTSC
    Playback Output Video: None
    Playback Output Audio: FireWire DV
PTV Output Video: Same as Playback
PTV Output Audio: Same as Playback
If I change the format back to DV-NTSC, Playback Output Video changes to "Apple FireWire NTSC (720 x 480)." I'm not sure if this is relevant.
    Question TWO
Say I've imported all this DV, without audio/video sync problems, with certain Easy Setup Settings. What if I then switch to a different camera for which the capture format is different (say DV-NTSC 32kHz FireWire Basic). Will that create any problems? I ask because presumably my old Easy Setup settings (for my first camera) are still being used by the Project or Sequence. The second camera requires new Easy Setup settings, but these settings are not congruent with the Project or Sequence I'm working with.
Maybe another way to ask this question is this: Can I mix and match DV from different cameras without any problems, even though the Easy Setup settings are changed within the same project and sequence?
    Thanks again.

  • Dealing with dropped frames and out of sync audio

    Hi!
I'm using Final Cut Studio 3 and I'm trying to record some video from a pretty old MiniDV-camera. The problem is that a have some dropped frames and when I record the whole thing it gets out of sync.
By default Final Cut aborts the capture (without saving) when it finds dropped frames. That won't work for me. I start recording, it records a couple of minutes and then it just aborts without saving anything.
I tried to record the entire tape when using the option of not aborting on dropped frames. I recorded the entire video but not it gets more and more out of sync later and later in the video.
So, do you have any suggestions on how to deal with this? Maybe I can use an external application for this cause I haven't found a way to deal with this in Final cut.
    Best
    Felix

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Did you shoot in DV or HDV ?
Did you try to capture HDV with Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 (or 50 for europe)?
Does you downconvert HDV shooted to DV upon capturing from camcorder ?
DV-NTSC 48 kHz is the way to go with downconverted material.
Does your DV audio setting is 16 bit on FX1 ? (HDV is a fixed one).

  • Captured audio is out of sync

I captured a 12 minutes clip using Capture Now in FCE 3.5 from my PAL camcorder Canon MVX4i (=Optura 600).
This is the first time it happens to me: the captured clip has the audio portion out of sync with respect to the video by 5 frames. So, the audio is consistently 5/25 fps = 0.2 seconds late during the whole clip. Unfortunately, this is quite visible when people are speaking.
As a workaround I set the clip in the timeline, unlinked the audio, shifted the video portion forward by 5 frames, marked the clip in sync and relinked (BTW it took me a while to find out that 5 was the right value: lot of tests adding and subtracting a frame at the time, and listening ...)
I doubt the cause is the camera, so my question is: what is the cause of this out of sync ?
    Thanks
    Piero
    Some additional info.
I used the same setup I've been using so far: camera directly connected to the iMac, capture to an external firewire hard drive, use of Capture Now just because it's faster with short movies. Tha movie was shot with 16 bit audio. The shift is the same all along the clip.

    Hi Ian,
I'll check tonight once more, just to be sure. I doubt though, because being aware of the possible impact of the 32KHz, I am usually careful. But I also know that editing after 11 pm is not recommended to me... I might do silly mistakes...
In any case, I'm afraid there is a problem with the tape. Could a damaged tape causes out of sync during capture ?
    Thanks
    Piero

  • XMPSES file extension and Out of Sync issues

I captured a VHS tape to an AVI. If I watch this file using Windows Media player, the audio and video are in sync. I then imported the AVI into PE11 and created a video project. I selected the MPEG option for Computer under Publish+Share. I did not change any settings. The preset is NTSC DVD Standard. When the project was complete, I now have two files
    FILENAME.MPG
    FILENAME.MPG.XMPSES
Also, when I play the .MPG file using Windows Media player, the audio and video are out of sync. The audio is delayed by a couple seconds.
    I am using Windows 8.1
Does anyone know why PE11 creates the two files? Is this related to the sync issues?
    thanks,

    uberjaeger
That .xmpses is an informational file attributed to Adobe and described as a Premiere Elements DVD Marker File (has information about DVD marker project, chapters, titles and scenes). I can confirm its existance. I do not suspect that as the source of your out of sync audio in your Publish+Share/Computer/MPEG with NTSC DVD Standard export.
How did you capture the VHS tape to AVI and what type of AVI did put on the Premiere Elements 11 Timeline....DV AVI? If DV AVI, was it type 1 or type 2?
What were the properties of this import into Premiere Elements 11 - 720 x 480 4:3 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second or something else? What did you use for Add Media?
What was the project preset of this Premiere Elements 11 project? Did you set the project preset to NTSC DV Standard manually before the Add Media or did you let the program automatically set the project preset based on the first video drag to the project's Timeline? If the program took charge, what did it set? Please see Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio (even if grayed out).
If you take your Timeline directly to Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc, does the DVD-VIDEO standard on DVD disc play back with out of sync audio?
By the way, do you have the VLC Player and does your mpg play back with audio out of sync there?
Let us start here and then decide what next.
    Thank you.

  • A hiccup and out of sync

Well, I've captured my first two tapes. Had a bit of a problem with them, as they were out of sync at first, but after searching this forum, found that the problem was in the fact that the tapes were recorded in 12 bit, requiring me to capture them at 32 KHz. (if a camera is capable of 16 bit audio, isn't it better to record it at that?). I captured both tapes using the "clip" strategy, as the capture all gave me some problems. On one of the tapes, there is sort of a stutter in the video, and then the audio from that point on is out of sync. Now, I will figure something out, and I guess it will involve me separating the audio from the video, and adjusting the audio from that point onwards, but if anyone knows of any magic wand I can wave, or can see any pitfalls in my path, by all means chime in. Thanks in advance.

I've got a easy workaround. I was using two cameras, and I've placed them, synced, on two video tracks (and their accompanying audio tracks). If I just disable the audio on the camera with the stutter, this seems to solve everything. I didn't think it would-I thought the stutter would prevent me from syncing straight through even on the other camera audio track. But it seems to have worked.

  • Imported MJPEG from Game Capture Software Suddenly Out of Sync

First, I should point out that I am  new to Adobe products. I'm entirely self-taught with Premiere, and I know there are a lot of things that I don't fully understand yet. However, my methods were working fine until a couple weeks ago. Furthermore, I searched through the forums and couldn't find any issues quite like mine. A few were similar, but none helped with my issue. I'm sorry if there is something really simple that I'm overlooking here, but I would greatly appreciate any help.
For quite a few months I used PlayClaw 5 to capture video game content and then import it to Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 to edit it and piece together gaming compilations. It worked without a hitch until about two weeks ago when the audio in the imported file stopped syncing correctly with the video. I'm not doing anything different that I know of, although PlayClaw 5 did have a recent update. I'm not sure what information would be useful in a situation like this, but I can provide the following:
    My usual Premiere set-up:
    Capture format is HDV
Then I usually set my sequence presets to HDV 1080p30
From there, I have Premiere maximized and drag a video file from a folder to the project window. I wait until it indicates that the file has been imported completely, then I go about hacking the video and audio (which is usually mixed together from PlayClaw 5) and creating my own videos.
You can see in this video, the sound is synced perfectly - but a couple weeks later, I made this video, and the audio is off by just a bit, but it's noticable. Now all my imported videos have out-of-sync audio.
I can also provide the type of encoding that PlayClaw 5 uses for the videos:
Video Compression: MJPEG (quality at 95 with the option of YUV411 compression, was on for the second video link)
    Capture frame rate: 29.970
    Compression threads: 2
    Smooth frame flow enabled
    draw cursor enabled
    Convert to sterio enabled
Mix audio in one track enabled
    Container: AVI
Unfortunately, it doesn't give any other information about the audio.
Again, I'm sorry if this is just my lack of experience with video editing. Also, I apologize if this isn't a typical Premiere problem.
Thank you in advance for your time.
    Edit:
I realized that I never actually included a question...
Is there something I'm doing wrong to cause the audio to go out of sync all of a sudden? And is there an easy fix for this issue?

What Motion JPEG codec do you have installed to edit MJPEG?

  • Green pixels and out of sync movie on PAL

I put subtitles on an NTSC timeline and movie. I exported as NTSC. I went to Compressor and converted to PAL. The footage is out of sync and there are frames with green pixles and fill the whole screen.
I notice these green frames on the timeline and they were disappearing when ever I rendered the clip. They appear back on the PAL conversion, but not on the TSC export.
    Thanks for any info.

Did you ever get an answer on this?  I have the exact same problem.  Windows Vista, iTunes 10.5.3.3
Songs play great, videos are choppy and warble but they play fine on QuickTime.

  • Stuttering and Out of Sync Playback in Logic Pro X

I'm having a problem with my playback.
About 1 of every 4 times I play back audio, Logic experiences stuttering; portions glitch up and the output cuts in and out.
Then the project plays out of sync for a few seconds before the system recovers.
This is happening on very simple scratch projects with 4 tracks or less, and about once every 4 times I hit play (which is unacceptable in my mind).
It also happens during recording which is very frustrating.
All my drivers are up to date, I've used disk utility to clean my system and repair permissions, and I have a very fast and current computer.
My projects are on my internal drive, and set at 96khz 24-bit; but again, these are very simple tracks running off of a "blazing fast" PCIE solid-state drive.
I'm beginning to think this is a hardware problem, as I experience pops and clicks when I first play any audio on any app after the system has been idle.  The cut out effect also occurs with iTunes once in a blue moon.
    Thoughts?

What is Logic's I/O Buffer set at?
Not sure what you're using for an audio Interface but 96kHz is overkill. Unless you have a pristine listening room, many $$$ worth of monitor speakers and amplifier...  the best mics, instruments, yes in can make a difference with soft instruments + a lot of effects but even then. I hope you have a high end audio interface otherwise it's pointless and unnecessarily hard on your system. Also, recent versions of OSX do a lot of writing to the drive. What make is the solid state drive, there is a known issue with some recent Samsung drives.
Logic does better running loops/recording/playback from a separate drive although it normally should be able to handle a few tracks. Are you running any applications in the background? If so close them.

  • Audio goes in and out of sync when burned dvd played on standard DVD player

I made a short film recently (7:00 mins) and once completed and burned to DVD using iDVD and DVD Studio Pro about 20% of the clips have out of sync audio. Just slightly out of sync. Some more noticeable than others.
Playing off the timeline syncs perfect, the exported prores 422 mov file syncs perfectly, and if the finished DVD is played on my mac or my pc the sync is perfect, but when played on a standard dvd player to my TV I get the syncing problem, but only at certain points through the film. As I said, about 20% of it. The rest of the film is fine.
Shot on Canon 5d mkII - footage converted to prores 422 1920x1080. Audio recorded on Zoom H4N with some ADR recorded on logic pro. Audio synced manually using clapper board reference. Using a 27'iMac with current OSX update as of 14 March 2011. Edited in FCP 7, exported to proress 422, burned to DVD with current iDVD and DVD Studio Pro, all current versions and updates.
I have tried exporting to mpg4 and mpg2 - no joy. I checked audio bit rates and discovered the logic recorded stuff was 44.1khz as opposed to 48, so I converted to 48 but still no fix.
    I am STUMPPED
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers
    Dallas

Should I convert just the clips which are out of sync in the DVD, or all of theclips in the FCP timeline?
If that is the issue, wouldn't I have the problem in the final prores mov as opposed to just when its played dvd to tv?
Ill try it though. Its an odd problem so its likely to have an odd solution. Willing to try anything at this point.
    Thank you.
