DVCAM incompatibility? trying to capture...

I'm trying to capture footage from a Sony DCR-VX9000E which records on DVCAM format. I attach the camera via firewire and iMovie says the camera is not attached. I'm trying to connect to a cube, also tried on my g4 powerbook and it won't read it either. Is this possibly a problem between the DVCAM format and iMovie? too complex/too simplistic?? Is it even possible to import footage from this format onto iMOvie? I'm at my wits end. I'm in the Czech Republic. Could it be a region dispute between the Camera (european) and apple? ANY INSIGHT would be amazing.

could i hook up the DCR-VX9000E to my canon x90???
that should work, as long as your canon has a analog.in, and the vx has a anlog-out (.... silly, it has, for sure ).... I hope you get the right cables....
you could give it a try, and do that "live" meaning, using the canon as a "converter" for iMovie.. but lately we got lots of reports, that this "workaround" doesn't work anymore... give it a try: connect everything, caon via firewire to Mac and try an import.. if not, record on tape first, THEN import....
besides to your other question: no, video standards NTSC/PAL are both handled by Mac/iM.........

FCP does not seem to see the camera while it is in vcr mode and hooked up through firewire.
I think I have FCP fully updated but don't see the options for hdv to capture. Need help with proper capture settings and any updates in codecs or software I may need.

Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.

after material is imported and edited.

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After uninstalling Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.

The problem was the external backup hard drive that is connected, you need to disconect the external drive before the mac can see the video camera.

  • HELP! Audio Drops Out When Trying to Capture Canon XL2 Footage

Please help me out here. I'm a freelance camera operator w/ a Canon XL2 and several times now I've gotten calls from the editors saying they're having problems logging my footage, mainly the audio drops out quite a bit, and I'm not talking bout one second for every 2 or 3 minutes. No. It's like every 10 seconds the audio drops in and out.
What's the deal? Two times the guy was using a Panasonic DVX-100A to capture, another time it was a SONY DSR mini-DV deck. With each incident I had to go over with my XL2 and use it as the capture device, which is a pain.
The program they're using is FCP HD or 5. But I think even when they just play the tape in their Sony or Pany cameras, the audio may still suck.
Help me out here, I can't be the only one with this problem.
    Thanks.
    -R

Well Robert Swanson, I hope my post wasn't taken offensively, it certainly wasn't meant as such. The only Canon camcorder I owned was the GL1. After switching to Sony's I can honestly say it would take something significant to go back. And, I was merely relating my experiences in trying to capture from other Canon camcorders so that I know where you are coming from. However, I am interested in the HVX being the "noisest" camera on the market. I am seriously considering this camera and would be interested in a review that points this out. I would be using the hard drive recorder instead of P2 cards.

  • Out of sync audio when trying to capture from digital 8 camera to quicktime, please help

    Just trying to capture hi 8 tapes using a sony digital 8 dcr-trv355e pal into quicktime;
great clear video but  audio becomes out of sync like a bad kungfu movie,
contacted apple they tried to help, but they dont really understand issue
    there are lots of people out there that are trying to digitise old analog video;
    I have fcpx and imovie they both play the old video via  the digital 8 camera but cannot capture;
that is why using quicktime; thanks!!

Yes i think its something to do ith the fact its a wmv file, when i use mpeg footage it exports fine.
basically, no matter how long the video, the video is out of sync...its weird
i've decided the best thing to do is leave quicktime and export using windows media instead, that seems to give me a better looking picture witha small file size anyway
    thanks for your help though!

  • Trying to capture HDV with a Canon HV30    CS4

I am new to this HD video.Im trying to capture to PPRO cs4 and not sure what settings to use. When I first start out I have my new project set to HDV after that it takes me to new sequence panel there I have selected the preset HDV 1080p30 (Im hoping this is correct) after this I go to the capture panel there I select where to put the video and I also select HDV.When I try to capture the video does not show on the PPRO preview screen but it does capture the video and run the camera from there. The camera is set to HDV output and while its capturing it shows a fire wire symbol on the camera screen and says something like HDV out
Just like to know if Im doing everything correct.'
    Thanks for your time

Had you read the manual or help file on capturing HDV, you would have seen that there is no preview during capture with HDV material. I suggest you read the manual from front to cover to get acquainted with this program and watch tutorials. It will make your editing experience much nicer.

  • I am trying to capture from Sony HDV 1080i VTR FCP giving an error of not able to initialize

i am trying to capture from Sony HDV 1080i VTR FCP giving an error of not able to initialize. I am not able to capture the content in DV mode. i am using a Firewire 800 to 400 converter and a 6 pin firewire cable to connect to the SonyHDV VTR. Please suggest me how do i do this.

The 800-400 converter plugs have proved a problem for this. What version of the software are you using. It sounds like an older version of FCP, if so you should ask your question on the Final Cut Studio forum.

  • "no data from device" when trying to capture HDV

I need to capture additional footage for an HDV project I am already editing. Capturing the initial footage (about a month ago) went smoothly. Now however, when trying to capture footage from a new tape shot just last week, I simply cannot. If I try to Capture Now, I get a "No Data from Device" message and the capture attempt aborts. If I log some clips and Batch Capture, the material cues and begins to play but the capture window just continues to say CUEING SOURCE MATERIAL and captures nothing. I am using the Sony HVR-M10U deck as a capture device.
The only thing that has changed between the original capture and this latest attempt is that I have also been working on a DV project at the same time, and I used the M10U to capture some DV footage for that project. In order to succesfully capture DV footage I had to force the deck to play only DV (by changing the VCR settings in the menu).
To try and capture this latest HDV footage, I went back into the menu and forced the deck to play HDV only. In searching for answers I came across this Apple article (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302407) and followed those exact steps.
However, nothing seems to work. I do have device control and the timecode is being read off the deck in Log & Capture (so the firewire connection is fine), but there's no video in the preview window and no capturing is possible. I am able to open my DV project, reset the menu on the deck, and capture DV footage - but I can't for the life of me switch to capturing HDV footage.
Any bright ideas would be much appreciated - I'm really at wits end.
    thanks,
    Tom

I am having a similar problem with my sony HVRZ1U, I can capture dv through firewire no problem but when I choose easy setup for HDV it does not recognize the device.
Funny thing is I tried to download clips on a pc in Premiere with all the similar settings on my camera and it works fine, I have deck control and can capture HDV footage, so that rules out a problem with the camera. Back to FCP5 with the same settings and nothing.
Went through uninstalling quicktime 7.03 back to 7.01 - nothing
Deleted the preferences in FCP5 - nothing
Checked the firewire connections and cables - they work fine
Using all the right settings on the camera and in FCP5
The tape format was shot correctly
Any light on what could be going wrong would be very very much appreciated

  • Error message when trying to capture video

I am trying to capture video into FCE using a Sony MiniDV camera, the same one the footage was shot on, with a firewire connection. Every time i try to capture the footage, either using Capture CLip or Capture Now, it stops after about 10 seconds and gives me an error message that says there is a problem with my footage. I can play the footage back fine on my camera and there is no break in timecode. When i capture other footage shot on a different camera, using my Sony camera to capture, it works fine.
I bought a minDV head cleaning tape and ran it, it didn't help. Is it possible the settings on my FCE are wrong for the particular way i shot this footage? It was shot at SP. Or could it be a problem with my camera that made the footage damaged when i shot it?
    Please help!

Most probably a tape problem on the original recording.
You know this information, and you know you've been doing it for years. We don't know that. We're trying to help you, and we can't see your system, what you're doing, or what you know. We have to guess, one step at a time. From what I can glean from the message, I can't see it being anything but a recording problem on the tape, or a recording problem in relation to the playback device, but those are pretty rare occurrences for cameras and decks that are properly maintained.

  • Major problems with dropped frames while trying to capture

Are there any settings where you can change the sensitivity of FCP HD or any settings that I am not aware of?
Trying to capture from DigiBeta through a Sony J30 SDI, the whole thing wount go for a minute without intruption and dropped frames.
I have tryed several tapes and finally I tried to copy through FireWire on to MiniDV on my XL1on a new unused DV-tape and then from there on capture into FCP but the problem remains.
I have had some minor problems with this earlier but never as severe.
I am capturing onto a Lacie BigDisc hooked up through Firewire 800 and there ia 170 GB free so thet should not be a problem.

    Andreas,
The J30 specs state "All standard definition, half-inch Betacam format tapes, dating back some twenty years, can now easily be converted to a 25 Mbps DV signal and transferred to a compatible DV device via a single digital interface cable.", but you say you've tried that, and from the specs I'm assuming you'd need some conversion from the deck to go straight into FCP...like a Canopus or like you did dropping to DV tape.
Have you tried a different FW port and/or cable?
Other posts have mentioned changes of FW cables or ports as a solution, so I'm inclined to agree with David that you may require a FW800 card...we purchased one, when we bought our Big Disk Extreme. However, I don't capture to it, only archives and storage.
Are you trying to capture internally to your system drive? (I'd guess not, as I've read some of your posts and would be surprised if you were)
Any recent upgrades/updates or other changes in your config?

  • Spinning Beach Ball When Trying To Capture

  • WDS 2012 Black Screen when trying to capture image

I'm currently having an issue trying to capture windows 8.1 Enterprise image using Server 2012 R2 + WDS for deployment.
All the usual steps have been followed, images added from the install media used to set up the initial machine, DHCP configured and PXEBoot works fine for the deployment image (it loads, I get an ip, can access reminst share) but when I boot in the capture
image I get nothing but a black/blank screen.
Initially when I booted in to the capture image I was receiving an 0xC000000F error but by adding the network driver to the capture image it resolved that issue and it gives the blue windows logo and starts loading but then goes black. I've subsequently
tried to add all available drives for this machine from the HP site but made no difference.
WDS server is a hyper-v VM and the box to be capture is physical, both on the same vlan.
    Any one experienced this?

I did not find any help with this. I was able to get a native boot.wim and install.wim to work from the installation media (with driver injection - which I must say is way easier in W2K12). However the capture did not and will not work. VERY frustrating!
I wound up doing a WDS basic OS install then I had to manually touch 24 boxes to install the rest of the software (still not quite done after three solid days of work).
Also, I should point out: I am targeting Dell Optiplex 790s. I'm using the PE 5.0 drivers which work fine. i also downloaded the Dell Optiplex 790 driver set and injected those as well, even though they are targeted for Win 7, not Win 8.1.
Interestingly, if I updated the old system bios (A05) to the new (A18) the machine couldn't even contact the WDS server. It was working before at A05 and then completely stopped at A18, requiring me to do a complete full install from installation media.
Way to go Dell! This is why people are switching to Lenovo.
    Best,
    Bill

  • Trying to Capture Causes Shutdown of FCP

After working fine for years (and not upgrading to a newer version of FCP), FCP quits unexpectedly merely upon clicking the capture command. Any advice? Do I need to spend 700 bucks on an upgrade just so I can capture video? Thanks for feedback.

No, I have not updated Quicktime for quite some time. I'll try that. Thanks.
I'm not sure what version of FC I have (I'm travelling and don't recall) but it's several years old.
FCP quits unexpectedly irrespective of the type of video I'm trying to capture. Most recently, I've been trying to capture HD video from my Sony camcorder via Firewire. In fact, FC quits even if a device isn't connected upon clicking the capture command.
I can also capture videos without any problem on iMovie.
Could upgrading my OS to Leopard be part of the problem?
As you can tell, I'm just a hobbyist so my understanding is limited.
    Thanks in advance.

I installed OS X Mavericks and now my Epson Scanner Perfection Series V330 Photo refuses to open. Is there a new driver available? I am scanning my work for a book publication and I need my scanner urgently. I tried Image capture but scanner is not detected.

Looks like all Epson scanners will fail under Mvrx. And who knows when an updated driver will be available. It's not as if they have had a while to do it already.
After I noticed mine wouldn't work, I deleted my Workforce 610 and re-added it by pressing the + and instead of going for the IP versions that may pop up, that they say to do under normal conditions, select the Bonjour version. When you select the new printer/scanner in the Printers & Scanners Control Panel, then open the control window and then look in the dock and see if your printer is there. Right click on it and go to "Keep in Dock" for easy Access. In the printer panel there should be a little picture of a scanner on the right side. Click on it or type Commmand-3 and the built-in scanner software/utility will come up. After playing with it I think it's better than and there are some cool features that are not in the stock Epson software.
    Hope this helps.
