DVCPro HD 720 25p

Hi,
I'm just sitting down to edit a short film and noticed that all the clips have come in at 50fps despite the DOP telling me they were shot at 25fps.
They seem to play fine in an FCP project with a sequence set to 25fps, so what's the deal? Is every other frame redundant? If I drop the clips into After Effects they timeline automatically defaults to 50fps.
I never transferred the clips and haven't seen this before, any advice?

Oh and yes it's playing back fine. In quicktime however it says it playing at about 37 fps even though it's coming off of a RAID with tons of bandwidth (can get 10 streams of HD no problem)
What's the downside if I just do a huge re-render down to 25fps on all the clips? (about 750 of them!)

  • Transfering ps cards hd 720 25p into finalcut

Im importing From p2 card DVCPRO HD 720 25p into final cut pro through log and capture. but when you play back the quick time movie or view the footate in the browser the image stobres and flickers and goes out of sink with voice.
what size processor is needed to play this format?
    any clues??
    cheers

    Hi,
    welcome to the forum.
You DON'T log and capture DVCPRO HD from P2 cards but use Log&Transfer to ingest P2 content.
    Log&transfer is right below Log&Capture.
If you are using an earlier version of FCP like 5.1.4 then go to file>import>Panasonic P2 but I am pretty sure that support for DVCPRO HD 720 25p only came with FCP6.
    best,

  • Varicam footage shot at 720/25p

We are working on a 3 hour minseries. About 2/3rd of the footage is original Panasonic varicam shot at 720/25p. The other third will be stock and stills from a variety of NTSC and PAL sources (it's an historical project). I need to end up with a primary PAL version and also a secondary NTSC version. Because I anticipate a lot of rendering to match formats, I'd like to create an offline version with as small files as possible and then conform to an HD PAL format on our fcp.
No one seems exactly sure about the best way to do this. We've been advised to log and capture at DV quality on the fcp. We anticipate a PAL broadcast, so we've been advised to do the offline at DV/50 instead of DV/25. (PAl tv being 50hz.) I'm assuming we can do this from a Panasonic 1200A deck with a direct firewire connection
Then, we've been told, conform the edl at 1080/50i (instead of at 720/25p because most tv stations prefer a 1080 master. This way we would control the upconvert ourselves rather than let someone else do it.
Because this is a large project with many tapes, we'd like to get started in the right way.
Does our plan make sense? What am I not thinking about?
I would love to hear from someone who has actually done this!
    Thanks, Chrisk1

You seem to keep asking the same question over and over, but moving the goal posts.
If you would state the facts (about your footage and FCP application) it would save a lot of time and frustration. The pople who anwer questions here are not Apple employees, they are video editors, doing it in their own time, and for no money.
When you CAPTURE the footage from the camera, the FCP settings should be EXACTLY the same as the footage you are capturing from the camera. This way, there is no compression - the compression was done in the camera. You want to avoid further compression if you can.
When you drop the footage onto a timeline, the timeline settings should be exactly as the footage was shot in-camera.
When you then move the project to FCP X, you use the 7toX application to convert the Final Cut Pro PROJECT for use in FCP X.
You do NOT convert the actual media files (in any way) they will be referenced by FCP X in the same way that FCP6 did. 7toX can be used for FCP 6 projects but there may be issues if you have any speed changes:
Only when you output your final movie, should you consider conversion - and if you have grainy night-time stuff, conversion is best avoided if possible.
Certainly avoid (what you repeatedly say you are doing) going from 1080i (interlaced) to 1080p (progressive).

  • Can't dvcpro HD 720 to HDCam tape (1080) no video only audio

    Hello,
So I'm attempting to try something and I'm not quite sure if it's possible. The program was shot and edited in a dvcpro HD 720 23.98 sequence. The delivery specs call for 1920 X 1080 59.94 (29.97 interlaced)
I'm exporting using the 23.98 > 29.97 conversion settings and using a blackmagic card and a sony hdw f-500 deck (going in via HD SDI). I get audio just fine but no video.
    What am I doing wrong?

    What Jerry said.
Before this option was available in the Kona 3, I just dropped my 720p24 footage into an uncompressed HD 1080i29.97 sequence and rendered...and it looked OK. But Compressors Advanced Conversion option will do a better job.
Still, the Kona 3 does this all on the fly. I was THIS CLOSE to getting a decklink for this latest gig, but then the cross conversion need was too great. OH, actually it was the upconverting SD footage to 720p DVCPRO HD that was the big need. The Kona 3 does that, the decklink does not. It only upconverts SD to 1080i.
Different cards for different needs. If you knew your workflow and needs I'm sure the Melrose guys would have told you to get the Kona. I HOPE they would know enough to do that.

  • HVX 720 25p support - NAB is over

I am a European HVX200 user. When can I cut finally my 720 25p material? Before 3 years I am switched too mac, must I now really switch back to the PC?
    http://www.ag-hvx200.de

I know you are in Europe and all, but is there any reason you cannot shot 720p24 24PN? That is the frame rate of film, and this way you can get started and edit.
Or you can shoot 720p24 at 59.94 and convert to PAL later when there is support. I have seen some shows transferred from here to the UK and from the UK to here and they all look good.
I know it is a workaround, but at least you can get started. Apple is tight lipped about release dates for anything.
Dunno about raylight. Other than 720p25 what else does it offer?

  • Importing 720/25p from P2

Does anybody know if there is already a solution for importing 720/25p IN FCP.
    thanks
    G5 and powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.1)   owner dvx100 and hvx200

    OK...UPDATE.
Try this. I have been told (but do not have 720p25 footage to test this with) that if you take the 720p24 Easy Setup, duplicate it and change the framerates to 25, then it will work fine. This answer is so easy and obvious that for some reason I overlooked it.
Please try it and report back. I'd love to know so that I can post it everywhere.

  • Dvcpro hd 1080/25p

    dear colleges,
i bought a panasonic HVX200. i thought that FCP6.2 would have the dvcprohd 1080 25p codec, but it is not there (at least i cannot find it). i intend to blow up my footage to 35mm and therefore i need the 25p codec. How to go ahead with this?
    filmstad producties

HI Gerard, yep its there.I have recently bought a HVX-200 and imported my first 1080/25P. It's not on the EASY SETUP.
Simply adjust the setting's (cmd+0) of your new SEQUENCE to your 25P, 1080 and your away before dropping the 1080/25P into the sequence.
    should be fine.

  • What is best compression for DVCPRO HD 720 p60 960X720?

    Hello,
I would like to make a DVD of a project that was captured in the above format (Sequence settings the same). Since I can't use a self-contained Quicktime to make a DVD in DVD Studio Pro (doesn't support HD formats), I need to make a standard def Quicktime Using Quicktime Conversion. Not sure what settings to use? DVCPRO 50 - NTSC looks terrible. H.264 is okay. Any ideas? Specific settings & aspect ratio would be much appreciated.
    Thank you kindly,
    DanFalc

    DanFalc,
Now would be a very good time to open up the DVD Studio Pro and start reading on the structure and formats of DVDs. The DVDSP manual is very well written and will go a long way in explaining the process necessary to generate a disk.
In simple terms - export current settings/self contained then open Compressor and generate a m2v & ac3 file using the appropriate DVD settings for the length of your material.
Import those into DVDSP and have fun.
    Good luck,
    x

  • Monitoring 720 25p

    Hi
I have an SD Sony monitor and am trying to monitor hdv 720p 25. Nearing exasperation!
Apparantly none of the cards for the Mac actually handle 720p 25 hdv and down convert to sd for monitoring.
I have tried using a cable splitter and to come out of the dvi port and convert to s video but just get lines - no picture.
Firewire wont handle hdv through a camera deck either.
Can anyone help am I missing something?
    Thanks
    Trevor

FCP 5.1.2, the most current version, supports 25p HDV.
All high def capture cards support this format: Decklink Extreme HD, AJA Kona LH (Kona 3 with converter box), Matrox MXO (MXO is output only).

  • 720 25p video ?

Can you change the frame rate from 29.97 to 25 ?

I am talking about video standard here. US has NTSC (525 lines, 29.97 fps) and Europe PAL (625, 25 fps). With HD it gets better (both have 1080 and 720 lines) but each continent sticks with its own voltage (50 and 60 Hz), hence the 29.97 vs 25 issue.
To put it another way, every HD camcorder you buy in Europe makes 25 fps, not 29.97 fps. So if you live there and want to make a video with your iPhone, right now sticking with 29.97 is your only option, which does not make a lot of sense because you would not be able to use that footage with anything that comes out of a camcorder.

  • Petition for Pal user, we need 720 / 25p now!!!

This is a petition to Apple to let us know when we can expect support for HDV1 (JVC's 720p version) and DVCPRO 720p at 25 or 50 fps. Apple - a lot of us in Europe have businesses based around your products and we also have clients that need post solutions NOW.
Please pal user, send some mails to apple, we need it NOW!!

  • Strange playback - dvcpro hd 720/30p

    shot with hvx-200
    captured onto 16gb p2
i have both shot, captured, and log and transferred footage with this camera before today - never had this issue
footage plays fine in log and transfer window - when ingested, video plays back as seemingly slo-mo in viewer/canvas windows, with audio being correct sounding but truncated.
i've read where there is a firmware issue, but nothing has changed since the last time i did the very same process with no errors.
    any help appreciated!
    jarrod

yes - it all matches - no rendering needed or the popup question
and the reference to scene 5 was bc the default scene 6 setting is 24pa i believe...
it's ok - we used another video i made instead. thanks for the questions though...

  • DVCPRO HD 1080i/25p

I have just done a shoot with a Panasonic HVX200 on P2 using the 1080i/25 setting. I am also using Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 (can't upgrade as that is the version installed on the college computers). I can ingest the footage using the DVCPROHD 1080/50i codec but the footage comes in full picture without the black enveloped bars top and bottom. What does happen in that the picture has black bars on the left and right side of the frame. Is there a way to ingest (Import) the footage and get an anamorphic (16.9) frame with black bars top and bottom (I did it once but can't remember how)?
    Any help appreciated

That was the first version of FCP to support P2 imported footage, and it had issues. If you really need to work with this footage, you really need to upgrade. Or you really need to get THEM to upgrade.
There is no way to control the import...it comes in as is. But making FCP do the proper sequence settings is the issue, and PAL support for P2 was VERY lacking in version 5.0.4.

  • DVCPRO HD 720 timeline - problem with text tool

I'm working on a long project, and now when I make new text, the text is created in Square Pixel instead of HD 960x720. As a result, they need to be rendered. This was not a problem earlier, so something has changed. How do I make FCP create new titles using the pixel correct aspect?

OK, to make this more confusing, and went to an earlier place in the timeline, found a problem-free title, laid it into the SAME TIMELINE at a later location, and it still wants to render.

  • DVCPRO HD 720p25

    Hi!
At the moment I'm writing my diploma thesis about the different HD-formats. For this I have to compare for example 720p50 to 1080i50 (nothing really new, I know)... Anyway, also I'd like to work with DVCPRO HD 720/25p and DVCPRO HD 720/25pn, recorded by Panasonic HVX200 and HPX500. We have FCP6 and FCP7, but neither of them can work with this format. Both convert it to 720p50, even though that isn't what I want. This is why I'm asking for help, since I haven't found a real answer in the internet.... Hope anyone can help me, I'd be so glad.
So my final question is: is there any way in FCP to work with DVCPRO HD 720p25 (pn isn't that important)?
    Thanks in advance!
    bye Anke

We have FCP6 and FCP7, but neither of them can work with this format.
Look in the Easy Setup and select DVC PRO HD 720p25. It is most certainly there.
Then go to Sequence > Settings > Load Sequence Preset.
