Dvcpro hd frame rate convertor

i shot 720p at 60fps but it plays normal in my sequence and i can't convert it to slow motion in my timeline using dvcpro hd frame rate convertor. the option isn't greyed out but does nothing when is select it. am i doing something wrong?

My timeline is ALSO 720p24 with most of my footage at 23.98. I have footage shot 60p that I can either cut in and render so that it matches the 24p look, OR I can use the DVCPRO HD frame rate converter and slow it down 2.5 times to make excellent slow motion.
It works. BUT...as I was saying, there is a bug in which for some reason it might NOT work in the current project you have. JUST THE CONVERSION. What I do is make a new project, drag the file to convert into that...convert it, drag it back and use it. Then all is well.

  • DVCPRO HD Frame rate converter not working

    Hello all
I cant seem to get my frame rate converter to work. I shot the footage on my hvx200 at 720p30 and then put it in film mode and changed the frame rate to 60. Then I log and transfered it into FCP and when i go to convert it i keep getting the same message.

does anyone know why? I have gotten some footage to convert before with no problems.
    Thanks

All worked well last time I did this (late March), but upgraded to Leopard since then and brought all FCStudio apps up to date at the same time.
Looks like on import (log/transfer in FCP from Firestore) somehow the files are being flagged as having 'temporal compression', which can't be true if they're DVCPRO-HD, can it? Anyway the 'temporal compression' seems to be blocking the conform in CT, as well as the DFCPRO FRC in FCP.
So I tried importing the files from the Firestore thru an older version of FCP (5.1.4) that I have on my PowerBook (the problems described above are on my Mac Pro). I then copied these files out of the capture folder over to the Mac Pro, and sure enough: no problems with 'temporal compression'. The files were all marked as "maximum quality" and were allowed to be conformed from 60 to 24 in CTools, and have dupl frames removed using the FRC as needed.
So something appears to be broken with FCP 6.0.3 and how it imported this particular set of files on the Firestore.
I should note that if I hadn't tried to conform or FRC these files, I might never have noticed that there was a problem - they behaved as normal 720/60 files when just viewing them.

  • DVCPro HD frame rate issues

I'm sure that this question has been asked before, but I performed a couple searches and couldn't find a thread to perfectly answer it.
I have a tape that was shot (with the Pansasonic HDX900, shot to tape and not P2) at two formats, 720/24P and 720/60P. Most of the tape was shot at 24P, but the cameraman shot a few minutes shot at 60P to create slow motion. Both 24P and 60P are on the same tape. I am capturing directly from the camera, not from a deck. I have a couple issues:
1.) My device control through FCP does not seem to be working, so I can only capture with "capture now." My device control setting seems to be right (DVCPro Firewire), and I've tried to restarting FCP and the camera. It doesn't seem like this is a trash-the-prefs issue, so does anyone have any thoughts? I have driven the camera's deck through FCP before.
2.) What is the best way to work with the different frame rates? Right now it captures at 60P no matter which capture setting I have it set at (when shot at 24P it duplicates frames to make it 60P). Is this a result of mixing formats on the same tape?
    I'm a little lost, thanks.
    Stef

It doesn't have that function and after consulting the manual (again) I am beginning to believe that playback control is only possible internally to the camera, rather than externally from another device. It doesn't explicitly state this, but the manual DOES specifically mention the record start/stop functions but has no mention of playback start and stop.
That said, the larger issue at the moment and for the future is the frame rate issue.

Any chance there is a way to Batch Process files with the Frame Rate Converter??
Please Apple Give us batch processing with frame rate converter.. It is a total time waste to have to convert 10s or even 100s of files one at a time..

  • Frame Rate Convertor results in choppy footage

I have some 60fps footage shot on the HVX200 at 720p/24pN that I wanted to use in slow mo, buuuut, after importing it into FCP 5.1.4 using the DVCProHD 720p/24 easy setup (without removing the advanced pulldown and duplicate frames) I get very choppy footage aftern running the FRC. I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. Someone please help!!!!!!
    Thanks
    K

OK, just did something to make me feel like a complete idiot. I decided to follow my own advice and RTFM for the Cam. It seems that on the HVX 200 you have to make sure that two settings are correct for VFM recording. First, set cam to 720/24pN or 30pN and THEN, goto the Scene File and set the Frame Rate there to whatever you desire.
I had skipped this last step and just the recording format to 720/60p. That will not work and now I know this.
I can't wait to test this the correct way and see what I get.
    Thanks for all the help.

  • DVCPRO HD Frame Rate Conversion  add noise

We have shot some footage (DVCPRO HD 720p 59:94) converted just fine for SloMo. Though noticed it adds more noise. The noise flickers and rotates. Anybody else have this problem. We think it might be a problem in post(in conversion) In production we used the varicam shooting at 60fps using pro 35mm adapter and using a swing and tilt lens. I believe the noise is coming from the adapter but not sure.
    PLEASE HELP!

Sorry, but I do this a lot and I can't say that I have seen this issue.
What version of QT are you running? What OS?
Since all FCP is doing is transferring frame for frame making 60 frames into 24...data copying with no recompression, I don't see how the lens could be the issue. Step thru the 60fps frame by frame, then the same frames on the 24p footage...see if the distortion is the same. with the 60fps it goes by so fast you might not be seeing it.

  • Converting DVCPro HD frame rates

    Hello again mon saviors,
I have DVCPro HD 1080i60 files shot from an HVX-200.
How do i convert them to 720 24p?
Can I do it in Final Cut with the compressor settings on export or do I need a Kona or Decklink HD?
    Thank you again - misha

I did the same and I just opened a timeline, dropped in the first clip and clicked "yes" when asked if it wanted me to change my timeline settings to match that of the clip. I've been able to work my project on my MBP without rendering everything every time I change something. The downside to this is that I seem to have had trouble importing photoshop files for video as it only exports to 23.98fps which seems to have a weird effect on the dimensions of the photo.
To get around that, I found that I could set it up with HDV 720p25, import it into FCP, keyframe as required, then export to a DVCPro HD 720p60 movie using export to quicktime movie and it works great.
Now, I've probably done this all wrong as I'm the furthest from and expert and this was just trial and error, but it's worked for me so far. There'll be people on this board who'll probably give you much better help.
    Good luck,
    Lawrence

  • Change h.264 frame rate

Hey, my 2nd question of the day.
Got some brand new HD MOVs that are 1920 x 1080, 23.98, h.264 compressor. They seem to play fine in Final Cut. I have other clips that are 1280 x 720, 59.94, h.264 compressor. These 720 clips were shot in slow motion but are not playing in slow motion in Final Cut. I tried to use DVCPro HD Frame Rate Converter but obviously didn't work. Any other way I can convert the 59 frame rate to play in slow motion?

Use Cinema Tools and CONFORM. But, get out of the H.264 codec first. H.264 is not an editing codec.

  • FCP ERROR when trying to convert variable frame rate Panasonic P2

Ok, yesterday I was able to convert variable frame rate footage so it rendered out nice slo mo's via DVCPRO HD Frame rate converter in FCP 6.0.4, it worked perfect. I tried it multiple times - So I know it can be done... Today however I created the same "easy setup" in FCP I used yesterday, and it wont work?
it comes up with the error:
"An error occurred during processing, unable to conform source media FCP" is there some setting that by default switches"
has anyone heard of this happening? it seems like a program error... but I could be wrong... I haven't been able to figure it out on my own.
    does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Lance,
Sounds like you have done a very thorough job of tracking down your problem and a temporary solution. Just one question. Is the footage from the HDX-900 that you say...
    Lance Moody wrote:

flagged in camera as being 24fps or are you just trying to convert it after the fact?

  • Panasonic Frame Rate Converter available apart from FCP 6?

The FCP 6 New Features pdf reads:
"The DVCPRO HD Frame Rate Converter is now installed with Final Cut Pro. Both 720p60 and 720p50 footage can now be converted."
Is this still a plugin, and is it available somewhere for older versions of FCP? The download on the Panasonic site is still the older version that doesn't handle 50fps.

My thought is that it is available only as part of the FCP6 package and works internally with that.
If you are asking if it is available for earlier versions, the answer in all probability is no.

  • DVCProHD frame rate converter strips out audio?

    Hi,
We are doing a capture of DVCProHD material from DVCProHD tape. They are all coming in as DVCProHD 59.94 with 23.98 flag. Unfortunately when we captured, we captured everything as DVCProHD 59.94 with no pull down.
We are hoping to remove the duplicate frames after the fact, and tried using the DVCProHD frame rate converter tool in FCP. However, upon reading and re-writing the file, we find that FCP strips out all the audio of the original file.
I am wondering if there is a way to remove the duplicated frames and at the same time maintain the audio tracks on the new 23.98 file.
    Thanks!
    Michael
    <Edited by Moderator>

make a copy of your captured media and "conform" it in cinema tools. this will keep the audio but is destructive to the file thus you'll want to work from a copy in case you mess up. the frame rate convertor used to be used for variable speeds ie 48 over 24 for half speed thus thee audio would never sync and thus the FRC doe not process audio

  • FCP XML to Premiere Different Frame Rate

    Hello,
I have imported an FCP 7 XML into Premiere 5.04. When my sequence was in FCP it was at a frame rate of 23.976 at 720P. When it came into Premiere, though, it had changed to 59.94 fps at 720P.
I wonder how this has happened and if there is any way to change it back to 23.976 fps? Or should I just leave it as is?
I tried copying all of the clips within the 59.94 fps sequence into a new sequence that was 23.976, but this resulted in partial frame gaps (like a quarter of a frame missing). Sometimes you wouldn't even notice this during playback, but other times you do. So I assume this is not the best way to change it back to 23.976.
    Thank you.

  • Wav sound and frame rate problem

I have a wav file sound that I'm using within a movie clip in
the movie clip's timeline. When I test the movie from within Flash
(command-return), everything works great. When I publish and view
    online, here's what happens.
If I click a button to move to another frame in the movie
while the sound is playing, the frame rate speeds up and the movie
gets a "fast forward" look to it until the sound ends. If I click a
button when the sound is not playing, everything is fine. Am I
missing something in the publish settings? Do I need to stop the
sound in AS3 on the CLICK events (and if so, how)?
    Thanks,

You will have to use Compressor...and the Advanced Conversion settings...DVCPRO HD 720p24. But you will also need to go into the FRAME controls in the INSPECTOR and make sure that you make it progressive and that you changes all the settings to better or best. This means that it will take a while, but it will look better.

  • Panasonic P2 frame rates and FCP

I just got 2 new hvx200's and i'm trying out the frame rate options. Here's what i've tried.
    Shot in 480/60i, 480/30, 480/24P, and 480/24PA
I did the "easy setup" and my sequence says the Frame rate is 24. I had to render every clip. Then i changed to standard 30 fps. Every clip is fine and needs no rendering.
I checked all of my clips and they all say that the frame rate is 29.97.
How do i fix this problem?
I should be able to shoot 24, have the timeline 24 and see 24.
Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   4 GB DDR SDRAM

    Hmmmm...
Well, since I never had to deal with DV footage from that camera, from tape for P2, I don't know what to say. For DVCPRO HD there is a 24PN setting....I am not sure what the DV equivalent is or how it works.
YOu have this nice HD camera and P2 cards, why limit yourself to 480?

My client has delivered some footage using the DVCpro codac (not HD)
Quicktime reads the file correctly as 25fps but when I import the file into FCP, FCP shows it at 32fcp. Although the duration is correct it just shows black when it runs out of frames until it reaches the end.(too short)
I have tried to export a DV version using Qicktime but again FCP still reads it as 32 fps
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

QT and FCP, it seems, get their meta data info from different places. What I would do, and try this from both Quicktime Player and FCP, is export the clip and save it out at the same codec but specify that the frame rate should be 25. This may help clean the clip up without destroying the original.
