DVCPRO HD720P50 conversion to SD Issues

I'm working in FCP with HD720P50 footage - the original files in qtime state HD720P25/50
The sequence settings are 960x720 25fps
I have exported the sequence as Qtime reference file using the sequence settings and then imported to DVD Studio Pro
I've also exported the sequence into Compressor and used Mpeg2 compressions
The issue I have is that the DVD version (SD) is heavily pixelated and blocky (whilst on the computer running from the ts folder looks fine)
If anyone can give me some advice to get the SD DVD problem fixed I would really appreciate it!
Thanks
J

I have had success with letting Final Cut do the SD conversion when Compressor doesn't give me the desired results. It can take a while but the end result is always better
I create a 16x9 SD sequence and put my HD sequence into the SD and then render with the proper SD settings. Export a reference or self-contained QT to create the DVD files in Compressor.
Compressor is a great program but the HD to SD conversion can be hit or miss.

  • Exporting DVCPRO HD720p50 to DVD (PAL)

Hi. I'm currently edit on DVCPRO HD720p50, using FCP 6.0.2, Blackmagic HD card.
The video looks fine after upgraded my FCP to 6.0.2. It is extremely impressive in the timeline, but having problem in DVD (PAL) output.
I have tried out several approach, e.g. exporting direct from timeline using Compressor, export uncompressed mov and import to DVD Studio Pro, editing on different timeline and formats, but it ended up with the same problem - flicker visual. It ONLY works fine with DVCPRO HD720p50, editing timebase:50 (not even 25), and only can play back with SDI. Anything other than this setting will be flicker.
Is there any solution for this? Any suggestions to export DVCPRO HD720p50 to DVD in PAL? Help...

Finally, I found the way to do it.
DVCPRO HD 720p50 works absolutely fine when I export as a NTSC DVD, but it flickle when I export as PAL. Anyone know why?
I intended to export a PAL DVD, thus shot in 50p, but Compressor does not work well with PAL.

  • Conversion assistance : Goods Issue in the past

    Hello All,
Looking for some help for conversion of transactional data from Legacy.
Client wants to have the "goods issues in the past" to be converted to reflect the actual transactional data .
Anybody done anything similar in the past?
    Appreciate the assistance!
    CJ

in general any goods movement of valuated stock will create accounting ddocuments and hence effect finance.
Dont spend to much time to think about migrating historical movements, it is not possible.
if you plan such, then you would need to add all consumptions to your stock migration and reduce this by all past receipts.
As the movements are usually not stand-alone activities, you have to consider that you cannot perform a goods receipt without having the old (and already closed) purchase order/production order migrated.
further the goods receipt would recalculated the moving average price, so you would need to post all historic movements in sequence of their original entry. but this means you would as well need to post invoices, which will then lead to a second payment to the vendor (do you really want that)
all this for a statistical transaction like MC46?
If you are going to a new system, then a new time begins to start.
I guess you will have more important  problems around go live than a MC46 list.

  • UOM conversion problem when issuing material against BOM

    Hi All
I have a material which is part of a production BOM.
    The base UOM is EA.
    The issuing UOM is KG.
    I have a UOM conversion of 20 KG = 1 EA.
In the BOM I need to issue 0.034 KG.
When backflushing happens, it issues 1 EA.
Why is it not issuing in KG?
This is a problem because in effect i have now issued 20 KG instead of 0.034 KG!
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Deidre

    Dear All
Thank you for your input. I have double checked and everything in the BOM header and component level is KG, and the plant/storage location data is also KG. The only place the EA appears is in the base uom.
I suppose the biggest mistake is that the material should have been created with base UOM of KG, but it's too late to change it now, which is why I hoped the UOM conversion would have taken care of that.
@Mario, i was actually trying to post 0.034 KG, which then got posted as 1 EA.
    Thanks

I checked in configuration.....like section code place, business place and even in SM30 J_1I_SECCODE....TAN is there at all three places...
    I have three requirements now
    1. How to update TAN in text file
    2. I want to get mobile no of TDS deductor in text file
    3. Where to update BSR code and even i want it to be updated in text file.
I expect some of the experts to reply who had done already for their requirements. Its urgent please...

    Hi,
Issue resolved. Problem is TAN no, MOBILE no of TDS deductor, and BSR code not been updated in text file that we generate thrugh J1INQEFILE.
I have done manually by putting these things in text file and uploaded. I got the FUV file.
For TAN updating, SAP told us to apply some note.
SO, issue is NO MORE now.

  • DVCPRO HD firewire output audio issue

Hi, having a few problems with DVCPRO HD audio
    Here is the situation
Shoot DVCPRO HD 1080i50 using P2 camera (HPX2100).
Edit on a 1080i50 DVCPRO HD timeline using an intel Macbook pro.
When monitoring the audio on the mac all is good.
Crackles appear on the audio when the timeline is played back to a P2 camera or deck (both set to DVCPRO HD 1080i50)
This has been the case with several Macbook Pros (Leopard and Tiger) and a Mac Pro tower.
When using the Mac Pro tower, playout was also fine when using the internal AJA HD-SDI card.
I think I know that this is a firewire issue, but I am now a bit lost as what to do about it.
Anybody had the same problem or know any answers.
    Thanks
    David Rees.

The only way to get your timeline to tape via firewire is if your sequence is a DVCPRO HD sequence. If it is Uncompressed 10-bit, the signal will not go down the firewire cable...only out via a Decklink card.
We are recording onto a standard 66 minute DVCPro Tape and the deck is(supposed to be) upscaling the SD footage to DVCPro HD 1080i.
Uhm...no. The deck can record a DVCPRO HD signal that is being fed it via firewire, or an HD signal that is being fed to it via a capture card. It is the job of the CARD to convert the footage, not the deck. If the card has that option. My Decklink HD card doesn't. But I do not have the Extreme card, so I don't know what options it has.
    http://www.decklink.com/products/multibridge/
It mentions that it can DOWNCONVERT from HD to SD, which mine can...but nothing about upconverting SD to HD in real time. I don't think there is a card out there that can do that...output SD to upconvert to HD. That is something you have to do in your timeline, or via a Terranex box at a post facility.
In other words...I don't think you can do what you are trying to do.

  • Publisher/PDF Conversion - Word Spacing Issues

I use publisher 2003, and am having never-before experienced problems when converting into a PDF (recently upgraded to Acrobat 9 Pro). During the conversion, I notice strange gaps in the middle of words. I converted the publisher document using both full- and left-align text, and still experiencing the problem...below is an example. Check out the words: "weeds," "are," "cause," and "public." Any advice on how to stop this from happening??

Font embedding was checked, but creating the PDF in "Print" worked like a charm. Feeling sheepish that I didn't think of that first! :-) Thanks for the help.

  • Color conversion to PDF issues

Hello, I am attempting to convert my document to PDF format. My company has STRICT rules on the colour of the logo. I saw in another post about RGB to CMYK settings and I have tried everything from setting them in Framemaker as CMYK, then changing the PDF Document Properties setting to leave colors unchanged, not to conver to RGB or CMYK, Using Postscript and Distilling, to no avail, the colour always comes out incorrect. Any suggestions? Thank You!
    Frame 7.1
    Acrobat 8
    Lisa

    Lisa,
The solution suggested by VAN may work perfectly for you in regard to on-line viewing, but will most likely not work in print.
The solution suggested by Sheila is more general and will also enable proper conversion for prepress PDF's. To do it you'll need to create a custom color map, that remap the RGB-color from Heading1 to the CMYK (or SPOT) color from the logo art.
To create a custom color map in Grafikhuset Publi PDF you simply right-click the Publi PDF icon in the system tray, select the Attended Queue you want to use, and then turn on automatic creation of color maps in the Optimizer section of the pop-up menu. This will prompt you with an interface that allow you to create new spot colors -- next time you print to the queue.
Clicking the "Convert to" field for each listed Gray, RGB, CMYK or other spot color allow you to remap colors exactly as your job require. When finished you can save the color map for later use. You may actually attach it to the queue, so you don't need to enter new information each time you print (If you attach it to the queue you should switch off the automatic color map creation, since its OFF state assure that the analysis phase is skipped and conversion is run directly without prompting).
Note: due to a font-error with input fields in the color map editor you must have XP themes enabled, i.e. the classic Windows 2000 interface still works, but will display text and numbers as WingDings (fixed with a patch coming soon).
    Hope this helps.

  • DVCPRO HD to SD DVD issues

I'm cross posting this from the compressor forum, because it looks like that forum is dead.
We made the jump to HD and started shooting in DVCPRO HD (1080i60). We still deliver all of our final shows on standard DVD. I've been trying all week to come up with a workflow that will make a decent DVD from DVCPRO HD timelines, but I just can't get a decent image. First i tried just using the 2 pass best 90 minutes setting, and the dvd looked awful. Lots of heavy artifacting everywhere. Surfed the forums a bit, and someone recommended that I first convert the DVCPRO HD movie to SD 8 bit, then make the mpegs from the 8 bit movie. That helped a little, but still had artifacting in shoulders, hair, etc... So then I turned frame controls on and used the best setting for the resize filter when going from HD to SD 8 bit. This made further progress, but is still a lot worse than other SD dvd's I make with DVCPRO 50 footage or even mini dv footage. Anyone have a workflow out there that will give me a decent looking DVD? I can't seem to crack the HD to SD code.
    I'm using Compressor 3 on a G5 quad.
I've gotten a suggestion on the cow forums to run the video out to a stand alone DVD recorder as a solution, but we don't have one of those. Is there really no way to get a decent looking image out of compressor with this type of footage?

The way it looks in your sequence is the way it will come out in the SD DVD... so if it's OK there, it's good to go all the way to a SD MPEG file and burn to a DVD.

  • Import & conversion to .dng issue

When I import .CR2 (Canon RAW files) into LR4 and convert them to .dng I get a yellow cast and all of the settings have changed. I can use "Reset" and it gets the original back. I have not changed any import settings-any ideas?

Just found out, that if you in the develop mode selects "copy before's setings to after" then the damage is restored. It is almost like LR is looking at the alteration it has done when converting to the DNG as a user requested operation (not the dng conversion but the alteration of colours and so forth)
This doesn't particually make be comfortable using the DNG instead of Canons CR2.

  • DVCPRO HD black and code issue.

I am unable to get the Panasonci HD-1200A to black and code in DF only NDF. An odd work around I have discovered it to insert a tape already carrying DF and then an in point in the edit to tape window. Then insert blank tap and hit black and encode but the drop frame check box is not checked but it starts at 58:00:00;02 so I hope the ; means I am inserting drop frame tc. Any one have any ideas? I have been through the 1200A menus and all seems to be in order.

    WAIT...DVCPRO HD...DF timeline...
What version of FCP are you running? What is the frame rate of your sequence? 720p 23.98 is ONLY drop frame...period. That is not a DF frame rate. And only with FCP 6.0.2 can you get DF timelines with 720p 29.97 and 720p 59.94.

  • Windows 7 (64 bit) iTunes 9.2 Outlook 2010 Sync Issues

I’ve noticed bunch of conversations here about issues with the new version of iTunes NOT syncing with outlook contacts / calendars but none of them seem to be resolved. I also have lost my calendar sync since I installed the new iTunes. I have un-installed / re-installed iTunes, tried creating a new PST file, created a new mail account, tried pretty much everything I can think of and nothing works. I have wasted more than 23 hours of my time playing with trying to fix this and I am getting pretty fed up. My question is has ANYBODY actually made it work. I fear we may be wasting our time meaning that there is a bug that no one at Apple cares to acknowledge. Thoughts?

    Hello,
I've been searching through the forum, but did not find someone having a real solution in my situation having the problem as described above. I defintly CANNOT delete all my recurrent appointments! I have about 10.000 elements in my Outlook calender, because I'm really using it for planning my whole business day. Isn't there another solution?
I was syncing my iPad-calender with MS Outlook (2003 SP3) successful during the last days, but "suddenly" (I think, it was after the iTunes Update) the syncing process was silently stopped as beeing successfull, and no appointments were synced anymore.
I already followed the rules to resetting the syncdata history of iTunes and also forced to overwrite the iPads calender, but it still remains as before.
Then I decided to delete the calender by stopping the calender syncing, I mean, I deactivated the hook and then iTunes asked, if I will delete all the data on the iPad, where I then agreed to, as you also describe. Then the calender was successfully emptied, but activating it again after syncing, the OLD state is synced back to the iPad and not my currently modified scheduled appointments from Outlook. This is a miracle, because these are old/deleted data!!! It seems the iPad is just doing a "undo".
I already tried the "Help -> Start diagnosis" feature, this said, everything is fine. So, now I don't know, what to to?! I just want to have my calender synchronized!
Changing the files "ssleay32.dll" and "libeay32.dll" by updating OpenSSL or copying from the iTunes "http://...\Apple\Mobile Device Support"-Folder did not lead to any changes :-/.
    I'm using iTunes v9.2.1.4, iPad iOS 3.2.1, Outlook 2003 SP3.
So is there someone having some more ideas or giving me a hint, where I maybe could read somthing about a possible error in a log or something like that? Maybe, only ONE appointment is "ill"; how could I detect it?
    Regards, Andreas

  • RAW conversion comments

I respect a photographers personal opinions regarding their perceptions of differing quality levels in RAW conversions but in the commercial world these perceived differences between Aperture and say ACR are so minimal they certainly do not qualify as a deal breaker.
In the real world of commercial photography, design and printing, photo images are ultimately used as 8 bit CMYK files or when used for Giclee printing as 8 bit RGB files. These files go through so much retouching and manipulation after the RAW conversion that the esoteric quality differences talked about in these posts are irrelevant.
The proper use of any Camera RAW converter is to balance the image before outputting it as a 16 bit TIFF or PSD for refined manipulation in Photoshop. This would include refined levels adjustments sometimes with layer masks and appropriate sharpening at the final output size.
We typically use the RAW converter to:
1- Pull back highlights that appeared to be blown
2- Open shadow detail that appeared to be plugged
3- Correct color casts and saturation
4- In some cases add special effects such as conversion to rich B&W
Very few serious professionals in either the commercial or fine arts world are going to use the RAW conversion as their final image.
We can argue forever about the pros and cons of this or that RAW conversion quality, but in the real world Aperture's solution, while not absolutely perfect, does an excellent job within a program that enhances real world productivity.
    Dual 2ghz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Tom...
With respect, your logic is hard to accept. You state that in the commercial world, images are typically so heavily manipulated that initially quality of RAW conversion is non-issue.
I am surprised that no one has bothered to challenge this idea. So I'll step up.
If my RAW conversion out of ANY program is going to introduce banding artifacts, 'parquet flooring' patterns, or other noisy type data into solidly colored areas, that will need to be fixed in this manipulation of which you speak. Who could justify having to do this sort of thing when there are perfectly good RAW converters out there that don't add this particular headache to the workflow?
Your message states that "Apertures solution, while not absolutely perfect, does an excellent job within a program that enhances real world productivity."
That statement stands as a contradiction when you consider that extra 'fixing' may need to be done to some images coming straight out of Apertures RAW conversion.
I suspect that you (and others) are not seeing problems because evidence is mounting to support the idea that Apertures RAW conversion works better for some flavors of RAW than others. So, perhaps some people are seeing consisten image trashing, and some not. If this is the case, one could easily understand why some are 'satisfied' and some are positively livid.
However, I digress. I still don't agree at all with the idea that in the commercial world a substandard RAW conversion would make an acceptable starting point for any commercial image, regardless of how much manipulation down the track its going to go through. I can't see any art director being satisfied knowing this was going on in their shop.
"Aperture - sure it mangles your images, but it does a heck of a job keeping track of them!"
    Jim
