DVCPROHD into SD Sequence

Hi everyone,
So I've edited a piece that was shot on P2 at 720p, 23.98. The final delivery, however, must be NTSC 4x3, full-frame (not letterbox). When I simply copy a clip from the 720 sequence to the NTSC sequence it comes in at 75% scale, and it appears letterboxed. Scaling it up to 100% merely fills the frame. But that's not enough, because 720p in a 720x486 sequence should have a lot of vertical space to spare. So this is leaving me no room to pan or resize the shot. I think if I blow it up to 133% that'd be about the full size, but will anything above 100% start losing image quality?
I've tried messing with the anamorphic setting, with the distortion settings...nothing seems to make this behave properly. I did export a 10bit 1280x720 clip, and when I bring that in it works, but I don't want to do that to the whole piece because it'll make repositioning each shot a pain in the butt. My last resort will be to export the sequence that way with Media Manager, but does anyone have any ideas before I do that?
Thanks!
Jeremy

Well I'm going into a 10-bit 720x486 sequence for delivery. So I'm not talking about losing quality due to different data rates, that won't be an issue. I'm talking about losing quality due to having to scale the clip up to 133% to get it to where it ought to be, mathematically, at 100%.
I can get it to fill the frame, no problem. But a video that's 720 pixels tall should more than fill a 486 frame at 100% scale, there should be a couple hundred pixels left over so that I can reposition some of shots vertically.
So it sounds like you got the same result as I did, and that's not what should happen. I think it's got to do with the fact that DVCPROHD is actually 960 wide, not 1280, and FCP is getting confused with the whole anamorphic thing.
So my solution is to wait for the edit to be locked and approved, and then media manage the sequence to 10-bit 1280x720. Because when I bring that into an NTSC sequence the resolution behaves properly and I've got all the room to pan and scan that I need.
Unless you've got a better idea...?

  • Problems cutting a sequence into another sequence

    Hello,
    We have followed the steps outlined here:  Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Edit from sequences loaded into the Source monitor  to cut a sequence into another sequence without it nesting.  We are on Premiere Pro 2014.1.   We often need to work in the same episode but want to combine the work at some point so we need to be able to mark in and out points on a sequence in the source monitor and cut that into a pre existing sequence on the timeline.  We have turned off the 'nest' button in the upper left hand corner of the time line but it randomly works.  Sometimes it nests, sometimes it doesn't and sometimes it just crashes.
    We have tried very short sequences and have better luck with them, but we need to be able to cut in more than two minutes of material at a time.  Cut and paste also doesn't work.  This is a huge inconvenience in our editing pipeline and very frustrating since both Final Cut and Avid do it easily.  Is there a fix?
    Thanks.

    I just created a test sequence with an hour of multiple clips and was easily able to cut sections of that into a another sequence. The feature is functioning perfectly and as expected for me. I tested on my MacBook Pro OS X 10.8.5, 2.7 GHz i7, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA 650M.
    You may want to conduct standard troubleshooting procedures, including trashing preferences, media cache, preview files, repairing permissions, checking permissions on all Adobe preference folders, and if none of those things work, reinstalling.
    Thanks,

  • Audio "sub-clips" won't play in source monitor, but will play when cut into a sequence.

    I'm cutting an "audio only" project in Premiere and I came across a strange problem while making sub-clips. The first 6 sub clips made from the same master audio clip were normal, but then something changed, and the rest of them won't play any sound while in the "Source" window, even though while in the window the sub-clip displays a waveform.
    Once edited into a sequence they play normally, but not being able to listen to the sub clips in the source monitor is annoying, and louses up my whole editing routine for this kind of project.
    Any ideas as to why this is happening, or what I might do to fix it?

    Number of issues here:
    1. Your system does not meet minimum requirements.
    2. Your CPU, disks, memory are not enough for anything other than DV.
    3. What video camera was used with what codec on what OS with which version of PR. etc.

  • Dynamic Linked DVCPROHD 720 PPro sequence = letterbox!!!

    Encore CS5, but it may as well be CS4, for that matter: whilst sending a DVCPROHD 720p/24pN sequence to Encore, the transcode always defaults to a 4:3 letterbox M2V file, even if I manual set the transcode settings. Is there something I'm missing, or is this just a bug that is not/will not be squashed?
    And yeah, I can always transcode from Premiere, but that's not what I paid for...
    <grr...>
    Thanks...

    DVCPRO HD size is 960x720 with PAR 1.3333 and it's not a blu-ray legal size. Blu-ray supports 1280x720 with PAR 1:1. So If you want to create a Blu-ray or DVD using DVCPRO HD sequences in Encore CS5, you need to import a 1280x720 size sequences instead of 960x720.

  • 60i footage into 24p sequence

    Hi,
    I have 60i footage that I want to import into a 24p sequence. The scene was filmed in 60i specifically because I want to slow it down 50% in my premiere sequence and the 24p does not allow for good slow motion.

    Thanks!

  • Importing/scaling 720x480 video into 1920x1080 sequence

    I have AVI file from my older DV camcorder that is 720x480 29.97fps interlace.  I want to use these files in my 1920x1080p 23.976fps Premiere Pro CC 2014 sequence.  When I drop a 720x480 video clip into the 1920x1080 timeline, the video appears as a small thumbnail size clip.  I want the video clip to occupy the 1920x1080 workspace as much as possible with nothing cropped.  This means I want the black bars on the left and right.  Question:  What is the difference between "Scale to Frame Size" and "Set to Frame Size"?  Both options appear to deliver the same result that I want.  Is one option better than the other?  Thanks.  (Or is there a better way to upscale 720x480 footage into a 1920x1080 sequence without using third party software?)

    Here's a pretty good description of set-to-frame-size

  • Copy Input Ready Query Variables into Planning Sequence

    Hi all,
           We have the following scenario. We developed a model using Web Template. The model has an input ready query and a Panning sequence associated with it. Both of them using the same Planning Filter that has a input variable for Profit Center (say ZPCTR). If I run this model in Portal the planning sequence automatically takes the variable given for the input ready query and the sequence runs without any problem.
           We were asked to implement the same model in BEx as the users felt more comfortable using Excel when working on this model. When we assinged the planning sequence to a button and after we run the input ready query and then click on the button to run the planning sequence, we get an error message saying "You have to enter values before you execute". The Planning sequence is not taking the values we enter for the input ready query automatically.
          I read through the forums on the same issue and saw that most of them reported about the same but could not find a conclusive answer. I tried the following options.
    1) Enter the expected values in the excel in one location and gave the address in the "Command Range" of the planning sequence. Still it does not work.
    2) Tried SAP suggested method as given in http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/45/e301089d574a88e10000000a155369/frameset.htm It also does not work
    3) Couple of them suggested to use a different variable for Profit Center in the filter of Planning sequence (say ZPCTR_EXIT) and populate this variable. I wrote an exit for this variable and populated a fixed value say '100' into it. The sequence runs as expected. But I do not want use a constant, I want to store the value entered in ZPCTR into ZPCTR_EXIT.
       when I use the regular logic "LOOP AT i_t_var_range INTO var_inpiut WHERE vnam = 'ZPCTR' ", it does not work. the exit variable works if I store some constant values, not variable values.
        Can you please suggest how can I work with this. Is there any table from which I can read the profit center value the users enters into the Exit variable.
    Thanks for your time,
    Ram.

    This error generally comes when we use some user input variable in the sequence which is not restricted in the query. Even though you are using the same filter for both planning sequence and query, check the planning functions inside the sequence which might read an user input variable which is not available in the query so that it is not appearing in the query selection screen. Like in FOX reading a variable using VARV or a variable restricted in the field for condition of planning function etc. Make sure that all the variables used in the sequence (planning functions) are kept in query restrictions if they are of type ready for user input so that they will appear in the selection screen.

  • "Diff Sequence File With" doesn't look into sub-sequences.

    Hello guys.
    I have these 2 sequences in Teststand 2.0 that I'm trying to compare, but when I use the command "Edit" - "Diff Sequence File With" it only looks in the upper level properties (MainSequence, FileGlobals, etc.) but it doesn't check for the contents inside the sub-sequences, which is where I have most of my measurements and tests.
    Hope you can help. Thanks.

    If you expand the 'Sequences' node, you should see the list of all the
    sequences from your file.  Then expand one of the Sequences and it
    should list the Context variables for those Sequences.  This is
    where you should see a comparison of the Locals set.  As a test,
    try comparing the Sequential (SequentialModel.seq) and Batch
    (BatchModel.seq) process models.  You can find them in the
    <TestStand>\Components\NI\Models\TestStandModels directory.
    Perhaps you could post the two sequences you are trying to compare if
    you are still running into problems.

  • Tricking COTS Into Using Sequences

    I am using a COTS software that does about 100-200 concurrent inserts into many tables at a time. This software uses a table to store the values of about 25 sequences. So for each insert, a process has to lock the row, select the value, insert the rows, increment the value and then release the lock. This is not scalable at all and as much as I try I can't get the COTS devlopers to use oracle sequences So I guess one of my questions is that I am looking for the best way to trick the app into using oracle sequences. I am in the process of trying the following, which is creating the oracle sequences, then creating a funtion for each sequence which returns its value. I then create a view that unions all the functions. I then create an instead of update trigger on this view, which does baiscally nothing. This process works pretty well, except for the fact that when the update is done, it queries the view which causes the sequences to increment. So for a single process, the sequence increments during the initial select and then again during the update. So I am not using every other number.
    Current Process
    create sequence seq_one nocycle noorder cache 10000 start with 1;
    create sequence seq_two nocycle noorder cache 10000 start with 1;
    create function func_one return number
    as
    cnt number;
    begin
    select seq_one.nextval into cnt from dual;
    return cnt;
    end;
    create function func_two return number
    as
    cnt number;
    begin
    select seq_two.nextval into cnt from dual;
    return cnt;
    end;
    create view sequences
    as
    select 'seq_one' Sequence_Name, func_one Sequence_Value from dual
    union all
    select 'seq_two' Sequence_Name, func_two Sequence_Value from dual;
    create trigger trigger_sequences
    instead of update on sequences
    begin
    dbms_output.put_line('');
    end;
    Thanks for any feedback!!

    You are wasting your time doing what is roughly equivalent to trying to prove to someone that the sun comes up in the morning.
    Your vendor knows it.
    Your vendor doesn't care.
    They don't care because companies like yours continue to by their trash so why should they put down their beers and write new
    code and go through a testing cycle when it doesn't bring a single dollar to their bottom line? Because some guy is complaining
    who's management won't back him up?
    The table exists for one of two reasons. Either the vendor wants a single solution for Oracle and SQL Server and other anemic
    databases or they are lazy and uneducated. Choose whichever one you wish.
    Which takes you back to the choices in my original email. Either your company switches, your find something else to worry about,
    or you get out of there and find a better job.

  • Turn SD sequence with black bars into HD sequence

    We want our finished piece to be broadcast in HD. We noticed with have a couple sequences in standard def (with black bars on top and bottom) and we need them to match the other HD sequence settings (1080 X 1440-no black bars). When I change the SD sequences to match the HD sequences in squishes the video into a tiny box in the middle of the canvas screen. How do I make our sequences match?

    That's not how you make SD into HD. Not in any way that will be of any good quality or broadcast acceptable. Is the footage HD, and in an SD sequence? Or is the footage SD, and you are trying to scale it to HD?

  • Nesting into different sequence settings

    Howdy, I have an assumption I would like to check.
    I have a final sequence edited in NTSC DV.
    I want to avoid DV recompression on the way to Compressor and DVD, so I am moving it to an 8-bit sequence.
    In the past I have done this by copying all the contents to the new sequence.
    But it occurs to me that it might be the same result if I nest the DV sequence in the 8-bit sequence instead.
    Is it the same... i.e. no rendered DV recompressions will make it through the DV sequence either way?
    Reasons to bother: want to avoid confusion with any further fixups, and I want to apply BS and audio compression to the nest anyway.
    Thanks.

    As far as I know, only markers in the sequence time ruler and cuts in the sequence you encode will make it through as compression/edit/cut markers/in Compressor. So if you edit one sequence into another, you'll have to get the markers into the "container" sequence. You can do this by nesting all the clips within the original sequence, or by duplicating the sequence and editing the original into it.
    Some potential advantages to not nesting in this way:
    Compressor will put an I-frame at each cut in your sequence, whereas nesting them will only allow Compressor to put extra I-frames on chapter or compression markers you have added.
    By placing a broadcast safe filter on the entire nested sequence, you are possibly clamping down on the luma and saturation on clips that don't need it, but more importantly, you are forcing FCP to process that filter even for the 80-90% of frames in your sequence which would be unaffected by it, greatly increasing your render/encode times.
    I usually wind up cusotmizing a BS filter and saving it in the favorites bin, same with audio compression, and then quickly adding it to individual clips or groups by dragging from the favorites, or by pasitng attributes.
    Happy editing -
