DVCPROHDAudio.plugin Error - Sound Randomly Works

I get the following error in the console:
Error loading /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/DVCPROHDAudio.plugin/Contents/MacOS/DVCPROHDAudio: dlopen(/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/DVCPROHDAudio.plugin/Contents/MacOS/DVCPROHD Audio, 262): no suitable image found. Did find:
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/DVCPROHDAudio.plugin/Contents/MacOS/DVCPROHDAudio: no matching architecture in universal wrapper
This error hits every time I try and run safari and use any kind of sound. For example, if I go to a site where I can play a sound file Safari will lock up, beach ball of death and then I have to force quit. When I look in the console I get the above error. Noticed also that any applications that use sound (games, apps, etc.) will also produce this error and the audio playback sometimes will not work. Interestingly, I can use Firefox without any problems on sites that will lock up Safari when audio is involved.
Any advice? I searched the forums and google but didn't see much! Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

The plugin-container process is used to run a few plugins like Flash in its own process instead of via Firefox to prevent crashes in the plugin from taking the Firefox program down.
If killing the plugin-container process works then there is a Flash or other supported plugin running somehow.<br />

  • DVCPROHDAudio.plugin error / system log

I discovered this repeating error in the system log.
I did see an archived post that said this was issue with an old Final Cut Studio plug-in that it would not load on Intel mac. I don't have Final Cut Studio.
I do have final cut express hd installed, and thought maybe the error producing plug-in is there, but I can't locate it.

I have been having this problem for years.  Searching around the net you find many instances of people reporting the endless crashing of that plugin even with no audio apps running.  Apple has failed to ever respond to any of it, and to this day my completely up-to-date current system still has this issue.  Even when I wipe the hard drive, install Snow Leopard fresh, then Logic Studio, fully update everything, the issue is there.  There is absolutely nothing that is known to resolve it that I can find anywhere.  The only solution is removing the plugin from Library.  I zip it and stash it in my documents folder awaiting the day Apple bothers to acknowledge their Pro App users and do something about this issue that's been going on since at least 2009 with every OS X released since.

  • My Macbook Pro makes the Windows Critical Error sound randomly.

So recently my MacBook Pro 17" Late 2011 has been making the Windows critical error sound just out of the blue. It even happens when the sound is off or the lid is closed. I do not have a windows program open but i do have VMWare and Windows installed on it but it happens even with the program closed down. Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

  • Sound not working & iTunes won't play & Netflix error

Sometimes my sound stops working, and songs on iTunes won't play when this happens. Also if I try to watch Netflix an error message comes up: "Netflix Playback Error N8157 3140" and it says it could have something to do with my Silverlight plugin.
    This is what it says:
The error you're seeing is related to the Silverlight plugin, which Netflix uses to play movies and TV shows on your computer.
This error is usually caused by one of two things:
A computer setting preventing Silverlight from storing files it needs to play your movie or TV show
An issue with the Silverlight plugin itself
To fix this error, follow the steps below for your Windows or Mac computer.
    Reinstall your audio card drivers
Your audio card drivers may be out of date or corrupt.
Uninstall and reinstall your audio card driver. Your owner's manual or audio card manufacturer's website can help.
However, I have tried deleting and reinstalling silverlight, but it doesn't make a difference. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? It only happens sometimes, other times I have no problems and it works fine.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Silverlight
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the selected item to the Trash. Relaunch the application and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Sound randomly stops working in Windows 8

I have a new HP PC and the sound randomly stops working.  When the sound stops, it stops in all applications:  iTunes, Web Browser, etc.
    PC DETAILS:
    HP Omni 27 all-in-one desktop
    Windows 8 Pro
In Device Manager, under Sound, this is what I have:
    - AVerMedia H334 MiniCard Hybrid ATSC/QAM
    - Bluetooth Audio Device
    - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
I just set up this new pc this week and I have run all the windows  and drivers updates so everything is up to date.
When I boot up the pc, the sound works fine for a while and then randomly stops working.  For example, if I play music in iTunes 11, the latest version, it may play for 1 minute or it may play for 10 minutes and then it just randomly stops playing sound and the sound will not come back until I reboot and the same thing happens all over again.
I have searched this online and I found quite a few people posting similar sound issues with Windows 8, but I have not found a fix for this problem yet.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do not understand that; if it's not installed, it cannot possibly be enabled.

  • Sound randomly stops working on Iphone 5c

The sound randomly will stop working. (ringers, audio, etc.) I have had this phone for one day.
Oddly enough, the same thing was going on with my iphone 5 which is a big reason I went and upgraded, now i am just very aggravated!
Anyone know what could be going on??

I have the same problem with my new 5c, seemingly carried over from when I upgraded from my old 3s that had the same problem - all sounds randomly stop working (although vibrate seems to still work) and then randomly start working again.
When you set up your new phone did you 'restore' from your old phone's back-up or set it up completely like a new phone? I did the former so I assume whatever the 'glitch' is, it may be something to do with that.
I called 1-800-MYIPHONE and was advised to do a hard reset - I questioned the point of that when I effectively started from scratch with my new phone only a few weeks ago (well, when I say from scratch I of course mean I 'restored' from my old phone's back-up so that all my stuff would carry over...), plus given the coincidence of having the same problem on my old phone... Next guidance was to restore the phone to factory settings and start over from 'new phone' status, which I did this afternoon... so far so good but we shall see. Here's a link to the guide on how to do it if you want to give it a whirl:

  • My sound randomly stopped working on my ipad how do i fix it?, my sound randomly stopped working on my ipad how do i fix it?

well my sound randomly one day stopped working how do i fix it so my sound will be ok again?

I would start by checking the mute button on the side of the iPad to make sure that this has not accidentally gotten switched. Then go into settings> general>sounds and make sure that everything is on, etc.
It would be helpful to know if the sound isn't working constantly and for every purpose or only in certain circumstances.

    Lao Bo,
yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
    find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
    find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
    cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
    ls /Volumes
Please let me know if you have any trouble with these commands.

  • Right-click to select "Back" works but is accompanied by error sound

Anyone know if Is this a known issue: In Safari (v4 Public Beta, Build 5528.17), every time I right-click and then select Back, the previous page is returned, but I get an error sound as the menu is drawn. This appears to be new with the new Beta and began occurring after installation of the initial download (an earlier build). It also happens using the trackpad.
I'm using a third-party Logitech mouse with OS X drivers, and the buttons are set correctly. I cannot account for the behavior. It's very annoying. An older, now archived post indicated that the behavior was also noticed using Apple mice.
    Any clues?

    Hi,
There's a chance it could be a faulty contextual menu item that is erroring and causing the sound. Have a look in these 2 folders to see if anything is present, and if so ove them to your Desktop temporarily to disable them. You'll need to quit and restart Safari for it to notice the change:
Hard drive > Users > Your Username > Library > Contextual Menu Items
Hard drive > Library > Contextual Menu Items

  • Iphone 3Gs phone sounds stop working at random.

I have an Iphone 3Gs and am having some issues with the phone sounds. I can lock the phone after its been working perfectly and come back to it in a few minutes and the unlock sound will be gone, the key sounds dont work and any apps that have sound will not put out any sound. The phone is never set to silent and the volume levels are always around the same level, also if I open the ipod the tracks will play but there will be no sound through the phone or the headphones/speakers and the onscreen volume level slider does not appear.
During this issue the alarm will still sound out and the ringer still rings and the sms tone will still sound.
I can rectify this by switching the phone of and on but this is happening more and more and Im sorry for seeming to over the top but this is a huge inconvenience and shouldnt happen in the first place.
Is there a reason this happens and is there anything I can do to stop it happening again?

I have the exact same problem.. Just got a brand new 3GS today, after my old one was replaced.
The sounds stops working and at some occasions the speaker will play some strange sounds. Even noticed that when my gf tried calling the phone, it gave away a "phone to close to speaker-sound". If you know what i mean.
I have no idea what to do, anyone?

  • Browser Sound Stopped Working

I have a PowerBook with 10.4.7. For whatever reason, the sound has stopped working in Safari and Firefox. I get sound in Quicktime but not using Flash, Realplayer or any other html sound such as greeting cards. The guy at the genius bar suggested doing an Archive and Install. I did that and no change. I also have Virtual PC and when that starts it gives me an error stating it can't find the sound system. I can use iTunes and the sound works fine so it isn't the speakers. I know I loaded some plugin that broke the sound but I don't know what I did or when the sound stopped working. Any suggesting
    Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    rjarman1,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Check No sound from some applications, but system alert sounds play (Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4).
If you have Garage Band, you may also benefit from starting that application.

It started yesterday when i was listening to itunes when all of a sudden the music stopped playing and i had to hold down the power button to shut it down and reboot, and then, when i logged back in, the error sound played, and then finder opened up, but the window was grayed out like i had another app selected, bu i didn't, so i tried to open up itunes and the icon started bouncing and then it stopped midbounce and i had to reboot again because finder wasnt responding. now when i log in, the error sound plays, and finder immediately stops working and then i have to reboot again because i cant click anything and i cant properly relaunch finder. please help

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Sound randomly goes on and off on my IMac

I have a 2006 IMac that works perfectly except for one thing. One day last year out of the blue the sound stopped working and I would get the 'not allowed' circle when I tried to adjust the volume. the problem persisted for a week or so, then the sound just came back on. Everything was fine untill a month ago when the same thing happened. I did some research and tried the toothpick trick and everything related but nothing worked, then the next morning the sound was on. Over the next few weeks the sound would go on and off randomly for no apparent reason. It has now been off for two solid weeks and I don't know what to do. Is it possibly a loose connection inside the computer that just needs to be plugged in? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Performing both of these usually cures the problem:
Resetting the SMC (System Management Controller) on Intel-based Macs:
