DVD as both 4:3 and 16:9?

I want to make a video for my brother, but half the content is SD 4:3. The other half will be 16:9 HDV downconverted to DV. My question is, if I export each DVD chapter separately so that I can make the 16:9 clips anamorphic, when I go to put them onto a DVD via DVDSP, will it be able to change from 4:3 to 16:9 on the fly, or will I need to pick one aspect ratio and stick with it? I think if I need to go that route, 16:9 it will be, just cause that's the future and my bro would probably watch it on his powerbook (16:10) most frequently.

Bit of a question for the DVDsp forum however rather than widdle you off and send you there . .
In DVDSP you can specify the format of each track as you add it so you would need to preserve each clip in its respective format rather than export the edit as a complete chunk and expect DVDSP to know how to display each clip as it encounters the chapter markers.
It makes little difference although you might get some funky switching as the playback tv interprets the 4:3 and 16:9 flags. Personally I'd make a decision at the edit stage and decide which TV format is most likely to be used.
either letterbox the 16:9 or enlarge the 4:3 to fill a 16:9 frame.

  • Can I burn a DVD with both 4:3 and 16:9 from a HD video edited in FCP

I created a video in FCP from a HD video camera. I usally burn a wide screen DVD, but this time I want to burn a 4:3 dv DVD. Can this be done? And if it can how would I do it? Please help.

    Hi:
In DVDSP you can set 16:9 tracks/menus to display letterboxed in 4:3 TVs and full screen in 16:9 ones. In the item properties you must set as Display Mode: 16:9 letterbox (no Pan&Scan).
No need to re-edit the source in a 4:3 timeline.
    Hope that helps !

  • What is the most efficent way to create both a standard and HD DVD

    Hi,
I'm just getting into HD video editing, and I have relatives who will be several years behind me. I will be making HD DVD's for myself to use, but I will also need to make standard DVD's to send to my relatives.I am assuming that the HD DVD's I create will not play in a standard DVD player. I may be wrong. However, If this is correct, is there a particular point in the process of working with Encore where I can make that choice, create the DVD, and then go back and alter it in order to create the other type without destroying and having to redo everything that was done up to that point?

Thank you Hunt. Being ahead of most of the rest of the world and getting the best technology out there can be a pain sometimes. Reading through Jon Geddes' article left me scratching my head several times, and some of it went way over my head, but I'll keep at it, until it sinks in. Some language, terms, and shorthand, I'm sure are simple to understand to a lot of people, but I'm not in that catagory. I'll just keep working at it.

I would edit the Project in HD in PrPro. The BD authoring part will be straight workflow.
For the SD DVD-Video, you have a few choices. You can Export to DV-AVI Type II for Import into a new Encore Project for the DVD. Some feel that PrPro does not do a good job at down-rezing from HD to SD. For a workflow that will likely yield better quality, see this http://www.precomposed.com/blog/2009/07/hd-to-sd-dvd-best-methods/. If you have PrPro/Encore CS4, then Jeff Bellune's /thread/487134?tstart=0 might be useful to you. Just follow the links to the tutorial.

  • Can I install both Snow Leopard and Windows 7 on the same version of VMWare 5?

Even though I am running Apple OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.3 on my new 2013 iMac, I have just installed VMWare's "Fusion 5" so I can have Windows 7 installed on the "Fusion 5, for limited usage needs.
I also would like to have a running version of Snow Leopard available to run my large collection of original Lynda.com training DVD's and CD's ... which unfortunately, now only allow the Lynda.com GUI player to operate in (and up to) Snow Leopard (at least this is what the Tech folks at Lynda.com have told me).
Since Lynda.com is no longer producing any or their training programs on CD or DVD any longer, and because they have stopped supporting their training programs to run on Lion and above, I will have to have a version of Snow Leopard installed to run these training programs, and still be able to run them using the Lynda.com GUI player.
    So here's my dilemma:
    1.  Can I install both a version of Snow Leopard OS on my "VMWare "Fusion 5" .... along with a running version of Windows 7 on       the same "Fusion 5"?
    2.  Do I install only the Windows 7 on the VMWare, and find some other "device" to run a version of Snow Leopard off of?
    3.  Do I consider using "BootCamp", in conjunction with "Fusion 5", to get access to both Snow Leopard and Windows 7?
Has anyone had any experience installing BOTH a previous (older) version of Apple OSX  ... AND ... a Windows OS version on one installed version of VMWare "Fusion"?
    OR
Any suggestions on how to set up having access to both Snow Leopard and Windows 7 .... while keeping OS Mountain Lion as my main OS?

Thanks ... the "You have to purchase Snow Leopard Server" I knew about, and a few days ago I just ordered a copy from the Apple Store:
    Snow Leopard Server - Ordered at: 1-800-692-7753 ... OR ... 1-866-254-8313
I asked for Apple Snow Leopard Server (Model MC588Z/A (SLSVR)
    "Unlimited Client License"
It was around $25.50 (USD) with sales tax and shipping (NYS).
One thing though ... when you mention:  "you should make two virtual machines".
Not being too familiar with "Fusion 5" yet, Is setting up "two machine" all done under one installed version of "Fusion 5"?
Would you have "links" to any "Fusion 5" installation instructions/info for setting up the
"two machines" (one for Snow Leopard and one for Windows 7)?

  • Does the video adapter output both S-Video and Composite simultaneously?

I have a multi-zone receiver which converts S-Video to component for the main zone and passes S-Video signals through to zone 2 but does not convert them to composite which is how that zone is set up. I solved a similar problem with my DVD player by connecting both the component output and composite output of the DVD player to the receiver allowing high quality viewing in the lounge room and passable viewing in the bedroom.
I realise the quality from the adapter is questionable particularly for composite but I'm still interested if both S-Video and composite signals are output from the MBP 17" via the adapter simultanesouly.
    Thanks,
    Max.

I have a follow-up question which may help answer the original question. Does the MBP have to detect the external display when connected via S-Video/Composite in the same way that it has to when connected via DVI? My Dell notebook had so much trouble detecting composite and S-Video connections that eventually I gave up so I'm a little "once bitten twice shy" on this. If the MBP doesn't attempt to detect the external display via S-Video or composite then it must output both S-Video and Composite signals continuously (which would be great).
    Thanks,
    Max.

  • Dvd keeps ejecting during multiplexing and burning in idvd

Ok, I realize a lot of other people have had this problem and somehow managed to resolve it. I have done a lot of reading and experimenting but so far NOTHING has worked. So, to recount everything that I have tried and all the details to this problem:
First of all, I would like to mention that I have successfully burned a number of DVDs in idvd in the past. Then suddenly it just stopped working.
I have run a verify/ repair disk permissions. I have deleted all the idvd files off my computer, the .plist and preferences file, restarted, and reinstalled iDVD TWICE with a custom install. I have 500 gb of free space on my boot drive. I used a cleaning disc on my SuperDrive, and my regular DVD player. I switched to a better brand of blank dvd. I am now using Sony DVD-r, 4.7 gb discs although memorex DVD+r always worked just fine before. The project I am burning fits on the disc. I am not using chapters. I tried turning on the tv safe area and made sure everything was inside it, but still the same problem. I tried booting up in safe-mode then restarting. Still, same issue. I am burning at 2x speed, using professional quality setting. The project preview works just fine. It goes through the whole idvd process just fine, until the burning and multiplexing. After burning about 10 minutes of the project, the disc ejects suddenly. Idvd says "done" but then at the bottom it says "about one minute left" and the little burning wheel symbol is still spinning. The disc plays fine in my DVD player till about ten minutes in, then freezes and eventually goes back to the main menu. I can see on the disc that it is only partially burned.
Oh, and I have also tried saving to a disc image and burning with toast and disc utility. Once, this actually did work with toast and resulted in a playable DVD. The weird part was that I still got the error sense key message in toast and thought I had made another coaster, but when I tested the DVD it worked fine in my regular dvd player only (it was not readable in my xbox or ps2). Since that one fluke, however, it hasn't been successful. Disk utility did not work for burning the disc image. I am absolutely at a loss here...somebody PLEASE help.

I believe I have finally fixed the problem but I am going to post what I went through just in case someone else ever runs into these same issues, maybe I can save them some time. I went through so much troubleshooting and each problem solved seemed to result in new problems, so, let me recap.
First, computer was working fine. Burned a DVD, it worked. Then a few days later, tried to burn another DVD. It didn't work. I tried different brands of discs, different types of discs, (-r and +r) sometimes there was a partial burn, sometimes no luck at all and an unusable, unplayable disc. The disc would eject early during the burning phase, giving me simultaneous contradictory messages that it was both "done" and had " about one minute left".
I tried running a verify/ repair disk permissions. Everything came out fine, but still no burned DVDs. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling idvd. I tried a cleaning disc. Still no go. Sometimes idvd would crash or freeze on me or give me error messages. Result varied depending on what i tried, but were never good.
Then I bought an external drive and tried saving my DVD project as a disc image and burning with toast as many people have suggested. This worked! So, I concluded that my SuperDrive was faulty but I'm not going to bother getting it replaced right now because the external works just fine. I thought my problem was finally solved, but then...
I noticed that upon restarting, my computer would display a white-gray screen as is normal, with the familiar apple symbol, but now a new addition: a very annoying loading bar that took 5-10 minutes to load. Unacceptable!!! Also, I noticed shortly after that iTunes did not work. It wouldn't even open, but crashed due to an error and asked if it could send a report. I tried deleting and uninstalling iTunes but that didn't work.
I ran another verify disc permissions with disc utility, and I got a very bad error message. It said there were errors on the drive and it could not be repaired and it said I needed to start up from the Mac OS X install disc and use disc utility to repair the volume. Problem with that...my install disc says it can't install on this computer. I soon learned from one (finally) helpful apple support guy that the reason for this was that I am running snow leopard 10.6.8 and the disc that came with my computer was for 10.5.2 or something.
On a side note: I had called apple support before and specifically asked if the reason the disc didn't work was because it was for a different version and the guy said he had no idea if that was the reason or not. Jerk. CLEARLY, that was the reason and my ignorant butt didn't know any better and he wanted me to pay 19.99 just to answer that question for me.
So, I went to the apple store and purchased snow leopard. It was delivered today, I started my computer from the new snow leopard disc and repaired my drive. Restarted. A bit slow restarting but no more loading bar and not as bad as before...iTunes still didn't work but I completely uninstalled a reinstalled it again and this time it seems to be working fine. Idvd is working, I saved another movie to disc might. And am assuming it will still burn fine with toast in the external drive.
During my arduous troubleshooting I discovered that I most probably have the seagate 1 tb hard drive that was recalled by apple due to its tendency to fail...whether this has been the root of my computer's troubles from the start, I still don't know for sure. But, everything seems to be functioning correctly now at least and since my computer has lasted this long without hard drive failures, maybe it will be ok. It's possible that I somehow caused the errors while I was fiddling around on the computer trying to fix idvd and iTunes. Hope this is helpful to somebody, someday. I did gain a lot of advice from various forums on the web and found many people having one or more of the issues I was running into, so I thought I should record my process here for others as well.

  • I have a DVD-Rom and DVD-Video card for Powerbook and need advice

I acquired 2 accessory components for a G3 series powerbook. I have a dual G4 so have no use for them. There is a M4743 DVD-Rom for Powerbook and a DVD-Video PC card for G3 series Powerbook family M5163. There is also a software CD. I would like to sell them but I really don’t how to explain what this stuff does. I tried Ebay and did not find any matches. Does this make a DVD upgrade for a particular Powerbook? Is something else required? Is Ebay the best place to sell? Any idea what this stuff is worth? Any advice would be greatly appreciated
    Bob

    Robert,
You apparently have the DVD Video Player Kit for the Powerbook G3 Series "Wallstreet" M4753.
    This is the DVD-ROM module:
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/xcart1/customer/product.php?productid=16219&cat=26 6&page=1
This is the DVD Decoder PC card:
    http://www.ifixit.com/cart/customer/product.php?productid=296&cat=&page=1
The above DVD PC card is not Apple's but there were two third-party vendors who also offered a DVD kit...VST and MCE. They all served the same purpose and will all be priced similarly.
Both PC card and optical drive are required to play DVD movies on the Wallstreet, plus Apple DVD Player is only supported when booted to 9.x, not 10.x.
I really cannot give you a fair price to ask; the above hardware prices are probably high but you will get an idea.

  • Is QT DVD Player different on Windows and MAC?

I have both Mac and PC computers. QT 7.1.3 is installed on both. I can view both commercial (Hollywood) and non-commercial mp2 content on the Mac but not the PC. Can anyone tell me what the difference is and why?

Is QT DVD Player different on Windows and MAC?
There is no such thing as a QT DVD Player. On the Mac there is a QT Player which does not play DVDs and there is a DVD Player which does. You are probably trying to compare the DVD Player on the Mac with the QT Player on the PC here.

  • What's the best way to make a DVD that has a slideshow and home movies?

Is is better to make a slideshow on iphoto, then transfer it somehow to imovie, then add my home movies?  I'm new to Mac, so I don't want to get too into this project without advice.  Is there a way to make a slideshow in imovie and then add my movies?

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico:  http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie  as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, including adding other video clips, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast,  for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!
To simply create a slide show in iDVD 7 onwards from images in iPhoto or stored in other places on your hard disk or a connected server, look here:

  • Cant make content look clean on  both the tv and the computer

i am using final cut hd and am having a problem. i am using it to edit together a slide show for a buisness dvd. i am making the slides in photoshop at 720 by 480 at 72dpi. after i export the video as an mpeg2 and make a dvd in dvdsp it looks clean and crips on a television but looks a little fuzzy on a computer monitor. is this a problem with my reolution in photoshop or could it be from final cut.
    does anyone know?
    any help is greatly appreciated.

If his originals are stills there is no advantage to deinterlacing, surely, as there is no "interlacing" in photoshop graphics files.
It just looks sharper on your TV because the TV's resolution matches your image resolution, whereas your computer monitor resolution is much higher. All SD video looks fuzzier on computer monitors, whether interlaced or progressive.
If your show is to be shown on a TV, trust your TV monitor. If it's to be shown on computers (and consists mainly of photoshop generated stills), you don't have to use DV resolution -- you could scan and work at a standard computer monitor resolution, say 800x600 or so.
If you want to create for both computer display AND TV, you could consider working at the higher resolution and downconverting to DV resolution for the TV version.
Having said all that, if you work at DV resolution only, you should still be able to get good results on a computer display, unless you're doing something seriously wrong. But it's never going to look as sharp.
    Best of luck/

  • Satellite P205D-S7802 - DVD drive shows as D: and the CD shows as C

I have a Satellite P205D-S7802. The DVD drive shows as D: and the CD shows as C: Should both be D?
Neither works but the DVD was the last to do so.
If they should both be D: how do I change it?
My system is Vista 32 bit.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi mate
In my Computer you should see the HDD and CD /DVD drive.
Usually the HDD or the partition of the HDD is listed as C and the CD/DVD drive should be listed as D or other letter.
Everything depends on partition created on the HDD because every partition is assigned to an certain letter.
However, the letters can be changed in disk management of Windows OS.
Right click on My Computer -> manage -> disk management
Here you can change the letters.
    Regarding the CD/DVD drive:
I recommend removing the CD/DVD drive from the device manager list.
Simple delete it and reboot the unit.
After new reboot, then OS should recognize the ODD again

    Hi,
SAP Standard Report itself covers all the requirements mentioned.  With FBL5N, we get to know how much has been invoiced, paid and cleared and how much advance has been paid by customer etc., in one screen.  Apart from this we have also all signs which show, which all invoices are due, overdue and its easy to analyse as well.
Was this requirement given by client after seeing this standard report?
    Hope this info is helpful.

  • Run report that show "BOTH" campaign name AND contact when getting integration error message that relates to Lead Campaign Association

When running an External Calls Failed report for Lead Campaign Association (e.g.Attempted to add a campaign member where either the member id 00Q70000015ngo5 or the campaign id null is null.), the report show me the contact but not the campaign the contact was trying to associate itself to in SFDC.  In order to see the campaign, I have to click on the downward arrow and click on the "view external call details" FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL CONTACT.
