DVD buring with a LaCie

I had bought a DVD burner for my wifes iBook which I have used off and on with it no problem.
Its a LaCie FireWire DVD+- 16x4x12 4 x dvd+R double layer.
We have had a few updates on the OS and now we are at 10.4.8. and sometime before this it had stopped working.
Today I tried again.
I updated the burning with the LaCieProfile_Mar2007.dmg and yet it continues not to burn. It gets to the point of wanting to burn and says "Burning disc failed because of commnication to the disc drive failed (Error code 0x80020022)
I can't make it work as I have fix permissions and have rebooted it, and it is recognized by the System Profiler and it says that is has Bur Support "Yes (Vendor Supported)
Any suggestions on what needs to be tweaked to make this work again?
Thanks.

just doesn't work and no responses so I am closing this.......thanks anyway.

This is not a Final Cut Express related topic. You're more likely to find LaCie DVD burner users on forums like iDVD and DVD Studio Pro.

  • Using Lacie DVD enclosure with new HDD : Will it work ?

May be a silly question. Seems that my Lacie Firewire 400 External DVD burner with a 7.5 " enclosure is no longer working. Should I decide to buy an External Drive
for my Powermac G4. Will I encounter any difficulties installing the drive ?
    Comments welcome.

With FireWire, you may not have any problems, but there's always the possibility that the bridge board in the enclosure isn't programmed for use with a hard drive (fixed media). An optical drive is classified as a removable media device. I tried connecting a hard drive to the bridge board from a Sony DVD burner enclosure with FireWire/USB 2.0 connectivity, but it wasn't recognized. Try it - you won't damage anything, but make sure the hard drive is configured as "master" and not the factory default of "cable select."

  • Burning iDVD projects with external LaCie burner

I recently purchased a LaCie DL d2 DVD RW with LightScribe 16x from LaCie (12/07/2007). The primary reason for my purchase was that I wished to create/burn iDVD projects on my iMac computer. The reason that I needed this product was due to the fact that, when I purchased my iMac, I made an error and ordered the iMac with a combo rather than SuperDrive. So, while I am able to create iDVD projects and iMovies, I am unable to burn DVDs with my project.
Thus far, however, I have not been able to burn a DVD with any of my products. When I attempt a “burn” the Creating your DVD menu appears and when I put in a blank DVD+RW 4x 4/7GB, it goes through the process (Prepare,,, Process Menus... Process Slideshows... Process Movies and Burn procedures). The DVD is then ejected and a message says its done and is “cleaning up.” However, that message never leaves the screen and when I click on the “Cancel” button, nothing happens. The iDVD application seems to lock up and I have to do a “force quit.”
I have tried this with three different project, all with the same result. When I place the supposed “burn” DVD in the Combo Drive, it spins for a while and kicks the DVD out.
I have also tried launching Toast Titanium (software that came with the LaCie burner). However, I see no place where I can “drag & drop” a iDVD product to the “drop zone.’
Can you help me out. Should I be able to burn iDVD projects with this unit? If so, what am I doing wrong.
Thanks for any help that you can provide.

  • DVD Studio Pro and LaCie D2 Drives (Error #6)

I saw this topic pop up in January and it was archvied before a solution had been posted. I too receive Error #6 when attempting to burn DVD's to the LaCie D2 Firewire Lightscribe drive... not just in DVD Studio Pro, but also in the brand new version of iDVD. I am able to burn the disc images from Toast 7 on the same drive with no problem.
This is not an isolated case. I'm quite sure of that now.
    Apple? Anyone?

    Hi:
    Have you tried PatchBurn?
    Hope that helps !

  • Burning iDVD to DVD disc with i Book G4 combo drive and external DVD drive

7/6/2006. After much recent experimentation with iLife, iMovie and iDVD, I found how to use themes and set up movies in my iBook G4 purchased two years ago near Chicago (updated to OS 10.3.9). To burn an iDVD file to a DVD disc on a "combo drive" (that is, it has no DVD writer drive) iBook or other comparable Mac, go to File on the top horizontal tool bar and down there to "burn to DiscImage." Depending on the size of the file, it will take about four hours for every hour of movie file to encode it. I just set it up that night, went to bed and woke up the next morning with it finished. Once encoded, it doesn't need to be encoded again and can be used in the future. But Toast 7 Titanium will not burn it to an external DVD writer as "video." but it will burn the video file as "data." And pretty fast. The 'data' file still remains a video file and will do everything the video file does, only now from an external round DVD disc, too. I discovered this by accident, although Matt (tech support) reminded me about DiscImage. Later, David (also in tech support) told me to download newer versions of iDVD and iMovie, but that did not work, nor had he ever tried it. Remember for a combo drive and using iDVD, and also iMovie, under File burn to DiscImage and save on an external disc as "data." My external DVD write is by LaCie. Best wishes. Like altero said, you're not using Toast properly... Follow these directions:
Suggest you create a disc image from iDVD and then burn the DVD. In iDVD: File/Save as Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • Playing dual layer dvd's with iBook superdrive

I've burned a couple of dual layer DVD's (8.5GB) with my iBook G4 and an external Lacie DVD burner.
I used Toast 7, experiencing no problems at all.
The DVD's play perfectly using the Lacie driver itself, or my Sony DVD player, or even a 10-year-old Pioneer DVD drive on my PC.
But... my iBook Superdrive refused to even read them.
The disk just makes a couple of turns and then the superdrive ejects it with no message.
The superdrive plays perfectly the commercial dvd's, which I know are usually double layered.
Does that mean that superdrive is not compatible with burned dual layer dvd's?
    iBook G4; iPod 60GB v1.2.1; iTunes 6; Airport Xpress Mac OS X (10.4.4)
    iBook G4; iPod 60GB v1.2.1; iTunes 6; Airport Xpress   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I don't believe the SuperDrive for the iBook is set
up to read/write the dual layer DVD's.
I didn't expect it to write DL DVD's, that's why I used an external burner.
The problem is when reading the burned dvds
Go to your Apple Menu and select "about this mac".
Click on the "more info" button and navigate to the
    Disc Burning label. Select it.
If your SD is dual layer compatible you'll see "+R
    DL".
It says generically that SD reads DVDs
What speed were you burning the Dual DVD's on the
    LaCie?
don't know, really, but Toast is set to burn disks at the best speed:
    one was a DL DVD+R 8x, the other a DL DVD-R 4x
it's IMPOSSIBLE that SD can't read dual layer DVDs: commercial DVDs are 6-7GB, they MUST be DL and they play perfectly.
and if it really can't play burned DL DVDs, that's really a shame! >:-Z

  • Mac Pro unable to mount etc. blank cd / dvd but reads cd's/DVD's with data

First ... sorry my bad English!
My Mac Pro is unable to mount blank cd's/dvd's but can read+mount cd's/dvd's with data??
It happends with my internal drive and with my Lacie external drive so it is not "hardware" problem.
I think this started after uppdates (security etc.)
    I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.4.
But still I'm able to burn with my Toast software cd's dvd's although cds are not mounted???or seen in finder???
    -SsoundD

Start the program you are using to burn the discs, and when you are about to burn them, it will tell you to insert a blank CD/DVD to be burned.
Mac OS X cannot mount Blank CD/DVD, since it does not have any Mac File Structures on it.

  • Recording fios tv to DVD recorder with tivo/fios cablecard

ok this post is for my dad....and if ur thinking why the hack does he want a dvd recorder when they already have a tivo...don't ask my dad is kinda weird he still "tapes" shows on VHS tapes using vcr, and tapes radio shows on cassettes....then again he also still pyas his bills with a pen, a check and the us postal service.....
anyway, I didn't know much about the world of dvd recorders before a couple days ago, so I have a few questions before and if I actually decide to get him one.
Question 1: we currently have an HD TV with an HD tivo connected and a multistream verizon fios cablecard. My question is regarding copyright limitations....what prevents you from just recording any tv program onto dvd, as you still can onto a VHS? and what percentage of the channels/shows have this protection? like would he only be able to record from the original 12 or so broadcast channels? this is my main concern....he watched a lot of the sports channels like espn espn2 golf channel nbatv etc....
Question 2: also, when doing my research I thought of another benefit a dvd recorder may have. I have been putting all the family home videos which are on vhs onto dvd, but it's a bit of a process. I use an external usb capture device made by Hauppage hooked up to the VCR then the computer captures it realtime and generates an mpeg video file on my hard drive, THEN I have to spend the 1 or 2 hours it takes to convert to DVD format and burn with Nero so it can be played on a regular DVD player......so....question being....
can a standalone DVD recorder hook up to a VCR to transfer video direct to a DVD, or do you have to buy a DVD recorder with a built in VHS deck?
Question 3: oh and someone once told me that you can only play the recorded DVD's on the recorder, and not other regular DVD players...I couldn't believe this was actually true...but was he right?
    TIA!

    Answers:
Question 1: if the DVD recorder is connected to the TIVO there shouldn't be anything prohibiting him from recording. The signal sent out from the TIVO is an unencrypted feed that can be processed by anything (TV, VCR, DVD recorder, ETC). As long as theres no restrictions within the DVD recorder itself, you should be fine to record anything. This also means you have to record realtime (press play on TIVO and record on the DVD recorder and wait the amount of time for the event to end before pressing stop)
Question 2: You would need to talk to the tech support for your DVD recorder. Its going to depend on what types of video streams and formats it will accept as a source
Question 3nce again this is a question for the DVD recorder tech support, not Verizon. It depends on the file format that the recorder saevs the file as. Not only that, but different players also can read different formats. So you have to take a look at the recorder and the dvd play back device

  • Looking for a DVD Player with same functionality as CyberPro Power DVD

I have just converted from PC to Mac, and love it, but have a special requirement and need some guidance.
I work in TV and need to be able to preview footage shot on site that has been converted onto a DVD. On my old PC using Power DVD, after hitting 'Play' I can fast forward and fast reverse, and increase the speed of FF or FR in small increments (up to 32 times normal speed) using the scroll wheel on my mouse. That gives me a lot of control as I search through countless hours of footage to shot list, and saves heaps of time.
With the standard Mac DVD Player, I can hold down the FF and FR buttons to get a slight increase in speed, but it is still far too slow and clumsy for what I need.
VLC was recommended, but when I hold down the FF and FR it scrolls in minutes, whereas I need to scroll in frames.
Does anybody know of a high quality DVD Player with the scrolling features similar to Power DVD that I can purchase?

    Have you tried, +DVD Player>Controls>Scan Rate+ ?

  • DVD menu title selection on DVD player with DVD's burn from iDVD

Regarding DVDs burned with iDVD 6.0.3, I have burned multiple DVDs with 6 buttons on the main menu page each of which links to a short film. On the menu screen when I push the right arrow button on the DVD remote not all the menu buttons light up. In addition to pushing the right arrow button on the remote, I have to push the up or down arrow button on the remote (to the DVD player hooked up to the TV) to get to some of the buttons in my DVD menu to be selectable. The buttons are arranged by me in a grid sort of pattern. Is there a way in iDVD I can get all the buttons to be selectable using only the right or left arrow keys on the DVD player remote? Do you understand what I am asking?

    Hi powerbookaid
And welcome to apple discussions. It's actually difficult to find standalone versions on ebay and CL / Apple's FCP and DVDSP. I found them myself but it took me a very long time. Not always something you can do overnight. But if you are very patient something will show up eventually.
If you need something now that works (although I advise caution as in backup your dvd or video_TS first) then consider this app for much less money (donationware):

  • No audio on dvd burned with idvd6

Relevant software: Mac OS 10.4.11, iMovie 6.0.3, iDvd 6.0.3
Problem: No audio on dvd burned with iDvd
What happened: Created movie in iMovie (audio and video fine). Shared to iDvd (audio and video fine on playback). Burned Dvd. No audio on dvd but video is fine.
    What I did:
    1. Saved as disc file. Opened with VLC and DVD Player. No audio, video fine.
    2. Deleted encoded assets in iDvd then 1 (above).
    3. Removed non-Apple extensions in Library/Quicktime. Then 2 and 1 (above).
I've read other discussions about this same issue and followed those recommendations as well as that in the article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303550.
Clearly I'm missing something. But, what is it? Anyone have any suggestions?

i too am having the same problems with iDVD 6.0.4. I just ended up wasting 5 hours of time burning these damned DVDs... what was really strange is that the first DVD I burned was a dual-layer, and I checked that one on a set-top DVD player and it worked fine. I then needed 5 more copies of the DVD, so I simply inserted a fresh dual-layer DVD into the drive at iDVD's prompt of 'Would you like to burn this disc again?'.
Assuming that they would all be fine since the first one was fine, I simply burned 5 more DVDs. Only now, checking them after I've wasted a godawful amount of time burning them, do I find that they're all f#$ked. Thanks apple.
Crap like this makes me steamed. My PC burning software doesn't have nearly the same simple, elegant interface as iDVD, but it also lacks this CATASRTOPHIC problem. I mean, dual layer DVDs are relatively pricey... so screw apple. i will be glad to go home to my PC after being forced to work with this junky, buggy software.

  • CD or DVD Sharing with new Mac Air on LION!

I was thinking that I would be able to put in audio CD I was going to be able to watch it.  If I put a cd I get the following error:  The operation can't be completed because the original item for "Audio CD" can't be found.
I also trie to play a DVD. With the DVD I am able to open the DVD and look into the files but it won't play the movie.
The Apple Genius stated that this is how the CD or DVD Sharing works.  It was not intended for you to you to play an audio cd from another computer or watch a DVD from another computer.
Do you guys agree with this?

    Hi Richard!
    Thanks for your response!
I have now bought Data Rescue II from ProSoft:
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/datarescueinfo.php
It seems that the problem is my external harddrive and not the machine. I get read errors when I try to open projects in Photoshop / Indesign etc.
There are of course companies that can retrieve my data, but thats like my last solution cause they cost loads of money
Hoping that Data Rescue can clone my data to this new hd. The process seems to be taking days... 165.2 hours left and it has been working for two days now
