DVD burn image remains after unburnt dvd ejected

I was burning photos to a DVD but the process failed [bad disk] so it was ejected unburnt and is now recycled plastic.  The Finder now has no way to remove this icon in the side bar or in Disk Utility without reinserting the missing disk.  Is there a way round this?  Disk Utility itself seems unable to assist, nor 'Help'.  The Superdrive still accepts other disks to read or burn, so is working OK.  Cheers, Bill

Hey, i think if there could be any of the possibilities you talk about, it might have been a naming error. All files i created had the same name in the new project as in the old one. But i used 1 asset arrow that i copy pasted from a library button "Red facets button" and shift pasted on my own buttons as highlight (paste sub picture). In the first project i did not do this as a straight forward thing, a lot of deleting and adding because i had never done it before and there might have happened something with the naming of the arrow i pasted. I used the same arrow in the second project but without messing with delete, paste all the time. But some how there is no problems now, just something wrong with the last project file =S
Not so important:
I also noticed while building the new project i once got an "General error", not sure why but happened after a random crash. And 2 get rid of it i had to delete the menu and make it again (i could not edit anything in the menu without getting the error). I rebuild the menu and had another crash when exiting the program, because i thought my computer needs to boot after 2 days online. When i reopened the project i got "General error" in the menu again, but after some clicking it didn't show up (random). Finally i got my project setup and everything works, i did the copy past as sub picture as a straight forward thing.

  • No songs burned on cd after cd is ejected

No songs show up on the cd after burning. I burned a cd this morning without a problem, went to burn one a few minutes later( same brand) and I got this message after cd was finalized. You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OS X can read. To continue with disk inserted, click ignore. I have tried different playlists shut down Itunes rebooted the computer. Nothing changed still the same problem. Cd shows zero memory used, but cd can't be used again because it's not blank. I can burn these song on my windows computer just no the mac. I have latest version of Itunes 6.0.5 Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I didn’t articulate the situation properly, although you do have the correct problem. Here’s what I do to make a CD (Yes, it is a regular CD-R CD). First, I have a stand alone CD recorder. I record the songs I want from my stereo to the CD recorder using a rewrite CD. I do this because the songs go through my graphic equalizer, which enhances the sound that I like. Then, I import the re-writable CD to my iTUNES using my CD/DVD bay in my PC. Once imported, they show up as track numbers. I then input the track names and artists, after which I burn the final CD. It’s after the CD is burned, the tracks and artists still come out as they were before I had input the information. I’m using the same CD bay on my computer to burn the songs as I am when I try to read the finished CD. Shouldn’t the names so up if I use the same bay? I did double check, and the “include CD Text” box is selected. Any other suggestions? Thanks. Gregg

  • Image remains after closing window.

    Hi!
I just purchased my first LCD display (23" Apple) and I immediately noticed an anomaly. When I have a window open, such as mail, after closing, the image of the window remains faintly on the desk top. I can even read the title of the last email etc. The image slowly fades away and disappears but it's somewhat unnerving. An image even remained from the previous user after I switched.
Is this common? Just a "thing" that LCDs do? After all the hype about xboxes burning in on plasma TVs, I'm a little paranoid.
Thanks to all for your advice and council !
    Jeff

    Hey Jeff -
I had a problem with my 23 ghosting a good while back, but I changed the desktop and I haven't noticed it since, I have read of others mentioning the problem, try searching this folder for "ghost".
This document has some information but from reading posts in the past I suspect the ghosting is partially a hardware issue and some monitors of the same model have it worse than others.

    Hi David
Welcome to apple discussions. I see this is your first post to this forum.
Please provide us with more details. Tell us as much as you can about the iMac and what you currently have connected to it. (you may wish to add these facts to your apple user profile. It helps us troubleshoot better).
Do you have at least 20GB's of available hard drive space on the boot volume?
What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?
Have you tried disposing of iDvd's preference file / plist?
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
Have you repaired permissions from apple's disc utility?
Have you tried setting up a separate user account and attempting to burn the iDvd project from the new account?
Tell us what exactly you are trying to burn to dvd and what the source of the video is. If it's footage from a camera / camcorder then please include the model number of the camcorder and how you have it connected to your iMac.
Lastly, please include the brand of media you are currently using.

  • DVD burning not working after upgrading to 10.5.1

    Hi,
I just purchased a macbook and found that dvd burning stopped working after upgrading to mac os 10.5.1. I went back to 10.5 and now it works without problems. Since so far I haven't experience problems with 10.5, I will continue using it.
Anyway, I just wanted to let other users know about this problem. I didn't find any references about it in the forum.
    Best wishes,
    Manuel

    Hi,
I just got DVD burning to work under 10.5.1. I had originally formatted the OS-X partition as "case sensitive". Today I reformatted the partition as a regular Mac-os journaled partition, re-installed leopard and the upgrade, and now DVD burning works fine. I am not 100% sure, but it seems that using the case sensitive format caused the problem.

  • Dvd ejects during burning in iDVD

Near the end of burning a iDVD slideshow to the DVD the DVD ejects. What's wrong?

iDVD SlideShow function is limited to 99 photos PER SlideShow. You can have several of then (up to 99 too)
But I rather use another tool
    • Video editor as FinalCut as I here have 100% controll
    • Not iMovie'08 to 11 as they can not deliver what iDVD needs - interlaced SD-Video - but discard every second line in the picture resulting in a big quality loss.
    • iMovie HD6 - delivers
    • FotoMagico™ (included in Roxio Toast™ Pro bundle)
And note: That DVD created with any program is just as standard: interlaced SD-Video
Feeding iDVD HD material will not improve the final DVD result but degrades it due to Bad downscaling.

  • My iMac will not recognize a blank DVD-R that I am trying to burn. It also won't eject unless I "shut down"

My iMac will not recognize a blank DVD-R that I am trying to burn. It also won't eject unless I "shut down" and restart while holding down the mouse button. Anyone have any remedies?

I ran into a similar (identical?) problem.  I inserted a DVD-R and my imac would not recognize it.  The only way to eject was to do a restart.  I tried some of the SMC reset stuff.  That didn't work.  I came across another thread on macrumors (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=336501)
    that solved my problem.
I have an external Western Digital Passport drive that I use for timecapsule.  It turns out
there are two files that WD adds to the /Library/LaunchDaemons that interferes with the
SuperDrive.  I removed the WD files from the LaunchDaemons directory and everything works fine
now.  Again, refer to the macrumors thread for more details.
The files I removed from the LaunchDaemons directory were:
    com.wdc.WDDMservice.plist
    com.wdc.WDSmartWareServer.plist
..yes I had installed the WD backup software to see if I liked it....I did not, but didn't realize this files would cause a conflict with the SuperDrive.

  • Blank dvds eject and no icon after installing mavericks

I have a late 2008 (aluminum) 13 inch Macbook and recently installed the new OSX Mavericks. I wanted to put some pics onto a dvd. Inserting a new blank DVD (tried more than one DVD), the internal drive sounds like it is trying to play/open the DVD ( no icon shows on desktop) ,then a window pops up asking for password. After putting in password, hit ENTER. The DVD ejects immediately. Looked into -System Preference - CD/DVD check settings nothing corrects problem. When I put a pre-recorded DVD (movie) Icon comes up and it will play the movie.
    Does anyone have any suggestions\
    Thanks DJ

    Hi,
Insert a blank CD and boot up your Mac. When it boots to the Desktop, drag that CD icon to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.

    Hi,
Can you please tell us your operating system and why you want to burn them to CD.
For example, on a Windows system, if you just want to save a copy of the images to CD then you could use the organizer. Select the images you want to copy, go to the File menu and select Copy/Move to Removable Drive. Do NOT check the Move option as this would the remove the images from the hard drive.

  • Safari Prevents DVD Eject

I created a DVD which has some basic html data on it. It seems that if this html is accessed by Safari, it then become impossible to eject the DVD normally. I can narrow it down specifically to Safari (I'm using Version 5.1 (6534.50)). If I merely mount the DVD and do nothing, I can eject without any problem. Also, if I browse the content in Firefox, the disk will eject fine. But the second I load up the web page in Safari, the DVD locks. Even after quitting Safari entirely, I will still get a message upon attempted eject: The disk "disk name" wasn't ejected because one or more programs may be using it. Again - I know Safari is the culprit because when other other programs are in use, the DVD ejects fine. It only becomes a problem after I launch Safari. Once locked, my only remedies are either to force eject the DVD or restart.
For what it's worth, I created this DVD using Toast 10 Titanium. It's a hybrid Mac/ISO data DVD. The Mac side of it has some custom data: custom background image, icons, "blessed" to auto-open uopn mount. Is there anything else I should do so that it plays nicely with Safari?
    Thanks for any help.

Do you have any Safari extentions?

  • XFCE4: cd/dvd ejected but icon perists on desktop

    Hi,
Every now an again when I use nerolinux (3.5) after I have ejected a cd/dvd the disc icon persists on the desktop, with the label of the ejected disc.
If I load up another cd/dvd then a new icon appears on the desktop with the correct disc label, but the old 'zombie' icon points to the same disc and I can unmount/mount from that ghost icon.
Any ideas how i refresh hal | gamin | udev to get rid of the ghost icon. Is there a way to just refresh the desktop so xfce4.6 sees that the disc has been removed.
    Thanks for any help.

You should be able to just refresh the desktop by hitting f5 while on the desktop itself.

  • DVD ejected before completed

I am trying to burn a DVD movie that I made on iMovie onto a DVD-R using iDVD. I get to the "multiplexing and burning" stage when the DVD is ejected. Nothing displays on the screen, it looks like it is continuing to burn. There is nothing burned onto the DVD. Does anyone know what the problem might be? I am not getting an error message or anything, just the DVD ejecting without the movie completed.

I think Snow Leopard is the problem.
    A: might be on a G5....
Question: Isn't snow leopard intended mainly (if not exclusively) for intel macs?
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC223
"Snow Leopard is an upgrade for Leopard users and requires a Mac with an Intel processor."
The above may also help address your concerns on the following thread also. But if not just come on back:

  • Help!  'Leopard CPU Drop-in DVD' Ejecting on Brand new macbook pro

Hey everyone. I just recieved my highly anticipated Macbook Pro that came preinstalled with OSX 10.4.10. I haven't installed anything yet because i am wanting to install Leopard first. The computer came with the 'Mac OS X Leopard - CPU Drop-in DVD'. After I put the dvd in i have tried to install it 4 different ways. One, just by double clicking the 'Install Mac OS X.app' icon (i've actually tried this about 4 times). Second, I tried to install it by using the Leopard DVD as the start-up disc as described in the 'troubleshooting leopard' doc online. Thirdly, I tried (three times) to restart the computer with the DVD in while holding 'C' down. And finally, my last attempt i installed the Tiger discs thinking that might do it...after i installed Tiger which was already preinstalled on the computer, I repeated the above mentioned methods...and everytime the dvd gets ejected on the restart...a couple seconds after the 'apple logo' appears on bootup...then, the 'not working' icon (circle with the diagonal line through it like 'no smoking' logo) appears.
help!!! i'm anxious to get Leopard running!!!! i've been dreaming about this computer for about 3 years now.
    any help is appreciated!!!

ok...i'm not sure how at all...but, a couple hours have passed since i posted this and while i was hoping someone would reply i was finishing up some old work on my old, extremely slow emac. anyways, i decided to go ahead and try to install leopard again from the normal standard method. (which is just clicking the icon once the leopard install window comes up). Guess what? now it's 50% into the installation!! i don't want to count my chickens before they hatch...especially after some of the discussions i've read about leopard so far...but, i'm hopeful
who knows how...i'm clueless and it doesn't make much sense to me. but, i'll come back and let anyone who cares know how the install went.
note for anyone with similar problems:
another strange fix to the 'leopard dvd ejecting on install' is to let the dvd chill in the drive for a couple hours...then try it again. HAHAHAHAHA!!!! worked for me

  • T420 DVD eject button - terrible placement; driving me insane

Every time I pick the laptop up or am laptopping in bed I am constantly hitting the DVD eject botton on the T420.  This is my 10th ThinkPad over the years and have never had this problem.
I'd even prefer a blank to fill the slot  or a battey option than have it the way it is now.
Is there a way to disable this button or be able to lock it with some kind of driver that can sis in the systray?
Can Lenovo give us a new optical drive?

Hmmm ... I think I gotta drop by a Think shop to test it for myself too
ColonelONeill, did the DVD rom eject when you hold the sides of the laptop? It does not "curve" in like the previous models?
