DVD burn off synch

I'm stumped. I edited together four video clips on Final Cut Pro. Exported that as a Quick Time Movie. Then imported that QT Movie into an iDVD project. Everything looks great when played on FCP... looks great when played as a QT movie... looks great when Previewed in iDVD. But when I actually burn this to a DVD, then view the DVD, THE FOURTH CLIP STARTS PLAYING FIRST WITH THE AUDIO FROM THE FIRST CLIP THAT SHOULD BE THERE! I've retraced every step along the way. I have re-saved, re-exported and re-imported everything. Again, it's all there just perfect through every step... up to the actual burning to DVD, then it's all flip-flopped on the DVD. Note that I've burned this 3 times to 3 DVDs, and results are the same. Help!

Problems ripping with an external DVD Burner

Hello Everyone,
Recently I purchased a Liteon External DVD Burner off of newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827106011) -- It's a Liteon SHW-1635SX -- I bought this because the DVD-ROM drive thats in my tower natively is REALLY slow and I wanted to get a new one that I could use with a laptop that I`m going to purchase in the future. Whenever I try to rip a CD into iTunes using the burner, It says that it's ripping the disk, however it doesn't spin up the cd and it takes about 2 seconds to "rip" all the songs. I know this drive is soposed to be faster than my old one, But two seconds is a little TOO fast. Plus, I know that it's not copying the songs because when I try to listen to them in my library, the song won't play. (Under time it says "789:54..." for all the songs on the cd, in my library) However, the burner rips perfectly in Windows Media Player... Is this perhaps some kind of glitch with iTunes??? Basicly, the only way I can rip a CD into iTunes is to use my old DVDROM drive, but that defeats the purpose... below is the CD Diagnostic log that I got from iTunes::::::::

hmmm. we'd better check on the usual suspects with that. (the incredibly long song times can also be associated with these sorts of causes.)
You can't import or play music from an audio CD in iTunes for Windows
... and the following resources might be helpful with that. (check on firmware and drivers even though it's a brand new unit.)

How do you burn off final project onto dvd disk?

how do you burn off a final project onto a dvd disk....do you need idvd or dvd studio pro?

can i just export my project into toast and then burn it off?
Yes. Toast is capable of doing the compressing/encoding, multiplexing and burning, although in tests that I've done, Toast's encoding quality isn't nearly as good as iDVD, Compressor or DVD-SP.
do i need to compress it?
Toast will do that for you.
or do anything else to it?
Use good quality media. Stay away from poor quality brands like Memorex.

Intel iMac SuperDrive (Matshita DVD-R UJ-846) DVD Burning Problems

Hi there:
Having a strange problem burning DVD's now. I have a January '06 intel iMac Core Duo 2ghz, 2GB RAM. My DVD burner suddenly no longer will burn DVD's. When I put in a blank DVD-R, it just spins for a bit then spits it out, no prompt or error message. When I put in a blank DVD+R or DVD-RW, it gives me the usual prompt that a blank DVD has been inserted and asks how to handle it. But when I try to burn, it opens the session, then quickly finishes the session (without any burning) and spits the disc out with an error that burning failed because of an inability to calibrate laser power level for the media. Sometimes it says due to a media error. It also will not read a previously burned DVD data disc, including the OS install DVD that came with the computer. It will however, read and play movie DVD's, and also reads and burns CD-R's with no issues.
I've tried the following fixes with the following results:
1) Change media. Have tried several different types and different brands. No success.
2) Burn DVD's from an external firewire DVD burner. Works fine.
3) Hardware Test via the install DVD (on the external firewire burner). No problems found.
4) Did a fresh install of the Tiger OS onto an external firewire hard drive, booted from that, and tried to burn. No success.
5) Tried burning from Disk Utility and Finder. No success.
6) Put a cleaning CD into the drive and let it run. Still no success after.
System profiler says the drive is ready to burn CDs and DVDs. CDs work, DVDs don't.
Any ideas as to what could be causing this and how to fix?

If you guys did a search on the optical drives you'll discover that they have a rather extensive
history for failure. the failing optical drive process starts off rather slowly and worsens over time.
You could replace the internal optical drive but rather than performing surgery on your Imac
you would be better off going with an external optical drive.
If your IMac is still under warranty you can have it replace but I would still pick up an external
as well, I have read a couple of threads where even after having the internal replace the same issue
happened yet again.

I did however discover a couple of minor issues with my LaCie...
1) When the mounts a disc , for some reason the mechanical ejection button
on the face of the enclosure is disabled. This is not a major issue right click and eject or, drag the
icon into the trash
2) if you are wanting to lightscribe be sure to go to the LaCie website and download the latest
lightscribe app, the one that came with mine was out of date and did not work in Mac OSX 10.6
3) My lightscribed DVD's had a problem , the images where filled with rings from the center of the
disc out, I have discovered this is due to calibration , Amazon has shipped me a new Lacie that
I have sitting in a box next to me, I have not had a chance to test out the new unit yet.

External dvd burner no longer works

hello
recently upgraded from leopard to snow leopard. i have two macs in an audio studio where the computers, their hard drives, and some other gear is one room away from me in a machine room. this cuts down on noise for me in the control room of the studio.
i've used external dvd burners for the two studio macs. both have been working great. these burners have worked fine under both tiger and leopard. suddenly, after the snow leopard install, neither works. i have never installed any special drivers for these, the os has always properly handled them.
i have found that if i insert a disc, i can power the burner off and then back on and then the disc will mount. it will not mount just by inserting it per normal. also, cd burning software doesn't see this drive. it's not a choosable option in the menu.
this is a major pita. i don't think that there is anything else that i can do here. i'm hoping it's clear to apple that this is an area of concern. firewire devices ought to be able to plug in and work, and the os which has handled this so well in the past is not doing it right now.
i've tried some basic troubleshooting, like swapping firewire cables, but have realized via these forums than many others are having similar issues. i'd love to have this working asap.

well, i have two external dvd drives, and both are firewire only. and neither one works anymore. it's quite a bummer. i'd love to see them working again. i kind of need them. i sure didn't expect this to be something that stopped working in snow leopard.

DVD burner no longer burns...

Did a little research and followed some solutions but to no avail...
I have Roxio installed and has co-existed w/ Encore without problems up until just recently... I don't know what has changed as I don't shange the system much...
For some reason or another, Encore doesn't burn to the DVDs. When I place a blank DVD-R in the burner, I used to get an XP OS dialog box asking what I want to do with the media... This no longer occurs and as long as this happens, Encore will not burn a disk...
I have uninstalled Roxio's Drag-To-Disk feature, edited a couple of registry entries but still have no DVD burning capabilites. I can still burn CDs though...
Any direction is greatly appreciated...

Go into "My Computer", and right click the burner.
Under "Recording" turn OFF all XP recording to that drive.
What you are disabling is the XP version of Poxio (oops, freudian slip there) that installs a packet writing utility.
This is most likely conflicting with your installed version of Poxio.
In all honesty, you will be much better off getting rid of poxio completely - but the uninstaller doesn't work!
If you mail me off-forum, I will send you the Poxio Zapper that will remove all it's little tendrils & finickity bits that interfere.
When it starts doing this, you really will be far better off without it altogether. It doesn't like co-existing with other burn apps at all, it gets resentful and this causes major grief.
Sorry to bear bad tidings, but it is better to draw a line underneath it & get a better suite.
GEAR Video is superb
Nero is supposed to be good now as well.
Both have trial versions, and GEAR gets my vote as it carries it's own drivers that do not use generic Windows ones, or Adaptec, or Poxio, - it has it's own ASPI layer.

Why does final cut pro x dvd burn take so much time?

I have been trying to nurn a DVD and upload to YOUTUBE with Final Cut Pro X .......I have done this with ease many times before but now a 6 minute video is taking 3 hours to load fpr a DVD burn and ove 2 hours for YOUTUBE upload..
I have the energy saver off on ,y imac, and my internet is very high speed.....Help! Thanks

DVD burner doesn't fit correctly in Mac Pro

Added a new (second) DVD burner to my Mac Pro. It fits (I took the tray face plate off) but it's tight. So tight it won't eject all the way. I have to help it come out all the way. It's a Phillips DVD burner but seems to be the same dimensions as any other.
I've tested it, it's not the burner that is at fault. It seems to be dragging on the bottom of the slot. Normally, I'd just adjust the seating, but Apple's screw holes don't really allow for adjustment.
How can I make this drive sit about 1/8" higher so it slides out normally?

And how tight did you screw it in because it doesn't needed to be "Nailed Down" just tight enough not to move or rattle! Loosen the screws near the front of the drive a little and see that helps.

File name punctuation WILL cause MP3 and DVD burn errors – workaround?

OK, I’ve seen TONS of questions about problems burning MP3 format CDs and DVD. I’ve been having this problem for quite a while and today I just got ****** off enough to do some deep research. I seek to share my finding and suggestions for work arounds.
THE PROBLEM
iTunes can burn regular CDs since the song file name is not actually put on the CD. The CD or DVD burner work for burning audio discs and with other applications. All the burn preferences are set correctly and have been validated. But when you attempt to burn an MP3 CD or DVD (for backup, transfer or for player that play MP3 discs), iTunes may do the following:
Checking media (iTunes will ask: “You have inserted a DVD. Are you sure you want to create a Data DVD? answer yes, it’s a blank DVD disc in a working DVD burner)
Checking playlist
Burning disc… initializing
"The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (xxxx).”
THE CAUSE
Many times the error is due to song, album or artist names with unacceptable punctuation in them. iTunes does not tell you why and the error message and Google searches and Apple support/discussion forum details are sketchy… but in most cases its “illegal” punctuation in the song name, artist or album. I isolated at lest the apostrophe ‘ there are probably other illegal name punctuations too.
The cause my be explained by Apple following ISO or Joliet file name specifications or file name length specifications for CD or DVD discs. But since this appears to be undocumented (to the iTunes user) there is a need to understand the restrictions to allow error free disc burning.
THE CHALLENGE
Even if the playlist name does not have punctuation, if ANY playlist song name/artist/album does, the DVD burn will fail. Removing the offending songs from the playlists results in a successful burn but hey, I WANT those other songs too!
POSSIBLE WORK AROUNDS
Changing actual song file name – even if you change the name in iTunes (Get Info, Info, change name, artist, album) the actual song file names are not updated and continue to have the punctuation error resulting in a burn failure.
It appears that the actual file name needs to be changed. This can be a challenge. If you change only the file name you need to add modified file back into iTunes and the old file link is now broken. This is a bigger problem if that song file is in multiple playlists (the old ones are broken and the new one needs to be substituted). This is a REAL problem if you have 2,800 songs with an ‘ in them (like I do).
LETS WORK TOGETHER AND SHARE RESULTS
I’ve seen many, many unanswered questions about iTunes CD and DVD burning problems that will likely be solved if we can collectively develop and document a workaround. So, here is
THE QUESTION
What is the best way to rename (or retag) MP3 song files to eliminate punctuation and update iTunes and playlists so these songs can be burned to CD or DVD without violating the undocumented illegal punctuation restriction? The work around may differ for OS X vs Windows users so help on both would be appreciated.

been searching myself to create my own cdg for use in universal karaoke players. Kjams appears to offer the most hope for all I want to do. although there's something new now called Aria which promises to do a bunch of stuff for 79 $. Otherwise, all that I want to do as listed by the original poster, would cost me Kjams lite, plus the burn plug in is extra, plus I'd need the kjams producer as I would be building a cdg by adding the synced lyrics to something I've removed the vocal from, on Audacity program. if I go with Kjams, those 3 softwares, it will cost me 150, while I'm so jealous all those PC karaoke singers have free software for karaoke they can download.
I've been buying my cdg discs at 1.99 a pop, but they don't have special songs I want to perform. Aria for Mac might just do it all but I don't need the "scratch" sound they are pushing. that makes me steer away from the software.
experimenting with the Imac 10.6 idvd movie quicktime might work. I made a few cdg but have not tried them in the club karaoke machine yet. I added the lyrics to tuneprompter which is a free software that lets you add and sync the lyrics to the music with the spacebar. thats fun. but it's all in experimental thing so far. I know Kjams does not let you add lyrics and sync them yourself. you are supposed to import cdg to kjams that are already available and pay for them. in this case I want to find my own special tunes. good luck to you. there's one other thing but it's expensive. buying software which turns your mac into a windows platform by partiioning it and you start up in one or the other. that's also about 100-150 software.

IMac G3 hooking up External DVD Burner

I'm trying to hook up an external DVD Burner to my iMac G3 to use with iLife '05 (I don't think the G3 is compatable with '06)
The problem is, my external USB 2.0 DVD burner I got for my Windows XP computer doesn't say it can be used for Mac OS X. I can take the wait of a movie being burned on a USB 1.1 connection.
Does Apple already have a generic driver for External DVD Burners like it does for Bluetooth?
I'd like to show off to my friends the awesome movie-making capabilities on a Mac, but it can't be done without a DVD burner.

Instead of using an external USB with iMacG3, I also recommend using a firewire one with it. iMac G3's are equipped with USB 1,1 and it is slow for cd/dvd burning. With a firewire case you can use all the speed of your writer.
On the other hand, some writers (CD-R or DVD-R) are not fully functioning with all applications. Toast can handle much of them but iTunes for example was not functioning with my old mitsumi CD-R. I prefered to buy an LG and now it works perfectly.

DVD burn rate

It seems that the chatter has died off concerning dvd burn speeds lower than the advertised 8x. Here's my attempt at resurrecting it.
My DVD burner is a Matshita DVD-R UJ-846 (hires 15" PB) and I've used it with several types of media (Maxell DVD-R, Sony DVD+R and a noname brand DVD-R) and the maximum burn speed is 2x. Anyone else running into this problem?

Same drive - same PB: Verbatim -R 16x will burn at nominal 8x while TDK/Verbatim -R 8x will burn at nominal 2x only.
The drive seem to be a little bit picky.
Regarding nominal 8x:
Due to technical limitations of slot in drives only 50% will be written all full 8x speed - the other 50% of the disk only at approx 4x - resulting in a over-all 5.6x -6.0x

External DVD burner preferences

I have a Lace 16x externall DVD burner that I use to prevent wear and tear on the superdrive. Is there a way of setting system preferences so open up the external burner instead of the superdrive? Right now, a drop down menu appears and I have to manually select the external drive

I have the same issue where I run 10.3.9 but because I have a newer 80GB iPod that requires iTunes 7 which in turn requires QT7, I made a backup of my QT6 system to an external drive before I updated. Now when I need to work in iMovie or iDVD, I boot off the external drive to get back to my older setup so I can successfully use those apps.
I suppose I should update to Tiger, but frankly Panther works fine for my needs and I am too cheap to bother.

EMac Combo drive for a DVD burner ( superdrive)

I have purchased a used eMac 1 ghz . it has a stock combo drive . i burn a lot of DVDs .I have a external plextor DVD burner ( super drive ) and i was woundering if it would fit in the eMac ? do i need to remove the little bezel at the end of the tray ? I have always owned a older Slower G3 type mac , this will be my fastest mac i would ever have . So i want to be happy with it .

I guess burning to external is not so bad . i have been haveing problems when OSX tryed to verifi the burn and it fails so i though putting it into the computer would resolve that . I will keep the burner in the external case if it means i have to take the top off the optical drive itself .

Buying an External DVD Burner, but system requirement says Windows

I am thinking about buying an LaCie DVD Burner, but the problem is that the system requirement calls for Windows.
However, since Macs are all plug in play, will it work by just plugging it in, and then running the copy of Toast I already own?

Have you considered getting one of their FireWire versions? I know they're pricier, but they fully support them working with OSX.
Here's a review from an Amazon.com of their USB-only desktop drive where the author claims it works fine with OSX and a Core Duo MacBook as well as a MacBook Air. It seems a bit strange since it talks about bus power when I thought it only operated off of external power.

Is there any work-around in Mavericks for DVD burning issue's

Ever since I installed the updated OX I get errors and problems burning disc's ( with my external Sony and OWC DVD burner's. Sometime's it freezes in the middle of burning and other times it hangs by the verification process. Even using Apple's own internal burner give's me these issue's. Even aborting the burn after it hangs is problematic. I usually have to turn off the burner and then on again and eject the disc . I use the latest version of Toast but have tried with Mac's own burning option. It makes no difference, both ways aren't working for me. In Bootcamp while trying to burn (on PC) side. The computer keeps crashing. I have had this experiance on my iMac and Mac Book Pro both early 2011.

I am assuming you want to persist some intermediate values from a process XSLT invocation to another process XSLT invocation in BPEL.
An approach to persist variables in XSLT could be to persist them the target variable itself (in an optional section):
<li>This can be achieved by having an additional root element and mandatory element (say, data), having the actual schema and an optional complex type element (say, parameters, which would in turn consist of 2 elements name and value and maybe, if needed, type) attached to both the source and target schemas.
<li>whatever variable you would want to persist, you can append it in the XSLT to the target variable,as children of parameters node.
<li>Whenever, you want to invoke a partner link, you can have an assignment before invoking, which would assign the actual schema data (from element data) to the input variable of the invoke.
As there is no inbuilt solution for this, things could get messy.
