DVD Burn/Verification failure copying jpg images

I am trying to backup my files onto DVD's for backup purposes with one DVD per year.
I am using Philips DVD -R disks (max 8x I think) and I have had about 6 fail in the verification stage and a couple that verify OK but when I try and access the files after ejecting and relaoding my iMac whirs for a while and then just chucks the DVD out of the drive with no message.
Finder seems to only have an option to burn at x1 speed and I have seen in other posts that x4 or x6 or x8 may be better.
Can anyone throw any light on this problem please?
Thanks in hope.

Try Verbatim DVD-R. Most reliable brand.
Finder seems to only have an option to burn at x1 speed and I have seen in other posts that x4 or x6 or x8 may be better.
That's using Toast or Disk Utilty with iDVD projects, not data.

The PROBLEM: (three trials, three failures)
Burning DVD with digital picture files.
Burned from Finder and Burn Folder.
Burns completely but fails verification process.
Appears not to enter the verification process at all.
Error Message: This disc did not verify correctly and is unreliable. Because this disc is unreliable, discard it and try again using a new blank disc. (Error code 0x80020063)
    Media: Maxell DVD+R
However, disc could be read and files used in Photoshop despite the warning. In other words, the discs perform as normal, properly burned discs.
    The FIX:
    Replaced Media, Maxell DVD-R.
    Worked just fine.
    New QUESTION:
Is there a way to speed up or, more probable, to remove the Verification process step? To burn 2.75GB required about 14 minutes and the verification process seemed longer than that. I am unsure of the verification step because in watching the meter the percentage counter seemed to move slower and Boogie, my bulldogge, was in no mood to wait; he had to go for a walk so I left with 85% to go. When I got back, disc was ejected, no message on the screen, and after testing it was perfect.
    The HARDWARE:
    PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K04L:
    Firmware Revision: D441
    Interconnect: ATAPI

    Thanks folks, appreciate the help.
I prefer the TDK blanks based on success in the past with CDs, but in a pinch and Staples is close by, Maxell was the best they had.
I am burning at 2X, the fastest option offered when burning from Finder. I will try the Disk Ute and drop verification. After burning 4 DVDs now I have confidence in the process and hardware. However, I do a quick eject and re-insert of the disc to make sure all the files are there and readable; this does not take 15 minutes.
I have over 20K digital picture files or apprx'tly 105GB to back-up from my back-up external hdd. Looks like over 25 hours at least including verifying each DVD. I want to streamline the process.
Hopefully I will not prograstinate so long next time before doing back-ups.

  • Need help burning a file of jpg images to a CD

I have a folder on my desktop with 17 jpg images ranging in size from 250 KB to 500 KB that I need to burn onto a CD (I've never burned a CD before).  I inserted a blank CD into the slot on my MacBook Pro, waited for a file to pop up, named the file, then dragged the file to the CD icon in Finder.  I scrolled to "Burn CD" and clicked on that.  Took only a couple of minutes for the computer to tell me it was finished, so I ejected the CD.  When I reinserted the CD, however, nothing happened.  I expected a screen to pop up with the images I thought I had saved.  Am I using the wrong kind of CD?  The one I used is a Maxell CD-RMax with 80 min/700 MB storage.  Thanks for any assistance.

    Hi Elyartist,
Here are the suggested steps for burning the pictures onto a CD:
iPhoto '11: Create your own photo CDs and DVDs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2436
This is the section that is most like what you are already doing (skip to step 6):
To create a CD or DVD to be viewed in Windows or by a photo-processing company:
In iPhoto, select the photos, albums, or video clips you want to burn to a disc.
    Choose File > Export.
In the Export Photos window, click File Export, and then select your options. For best results, choose JPEG, Maximum, and Full Size. For more information, see Export a photo.
When you’re ready, click Export, and export the photos to a folder on your computer.
When the export is finished, quit iPhoto.
Click the Finder icon in the Dock, and then insert a CD-RW disc or a blank CD-R or DVD-R disc into your drive.
Drag the folder that contains your exported photos to the disc’s icon.
When the files have been copied, choose File > Burn Disc, and then click Burn.
The article contains some basic causes for this issue as well.
    Cheers!

  • How to: turn dvd burn verification OFF?

I burn DVD all the time and walk away, and come back to find the disk in verification, which cause more time than I want.
How do I turn verification off?
    thanks

I have the same question and it is regarding burning
with OS X 10.4.7, where you insert blank media, click
it open, drag files to burn onto it and hit the burn
bar at the top of the window.
It will automatically start verifying after burning.
This is probably smart, but not desired from my
    standpoint.
Once it gets to the verify phase you can click the cancel button in the progress window to stop it.

  • Havind I- DVD, burned disks/movies copied onto lots of DVDs.

I made a DVD for the company I work for. They would like to make several copies and send it to other departments. They are asking all about layers, capacity and other things and speaking a foreign language!
Can a company who copy DVDs for companies just take the DVD I have made and whizz is through their machine or can i movie projects that are burnt, only be burned again from scratch rather than copied. It has chapters and all the other bits that IMovie / IDVD can use etc.
Also, some people have had difficulties playing the DVD on combi tv/dvd players and some other players. Currently use DVD/RW+ disks but having read some posts may switch to DVD- (which i hear are even worse for compatibility as many machines dont play DVD- at all!.
Help - what if they can burn it and then it doesn't work, I will look very bad!

yepp, you can use your "master" to copy as much copies you need, including all chapters etc...
    using your Mac, read...
HOW TO copy previously-burned DVD-R video discs:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42724
… and for sure, a commercial copy center can do that too... RW+ is a little exotic, but.. anyhow... (ANYone could erase your disk! it is reWritable...!)
for best compatibility, use dvd-r; + is little/not supported on older standalones; same wir -rw media.... keep away from dual layer -rw, these are just supported by the latest standalones and computer drives....

  • Unable to Burn DVD due to Verification Failure

I am trying to make a backup copy of my Leopard Install DVD. It is a 7.2 GB file so I used Disk Utility to make a disk image of the DVD, then tried to burn the disk image to a Sony DVD+R Dual Layer disk (8.5 GB). Everything seemed to be working just fine, the burn process completed but at the very end I got an error message stating: Unable to burn "MAC OS X Install DVD Copy" (verification of the burn failed)
Is this a factor of the media used or something else? The disk image I created on my desktop appears to be fully functional. I put a copy of the disk image on a backup drive but I would prefer to have it on DVD media if possible.

    Hi Howwow,
Yes I was stuck with Sony DVD+R DLs tonight but thought I would try one anyway. I have to use a Dual Layer DVD due to the file size. From my reading on these forums it seems the DVD+R DLs are recommended. Single Layer DVDs seems to favor DVD-R for burning. I have heard that the Verbatim brand seems to burn well with consistency. I will try to locate some Verbatim DLs of both types tomorrow unless anyone has other specific suggested media or reasons for the verification failure.
    Thanks for the input.

  • DVD burned on one G4 will not open up on another. How to make an image?

    Hello,
This is a bit of a desperate problem, I have a dvd that was created of a 1.4 hour program and burned using iDVD3.0.1 on a G4 500 Mhz machine. Once the dvd is created I am able to play it on that computer using dvd player. I am running Tiger on that machine.
Once I take that dvd over to my G4 1GHz machine also running tiger, the machine will simply not accept the dvd and keep ejecting the dvd; dvd player does not even open up in order for me to look at the video.
The main purpose of me having to look at the dvd on the G4 1Ghz machine is to copy the dvd. Can you also briefly describe how to make a copy of a video dvd created using iDVD? I believe I have to make an image first. I cannot remember how to do that, please help. Once the image is made how do I copy that image onto a fresh dvd?
    Thanks,
    Vidur

    Hi Vidor
    first:
    I use DVD-R disks
    And Verbatim brand
    second
iDVD 3.xx doesn't create Disk Images. Neither does iDVD 4
(if iDVD prior HD/5 You have to add a hack to make this possibly
    named HPfurz and install it)
    Works on iDVD 4 - for iDVD 3 I don't know.
Test this with Apple DVD-player - OK then burn it with iDVD
or Toast if You have and don’t want to re-code the movie.
    third
To make a DVD copy You need
    - a NON copy protected DVD
    - a program that can make it into a Disk Image eg. Roxio Toast™ (costs)
    - a new blanc DVD-R disk
If Apple Disk Util tool - can make a disk image is out of my knowledg.

  • How can I resolve a "genuine software verification failure" during installation from DVD?

I have a set of 3 DVDs from my organization that has volume-licensed Adobe CS6 Production Premium.
I need to install it on a laptop that has no DVD drive.
I can mount the ISO image of the first DVD disk as a network drive, and can then proceed through installation. When I am asked to "insert the second disk", I mount the second ISO image, and installation proceeds. In the process, I enter the serial number / key provided by our IT department and sign in with my Adobe ID.
When installation finishes, however, I am informed there was an Adobe genuine software verification failure. The customer support link leads to this forum.
How can I resolve this, please?
I have searched the forums for related issues and can only find reports of similar problems for downloaded software. The advice there is to re-download the software. Should I expect my volume-license key to work for the downloaded software?

  • How to convert MP4 movie to dvd burn ready disc image?

I have a 15 minute MP4 movie (640x480, non-copy protected) that I'd like to save as a dvd burn-ready disc image. (This was a photo slideshow that a friend made into a movie on OneTrue Media. I don't want to add anything else to it, no chapters, additional files etc -- just save as a disc image that can be posted on my idisk public site for a few friends to download and burn to dvd if they wish). How can I do this the easiest way with iDVD?

    Welcome to the forums.
You're almost there. Pull the video into iDVD (mp4 isn't the best format for DVD conversion but it should work) and use the Save As Disc Image command to create your image file (set preferences to Best Performance first).

  • My PrE 11 App Crashes during DVD Burn at ~72% thru Encoding Media - image renderer dll

This error occurs consistently with a project I just started.  Project was initially created under PrE 2 then Copied via Archive and continued under Pre 11.  I'm a new user and I need some of your expert help to resolve this.  Windows 7 event viewer signature is as follows:   Hope you can help me with this I've spent 2 days working this so far.
oops - don't know how to insert text (.doc) file here. Will add in later post. Thanks for your interest.

    Reporting progress this AM:
Windows updates are installed and current in both HP (Win 7 64) and Dell (XP 32).  It appears anti-virus does not have any involvement in either case.  Last set of trials had Norton on and active and had predictable outcomes (more later).  Based on this mornings test cases it could be that Win 7 PrE 11 64 bit DVD Burn process (Sysinternals has PrE burn.exe running at 32 bits) is more sensitve to bad scene clips than the Win XP PrE 11 32 bit DVD Burn process.
Test cases performed today...Methodology -- since my detailed examination of the Project timeline did not turn up any answers I proceeded with a set of Tests to remove major scenes from the offending project stating from the END and working forward performing a project save and PrE restart after each scene removal.
Test case A - removed last scene, reduced timeline total from 01:00:18:00 h to 00:58:00:16. The resulting autoplay DVD burn on HP Appcrashed at 74% thru 'Encoding Media'.  Last result prior to this was Appcrash at 71%.  I then tested this Project case A against the Dell autoplay DVD burn which was good as expected.
Test case B - also removed the next to last scene, reduced timeline total to 00:54:07:28.  The resulting autoplay DVD burn on HP Appcrashed at 80% thru 'Encoding Media'.  Spotting a trend, I calculated the offending timeline event to be approximately 00:42:45:27 to 00:43:20:15.  Going to this point in the Project timeline I once more looked for any artifacts or gaps. Finding none I also removed the continuous sub-scene starting at 00:42:45:26 ending at 00:43:45:08.
Test Case C - Removing the sub-scene along with last 2 scenes reduced the Project total timeline to 00:53:13:18.  The resulting autoplay DVD Burn on HP Appcrashed this time at 82% thru "Encoding Media'. So...examining the total timeline scene at around 00:43:00:00 I find 13 more sub-scenes that are derived from a set of old 8mm film conversions to .avi files.  The sub-scenes are moderately adjusted for lightness and color and are a little out of sequence from the original .avi files.  So lets remove them all.
Test Case D1 - Removing the last 2 scenes and the 4th scene from last, reduced the Project total timeline to 00:50:42:00. The resulting autoplay DVD Burn on HP was successful!  I then prepared a Travel-Menu-based DVD Burn on the HP with 3 scene markers and it also was successful.  So I believe the Project may be OK under HP Win 7 64 PrE 11 by removing or perhaps re-editing the 4th from last Scene.  To test this conclusion I will add the last 2 scenes back into the Project and try a Menu-Based Burn on both the HP and Dell platforms.  I believe it will work .. will report back.
This conclusion does not explain the root cause(s) for the ProblemSignature 'Image Renderer dll Appcrash' but may establish a workaround for this project.  For the 4 Test cases iterated here I used the referenced Process Explorer Sysinternals to look into potential process conflicts.  After Test Case B the Sysinternals was used to examine the 'Adobe Premiere DVD burn.exe' thread (TID 4948, CPU 0.05).  Message reads " Dbghelp.dll Configured does not support the Microsoft Symbol Server. Please download & install the Microsoft Debugging Tools for Windows to get a version that works."  This action is way beyond my experience level.  I will await overwatch input and continue with workaround analysis.
Apologies for tedious details...but, making progress. Thanks for listening & guidance. rdub

  • Problems with Image Disk, fantom CD on desktop and DVD burning

    Hello,
I met the last days a lot of problems related with logical volumes.
    1) image disk which refuse to disapear when unmount
    2) CD which are duplicate once burnt (the both icons disaperar when one is ejected)
    3) Servers (anonymous ftp) who stays on desktop after disconnection
    4) DVD burning which begin with the message of the end : « completion of engraving » (in french : « finalisation de la gravure ») and the process abort.
    5) Asking information about the DVDs: they contains 1,3Go of data (they are new Verbatim DVD-RW!).
    If somebody have an idea…

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
    1) If you are using a file or application that resides on the Disk Image then it will not unmount.
    2) If you burn 2 "sessions" with software like Toast you can end up with two CD icons that both eject when you take the single disk out. This is normal.
    3) ?
    4) and 5) Try burning disks at a lower speed and use media that is suitable for the older drives the iMac G4 has. You shouldn't be using 16x media.
    regards

  • Burning iDVD images on a Windows DVD burner?

    Hi All,
My dad has a 12" iBook G4 (combo-drive only, no super-drive), and he want's to burn a DVD out of iDVD. He has a DVD Burner in his PC, so can he export the image (ISO, or whichever format it is) transfer it to his PC, and then burn the DVD there?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Reza,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
You need to "Save as Disk Image" of your DVD project, transfer over to the Window PC, change the file extension from .img to .iso, then burn, see another thread: http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=205201
