DVD Burner doesn't show up in DVD SP -

In the Build & Format dialog box, there is a drop down menu to choose your destination. Only my hard drive is available. Shouldn't my SuperDrive appear there, also?
I'm having trouble burning a simple DVD - hitting the BURN button results in the response Formatting Succesful - Formatting Finished. The encoded files have been created, I see, but it won't burn a disk. Yes, the DVD media is blank.
I was able to burn recently using the same machine and software. I'm running DVD SP 4.03. on Mac OS X 10.4.3.
Why doesn't DVD SP recognize my DVD burner?
Thanks.

Sorry, Tom, I disagree. Perhaps you are used to a different OS, but I don't normally think to restart my Mac when I have a problem, nor does any other Mac user I know.
I am having the same issue. I purchased a new MacPro a couple of weeks ago, installed Final Cut Studio, and did a software update. When I run DVD Studio Pro, it does not show my DVD burner as an output device. A restart did not help. Also, if a restart is required, either the installation or the software update should say so. Neither did.

  • External dvd reader/burner doesn't show in Finder

Hi and thanks in advance for your help -
I've just purchased an external dvd burner because the pre-super drive dvd reader in my macbook is getting a little tires. It doesn't appear in the finder, but when I check with the System Profiler or Disk Utility application, it is listed there. It's a no-brand dvd burner (from the Fnac chain in France) which appears as a "Slimtype DVD A DS8A3S", am I missing something here?
    Thanks

That was the next question I was going to ask.
If your external DVD player has its own power supply, you should definitely use it. If it came with 2 USB cables, it's in your best interest to use both of them with DVD player. One will be responsible for transferring data from the DVD player to the computer, along with supplying some power. The second cable will provide the rest of the power for the drive

    Hi,
If the drive is not showing in the list of bootable devices, you can be fairly certain that it has suffered a Hardware failure and will need to be replaced.

  • How can I burn a slide show to a dvd?

I have tried, every way, possible to burn a slide show with music to a dvd and I did so successfully except that it will only play in a play station 3 unit and not correctly play on any computer or dvd player. I have tried several ways:
-Creating it as an image saving it to my desktop and burning it from disk utilities
-Creating it in iDVD and burning it that way
    I AM using a DVD-R
So, again it will play in the playstation but not on dvd players
    WHAT CAN I DO??
When I burned it using the whole image thing & disc utilities, it burned the slide show correctly but NO music. I would really appreciate your help

Sorry, was trying to get all of these.

  • DVD Burner Doesn't Fit!! Any others?

Just bought a LaCie 16x LightScribe internal DVD+-R double layer burner since it was recommended on this site, and now come to find it doesn't fit by millimeters due to the mirrored doors.
Any other DVD burner suggestions? I mean, a size that actually fits the mirror-doored Mac?
Thanks for taking the time to read this!

You'd think that all optical drives would be the same size, but they're not. I found that one out several years ago..
If the drive is indeed too long to mount in the drive carrier and seat fully into the chassis (you say by only a few millimeters) and you've done the obligatory step of removing the tray bezel, the next step would be to remove the entire faceplate of the drive. Depending on the drive, there are usually at least four tabs on the faceplate that hold in the drive chassis. Simply press in the tabs with a small screwdriver while prying the faceplate forward. That may give you the clearance you need to get the drive to fit.

  • DVD burner doesn't fit correctly in Mac Pro

Added a new (second) DVD burner to my Mac Pro. It fits (I took the tray face plate off) but it's tight. So tight it won't eject all the way. I have to help it come out all the way. It's a Phillips DVD burner but seems to be the same dimensions as any other.
I've tested it, it's not the burner that is at fault. It seems to be dragging on the bottom of the slot. Normally, I'd just adjust the seating, but Apple's screw holes don't really allow for adjustment.
How can I make this drive sit about 1/8" higher so it slides out normally?

    but it's tight
And how tight did you screw it in because it doesn't needed to be "Nailed Down" just tight enough not to move or rattle! Loosen the screws near the front of the drive a little and see that helps.

There is a problem with 1/2 wmv display related to a recent Windows Update kb. The issue is highlighted in the Announcement at the topic of this forum and has been discussed in numerous threads here. For your convenience, the Announcement looks like the following:
Announcement: Windows Update Causes Half of Display to Be Blacked Out
    Hide Details
MicroSoft has issued an Update for Windows, that is causing problems with Displays. The following is from Talbot McInnis, who tracked down this problem, and offers a fix:
"MS bulliten MS13-057.  Specifically, on XP kb2834904 and on windows 7 kb2803821 is causing a problem
For us, it occurs when decoding WMV9 files.  Not all uses of WMV decoding are affected, but I confirmed that when connecting the WMV decode DLL to a sample grabber for RGB32 video, the frames arrive black on top, so that points directly to decoding internals of the WMV Decode dll.
You can uninstall these Windows Updates to resolve your problem."
There are several threads on the problem that this Update is causing on the PrE and PrPro Forums, so one can get more details. So far, there is not another fix from either MS, or Adobe.
Also, see this Adobe KB Article: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/wmv-files-corrupted-import-or.h tml
by Bill Hunt (Aug 2, 2013)
The general suggestions in the threads have included
    a. For now, set up Windows Updates to require notification and your approval before any downloading and installing of them.
    b. If you catch the offending Windows Update kb in the Important Updates, right click it and select Hide. That is supposed to keep it gone.
Your problem mostly likely popped up when you selected a route that involved the transfer of the slideshow as a .wmv file. You should be OK after deleting the indicated Windows Update kb. But, consider using the Photoshop Elements Slideshow Editor Output option Edit With Premiere Elements which sends the slideshow over to Premiere Elements in a non wmv format. If you go this route, the slideshow can be broken apart for further significant edits with the Break Apart Elements Organizer Slideshow command.
Please review. If any questions, please do not hesitate ot ask.
    Thanks.

  • Can I burn my tv shows to a DVD and play in my home theater?

I burned a TV Show to a DATA DVD disk and it will not play in my dvd player. I looked at the file and it was an itunes file. How do I get the show off itunes to play in a separate dvd player?

DATA DVDs will not work in a normal DVD player.
If it was a purchased iTunes TV show, it may not be able to be burned to a DVD format.
Also, I noticed you are using a PC, you might get more results if you put this in the iTunes for Windows forum. (it's currently in the MAC forum).

  • How to play DVD burned on to surperdrive on a DVD player?

Ok I burned a slideshow on to a DVD-R Disc,  using a Mac superdrive and can view it on my macbook air, can I view it on a DVD player?

If you’re able to view it in the DVD Player on the Mac, you’ll be able to view it in a standalone player.
If you burned it as a data DVD, you can’t.

  • New samsung external dvd burner taking forever to rip a dvd on macbook pro. Please help.

Hello...the superdrive in my macbook pro died recently so I purchased an inexpensive Samsung SE-208DB/TSBS external dvd burner (with USB). It has been burning so far now about 14 hours and still on 55%encoding. I have 45 GB available on system and no other programs running at the same time. Not sure if it's something with the burner itself or with my mac. help please and thank you.

No, just a single USB, which, after reading some online comments elsewhere makes me wonder if it was a power-type problem with my mac. I think I'll have to return the drive..
    thank you for the help...

  • DVD burn doesn't offer correct speed

I have an iMac iSight (PowerMac12,1 PowerPC G5) with Matshita DVD-R UJ-846 SuperDrive. Mac OS X 10.4.8. According to the Tech Spec this iMac writes DVD-R and DVD+R discs at up to 8x speed.
If I use DVD-R media, and try to write using a burn folder, Finder says the maximum speed is 2x. Toast Titanium 5.2.3 also says the maximum burn speed is 2x, it correctly reports the disk size as 4.something GB, and offers Simulation mode burn.
If I use DVD+R media, and try to write using a burn folder, Finder says the maximum speed is 8x. Toast Titanium 5.2.3 also says the maximum burn speed is 8x, it incorrectly reports the disk size as 8 GB, and does not offers Simulation mode burn.
What on earth is going on?
I appreciate that Toast is not an Apple product, but I expect Toast is only reporting what Apple tells it, and similar faults appear in the Finder response.
Does burning from Finder verify the disk, because at the end of the process, there in no window visible saying that verification was successful?
(Note this does not seem to be related to the fault on SuperDrives relating to High-Speed media (Apple article 86130), because my drive is not a Pioneer drive).
    iMac iSight G5 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Note the phrase "up to". The maximum burning speed may be less than that specified on the disk blank, especially if the discs are faster than those available when the drive was manufactured. The drive make, model, and firmware version of the drive, and the brand of disc, may limit the speed to a lower value than that specified for the drive or the disc. For example, the first Quicksilver superdrive would burn 2X DVDs at 2X, but would only burn 4X DVDs (which didn't exist when the drive was made) at 1X. Try different brands of discs. I have good luck with Verbatim DVD-R. The newer Pioneer drives seem to be able to burn discs at their rated speed.
I don't know why Toast would report the wrong disc size. When using Finder's burn folders, you can click the small round button at the lower-right to see the disc size and space used. Does it show the correct size for the DVD+R discs? Are you sure they are not DVD+R DL discs, which are larger?
The Finder does verify discs it burns. If you look at the progress bar, you will see it change from "Writing" to "Verifying". If there is a verify error, it will eject the disc, rather than mount it, when finished. It will also display an error window. If the verify is successful, it will mount the disc, but not display a window. Disk Utility gives you a choice of what to do when the burn is complete, and always displays a window indicating success or failure.

  • How to burn a slide show to a dvd to watch on tv?

I have a slide show set up in Aperature. I am needing to burn it onto a dvd, so friends are able to play it in a dvd and watch on their TV.  What program works best for this?  I have the Adobe -  Creative Cloud if there is a program that would be simple to use.

I'm not at all familiar with Adobe; you do need software that will properly encode the video so the DVD is readable by any DVD player. Top of the list would be iDVD with customizable menus to give your masterpiece that special look - no longer available from Apple, but still available as part of the retail iLife 09 or 11 disk - some resellers, including Amazon, still have it. Then there is Roxio Toast ($$) - excellent burn software, but no customizable anything. There is Burn (free) - it does what it says: burn. And there are others; you can google for them - I've tried several and prefer to use iDVD and Roxio Toast.

  • How do I burn a slide show to a DVD which will work with my DVD player?

I've been able to create a slide show of photos with selected i-Tunes music.  I can create a file and burn it to a blank DVD R, but both a regular and Blu-Ray DVD players say the disk is incompatible.
Also, is there supposed to be a file under Events where you can keep other slide shows?

You need a video DVD authoring application like iDVD. Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.4.3 and earlier select Size = Medium or Large. For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
NOTE: there are other video DVD authoring apps available thru the App Store.  However, they do not have the themes and professional appearance that iDVD provides.

  • DVD burner doesn't burn CD or DVD

Laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6700 CTO Entertainment .  I have been attempting to create a data DVD.  When I attempt to burn the DVD with Power2Go, it goes through the process, but nothing is burned to the disc and the disc appears empty after the burn process is completed.  The same thing occurs using other software burning applications.  It is as if I requested a simulation.  I have tried different brands of media and no improvement.
I had this problem when the computer was new and I couldn't burn a Recovery disc.  So, HP sent me one.  Then before the computer was returned for repairs, it started working.  Now it won't.
    Your help is appreciated.
    Mike G.

    Hi Mike,
First of all you could try the automated fixit for your Operating System from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
If the above fix hasn't worked, try the following.  From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Click to open the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.  Right click on the first channel and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When uninstalled repeat the process for each channel.  Also if an ATA controller is listed, right click and uninstall this.  Again, do not delete drivers if asked.
Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  If your optical drive appears here, right click and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.
Restart your PC and let Windows re-install these devices.  Give it a minute or two, then see if the drive is working.
If the above has not resolved the problem, carry on with the process below.
First run the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below again.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Next, from the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  If your optical drive appears here, right click and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.
Let me know how it goes.
    Best wishes,
    DP-K
