DVD burner help

Hi I bought this DVD burner And I just recieved it today but little did I know that its not compatable with my computer -_-. The plugins in the back aren't the same one as my computers. The one I bought has like "sata power and Sata Data" on the back and the plugin is significantly smaller. The plugins on my computer are the large ones that take up almost the whole length of the DVD burner. Sorry for the horrible descriptions. Is there some type of converter I can buy (perferbly at best buy) that can convert the burner plugins I bought to the ones I need for my computer? I really hope thats possible.

You could install a PCI SATA controller like this one here:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/PNY+-+2-Channel+SATA+II+RAID+PCI+Card/8552327.p?id=1188562133392&skuId=8...
It allows connection of these devices for computers without these ports.
So yeah, all you need is a PCI SATA Controller Card and you will be all set. You might want to pickup longer cables, too if it does not reach between the drive and the card.

  • External DL DVD Burning Help

    Today I tried to burn my first dual layer DVD using my external DVD burner drive and Toast...It worked for about five minutes and then I got a weird error saying that there was an error in the "medium." I tried going to Roxio's site for answers, but it didn't help. Could it just be that my drive is outdated, or could the dual dvds that I bought aren't compatible with my drive? My drive is a 16x12 dual and the blanks I bought are dvd+r dl Verbatim.
    Any help is greatly appreciated...Thanks!

    How are you connected to it? FireWire or USB? Regardless, make sure you connect the device directly to your MBP and not via a hub. Also, remove any devices that aren't needed. Basically it's trying to make it work with the simplest setup possible.
    I would firstly try again doing a restart and run no other applications other than your DVD writing application.
    Obviously with DL media the speed at which you can create coasters such that it become more costly than to simply replace the drive is quite real.
    By the way, what make/model drive is it?

  • DVD Burner HELP ME!!

    I have been trying to burn a DVD for 6 months using IDVD. I have read some of the other discussions on this and some have helped. I just was wondering When I was looking for a computer one of the people I was talking to said something about in order to burn a DVD you have to turn the DVD upside down because when you put it in the right way it is the CD burner and on the top of the CD entrance is the DVD burner. I was wondering if that is true. Thanks for you time.

    Hmmm, at 6 months I think you have the record for the longest burn time ever...
    Seriously though, welcome to the forums. I hope you will receive better advice here than you got from "one of the people" you encountered in your computer search. Both CDs and DVDs go in the same way - label side "up."

  • Plextor external DVD burner -- HELP!

    We have a PowerBook G4 and are running OSX 10.4. We just bought a Plextor PX-740UF external DVD burner. We plugged it in, turned it on, inserted a DVD-+R, dragged pictures onto it and then tried to burn it. Then it acted like it was burning it but the % never changed.
    Then the same thing happened with DVD-R. What am I doing wrong? Do I need Toast?
    Is it possible to install an INTERNAL DVD burner in my laptop?
    Thanks!

    Did you check to see if the Plextor model you
    purchased was compatible with a Mac?
    You don't say which model PB you have.
    You can go to http://www.mcetech.com/ or
    http://www.macsales.com/ and see if they have any
    Combo drives for your PB.
    MJ
    FWIW the Plextor 740-UF lists itself as MAC-OS compatible but since I had it before I got my Macbook - mac compatiblitly was not my main purchasing criteria...
    It does work just great with Toast, as it does on my old slow Dell but it makes coasters when trying to burn DVD's.
    This, to me t least, implies it is compatible to a large degree but I still can't use the native burn functionality.
    However, since I bought a copy of Toast... the problem is largely rendered moot at this point.

  • Adobe Photoshop Version 1.0 - DVD burning help

    I am trying to burn the photos on my hard drive onto a DVD.  I am following the directions in Help and it is not working.  I am clicking on "backup", then "burn", ..., and the DVD drawer keeps popping open and is not doing anything.  It keeps asking for me to put the disk in, and when I do it pops back out again.  Help!

     I have to believe that the OP has confused things. PS 1.0 (Mac-only) was well prior to the development and release of DVD's, Data, or Video.
    Given the OP's apparent level of familiarity with the subject i suspect, by 'Photoshop Version 1.0' OP means:
    1/ Photoshop CS1
    or
    2/ Photoshop Version 11.0
    or,
    3/ maybe even the update 0.1 (Though this last seems most unlikely)

  • IDVD won't burn to LaCie DVD burner - Help

    I need help on getting my iMac G5 to recognize the LaCie d2 burner I recently installed. I am using iDVD 4 and I can't seem to burn a DVD. I have created a nice slide show and it previews beautifully but when my Mac tries to burn nothing happens. My Mac has a combo drive NOT super drive. Also, what does it cost to upgrade to iDVD 5 and is it worth it? Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hi srtri,
    Did you install the driver provided by LaCie? see this LaCie's link: LaCie - External Storage: Hard Drives, CD-RW Drives, DVD-RW Drives, Tape, Monitors and choose the "DVD" product family.

  • DVD Burning Help Needed

    I have burned all our VHS home movies onto DVDs and now I'd like to make copies of the DVDs for family members but I don't want to have to do it through the tv again (takes too long). I would like to be able to copy my dvd to a dvd on my pc but I do not have a clue what I need to do this and would appreciate any help/suggestions.
    Thanks!

    I don't know about "I would like to be able to copy my dvd to a dvd on my pc," but to do it on the Mac, you take the original DVD and make a Disk Image from it using Disk Utility.
    Run Disk Utility. Insert original DVD. When it appear in the sidebar, select it. Be sure to select the volume (disk) that appears below the optical drive in the sidebar. Then from the menu bar, +File -> New -> Disk Image from "<name of disk>"+. In the +Save As+ dialog, name the disk image file and pick a place to save it. Note: The disk image file name is different from the name of the disk itself.
    It will take some time to create the disk image file from a DVD (because it is usually large). Once it completes, the disk image file will appear in the Disk Utility sidebar under the horizontal line. Select it. Eject the original DVD. Then click the Burn button in the Tool Bar. You will be prompted to insert a DVD writable disc into the optical drive. Click the Burn button to reproduce the disk image to the new disc.
    Once you have the disk image file of a DVD, you can burn it as many times as you want.

  • IDVD - DVD burning help

    I downloaded a movie and want to burn it to a DVD, but when I try it using iDVD a message comes up that says the file exceeds maximum content. It is currently an mp4 file - does anyone know how to edit the file so that it would fit? Thanks!

    Thanks, but I had already changed the Quality to the highest level - and the project ends just in the yellow because its such a long movie. What I was thinking is if I could edit the original file in such a way that I could just cut off the credits or something, than maybe it would fit? Or if there was a way to compress the file but still have it burn a viable DVD

  • DVD burning help

    Hi, I'm using an iMac G4 1.25GHz Superdrive with Mac OSx 10.3.9.
    When I first got my iMac in March 2005 I had no problems backing up files on DVD. I was using Memorex DVD+RW.
    Now I insert a DVD+RW and it doesn't work. I also used a DVD+R and it failed to copy??! What DVDs can I actually use to back up work on my model iMac?
    Why will my machine no longer accept DVD+RWs?

    Some of the stock drives in the iMac G4s can't use + media. Try sticking to DVD-R and DVD-RW media.

    Hello anyone/everyone!
    I need some help, I'm trying to burn a file using the disk utility. Only thing is that the disk utility wants to used the drive installed on my iBook (combo drive) and not my external DVD drive! I couldn't find a way to be able to chnage the default burner, and I was hoping that someone/anyone could help me out? The file is too large for a regular 800mb disk so I have to use the external dvd burner. Help me please oh wise-ones?!
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Find out if the external burner is Patchburn compatible. If it is, then apply it from http://www.patchburn.de/
    If not, I'd sell the external burner and get one that is compatible like those from http://www.macsales.com/
    You may find other tricks on http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ as well.

    Please help me. I'm a Productions manager for an extreme sports Tv show up here in Lake tahoe and i need my Dvd burner to work so i can use it in my daily work. thanks alot

    if you want to use the same font but different size/color etc, just create a different textformat instance or you could re-use the one you already defined:
    var font3:Font=new Font3();
    var dtFormat:TexFormat=new TextFormat();
    var dtText2:TextField=new TextField();
    dtFormat.font=font3.fontName;
    dtFormat.size=15;
    dtText2.autoSize=TextFieldAutoSize.CENTER;
    dtText2.defaultTextFormat=dtFormat;
    dtText2.embedFonts=true;
    var dtfFormat3:TextFormat=new TextFormat();
    var dtText3:TextField=new TextField();
    dtFormat3.font=font3.fontName;
    dtFormat3.size=22;
    dtFormat3.color=0xaa0000;
    dtText3.autoSize=whatever
    dtfText3.defaultTextFormat=dtFormat3;
    dtText3.embedFonts=true;
    it only gets tricky when you want bold or italic or bold and italic fonts embedded.  those are different fonts and those need to be embedded seperately.

  • New samsung external dvd burner taking forever to rip a dvd on macbook pro. Please help.

    Hello...the superdrive in my macbook pro died recently so I purchased an inexpensive Samsung SE-208DB/TSBS external dvd burner (with USB). It has been burning so far now about 14 hours and still on 55%encoding. I have 45 GB available on system and no other programs running at the same time. Not sure if it's something with the burner itself or with my mac. help please and thank you.

    No, just a single USB, which, after reading some online comments elsewhere makes me wonder if it was a power-type problem with my mac. I think I'll have to return the drive..
    thank you for the help...

  • X300 - Need help finding the correct internal DVD Burner

    I want to buy and install an internal DVD burner, which I am unable to identify on the Lenovo website.  The only internal Ultrathin DVD burners I find fit the x200 series, but nothing for the x300 series.  Frustrating.
    Mine is a Thinkpad x300, Type 6477, and S/N L3-xxxxx.
    Anyone able to help me identify the correct part number?
    Thanks!
    Moderator Note; s/n edited for members own protection

    . . . thanks for the part IDs, lead_org. . . . took your advice and searched ebay for both, but nothing surfaced. . . . so, I entered the parts numbers into Lenovo's Websales site and was unable to find any such part listings for sale anywhere . . . nothing. . . . then, I emailed Lenovo Websales about it . . . they promptly replied that the parts were not in stock, and that I could try purchasing from www.cdw.com . . . I can understand if Lenovo did not have them in stock, but that they would not even LIST the parts was weird. . . . this is a 1-1/2 year old machine . . . are the lifecycles for laptops these days so short that they are unsupported even this fast? . . . I did see a few other sites selling the replacement DVD as new (presumably) for US$300, but none were in stock. . . . if I have no other alternatives, is a DVD the sort of part that is durable enough to reliably purchase used? Thanks!
