DVD burns & non-readable DVD's

(moderators - please relocate this question to appropriate place, this seemed the best spot)
I'm having trouble getting freshly burned DVD's to mount it the two newest macs that we have in-house:
- Dual 1.25 Ghz G4 tower 'mirror door', running OS 10.3.9, 1.25GB RAM
- iMac 1.8 Ghz G5, running OS 10.3.9, 768GB RAM
I burn DVD's on our Dual 2Ghz G5 Server (running Server 10.3.9)
these DVD's sometimes mount (after a looooong wait) or not at all
same DVD that fails will mount on our old 400GHz G4 'YIKES' ???
same DVD will mount on the server
Is the DVD firmware in OS X Server 10.3.9 different from the one in OS X 10.3.9
solutions??
- is there a DVD firmware upgrade somewhere on the apple site (I check the upgrades religiously)
- can it be a bad batch of DVD's (seems really, really iffy)
suggestions anyone?

Hello Debbie,
did you create the disk image? If so, did you test it with DVD Player?
If the disk image plays fine in DVD Player, the problem is in the burn pocess itself. What DVD media did you use and at what speed did you burn? You might want to try another brand - Verbatim DVD-R is first choice around here, but Ritek and Taiyo Yuden also make very good discs.
You also need to make sure the DVDs are compatible with slow burning (e.g. 1-4x). Try burning at the slowest possible speed (1x if possible).

Another thing you can try is a cleaning disc. Burners get a little dusty over time and if the lens is not perfectly clean, that might lead to burn errors.

  • Burning DVD in Lion Problems. Keep getting REGION ERRORS in SONY DVD PLAYER @ playback. Settings correct. Leopard burns fine with all media. Lion does not with TOAST. DVDSTYLER burns a readable disk.

I have tried several types of media in a brand new (less than 2 months old) 27" iMac running the latest version of Lion. It will not burn a standalone DVD player readable disk. I am in North America and buring in NTSC format. Settings are set properly. Buring at BEST speed - states its burning at 3x. I have tested SONY printable DVD's +R and Verbatim non printable -R disks in Lion with Roxio Toast 8 & 10. No luck. DVDSTYLER burns a readable disk, but not realy happy about the look and functionality.
I am getting REGION LIMITATION errors in the SONY and other stand alone DVD Players.
Disk plays in XBox 360 and laptop PC also.
I am set to region 1.
AS I stated, DVDSTYLER does burn a readable disk, the problem seems to be with TOAST and LION ?
My old 21" iMac running Leopard 10.5.8 has no problems with burning. Any media, Toast 8, disks perform just fine.
    Any suggestions ?
My only solution is to do the editing of movies I need to do on the 27" and transfer them to the 21" for burning.
    lame
Or use the sub par DVDSTYLER program.
    acceptable but disappointing.
    ideas ?

SONY DVD player is brand spankin new.
    Have not tried Imation disks.
Its just puzzling that Leopard and Toast 8 produces a DVD where as Lion and Toast 8 produces a coaster.
I tried not printiable Verbatims. Same result.
Need printables for the projects that I do.
    Appreciate the suggetsions.
Will be methodically dilligent and post any results here.
any help from any others would be appreciated.

  • Data should be in non readable format in payload-- SXMB_MONI

    Hi All;
I have a scenario where I need to send MT103 file to bank with digital signature and this configuration is done and working good.I have a new requirement, that the payload data/content should not be in readable format in SXMB_MONI. This is where I am not able to succeed. In RWB the data is not in readable format, so there is no issue.
    I have the following options with me;
1.Create a copy of SXMB_MONI & add authorization object only for not to display payload content.
2.Create a new role with less privilege for XI Monitoring and assign this to all the users. (even XI administrator will have less privilege which is not good)
3.Do the signature part in R/3 before XI is picking. (so that the data is not readable , ABAP development not preferred ).
4.Send the file in Binary Format to bank.  (Bank rejected this option, because they donu2019t support this process)
5.Create a Internal FTPS site. MT103 file will be placed in FTPS site folder. When XI picks the file adds the digital signature in (sender CC).(I have a doubt, will the data be in non readable format in SXMB_MONI?)
If you know any better/preferred solution, please let me know.
    Thanks;

  • Safari displays PDF as non-readable text

Recently when I open a PDF file in Safari it displays as non-readable text. How can this be fixed?

After some further research I resolved the problem.  The Adobe Acrobat Reader installation was indeed the culprit.  I had to unlock and allow myself to access as a root user on the Mac.  Then I searched the \Library file for the "Internet Plug-ins" folder.  I created a new "Internet Plug-ins Disabled" folder and moved the following 2 Adobe plug-in files 1.  AdobePDFViewer.plugin; 2. AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin to the Disabled file I just created; or you can move those two files into the trash folder.  Either way should work.  I did actually have to do both, becasue the 2 files copied rather than moved.   Most important after performing this task REMEMBER to LOCK the root user before resuming normal work on your computer.  Root user access has a lot of power and can yield a lot of havock if you inadvertently forget and have left in unlocked.

  • Can't burn a readable DVD

    Using Elements 7...
I just bought his to try my hand an some vacation videos... last time I used Elements was v3!
Anyway I can't for the life of me burn a DVD that is readable once it is finished. I'm using some older 4x DVD+R media. Everything seems to go well in the burining process, but when I try to access it I cannot. From the computer, I get an error message. From a normal DVD player, it tells me the disc is not readable. From a bluray player, ditto,
I've also tried buring without chapter markers, and with. No difference. Any ideas?
While I write this I'm trying to 'share' as a flash file.
    Thanks,
    Denton

Good luck with the new equipment.
Using 4x blank media should not be a problem, in and of itself. The brand, however, can make all the difference in the world.
As Steve is, I am a fan of Verbatim. I use them for all of my DVD-9 (DL) media, and Taiyo Yuden for all DVD-5's. With ~1500 DVD's burned, I have never had a failure, nor have I had a single returned disc. After several years, those two brands are 100%. It cannot get better than that.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Satellite 2450-114 : Non readable DVD-RW with SDR-6012 DVD drive

    Hello,
I have bought Verbatim DVD-RW (media code : MCC 01RW4X) but it cannot be read by the Toshiba SD-R6012 DVD drive of my Satellite laptop 2450-114.
However I have the latest official firmware which is the number 1334.
Is there a way to fix it?
    Thank you
    Best regards.

Can your notebook read original DVDs (movies) or maybe DVD-R medias?

  • Pantone Plus colours in PSD causing non-readable files in Illustrator

    Hi
We have recently installed the new Pantone Plus colour series, but we now get the message "File not readable" on files that contain psd links which contain spot channels. I have seen this same problem on other forums but the explanation is to change the Spot channel colour to the Plus Series colour book in photoshop so it matches the new colour book in Illustrator. But when we do this we still get the "File not readable" message because the Illustrator file retains the old spot from the old Photoshop Pantone colour library until the newly saved link is placed in, the problem being you can't open the file to place the new link in!!!! This is crazy!!
To get around this we have had to re-install the old colour books to open up old files, but if we then have to work on a job with a Plus colour we have to re-load the Plus series. This isn't fun.
This has a massive impact on all our archived work which we regulary use to do updates. Will Abobe be bringing out a fix for this anytime soon? This is a major issue for our studio, it is already causing us wasted time.
    Thanks
    Mike

Surely Adobe can come up with a fix for this though?
Problem is we've been using them for a month or so, so if we revert back to the old libraries all the files we've been working on for the last month we will now have issues opening. So do we keep on using in the hope that Adobe will come out with a fix, or do we remove and deal with the mess that that's going to cause.

  • Blu-Ray build results in a non-readable / corrupt iso-image

    Hello
I have been working on a project that was created with PP CS5.5 using Windows 7 x64. The PP project has various footages in 1080p, mostly from Panasonic HDC-SD900 with 1080p 50p AVCHD material. There are some clips that were shot with Canon EOS 7D, and a crappy helmet camera. All the sequences were exported using H.264 Blu-Ray that results in m4v & wav files.
Everything works fine in Encore, even when previewing and checking the project, but when I build it to an image and mount it, windows can't read the image. It says it's ureadable / corrupt. I've tried to mount the image with three other computers, using Virtual Clone Drive and Daemon Tools.
Before I started to work on this project, I created a small test-image with Encore that had a few seconds worth of material from the SD900 just to see how blu-ray image building works, and it worked fine.
I've tried to change the BR-R size to 50GB in Encore, but I get same results. This was the only thing that came to mind, because the project output size was very close to 25GB.
I tried googling and searching this forum, but to no avail...
    Please help.

  • How burn data CD or DVD with documents/songs not in iTunes Library?

How do I burn data CD/DVD with items not located in iTunes Library? Prior to the update to iTunes 8.0.2, I could burn Data CDs/DVD from my desktop - these were documents files, and audiobooks/songs not located in iTunes Library. Now I can't get the burn preferences window to show up. Something has changed in the iTunes 8.0.2 update which keeps me from burning anything that is not in iTunes library. Please advise. Thank you.

    Dear Zevoneer,
As a test, I created a New Burn Folder on the desktop, transferred aliases for music and documents not in iTunes Library, totaling about 2.5GB. I burned all on to a 4.7 GB DVD-R. Everything burned properly and quickly as usual. And each item is an accurate replica of my files.
Perhaps I was wrong in thinking that a few months ago when I burned non-iTunes Library items, I always got a Burn Preferences Window on my desktop. No matter, it all went well. And I also learned that we now burn songs in iTunes only via the playlist window, where "Burn" brings on the Burn preferences choices.
    Thank you for your help.

  • My iMac is not reading photo dvds

    Hi:
I am relatively new to Apple so, forgive me if this an obvious question. I have several photo cds and dvds from various sources that are not being read by the iMac. When the disc is loaded into the iMac, I receive a message that I have inserted a blank disc. However, if I load the same disc in another computer the photo images appear. Help! Thanks in advance for any guidance.

If the CDs & DVDs system preference panel can't be changed
to allow these to do more for you, something else is required.
Could be the discs these image files are on were not formated
to an open standard the Mac can readily see; perhaps they are
of a type of format requiring a third party or other software to
open and use in the Mac. Odd that they'd be seen as blank.
There are freeware and shareware types of software available
for the Mac which may help; and then you'd have to choose
a software different than the native one selected as the OSX
    default for those discs.
Are these photo discs ones with Kodak or other proprietary
data on them needed to see the stuff that's stored there?
This is a bit of a mystery to me. I have limited experience
with someone else's DVD photo media; I have two digital
cameras and almost no other images (from film) on disc.
And I have saved a few thousand images to CD-RW or
CD-R media, but have chosen a Mac + PC format to do it.
Maybe someone you know has a PC sitting around, between
crashes, that is hoping to save the day? Could be you need
to get some other software or maybe check the settings on
your CD & DVD system control preference, to see if there is
a built-in way to tell what is on those discs. If they are of a
proprietary format, the files could be converted and saved
again into a folder, then burned to another disc format.
Are there any identifiers on these non-readable in Mac image
discs? Sometimes, a brand such as Kodak can invite you to
search their site for free software players or editors which may
allow the user access into a proprietary format. I did that once.
    {Hopefully someone who has solved this issue will see this.}
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • DVD R discs not being read

Hi I have a SunFire V215 SPARC server currently running Solaris 10 11/06. I'm trying to upgrade to Solaris 10 8/11 and I've burnt the DVD image onto a DVD-R and DVD+R disc. The problem I'm having is the server will just not recognise the discs and refuses to mount them or show anything from them. The system has been setup (not by me I'm a newbie) so that when you insert a CD or DVD it auto mounts and appears on the desktop. When I insert the original Solaris 10 11/06 DVD which is an original ORACLE factory pressed DVD it loads up fine. I asked ORACLE to send me the original media but all they did was burnt the image onto a DVD R and sent that to me and that doesn't load either. All factory pressed DVDs work fine. DVD R discs don't. At first I thought faulty hardware (PANASONIC) so ORACLE sent me a new player (TEAC) but that does exactly the same. I'm guessing I'm missing a patch or some hardware configuration setting but have no idea what it is. ORACLE support takes days to respond to any queries and I'm lost as to what to try next. Any advice please? Many Thanks in advance.
Edited by: sasmj on 21-Dec-2011 09:19

Sorry, I probably didn't make it clear. The DVD drive does not read ANY DVD R disc, regardless of manufacturer and regardless of whether -R or +R. The disc which ORACLE sent me early this week for SOLARIS 10 8/11 update was just another DVD R disc (you can tell because when you flip it over you can clearly see the burn marks on the underside of the DVD). The original SOLARIS 10 11/06 came on a factory pressed DVD as did the Developer Tools. Both these discs are read fine by both V215 and V880 servers. I do not have any other non bootable DVD R discs that I can try.
There are no messages in /var/adm/messages when inserting any non-readable DVD R disc.
Alan, the fact that you have the same model of DVD drive makes me think that the problem lies with the architecture of the V215 and V880 servers. Especially judging by what user5287726 mentioned. I'm assuming you don't have either of these servers? Thanks.

  • Satellite A60: Can't read self-created DVDs

    All,
    I have a Satellite A60 with UJDA760 CDRW/DVD drive.
The drive won't read DVDs (DVD+R not at all, DVD-R sometimes (if the drive is cold(?!?))).
Can this be a firmware problem? And if so, does anyone know, where I can find a firmware update for this drive? (I tried the firmware-na.zip pack from the Toshiba web site, but an update for the drive is not available)
The drive reads CDs without problems.
    Thanks for any comments!
    Wutz

    Hello,
Here is the Firmware update for your A60. I hope this helps to resolve any issues you have. A tip is to make sure that you do not create multisession DVD's. This can render them non-readable. It is a good idea to close all DVD's after you burn them so this does not occur. I hope this fixes any problems you happen to have.
