DVD/CD Region setting problem

I have a HP notebook with a Toshiba MK 8025GAS master DVD/CD drive with the slave TSST Corp CD/DVD TS-L532M I am having trouble changing the region settings as it states I have 1 change left but when I try to change the setting from Region 1 to Region 4, I get the responce "Unable to update region setting. Make sure the drive contains a region 4 media and you have administrative privilege". Can anyone please advise me what I can do about this? Thank you.

Hi,
The first thing to try is to choose a different Region 4 DVD and see if this works, sometimes you have to try several before finding one that works when resetting the Region Code of the CD/DVD Rom.
Best wishes,

  • DVD region setting problem

    My DVD player is set to region 1... It is the last time i can change it and I need to change it to region 2 to watch a movie.. but when i try to change it, the DVD player application just crashes and nothing happens, can anybody help please??

    Which OS? If you're on 10.8 there's an update... fixed my bug.

  • How many times can I change the DVD Player region setting?

    I Plugged in my external DVD and started to play a DVD disc. It asked me to setup a region for my DVD player. As far as I know there is a limit for this setting. Is it also true with MAC drive on a MAc invironment? Thanks.

    Upto 5 times.

  • DVD player region permanently set

    I recently bought a used MacBook.  The optical drive handles music CDs, CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs fine, but it won't play movie DVDs.  Apparently the previous owner(s) changed the DVD region setting five times, so it is now permanently set to something other than Zone 1 (North America).
    My question is:  what's the fix for this?  I'm betting just reinstalling the DVD Player software won't reset the region.  Will replacing the Superdrive with a new one solve the problem, or is there some software setting somewhere in addition to the hardware?

    Well, as usual nobody could help me so I found my own fix.  The answer is that the setting is the firmware of the DVD drive.
    There is a fix, but it's probably illegal.  I finally found the right combination of free downloads to "flash" the firmware and replace it with a region-free version.  There were many warnings about bad things that could happen, but since my DVD drive was already basically worthless I didn't have much to lose.
    1.  Use "DVD Info X" to verify the firmware settings.
    2.  Download the firmware hacks, but they only work in Tiger (OS 10.4)
    3.  Download "Matsushita Flasher" which allows the hacks to run in 10.6
    4.  Download "RegionX" which allows you to manually set the region code once the hacks have been applied.
    Problem solved.

    At first I must say that notebook manufacturer is responsible for all your notebook issues and not manufacturer for each hardware component.
    I have Toshiba notebook and inside is Samsung HDD. If I have problems with it I dont contact Samsung but Toshiba.
    You know what I mean?
    Back to your question: do you (your account) have administrative privilege?

  • I have a mid 2010 macbook pro laptop can i play a region 2 NTSC format dvd on it without problems?

    DVD Player: About DVD-Video Regions
    Region encoding is the mechanism that enables motion picture studios to control the worldwide release of their movies. It is required by the DVD Forum (http://www.dvdforum.org/forum.shtml) in all commercial hardware DVD players. Every DVD-Video disc contains one byte of data representing a region code, which limits where the disc can be played.

    Once you have set he region in DVD Player five times it cannot be changed.
    Instead, use VLC to view videos from different regions:

  • Satellite L310-D4011: How to reset the DVD Region setting to 0?

    Dear All,
    I have a Satellite L310 D4011 machine which I recently purchased in which I installed a DVD player software.
    I run WinXP. A friend of mine played a music video from UK (Mccartney Live in Red Square) in the DVD player and the original region setting which was at 0 with 5 changes remaining, has gone to 4 changes remaining and the region is now set at 2. I am in India where the region for DVD is 5. If I change to 5, I lose another change option.
    I do not want to let my DVD ROM get stuck at 0 options left and in some other region.
    Can anyone give me an advice to reset the region back to Zero with five options remaining - the way it was when I bought the laptop?
    I shall be extremely grateful. Will the vendor from whom I purchased the laptop be able to set it back to factory setting?
    Best wishes

    Hello
    In my opinion Toshiba has nothing to do with it. To protect movie industry and their interests all notebook manufacturers offer optical disc drives where you can watch movies with different country code but 5 times only. The last chosen region code will be set as default. So if you have 4 more codes there is no reason for panic. Just continue to watch movies from your favourite region area.
    I am 100% sure that Toshiba service or vendor where you purchased your notebook will say that they have nothing to do with it. In drive properties you have clear statement how it works.
    Anyway you can try to contact them and ask for help.

  • DVD Region Setting On The Superdrive

    Hi guys... having bought my MBP in the States, of course the DVD player is set to Region1 by default. I wondered if there was anyway to change that in order to enable me to play any region without restrictions?
    Or do I have to download a third party DVD player? If so is there a reputable one that works with MBP?
    Many thanks in advance for any input...

    Carl is not exactly correct.
    He is correct that the Apple DVD Drive/Player is capable of playing DVDs from any region out of the box.
    This region code is set when you try to play your first DVD. Then you have 5 more times to change the region code.
    On the 5th time the region code will be lock to the Region you have set it to.
    Detail explanation can be found in Apple's Support Article: "DVD Player: About DVD-Video Regions".
    Your alternative is to use what Bob Maher had suggested, the program called "VLC Media Player" or "MPlayer
    I hope this helps.

  • Help with dvd drive - region code error

    Hi, I really need to change the drive region code on my Ibook G4 (OS X 10.4.10) back to Region 2. I'm allowed to change it one last time.
    But the trouble is, when I try and change it and click 'set drive region' it just comes up with an error message -70001, 'There was a problem changing the drive region code.'
    I've reset the PMU and PRAM/NVRAM but it still does it.
    Can anybody help me at all? It's driving me mad, I was banking on being able to change it back to my Region one last time...

    Insert a DVD which is set to play in only one region; if you try using up your last change with a DVD that can play in some but not all regions, that error message will appear. Many DVDs which are set to play in region 2 will also play in region 4.

  • Please how can I download the media that can help me change my DVD from region 5 to region 2

    please how can I change my DVD region 5 to region 2? it is asking me for media

    Hi,
    Before changing this, you have only 5 changes you can make to the region setting before the drive locks on the last one chosen - so this should not be done just to play one disc.
    To change the Region, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up DVD/CD-ROM drives.  Right click on the device listed here and click the DVD Region tab.  Choose the country you are that requires region 2 ( ie United Kingdom ) and click OK.  Click positively to any remaining open windows and then restart the notebook.
    Regards,

  • Applet doesn't work if regional setting is not US.

    Hi
    Mine applet works file if the regional setting is English (US). But If the regional setting is changed to French or japnese it gives problem due to diffrent time Zone.
    ex. 20-MAY-2004 as per US setting is interpreted as 21-MAY-2004 in French regional setting
    Below is the methods which give value as "20-MAY-2004" in US regional setting ( set from control panel to English US) but give value as 21-MAY-2004 if regional setting is changed to French.
    public String FindCtWeekEndingDate() {
    String sWkEndingDate = null;
    String sWkEnding =
    "Select TO_CHAR(trunc(sysdate, 'DY'), 'DD-MON-RRRR') from dual";
    PreparedStatement PSWkEnding;
    ResultSet RSWkEnding;
    try {
    PSWkEnding = conn.prepareStatement(sWkEnding);
    sWkEndingDate = "";
    RSWkEnding = PSWkEnding.executeQuery();
    if(RSWkEnding.next()) {
    sWkEnding = RSWkEnding.getString(1).toUpperCase(Locale.US);
    System.out.println(" Before Closing...###### " +RSWkEnding.getString(1).toUpperCase(Locale.US));
    PSWkEnding.close();
    System.out.println(" Before Returing .......#####"+sWkEnding);
    return sWkEnding;
    else {
    PSWkEnding.close();
    return null;
    catch (Exception e) {
    return null;
    } /* End if FindCtWeekEndingDate */
    Locale.US doesn't helpout in this case and giving same results.
    Any idea what need to donne...
    Thanks,
    Ashu

    Hi,
    I am not sure why you have to use SQL to get week end date
    You can do it with much ease using Java Calendar class
    Here is sample code of getting the weekend date ....
    // get the current date
    Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
    // set the week starting
    calendar.setFirstDayOfWeek(Calendar.SUNDAY);
    // set the day of the week as week end and get the date
    calendar.set(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK,Calendar.SATURDAY);
    // you can also get the month / year
    System.out.println(" weekend day is " + calendar.get(Calendar.DATE));
    If you decide to create a date-time formatter with a specific format pattern for a specific locale, you can do so with:
    new SimpleDateFormat(aPattern, new DateFormatSymbols(aLocale)).

  • Switching the DVD drive region code - Is there a workaround?

    Hi - would appreciate a confirmation or helpful hints how to circumvent the regional settings.
    I understand from the Apple doc, http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60183, that the regional coding is set in the firmware of the drive and not linked to the player (as I had apparently incorrectly surmised). If this is the case, then installing an additional player such as the VLC media player for Mac OS X (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html) to use for say Region 1 discs, and maintaining Apple's DVD Player set for Region 2 discs would not prevent the drive from freezing the 5th time a different region coded disc is slid into the drive.
    Right?
    If so, the only work around would be to install an external DVD drive to set to an alternative region, right? Or does somebody know a cute way to disable the firmware coding and set the drive to multiple regions. This must be possible because DVD players are available commercially which have been set to region code 0.
    I have 2 changes left ... before the big freeze. Thanks

    To Apple Discussions!
    It has been reported that VLC overrides the 5 region code option. You will need to read their documention on their website. Otherwise................
    You can change the computers region "only 5 times". Then it's locked in the 5th version/region (until you erase your HD & start all over.).
