From my experience it sounds like you have a faulty drive. Replacement would be the option.

  • DVD RAM Drive issue

We have a macbook pro with 2 gig of RAM and osx tiger 10.4.8. We have a DVD RAM drive due to the nature of our work. This drive always seemed to take longer to sin up thn other drives but I just assumed this was o.k Now the drive simply spits all DVD types out, but plays CD's just fine which seems odd to us. We would like to know if it could be someting simple before we send it away to apple. Any suggestions please?

  • CD/DVD Disc Drive Issues

I'm having trouble with my CD/DVD disc drive.. it won't load a disc, CD nor DVD. I put it in the slot, but it doesn't catch and get pulled in. Has anyone experienced this problem and found a fix? I'm hoping that the motor isn't dead!
    Thanks,

It may just be time to replace your SuperDrive. Take it into an Apple Store for diagnostics and if they tell you that the SD has bitten the bullet (which they do sometimes) then you should have it replaced.

  • DVD RW Drive Issues from New iTunes download

I just downloaded the new version of iTunes 6.0.5.20 and now everytime that I start up my computer the DVD RW drive opens up by itself. Also, whenever I try to press the button to open it during normal computer operation, it does not open.
Any help with this would be great and I would appreciate it, thanks.

  • Dvd/cdr drive scratches DVD's and cd's

I have had my MBP for a little over 2 months and have loved it so far. It works great except for it has scratched at least 5 DVD's at different times. Some work fine but I refuse to load a CD or DVD in the drive anymore. What happens is it will be playing a DVD or CD and get about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through the disc and then start spinning faster and will stop playing the dvd or cd. At that point it makes it nearly impossible to eject it until I do a hard restart. When i look at the bottom of the disc after it has been ejected, there is a almost perfect cylindrical scratch about 3/4" from the edge of the disc. I Work as a concert sound engineer and record shows onto my laptop and then have to burn the show discs after the show. Because of this issue I have bought a external DVD/ CD burner. Not something you should have to do after paying nearly $3000 for the supped up model of a MBP. Also, upon calling apple for service or inquiry, the first thing the lady asked was if I had the apple protection plan for my MBP. I did buy the protection plan when I bought my computer, but why should that matter when calling for assistance. I should have 1 year support even if i had not bought the protection plan. In any case, the lady told me that they are not responsible for any damage the computer has done to cd's or DVD's and that I will need at least 14 business days to send it off. Being that this is my work computer, and I am on the road on tour most of the year, that is going to be hard to do. Also, she said I should buy a back up hard drive to back up my MBP before I send it back because it may be reformatted. Isn't that convenient. Spend even more money that I shouldn't have to. Don't get me wrong, I do love apple products, and i do understand that there will be small issues here and there and things do break, but anytime I deal with Apple customer support, whether it be ipod issues in the past or my current problem, it makes me reconsider ever buying an apple product. I'm done venting..... So, does anyone else out there have the same issue with the superdrive scratching discs.
    thanks

Your SuperDrive is defective. Apple has offered to repair it. I'm not sure what the problem is or what your purpose in posting is...other than, perhaps, to troll.
That said, it is always advisable to back up a drive before sending a machine in for repair; the odds are that Apple will not need to reformat it, but why take the chance? You don't need to back up your machine to an external hard-drive -- you can easily copy your documents to a CD or DVD (since you admit the drive works sometimes). That said, you can get a 250GB external hard drive for $100 -- a reasonable investment for piece of mind. Hard drives fail. It is not a question of it, but when. Do you really never intend to back up your machine?
If you have a local Apple retail store, make an appointment with a Genius there, show him/her the issue, and ask that the store order a replacement part in. They can call you when it arrives and do the repair on-site minimizing your time without your machine.
If there are no stores nearby, then go with the Apple repair service. Turnaround on most repairs is quite fast -- I've never had to wait 14 business days for any repair, on any machine from Apple, including my MBP.
Net-net: Apple is honoring its warranty. If you don't like the terms of said warranty, you should have considered that when buying the machine.

  • DVD/CD Driver issue HT-DT-ST-DVDRAM GMA-4082N ATA Device

In Device Manager, error message, "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)," displays.  I have uninstalled, and reinstalled from the Lenovo site, but it did not resolve.  The drive physically works.  In other words, the tray comes out, accepts the disc, and then the light flashes on the outside, and the spinning noise can be heard.  This seems to be exclusively related to the driver (unless there are other problems with the hardware).  What can I do?

One more thing, the O/S is Windows Vista Home.  Thank you in advance for any assistance with this driver prob.

  • Can't install CS3 Upgrade on NEW iMac 24". An Imac DVD drive issue?

My CS3 Design Premium Upgrade CD fails to install Photoshop on my BRAND NEW iMac yet it is able to install everything else on the CS3 disc. I just bought this iMac yesterday and CS2/CS3 Upgrade are the FIRST things I installed (besides updates) when I turned it on. I'm still using 10.4.10.
I searched through the Adobe forums and the internet as to how others with the same issue have dealt with the problem, but it seems the most common reason is that people had installed Photoshop CS3 beta previously as well as older Flash/Acrobat plug-ins conflicting with the installation process. Further, these causes seem to be effecting Windows users.
So a few hours ago I tried to COPY the upgrade CD contents to my hard disk, I get the message:
"The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in 'AdobePhotoshop 10en_US.dmg' could not be read or written. (Error code -36)."
This procedure of copying to the disk (and the resulting error message) is SPECIFICALLY addressed in the Adobe support pages TechNotes:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401429&sliceId=2
The page says that it may be a drive issue that is causing the problem. Of the 7 possible solutions given on the page, I've narrowed it down to only 1 option left (but I can't try it since I don't have another Mac!):
"*Solution 4*: Copy the software to the hard drive of a different computer.
*If the software copies successfully, the model of DVD drive on your original computer might not be able to read the DVD. Contact the DVD drive or computer manufacturer for any updates that might be available.*"
But what's funny (or annoying rather) is, I had a 20" Alum 2.4 iMac earlier this year (returned because of screen problem), and the CS3 upgrade installed without any problems on it!..??? And according to the iMac specs, the 20" and 24" models both have the same DVD drive make right?
Any ideas??? Are there other 24" iMac users who are experiencing similar problems? If not, then I guess I may have to return yet another iMac...which I'm reluctant to do since this screen is PERFECT! I'm scared to get another iMac with the dreaded screen gradient issue.

    I just solved the problem.
I tried copying the DVD files to the hard disk about 7-8 more times. The last try SUCCESSFULLY copied to the disk and I was able to install Photoshop CS3.
    Yay.

  • Apple dvd player / external dvd drive issue

i recently bought a LaCie d2 external dvd drive, since my desktop g4 only has an internal cdr drive. I am running osx 10.4.3, which i installed through this dvd drive. yet now, when i put a DVD movie into the drive and try to open Apple DVD Player, it says
"There was an initialization error. A valid DVD drive could not be found. [-70012]"
i know this is a third party drive, but can anyone help me out? pleeeease?

This is to be expected. DVD Player will only work
with an external DVD drive if the Mac has an internal
    DVD drive.
However you may overcome this limitation using PlayerPatc
    h.
I had the same problem as above (error code [-70012])... I downloaded this patch for my LG external DVD/RW Model GSA-2166D and it worked perfectly... can now play DVDs...
It's people like you who make being part of the mac community a joy!
Now I just need to find a patch to get the Light Scribe to work...
    Thanks!

  • ITunes for 64bit Windows 7 Driver/CD/DVD/Drive Issues-

    Hi There
I am sure that there are many many users out there suffering the same frustration as me in regard to ITunes just not working properly with Windoews 7 (64Bit).
I have been trying to solve the mystery of "ITunes for Windows Registry Settings Warning When Opening Itunes.
I have tried all the recommended actions to correct this problem without any success and I do mean ALL.
Below is a screen shot of my registry, can anyone see anything wrong with it?
In the meantime (Last four months) I have stopped using ITunes and instead have used Digital 7, this will be my very last attempt to get ITunes working properly, failure will mean consigning ITunes to the same place as any other Software that does not do wshat it says on the can.
    I hope someone can help.

That's good that it is in device manager, but what about in Computer with the rest of the drivers?
Also, are the drives listed in Computer and device manager or just device manager?
I want to verify if the symptoms are present for a particular software issue before looking at other issues.  I really doubt it is a driver issue at this point.  If it was, then I suspect the issue would be present from day one.
It could be that the lens has dust buildup preventing it from working properly.  They do make CD cleaning kits that have a special CD designed to clean the laser as it passes over the lens.  If you happen to have one of these, or access to one, I recommend trying this step to make sure it isn't as simple as dust buildup interfering with the laser.
It could also be hardware failure, but I would like to try a few other steps before coming to that conclusion.
It may be worth reviewing this document as it covers a lot of the most common issues behind DVD drive issues. Feel free to skip any steps you have already tried.
    Let me know what happens.

The CD is ejected after a short while and never mounted. I have cleaned the optics of the CD drive and reset my PRAM.
Has anybody discovered a complete solution for this problem.

  • On windows 8 and itunes I have importing problems the DVD is only reading the music cd from 1.5x to 4.0x for 95% of the time, it does hit speeds of 30x for the other 5% of the time. Is it a driver issue with the DVD or is it  a windows 8 issue?

No. You have no alternative but to plug it into a computer running iTunes and restore it.

  • Can anyone point me in the right direction for the link to download Acrobat 9 Standard?  I found the link to download 9 Pro but not standard.  Old computer crashed and new computer does not have a CDR/DVD rom drive.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for the link to download Acrobat 9 Standard.  I found the link to download 9 Pro but not standard.  Old computer crashed and new computer does not have a CDR/DVD rom drive.

    Hi,
Standard or Pro would be licensed through your serial number, the download link and downloaded file would be the same for both of them.
Pro or Standard would be determined after you put in your serial number.
    Download Acrobat products | 9, 8

  • OPTIARC-AD7560A-D803.exe firmware and CRC/installation issues for DvD RW drive

Does anyone happen to know if the "OPTIARC-AD7560A-D803.exe" file is still available? If so, where?
The file seems necessary to correct issues with my DVD RW drive, which experiences unfounded CRC errors when I try to install certain software from CD.
The download link for this file was very easy to find on Lenovo's support website, but unfortunately the link produces what seems to be a 404 error or notice of discontinuation provided in cantonese.
I know I need this file- if it is no longer supported by Lenovo, is there any place where I can download either that file or some equivalent new firmware to end the CRC errors?
    Thanks!

    Solved!

Next day - Nevermind, for whatever reason I no longer get the odd message and was able to download the file easily. Thanks!

  • G505 DVD/CD Drive and Webcam issues.

    Hello.
I have a G505 Lenovo Laptop with the Windows 8.1 Update and I have been ahving issues with the DVD/CD drive, and more recently the Webcam.
The DVD/CD drive doesn't seem to be recognized by the computer despite it coming with the computer I bought. I originally thought it was a faulty connection, but after taking it out, cleaning it and putting it back in the problem persisted. I was told that maybe a program was not letting the drive work, but I have several programs that can detect a disk when instereted so now I don't know what the problem is.
More recently, my internal webcam has stopped working. The light next to the webcam usually comes on at start-up, but now it doesn't even do that. I try going on skype or using the camera app, but all I get is a "Connect a camera to get started". I tried download the camera driver for Windows 8.1 on the Drivers & Downloads page, but everytime I try installing it it says that there is no driver to install.
I also checked the Device Manager to see if maybe the drivers were not installed, but the CD/DVD section doesn't even appear! Under the "Audio, video, and game controllers", only Audio and game controllers appear (Unless that is not the right section).
Does anyone know what's going on? I could really use some help

I had the same problem with the cd not working and i downloaded something that fixed it but i can not remember what.
    Now it is bad aagain.
    O Well

  • Any solution to DVD drive issue post Lion install yet?

Any solution to DVD drive issue post Lion install yet?

Since installing Lion no DVDs are being read by the superdrive, this is a problem that has been highlighted by quite a lot of people.
    CDs are being read fine.
After inserting the DVD there is some noise, sounds like it is trying to pickup the DVD then spits it back out.
