Dvd copy of Lion OS

Hi,
The 2011 late macs doesn't come with a Lion OS DVD and after a several search I got a little bit confused about creating a DVD without having to purchase anything from the applestore. Is it possible to create a copy of Lion from my mac or do I have to buy it from the applestore to do it?

Is there a way to make a dvd Boot Start Up Copy for Lion 7.4.1 ? on a MAC PRO 2011 ? I only have the Newest
Lion Thumb Drive 7.0 and will not allow me to ever Reinstall my MAC. Which I like to do from time to time....
Is the Thumb Drive Suppose to reinstall the entire computer or just upgrade ? Apple Store does not know what
level each customer is at so the Thumb Drives must Totally Start from Scratch.

The procedure describes how to create a bootable USB flash drive, but the procedure to create a bootable DVD is similar. A DVD will take much, much longer to boot, so the USB flash drive method is preferred.
By the way, realize that you do not need to do this if your HD needs to be replaced. As long as you have a fairly fast wireless connection you need nothing else. The download itself might take one or two hours on a ± 10 Mbps connection.

Making a bootable copy of Lion from pre-installed OS on new iMac

How do I make a bootable copy of Lion from a new iMac that had Lion pre-nstalled at purchase? I would like to create a back up copy on an external drive for 2 reasons. First, I want to have an external copy in case there is an issue on the iMac in the future. Second, I would like to upgrade my Mac Book Pro which is currently running 10.5.8 to Lion. I do not want to purchase a flash drive copy of Lion from Apple after spending the money to buy a new iMac.
I could use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable copy of my iMac, and afterwards install the copy on the Mac Book Pro. This would take much more time, and I still wouldn't have a back up copy of Lion on an external drive.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, in advance.

FWIW, you need both Snow Leopard ($20 USD) and Lion ($30 USD) to upgrade the MBP. Both are only available from Apple's online store's telesales agents: 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775. Snow Leopard comes on a DVD, but for Lion, you'll get a redemptions code via e-mail and need to DL it from the Mac Apple Store after installing SL and updating to 10.6.6+. If you're outside the US, then try the appropriate international number.
If you go that route, quit the installer after it DLs and save a copy to a safe place, since the ill-designed installer deletes itself during the installation process, necessitating wasting resources if you need to reinstall or restore. With a saved copy, you can reinstall w/o wasting any time, bandwidth, or electricity. The Lion installer is 3.6+ GB, which takes over an hour to DL with a high-speed connection at 10 Mbps.

Hi, the last install dvd that came out for mac's was Snow Leopard,10.6.3. Lion is a download from apple. You cannot just install it over Yosemite. You would have to backup your drive to save files you want and do a clean install. You might want to look into getting more memory. How do i make abackup copy of Lion with a UBS2?

I am thinking about downloading Lion, i do not have a external harddrive. So i need to make a backup copy. I have a brand new unused Kingston USB. Once i have copied the software to the USB, where do I install it from? The copy on my USB? Or the original on my desktop? If you can offer any advice on this procedure, I would be grateful because i hardly ever download, and i've never copied anything of this importance before.

When you download Lion it will put the installer in your Applications folder and present you with an 'install Lion window'. Before clicking on the install screen copy the Lion installer to the USB drive (USB drive needs to have at least 4gb of available space). Eject the USB stick and continue with the installation. Once the Lion install is finished the installer in the applications folder will disappear so you are wise to copy it first.
Edit: As a side note, from your description it sounds as though you don't have an external back-up of all the important data on your Mac. I'd really recommend getting an external and at least keep a Time Machine backup.
Legend has it that there are two types of disk drive - one that has failed and one that hasn't failed yet. Having a backup in place will save you a world of pain. I know this for a fact .

Music is not included in the backup (and nor are films or tv shows), only the contents of third-party apps are included. Did you not do File > Transfer Purchases when connected to your computer's iTunes to copy your iTunes purchases over, and/or have you not got a backup copy of your music somewhere e.g. on an external drive ?

If you have a way to wipe 10.6.8 off, you can then reboot your machine (with no OS) and since your system came preinstalled with Lion, Internet Recovery should occur which will boot to Apple's servers into a Recovery HD for you to redownload and install Lion.
To be safe I would first make a clone of the current installation using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!. This way you have a way to recover.

Download again, move the existing file out of the applications folder first.

after making the photo slide show, i clicked share>export movie. after which i burned using toast. the file became a .mov. i tried playing it in my mac and it worked. my fear now is will it also play in a regular dvd?... i read from google that mov files won't run in dvd players. what format should i convert it to so it'll play in a dvd player. can you suggest a faster way i can burn my projects for it takes me almost an hour to export. im going to make 28 slideshows for my kids in school. *=( if i need to do this process 28 times, i may not be able to finish it on time. please suggest a software or an alternative as to how i should do this... m more comfortable using imovie than iphoto. thanks and i hope to hear from someone soon *=j

Thank you QuickTimeKirk...used toast to burn project... my project was in .mov, i tried to play it a dvd player, it did play... will try again tomorrow using another dvd player just to be sure it'll will really work with dvd players. thank you again for your reply *=)

DVD Player in Lion

In DVD Player in Snow Leopard, I used to be able to create video clips (that is, short sections of DVDs to play for my students in school). DVD Player in Lion does not seem to offer that feature. Bookmarks are not good enough for my purposes, because I want the clips I choose to stop automatically at the places I have previously chosen. Ideally, I would like the 'create a video clip' feature to be returned to DVD Player in Lion, but if that is not possible, does anyone know whether it is possible to reinstall DVD Player from my Snow Leopard discs? If that is not possible, does anyone know of any free software that will enable me to play a DVD (for example, King Kong), make a video clip (for example, the opening credits and first few minutes of the film), and then play back the clip? Yes, I can confirm this, also that DVD Player on my Mac Mini has horrible mouse interaction in terms of control, if I fast forward there is no telling hard far or how long the video will go for.
This is or should be unacceptable from Apple, when I pay for a software upgrade I expect to gain features and performance, not lose them, especially at Apple prices ( thought Lion was cheap, it is also problematic)
