DVD crashes at Title 5 chapter 14

I have finally got my dual layer dvd burned. Its been a long ordeal since I had to completely replace my dual layer burner. Now that I actually burned a copy that works, the dvd crashes on title 5 chapter 14 (and also title 6 chapter 14). I ripped both title/chapter back to my hard drive and found the identical mpeg, is this the break point? I allowed DVDSP 4 to automatically choose a break point. Probably not a good idea, but I had so many difficulties with burning a dual layer dvd I tried everything.
I have several play options...play all, randomize and individual. Anytime I randomize and play all the dvd crashes always at the same location. However, if I play the title/chapter individually it seems to work. It has a long pause, but at least it returns to the menu instead of crashing completely.

He's right about the compatibility -atleast in my experience. I just created a project that finished up totally 1 hour and 18 mins. We threw it on a dual-layer memorex DVD+R and tried it in 3 players and it worked. I got a call from the client syaing that it wouldnt play in the DVD player, but on their computer it was fine.
So, we're now splitting the project into two disks for them.
BTW, I tried Ritek DL disks as well as Verbatims and none worked. It was an expensive lesson.

  • Burning CD's and DVD's with Titles

How do I burn CD's or DVD's with titles so they're visible on TV playback slideshow?

You can't do it with iPhoto 4 and with iPhoto 5 the titles are placed partially outside the TV safe area of iDVD. You will have to create the slideshow in iMovie and add the titles via the sub-title capability, making sure you place it well away from the edges (iDVD will not scale and place movies inside the TV safe area as it does stills). There may be a 3rd party app that will do it but I'm not familiar with any.

  • Is there a DVD creator that retains the chapter markers that have been denoted in iMovie project?

Is there a DVD creator that retains the chapter markers that have been denoted in iMovie project and automatically link them to menu buttons?
I understand that iDVD used to do this but it is no longer part of the iLife package on my new iMac. I dont want to buy a DVD creator where I have to recreat the chapter positions that i have spent so long positioning on the iMovie project.

Only iDVD does this correctly, but Apple no longer want you to burn video DVDs.
The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast.

  • Playing DVD Crashes MBP (no matter what dvd player software I use)

    Current specs:
    OSX 10.6.6
    2.8 GH Core 2 Duo
    8GB DDR3 RAM
    512MB GeForce 9600M GT
I first got my mac book pro from a friend and did a fresh install of OSX. I dont believe I ever tried to play any dvd's on it until now (months later).
Originally when I got installed, I went through and deleted a lot of the default mac apps using appzapper that I didn't want cluttering up my install, and that included "DVD Player".
Fast forward a few months, I try to play DVD in vlc and it crashes vlc. I cant open the file on the disk directly, nor can i just go to "open disc". if i click it it spins up and then it stays at zero and wont play. If i try to view the file right on the dvd with vlc it either crashes or plays a garbled 2-10 seconds and then crashes
I ended up figuring this was because i deleted dvd player and must have deleted some codec or something along with it... after googling i remember people saying they deleted dvd player and had problems. So i got Pacifist and installed dvd player directly onto the computer
Same issue, vlc crashes, and now when i put in a dvd, DVD Player stops responding immediately. if i start up dvd player first with no disk in, it loads fine. when i put the dvd in it just stops responding and wont play.
    so far I have
    1. deleted preferences in dvd player
    2. I'm POSITIVE it's not the dvd. i just watched the dvd in my friends older mac laptop. Likewise, every dvd i rent from redbox will do this so i know its not just this particular dvd
    3. CD's load just fine from the player, just not dvd's
    4. ive tried changing the display interlace quality from the view menu in dvd player
    5. I tried making a new admin account and playing it with dvd player from there and the same thing happened, just stopped responding
    6. I just tried zapping PRAM and NVRAM (command option P + R), still no dice
    7. Okay, i just tried opening in VLC media player with 'no dvd menus' and it didnt crash.. it still didnt play but it at least allowed me to see the error output (see down below the post)
The only thing i can think of is i somehow corrupted some basic fundamental/hardware-software interface driver or soemthing that allows dvd's to be read (codec? i have no idea), as it crashes any dvd app I have tried. (so far only vlc and dvd player). I tried in quicktime but couldnt find how to open a dvd
    Thanks!

Having tried to re-install the DVD Player application it might be worth applying the 10.6.6 combo update (not the update via Software Update). From the threads I've read here it can often help with issues in this kind of area. Other than that it might be worth backing up your files and consider starting with a fresh copy of OS X. For all the space these apps take up I'd probably recommend leaving all the Apple ones alone.
I take it you have the same problem in Front Row too?

  • Any Solutions for when Premiere Elements 8 which crashes when Title is used?

I have been using the software since 2010 without major problems and have produced many videos, both Blueray files for using on a media player and DVDs. All of this time I have been using video from the same camera; a Sony  HDRCX110 which produces an m2ts file, and have also been including stills from various cameras. The software now crashes when a new title is attempted. I have read previous responses to a similar question and have done the following in accordance with the responses:
    - updated Windows 7 and Quicktime,
    - used CC cleaner to remove temporary files
    - reduced the number of files on the hard drive which now has 548Gb free.
Can anyone suggest further action please?

Thanks for the update. Sorry the news is not better. But, onward.
If you have not been through the uninstall/reinstall process, it is probably time to go through that.
Before you do, just to dot the i's and cross the t's, check out the video card driver to make sure that it is up to date according to the manufacturer of the video card. If that does not contribute to getting the issue resolved, then
    1. Go back to the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file, but this time delete that whole folder (8.0 Folder) in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Before you just deleted that one item in the 8.0 Folder, namely the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file. The path is reproduced for reference.
    Local Disc C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    8.0 Folder
and in the 8.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete.
    2. If that does not have any impact on the situation, the let us go for Help Menu/Deactivation in the open project. Close out of there. Then Uninstall via the usual Control Panel route. Next ccleaner, regular and registry parts. Then Reinstall the version 8. Then Reinstall the 8.0.1 Update.
Please review and let us know if you have any questions on the plan.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere elements 4 crashes on title making

Hi everybody, hope to find here a little help.
I own a Sony Vaio with Win Vista (kept updated constantly).
I just finished a 1 hour and 5 minutes video project with PRel 4.0 , but I cannot export the movie.
    Reason? Titles cause continuos crashes.
During video editing every 3-5 uses of titles premiere went on crash.
It was harsh to finish since the titles are for subtitles (the original footage is in english and I had to translate in Italian).
But some test I made were always succesful so I didn't be warned.
I know for sure  the titles are the "bad ones" because on troubleshooting sessions, I rendered a full version of the movie
after deleting all the texts and the process went smoothly and without warnings/problems.
Now I think there could be a bunch of possibilities but I did not find any solutions on web.
I think that the most effective solution could be the following:
Can I rasterize the texts? so having simple foregrounds bitmaps instead of vectors could bypass the crashes.
others hypotetic solutions are more exotic to me (or I imagine they are, )
Heres' the details of the warning messages I received for Vista after crashes.
(it's in italian, but it could be easy to understand) If necssary I can translate.
    Thanks in advance

Hi everybody I came back to this thread.
Gratefully Sony support Service is a guarantee.
In less then 15 minutes they were sending me all the compatible updates.
After installation of the new files, I started Pel.
some test with rendering the whole file: no crash even with titles.
So I started to complete the final movie.
    Share>DVD> BURN....
    I tried two times.
The first one crashed NTdll (NOOOOO Windows noooo...)
But it was a fast test (I did not close unuseful applications).
The second one, I killed AV and anti spyware, disconnected both lan cables and wireless module.
killed bluetooth manager, all the automatic updates utility, and some more apps not connected to video and audio issues.
I gained quite 15 Mb of RAM. (not a great amount but better than nothing).
Started... after menu creation, at the moment of codify, Crash.
    this time... unbelievable... kernel32.dll....
    I'm a little astounded.
Now. I have to make a DVD from this movie.
I'm ready to get rid off the "cute utilities" like menus, internal links and navigation feature in the DVD.
I need just the audio/video channels.
InVAIO+premiere i have three ways to export.
    1) file-export-movie (usually I export lossless and then I use virtualdub to codify the video in specific codecs. (this Time I'm a little afraid of the Gb required at 720x576x25 fps) and I dropped the idea).
    2) Vaio export with quite the same features, but optimized and a little more for newbies (less settings).
    3) Share> and all the options.
I need this video to be seen by technicians (plumbers and so on)  so I prepared a DVD in order to let them see the
movie in their houses (that's why the 25 fps and the DVD menus).
But, again if you suspect the problem is the "computational heaviness" I'm ready to drop to 720x576x15fps and
something like MPEG2 codec (even if I prefer the H.264 one...)
    What do you think about?
Thanks in advance for your patience

  • PC DVD players that can display chapter time elapsed

I have authored some screener discs with a bunch of episodes on one timeline. I have a chapter marker at each episode. I took for granted apple dvdplayer's ability to display chapter time elapsed, which is a feature that can be found on most set top players as well. The recipients of these screener need to provide some timecodes and on their pc's they can only get the continuous timecode from 00:00:00, which really causes a headache.
Anyone know of a PC software DVDplayer that allows you to view the elapsed time of the current chapter.
    thanks,
    ryan

The time display on DVD players shows the time elapsed in a title set not individual chapters.
The standard way to do this and more accurate is to create a timecode window dub with the time code filter in FCP before exporting.

  • Install CD/DVD crash every time

    Install cd/dvd all crash --
    -------- the short version ----
Both are Sawtooth-- all install disks are retail -- tried opt key selection --
    g4 400, had os9, install from boot cd - x2 then x3 then x4.
    upgraded cpu and vid card
    30 days later : slow start = 3 minutes
try to reinstall osx4, boot disk crashes. osx2 & osx3 install disks crash.
Attempted following procedures, repeatedly and in different combinations:
reset nvram, remove pram batt, change ata cables, change cd--drive, run memtest on ram, Removed upgrades = Restore machine to original configuration & reset nvram, remove pram batt.
Check PSU, seems weak, at 200 w max, test shows momentary drops below specs
Also remove hds, disconnect zip, put slave hd on same cable with master cd-drive. tried 3 different cd-drives, NONE of these things have resulted in booting from the cd-drive.
Get 2nd g4 450, 236 PSU, no hds. put hd from g4 400 into it and try to boot from install = crash. Boots to the hd with x4.10 on it, Install TechToolPro4 and make an “edisk”. firewire edisk boots - hd boots- cd crashes.
IF ONE machine was bonkers I would blame the machine, but two NO, especially the g4 450 is pristine - makes me wonder if it has been used more than a few hours EVER.
Rework g4 400 - install old 20 gig hd with osx3 on it, it boots, try boot from cd, cd boots up BUT no hd is loaded, in disk utility no drives show up. Change the ata cable and try again, now boot cd attempt locks up. Still boots to hd x3.
Here's a “hmmm” at one crash I found this line in command line = “ expected / previous boot version not the same” (I don't remember verbatim)
I thought removing the pram batt cleared that from logic board mem.
Back at the office I had a PM9600 running osx3.9 (with xlr8 patch) and had to clear the power (pram batt remove procedure) to boot back to os9, but it worked and had no problem of it. why do both of these g4s fail to boot to cd/dvd? Currently (used to originally install osx) Nec 2500 cd/dvd drive and the new Pioneer 112D, new cables, cleared pram and nvram AND reformatted drive from edrive (TTP4 emergency drive).
I have run out of ideas, unless there is some firmware command (other than nvram)
Is this an electronics engineer question?
Any one else ever had this situation?
    thanks for help
    K
please remember the already attempted diagnostic attempts.
Is it possible that osx4 added something to boot-rom, or firmware?
That an install disk will not boot just makes no sense to me at all.

Since it was two machines, and alot of hardware, and install disks, I had to stop and restart my thinking.
I put both machines back to stock, made a list of requirements for each bit of hardware, and inspected the disks very closely.
The original problem may/probably result of flaky powersupply and nVdia card combination. Disks wont boot because nVida requires X 10.4.5 to allow boot.
All the swapping parts and drives only shifted conflicts, didnt remove them.
Put New unfromatted hd in G4-400 and (0S9 no boot, OS X2 boot but no install) OSX 3 boots and installs, try to upgrade to OSX4 and crashes, look at disk again, skuff marks = I used a disk cleaner device that spins on the disk, supposed to clean it, but I "cleaned it" 10 times in succession.
Reboot and install took, so those small skuffs were part of the problem.
Went to the G4-450 and installed OSX 3 and upgrade to OSX 4.
Now one step at a time upgrade hardware, and
#1 keep a running written log of everything done to the machine.
#2 get an install disk with osx 4.6
#3 remember the lessons learned ---

  • DVD crashes computer in 10.6.2

I have a commercial DVD that will crash my Macbook Pro (10.6.2) 100% repeatably within a minute of inserting and playing the disc. The DVD player freezes, then the entire computer locks up requiring a hard reboot. Oddly, not every DVD will cause this freeze.
The same disc plays fine on two other Macs also running 10.6.2. Thinking this was a hardware failure, I took the computer to the Apple Store. They reproduced my crash but they were able to play the DVD if they booted from an external drive with a fresh installation of 10.6, so they reinstalled 10.6 on my machine. This fixed the problem and all was well.
Until I installed the 10.6.2 Combo update to bring my computer from 10.6 to 10.6.2. Now the DVD freeze problem is back! Something in the 10.6.2 Combo update doesn't like certain DVDs.
Since I don't play DVDs very often on my computer, I've decided that I can live with the DVD problems instead of rolling back to 10.6 again. I'm posting this in case someone else is having similar problems.
By the way, I've filed a Bug Report with Apple. Hopefully this will get fixed in 10.6.3.

I have been having the exact same problem with my MacBook Pro for about a month now: DVD Player program crashes with no way to force quit. I've lost a lot of data that was open while I was playing a DVD and it's been causing me tons of stress. I haven't had an Apple computer crash like this in over a decade.
As an experiment, I ripped DVD and tried to play the Video TS without using an actual disc to see if it still crashed. It did. My conclusion was that it's a software problem. Multiple calls to Apple did nothing: Removed DVD player preferences, archive and reinstall Snow Leopard, etc. They finally told me that it was likely a hardware issue with the video card, the logic board or the RAM. I took it to the Apple Store where diagnostics indicated it was fine. They then told me to do a full erase and re-install, which I reluctantly did. After the reinstall, I plugged in my external and tried to play the Video TS of the crashing DVD and it played fine! I immediately did a software update and then plugged in the external again. This time the Video TS crashed. There was nothing new on my computer except the software update, so I concluded this was the problem.
Armed with this new knowledge, I then erased the hard drive and reinstalled Snow Leopard again. But this time I only installed the 10.6.1 software update. I plugged in the external again and the same Video TS played fine. There is clearly a major problem with the 10.6.2 update that causes the DVD Player software program to crash. This is based on my experiment and also the fact that this problem only started in November, when the 10.6.2 update came out. Therefore, I would recommend anyone else having this problem to try to go back to version 10.6.1 until they fix this bug.

  • Newly burned DVD won't play last chapter

I'm new to iDVD, so this may be a dumb question. I just burned my first DVD and when I put it into my DVD player it plays all but the last chapter of my menu. Any ideas?

First test is to load it into your Mac and see if it plays with Macs "DVD Player" utility.
Let us know whether it plays the disc with or without the same problems.

  • IPhoto Slideshow to iDVD, then dvd to television: titles cut off.

    iPhoto '08(7.1.5) and iDVD '08(7.0.4)
Created a slideshow in iPhoto using 16:9 format. Exported to iDVD and set dvd to 16:9 format and burned the dvd. The slideshow shows fine on the computer, and the dvd preview also looks fine. When taking the dvd to the television, both a widescreen HD tv and a standard 4:3 tv, the dvd distorts the pictures and the titles on the upper left are cut off. Any suggestions on how to resolve this?
    Thanks
    Kelly

    Kelly:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I believe you can get the entire slideshow image into the TV Safe area this way:
1 - go to your User/Movies folder and locate the slideshow QT file that iPhoto saved there during the export to iDVD.
2 - open iDVD and, using the "+" button create a slideshow.
3 - drag the QT movie file from the Movies folderinto the slideshow window.
4 - go to the iDVD/Slideshow preference pane and check the "Always scale slides to TV safe area" checkbox.
5 - go to the main menu and delete the movie that was added directly by iPhoto.
This will scale the movie to the TV safe area and keep the titles in the viewable area.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • FM11 crashes when renaming a chapter in the book

    (Win7 / FM11)
FM11 crashes when I rename a chapter in the book.
I have seen crashes before, but never while renaming a chapter.
Happens with more than one chapter file in the book.
Immediately before the attempts to rename files,  I had updated and then saved the book.
    Any thoughts?

It might be a resource issue, as renaming the file forces FM to run through all files in the book to update the links, cross-refs, etc.
The usual suspects: need lots of free space in system TEMP, memory, other apps, overtly aggressive anti-virus checking every file, slow network, etc.

  • IMovie crashes during title

When I click on the Titles toolbar or otherwise try to add title sequences, iMovie unexpectedly and suddenly crashes.  Any ideas?

So I read that the best thing to do was to backup all files, delete iLife, and reinstall. I backed up all files to an external harddrive, deleted the programs, and reinstalled. Did not work. Did you guys try this yet and did it work for you?
My next guess is that it's an update issue from Apple and I'm just waiting for the next update... I deleted the most recent additions that I made to iMovie (songs, titles, photos, videos) back to before it started having this problem. That also didn't work... I made a wedding video for a family member and JUST finished it and cannot publish it. It's KILLING me!!!

  • Hardware DVD players skipping past last chapter into second track.

We are having trouble with hardware DVD players skipping past the last chapter marker and into the second track instead of returning to the menu. The only way we see to stop this is to disable the last chapter markers playback control/next program option. This will work to stop the jump to the next track but quickly cycling through the chapters will allow jumping to the next track.
    Thanks for your help.

    Welcome to the Boards
Yeah sometimes you can blow through the disable depending on the player and how fast you press. One thing I have used is a second marker which also disables the UOPs so that there is two disables in a row which seems to stop most players from blowing through the stop.

  • Build or Burn dvd / CRASH

Please if any one can help me. This happens it seems each and every time I have many images or say 6 or 7 slide shows. Like if I have say only 3 slide shows with a total of 100 images and 3 movie clips, my burning a dvd goes just fine, every time.
But each and every time I have 6 or 7 slide shows (300 images)and 3 movies as the computer is going thru the building process / burning a DVD after about 15 minutes it just crashes. "Encore has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" Date error report saids "ModName: a2mpgvout.004 ModVer: 1.6.0.15007 Offset 00015056"
My image size is 700 X 525 abut 200kb each. About 300 images.
My used GB is only 3.75gb and I have 948 free mb space.
In the past what I have had to do to make it work is to burn my dvd with only 2 slide shows and 3 movies, then IF all went well I would add another slide show and rename and save a new file. I keep doing then until I get all the slides shows in. I just keep resaving and renaming each saved file. This takes a half a day.
Does anyone understand what it going on? This has been going on for 9 mounts now since day one.
    THANKS!!!

Two things might help: adhering to DVD specs and getting more disk space.
