DVD creation form iMovie

Ok, I did a search. Nothing popped up much. But Im sure it has been discussed.
Took my one on one last night with iMovie, then, I asked about burning a DVD. Was told that iDVD was no more and I should go searching for some burning software. Dont have a  big desire so spend alot of money on more software when I bought this Mac to use this iMovie and iPhoto
So, who can suggest reasonable software to take my project and burn to a dvd to give to friends to watch in their PC or TV.
Don't need tons of gimmics and special stuff. Once I do what I do in iMovie, I should be good to go.
Unfortunately the one to one guy was not great help on this suggestion so here I am. Great editing software. No burning software and a $2500 Mac on my desk.

And to add to what AppleMan1958 has listed here I would mention an open source program called Burn, which has been mentioned frequently by a long time contributor to the iMovie Discussion Group, Karsten Schlüter

  • What is the best program for editing and DVD creation?

    I am looking for a software that allows me to create a DVD with menus,etc.   I would prerfer to edit in iMovie and export my video to a DVD software.  But if anyone knows of a better editing system with DVD creation possibilities please let me know!

    Better is a very subjective term when it comes to editing and personal preferences play an important role. In any case on the Mac you have these choices:
    • Buy iLife with iMovie and iDVD (Amazon, Ebay). This should be able to fulfill most needs.
    • Get Adobe CS 6 with Premiere Pro and Encore DVD. Professional software with a learning curve if you come from iMovie
    • Get Final Cut Pro X. Shouldn't be too difficult to learn for iMovie users but with very limited DVD authoring
    Both have trial versions that you can check out. The cost for FCP X is much lower than that for CS 6.
    On a side note, there is also Avid but I can't really say much about it having never used it.

  • Burning DVDs off of iMovie ver. 2

    Hey all. I have a Mac G4 with os 9.1. I am trying to burn video dvds off of iMovie v.2.0.3.  Have created the project,  but can't get my Lacie firewire DVD burner to find and burn the project.
    I exported the project to Quicktime, and can view it there, but I have been unable to get my Lacie drive to recognize the project and burn the DVD.  I can burn data DVDs, but not videos. I also cannot find a format through which I can put the project on media and open on my Windows computer to burn the discs.
    Is there any way to get my project onto a DVD? Answers?

    I have created a ADF creation form using updatable VO.
    I have three list boxes, theaterId, AreaId, SalesSegment. if i select theaterId list box it should refresh the list for areaId and salesSegment.
    I have created list boxes in VO attribute level and defined the dependencies.

    Use iDVD.
    Apple no longer sells it. Buy any version of iLife 11, 09, or 08 from your favourite software vendor and install just the iDVD app.

    In general, in imovie Share to Media Browser or Share to iTunes.
    Then open iDVD. Open the Media Browser in iDVD (at bottom right of window). Navigate to your movies and you should see the movie you made. Drag it in to the iDVD project.

    You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
    which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
    (unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
    Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
    For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
    Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
    And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
    No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
    Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
    The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
    To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
    The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Pass Parameter into ADF Creation Form

    I have an ADF Read Only Form on page 1, and and ADF Creation Form on page 2. I want three specific fields from page one to be passed into the appropriate fields on page 2. How would I go about accomplishing this?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hey Shay,
    I got one value to pass:
    I put a setAction Listener on the command button. My From was #{backing_confirmTest.outputText2.value}. And my To was #{processScope.Test}.
    When I tried to add another setAction listener to the same button it wouldn't let me. Can I not have another set of values like... #{backing_confirmTest.outputText3.value} and #{processScope.Test2}??
    Thanks,
    Tim

  • Import home video DVD's into iMovie

    I want to import my home video DVD's into iMovie for editing and backup. What is the best way to do this? I have already tried creating a disk image, but somehow when I open these images with iMovie, some parts of the original video are missing. (for example the video on DVD is 60 minutes, but the video opened on iMovie is 50 minutes). I also tried to convert to MPEG 2 using MPEG Streamclip, and purchased the MPEG2 Playback component from Apple Store, but it turns out that this component was intended for earlier versions of OS X, so I could not even install it. I am currently at a lockdown, please help me out!!!

    There are directions on the MPEG Streamclip website on how to get the MPEG2 Playback component installed on your computer (I'm assuming your running Mac OS X 10.7). I'm cutting and pasting them here in case someone else runs into the same problems.
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
    The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
    Also read the information for Snow Leopard below.
    Snow Leopard and MPEG-2 Playback Component
    The Snow Leopard upgrade DVD released on August 28, 2009 may wipe the content of the /System/Library/QuickTime folder during the upgrade process, and delete your MPEG-2 Playback Component installed in that folder. To use MPEG-2 files with MPEG Streamclip you have to reinstall the MPEG-2 component or restore it from a backup copy.
    If you are going to upgrade to Snow Leopard
    Open the /System/Library/QuickTime folder and drag the QuickTimeMPEG2.component file to your desktop to make a copy of it. Then upgrade to Snow Leopard. When the upgrade is complete, open the /System/Library/QuickTime folder again and move the QuickTimeMPEG2.component file from the desktop to the /System/Library/QuickTime folder (enter your administrator password if necessary).
    If you already upgraded to Snow Leopard
    You have to reinstall or restore your MPEG-2 Playback Component.
    If you have a Time Machine backup of your System folder, then open the /System/Library/QuickTime folder, enter Time Machine and go back in time until you see the QuickTimeMPEG2.component file; select that file and then click Restore.
    If you purchased the MPEG-2 Playback Component from the Apple Online Store, then you probably still have the DMG file that contains the installer. Use Spotlight to search for "QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg": if you find a file with that name, double-click it and then in the disk image, double-click the installer package for Intel Macs.
    If you purchased the MPEG-2 Playback Component from the Apple Online Store but you can't find the QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg file, you can download the file again from the Apple Online Store if you remember the Apple ID used when you originally purchased it (if you forgot your Apple ID then go to Apple iforgot). Visit the Apple Online Store, click on "Account" in the store menu, then click "Downloadable Software Purchases," enter your Apple ID and password, and click the link to the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component to download it again.
    If you obtained the MPEG-2 Playback Component from the installation of Final Cut Studio, then you can reinstall it again from the Final Cut Studio DVD. Insert the DVD and use the Finder's Go menu > Go To Folder... command to get to the /Volumes/Final Cut Studio/Installer/Packages/ folder inside the DVD. Locate the QuickTimeMPEG2.pkg or the QuickTimeMPEG2Pro.pkg installer: double-click it to reinstall the MPEG-2 component.

  • Can I use View Link in ADF Creation Forms Jdev 10.1.3

    Hi...
    I created a view link of two tables. Then I created a ADF form with Master Object to show some informations.. and I created a ADF Creation form with the detail Object
    I'm trying to submit the informations added in the Detail forms.
    but no records are created in Database..
    Can I submit a creation form using detail object?
    Thanks

    I figured out "partially" the problem, I tried to overrid the create method, and for any reason the commit operation wasn´t working.
    I was trying to set a value for a proprety, but it did not work as a wish.
    My intention was.... when an user execute the form. one specific field brings a value.. however I cannot set default value. cause it´ll change sometimes.
    it´s something like this
    protected void create(AttributeList attributeList) {
    super.create(attributeList);
    setMyProperty(new Number(0));
    do you know how can I figure out this problem?

  • MiniDV to DVD transfer via iMovie and iDVD?

    I own a Sony DCR-PC9, which is a digital tape video recorder (MiniDV) circa 2001. (yes I know, time to upgrade) I have about 20 tapes to transfer to DVD. I am using iMovie to import and edit the video and iDVD to burn the DVD. Digital tape is not HD of course and I really do not know what resolution it is. All the tapes were shot in 4:3 (vs. 16:9) so I know I will have some issues with bars on the sides. My real questions are:
    1. How do I make sure that I import the highest quality image I can from the recorder into iMovie? I do not care about the size of the file.
    2. I have no problem actually importing and editing but the DVD I create is very poor quality when played on a new LCD HD TV. Is that just the way it is? A “bad” source (digital video tape) being played on a brand new TV? Is there something I can do either in iMovie (editing) or iDVD (compress, not compress, upconvert, etc.) to make the DVD quality better? I really have no knowledge of what “compress, not compress, upconvert, etc.” mean and I threw those in there as I see those words all the time. It seems as though there is some choice in how the DVD is burned in iDVD. Are there other products that can improve the video quality before it is burned to the DVD?
    I am not interested in making any fancy edits, adding titles, etc. I just want simply to get the digital video tape on a DVD but with good quality. I did plug the video recorder directly into my new TV and as expected, the quality was not good. Am I just doomed because I have a “bad” source (digital video tape) being played on a brand new TV?
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Your camera is a miniDVD camera with FireWire. It is 4:3.
    Have you tried the OneStep DVD approach in iDVD? (Look in the iDVD HELP for OneStep).
    This will let you transfer your video content to a DVD without using iMovie.

  • How to  programmatically initialize field in ADF Creation Form

    I'm using JDEV 10.1.3.2, ADF BC. The task sounds simple:
    1. Create an ADF Creation Form by pulling in a VO (backed by EO) from Data Control.
    2. Initialize one of the required fields in a backing bean from processScope.
    3. User sets other fields via GUI.
    4. Save the new record in the database (Commit).
    The problem is how to do step 2? The processScope variable is being retrieved properly, but I have not been able to set the required field so that the user does not have to enter this field. I have an action on the Save button as follows:
        public String commandButton_action() {
            String psnetid = null;
            BindingContainer bc = getBindings();
            AdfFacesContext afContext = AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
            psnetid = afContext.getProcessScope().get("netid").toString();
    //Need to set Netid field in VO to psnetid here
            OperationBinding operationBinding =
                bc.getOperationBinding("Commit");
            Object result = operationBinding.execute();
            if (!operationBinding.getErrors().isEmpty()) {
                return null;
            return null;
        }Can anyone shed some light on this?
    Thanks.

    This is outside of the backing bean, but you may try it:
    modify the getter on the entity impl class (if you are using ADF BC) to set a default value
    This example is to set a default status id on the field.
    public class <EntityName>Impl extends EntityImpl {
    public static final int STATUSINTLID = 1; //first column name on the entity
    public Number getStatusIntlId() {
    Object intlId = getAttributeInternal(STATUSINTLID);
    if (intlId == null){
    int intValue;
    intValue = <get value from somewhere code>;
    Number defaultValue = new Number(intValue);
    if (defaultValue != null){
    this.setStatusIntlId(defaultValue);
    return (Number)getAttributeInternal(WATERDRAWSTATUSINTLID);
    Cheers,
    Jim
