DVD data doesn't fit DVD.

Hi.
I authored a DVD which fits inside the 4.7 GB, but Encore reports that "The estimated project size is larger than the target media chosen. While this is an estimate, the project may fail to build."
Check Project window doesn't show that the DVD exceeds the media capacity of 4.7 GB.
The Disc tab shows that 4.51 GB are used, and 187.3 MB are still free.
Now it comes ... when I change to an 8.5 GB, the error remains.
This is definitly a bug!
How can I work around that one.
Thanks.

I too am getting this error trying to burn a blu-ray. My total file size was about 23gigs but I brought it down to about 18gigs and I still get this message. The original file was exported as a quicktime file in Final Cut Pro, then used Media Encoder using MPEG2 Bluray. I have attached a picture of my settings.
Now I set it to build a image onto my desktop and now it's telling me that the image size is 475 gigs What the?!!

  • DVD Burner Doesn't Fit!! Any others?

Just bought a LaCie 16x LightScribe internal DVD+-R double layer burner since it was recommended on this site, and now come to find it doesn't fit by millimeters due to the mirrored doors.
Any other DVD burner suggestions? I mean, a size that actually fits the mirror-doored Mac?
Thanks for taking the time to read this!

You'd think that all optical drives would be the same size, but they're not. I found that one out several years ago..
If the drive is indeed too long to mount in the drive carrier and seat fully into the chassis (you say by only a few millimeters) and you've done the obligatory step of removing the tray bezel, the next step would be to remove the entire faceplate of the drive. Depending on the drive, there are usually at least four tabs on the faceplate that hold in the drive chassis. Simply press in the tabs with a small screwdriver while prying the faceplate forward. That may give you the clearance you need to get the drive to fit.

  • DVD burner doesn't fit correctly in Mac Pro

Added a new (second) DVD burner to my Mac Pro. It fits (I took the tray face plate off) but it's tight. So tight it won't eject all the way. I have to help it come out all the way. It's a Phillips DVD burner but seems to be the same dimensions as any other.
I've tested it, it's not the burner that is at fault. It seems to be dragging on the bottom of the slot. Normally, I'd just adjust the seating, but Apple's screw holes don't really allow for adjustment.
How can I make this drive sit about 1/8" higher so it slides out normally?

    but it's tight
And how tight did you screw it in because it doesn't needed to be "Nailed Down" just tight enough not to move or rattle! Loosen the screws near the front of the drive a little and see that helps.

  • Top DVD tray doesn't fit perfectly

I have just installed a LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1H in the top bay ad moved the original SuperDrive to the lower tray.
It's all working fine, apart from the LiteOn tray rubs against the bottom of the gap in the Mac Pro enclosure. The flap is coming down completely, but it seems the tray sits lower in this drive than other.
The tray comes out fully, but the further it comes out the harder it seems to press on the enclosure and it slows down and looks in danger of jamming!
Has anyone else had this problem? I've not tried it in the lower bay, that might solve the problem but I'll use this drive more, so it makes sense to have it in the primary bay... save me pressing the alt key so often

I have exactly the same set up as you having installed the LITE-ON LH-20A1H in the top bay and moved the original Superdrive to the lower tray.
When I first installed the LITE-ON drive I also had the same problem as you with the tray rubbing against the bottom of the gap. I solved it by opening both drives and gently lifting the LITE-ON tray upwards - keeping all edges of the tray away from the Mac Pro gap. I then closed both drives and have never had a problem since.

  • DVD Drive doesn't detect DVDs on Satellite 1900-303

My CD-RW/DVD drive is refusing to play DVDs, acting as though there is no disc in the drive no matter what I try. I haven't used the machine regularly in a while and have just started to discover this.
It also has a problem with burning to blank discs, if that's of any interest. I've bought a lens cleaner but it will not work as the laptop still doesn't recognise the disc. Also, I've never fiddled with the region control, and have already tried re-installing the driver, but to no avail.
    It's a S1900-303, model number PS192E-00G1N-EN.
Any help anyone can give is very much appreciated, this is really inconvenient.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hello guys
First of all if there are any problems with CD or DVD burning you have to test different CD or DVD. Not every CD or DVD is compatible and can be used in the drive.
Therefore check different CD/DVD from different manufactures.
But if the drive will be not able to burn or read any CD/DVD so I assume the drive has a malfunction and only the device replacement could help.
@Judith: You unit seems to be new and the warranty should cover the drive replacement.
But before contacting the ASP in your country check the different medias.
In the user manual you should find a list with compatible and tested CD and DVDs.

  • Compressor 3.5 - Burn DVD Preset - Doesn't Burn DVD

    Hello,
Loving the Compressor 3.5 Burn DVD preset, but lately, it's not loving me back.
I send a movie to Compressor, select the "Burn DVD" preset, let the project encode, wait for the burn process to begin, get to "1 minute remaining" on the screen, then BAM!
Compressor goes from "1 minute remaining" to 2, 3, 4+ minutes remaining. And the DVD I've been waiting for isn't burned. I look at the unrecorded part of the DVD and only see my reflection (I take this as the unburned DVD mocking me, as I sit/stare at it, as if I were in some sort of "stupid" contest with the thing).
I let the machine sit for several minutes to an hour. Nothing.
    I've changed DVD brands. Nothing.
I tell the machine that everything is going to be alright. Nothing.
My FCP system was acting very buggy lately (relating to fonts). I created a new user account and it solved all my issues FCP/Motion font issues. But this Compressor issue is something new.
Now, if I go back to my old account, I get the same hang up with Compressor. The Create DVD Preset is encoding my stuff, but not burning my stuff.
In the interim, I'm taking the encoded assets into DVDSP, and creating a menu-less Video DVD.
Taking comments, questions and suggestions about how to solve this issue.
    Compressor, where is the love?

Can Compressor output a disc image properly? That could be burned with Disc Utility.
Does the Create Disc app ever launch? There is no progress window, but you can see a new app and menu bar appear. Also, try doing this with Activity Monitor open. It would be good to know if the fault is Create Disc, or something else.

  • 6GB data won't fit on 8GB dvd, help?

I have a project which altogether contains around 6GB of data (which should fit as i'm using double-layer) however when i go to burn, it says the project will be 41GB. Can somebody help me?

    Hi
iDVD doesn't care about Gbs at all - ONLY time and this is two parts
    • Movie time
    • Menu time
I have 500Mb movies that do not fit on a SL-DVD and 50Gb movies that fit's nicely.
iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.

  • What can I do if my CD or DVD drive doesn't work properly in Windows 8?

QuestionWhat can I do when if my laptop CD or DVD drive doesn't work properly in Windows 8?
AnswerNote: For help with this issue in Windows 7, please see this article.
To get your CD or DVD drive working correctly, try these suggestions in the order listed.
    Reinstall the Driver
Hold the Windows key and press the 'x' key to open a menu in the lower-left. In this menu, select "Device Manager." Expand "DVD/CD-ROM drives." Right-click the entry for the CD/DVD drive nested under "DVD/CD-ROM drives," then select "Uninstall." Finally, restart the computer. The computer will reinstall the drivers for the drive.
    Power Cycle
Even when your laptop is off and unplugged, residual power can still be held in some components. While this is normal, clearing it can help with some hardware problems. Perform these steps to complete what’s called a power cycle.
Ensure the laptop is turned off.
Unplug the laptop's AC power cable.
Unplug all wires and peripherals. This includes CDs, DVDs, USB sticks, mice, printers, and any other accessories.
Remove the battery (if the model has a removable battery). If the model does not have a removable battery, check your user's guide to determine if you have a pinhole reset on the bottom. If you do, press this.
Hold down the power button for thirty seconds.
    Reattach the battery if removed.
Connect the AC adaptor to the power socket that was confirmed to be working in the first step.
Connect the other end of the AC adaptor to your computer.
Start the computer and test the drive

  • DVD Data discs music backup- Best way to reinstall?

I'm trying to recover from an external drive holding over 1TB of my music files go down. I have 95 percent of the files copied to another drive, which is the good news.
I have several hundred other cd's to get back into the library. I didn't get to backing up many, so I'll have to re-rip, Grrrrr.... I have many cd's backed up on Data DVD (Apple Lossless files). My question is what is the easiest way to get these DVD Data cd's back into the library?
I know I may have to re-do the artwork and I don't use ratings etc. I just need to know if I can drag and drop the Data DVD's into my new library folder (on another ext. drive). Will Itunes auto magically match them to the album etc.? Or do I have to import album by album and go through it line by line. Itunes is back up and running but without the missing five percent of my music.
Maybe I should start another thread but I didn't use the newer method of the DVD restore/backup disc. I was aware of it but I didn't understand how to use it in my situation. I had over 1tb that I had copied to a backup drive. I would also make Data DVD's over the years, along the way as another backup. To make the backup/restore discs it doesn't seem to let you pick the files to put on it. You can only do the entire collection or items added or changed since last backup. My IMAC doesn't know what I did for my last backup. I dragged and dropped from one hard drive to another without using Time Machine etc.
    Any advice/help much appreciated.

Do these files still exist in the iTunes library or did you have to re-create that too?
If they do exist there then you can copy the files to the new location but will then have to re-link the files one by one from the library to the new location (so the ! disappears).
If they are not in the library, or you don't mind losing some information such as playlist association, rathings, and playcount, you can copy them to the drive, then drag the files to the iTunes library and basically re-add them as new tracks. You may then have to use scripts such as available on [Dougscripts|http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scriptcount.php?sortBy=Name& op=y] to clear your library of duplicates which are hte old unlinked file references.

Do you have any DVD authoring software?

Three issues here.  The pre-pending is useless when selecting songs to play, plus it.takes up much of the admittedly limited space in my on-screen menu.  Since it doesn't help me select a song to play, it simply prevents more relevant info from being displayed in that area.  However, there is a second area on the menu that is designed to list title, artist and album but those fields are blank - despite I-tunes inclusion of the info in the xferred files.
    JCP,
Regarding the tags, on an MP3 CD iTunes simply burns whatever is embedded in the MP3 file.  From your description, it sounds like the Onkyo is seeing the filenames but not the tags, which does seem strange.  You may want to try the question in an Onkyo forum.
If you don't need the pre-pended serial number, and don't care about the sequence, you can burn from iTunes as a data CD instead of an MP3 CD.

  • Satellite M30X: drive won't read data DVD-R's but plays DVD-R movies and CD's

    I have a Toshiba M30X with DVD/CDRW combi drive.
I have accumulated 12gb of digital photo's that I wanted to clear but did not fancy the number of CD's that entailed so I purchased a LITEON EZ-DUB external DVD rewriter and made 3 DVD-R's full of JPEG's.
However, when I put these DVD's in the Toshiba combi drive, it clicks away for a moment or two but when I click on the combi drive in My Computer, the folder is empty and it says there's 0 bytes.
CD's still work, both audio and data, DVD movies play just fine, DVD-R's made on my Pioneer DVD recorder (for TV - looks like a video/nothing to do with PC) play fine, but it will not recognise DVD-R's with data (JPEG's or MP3's) on them.
It makes no difference which software was used (both Nero 6.6 and LITEON EZDUB) and it doesn't matter whether the discs are finalised, single session, multi session or what - it won't play any of them.
These discs however work perfectly in my 7 year old desktop with a 4 year old Sony DVD/CDRW combi.
    I'm stumped.
I don't particularly want to reinstall windows in case it doesn't recognise the Recovery DVD and I seem to remember Microsoft One Note having to be activated by telephone with a code that is different each time you ask it to generate one.
It's a bit of a pain as I wanted to carry my photo's with me in my laptop bag.
I don't want to be carting around an external DVD writer just to read the DVD's.
    I've updated the firmware for SD-R 2512.
It had no effect other than to freeze on an all black screen during restart - I had to hold down the power switch after 15 minutes in that condition.
The laptop is 1 year and 26 days old if that counts for anything.
Anyone have any ideas? Or do I just put up with it.

    Hi
Well, I can only make some suggestions.
You are able to place many MP3 and Jpeg files on the DVD.
Maybe this is a reason why the explorer cannot handle the DVD.
Try to burn the DVD with JEPG picture but don't make the DVD full with these files.
You should let a free space on the medium. Maybe it helps.
But it's very strange for me and this is only a suggestion. I have never tired it and don't know if it helps.
I had a similar issue on my notebook but I have solved it by using a compatible medium. Some drives prefer different mediums for different kind of files.

  • Burning & playing music burned on dvd data disc

after i burn a regular cdr in audio mode and i play the newly burned disc, i can change the format of the screen/playback by editing/amending the screen and right clicking on "copy play order" and it saves the changed settings each time i insert that cdr.....but.....when i do the same thing and copy wave music files to a dvd in data mode, when i insert the dvd after it's burnt, itunes will let me change the screen format (ie; name, song, year, album, rating, beats per minute) but when i right click on the inserted dvd, it doesn't give me the option to "copy play order" so i can save it to the disc.......any way around this??

  • Quickktime export to fit dvd media disc

Hi.. I have CS3.. I keep getting asked for my films to be exported in quicktime lossless media file to be sent to festivals for screenings.. my films are only 3-5 minutes long.. but when I export as quicktime they come in at 8gig.. can someone tell me how to export quicktime a 4 minute film..HD 720p etc that can fit a DVD.. this has been puzzling me for ages..thanks

Now, beyond going with a higher capacity disc, and having one media file per disc, you have only one choice, that I see - cut the bit-rate way down. Test the output of this, as you might not be pleased with the resulting quality.
As you are talking about a fixed CODEC (specified) and Frame Size (determined by you), and a fixed Duration (determined by you), then bit-rate, or larger discs are all that I see.
Programs, like DVDShrink will likely not be of much use, as you have data files on a DVD-Data. Those are designed to work with the MPEG-2 of DVD-Video discs. Still, you might want to look into them, as perhaps one WILL work acceptably with your AV files (data).
Even using archiving programs, like 7z or ZIP, will not squeeze much, if anything out of the files, and might actually increase the sizes. Also, the recipient would first need to Extract these to play them.
    Good luck,

  • DVD  player doesn't play movies with .avi extension

My friend recently gave me dvds that had movies burnt off the net. They're all files with .avi extensions. When i tried to open the file, it said i needed a higher version of quick time player, which i downloaded off the apple site.
After all this, i still can't play my dvd. What's happening here? The drive also makes these weird noises, like there's something seriously going wrong with the dvd. I tried playing it through dvd player on my mac book pro, but i couldn't open any file on it. It keeps sayin " NOT PERMITTED" . Funny part is, my friend could easily watch all these movies on his windows xp computer...
    Please helppp !!!

I think it is unforgivable a DVD player won't play DVD's that are not actually DVD's at all but data disks. I am still mad my DVD player will not paint my house.
Windows uses the one size fits all WM Player and it plays DVD and data disks or files etc.
Use Quicktime and Perian (free) to play those pesky files either from the DVD or from a drag and drop to the desktop first.
