DVD decrypter for Mac?

Hi ya'll.
I have a few dvds thar are kind scratched and I wanted to make a copy of them, before they get uneseful. Is there a DVD program that can decrypt these dvds for Mac? I have a Mac intel based. I appreciate any input..

Lucas, there are several ways to do this. You can use Mactheripper, or Handbrake.
Remember after you use MTR you will need Software to compress the contents to fit a standard 4.7gb DVD, such as Toast 7 or Popcorn.

There are several schools of thought on the legal issues of this. Some believe it is alright to copy any DVD you own for backup purposes. Wereas, others believe it is Illegal ireguardless.

This may help, but it's an accessory with an extra cost:

This new Superdrive also supports DVD-Audio so you can load more music into it than a CD.

  • Best mini-dvd recorder for Mac?

    Hello,
I have a Sony mini-dv recorder that uses mini tapes. I would like to purchase a new digital recorder that uses mini DVD's so I don't have to transfer from tape and can just pop the mini dvd into the mac dvd reader. Is this possible? I have a friend who tried with a Sony with no luck. what is the best brand compatible with Macs?
    Thank you.

MiniDVDs and MiniDiscs have little or no support on the Mac platform. Best to steer clear of any device that uses them if your sole working platform is a Mac.
Keep in mind that any device that records to a DVD, such as a MiniDVD recorder, is compressing the content far more than if you just captured your footage on tape. The content is already being formatted for playback on a DVD player as you record it, thus it's like skipping the whole editing/formatting process altogether. In theory, all you have to do is plop the disc into a set-top DVD player and hit play.

  • DVD backup for Mac OS Leopard

Hi, I'm new to mac, just transferring everything over from my windows machines.. but what I don't have is software to backup my movie DVDs.
Any suggestions for DVD cloning type software for Mac OS Leopard?
    thanks.

If you are talking about backing up purchased DVD movies... they are generally copyrighted and making backup copies is not permitted in the U.S. As your profile does not indicate where you are located... and copyright laws vary from country to country... you can use:
    Handbrake:

  • Where can I find internal DVD replacement for Mac Pro 2008?

My optical DVD drive on my Mac Pro (3,1) has been dead for a good long while.
Looking for a cheap replacment.  Just saw OWC stopped carrying them.  Any leads?

For Mac Pro 3,1 and earlier (2008 and previous) you need an IDE/ATA drive like this one:

  • Suggestions on external DVD burners for Mac

Last one I had was a Mad Dog multimedia burner which I paid about $140 about 6 months ago, the puppy had a freak accident and got in soapy water don't ask how.
What I'm trying to find is a burner in the $100 mark, any suggestions?

I strongly recommend http://www.macsales.com/ Firewire burners. They are the only ones that out of the box are compatible with iDVD, and Apple's other DVD burning applications. Others may need http://www.patchburn.de/ and specific firmware updates to be compatible. Some of these are outlined in the website:
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/
It wasn't until the Intel Macs, that USB became bootable for Mac OS X.

I'm wanting to get a good DVD burner software, however there are so many out there. Has anyone used DVD Cloner for Macv4?

Thanks Kappy, I let it do the scan and when it stopped halfway through and demanded registration I stopped and deleted it.  I still have the icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen and don't know how to remove it.  If this is not possible I can live with it.  I am new to Mac and have trouble divorcing myself from my old PC habits!

  • Recommend a good external DVD drive for Mac?

can anyone recommend a good external rewritable DVD drive for my EMac? i want something that will work with iDVD of course... thanks in advance.

LaCie is one. The Macally 500BC Firewire/USB 2.0 enclosure with a separate Pioneer S-Drive is another viable option.
I personally use multiple ADS Tech 1394 Pyro FW Enclosures with a Pioneer 110D S-Drive as well as a few ext. FW HD's and they all work well on mult. G4 systems (completely interchangeable via FW 400).
This link may help you to build your own S-Drive if you wish:

  • HD DVD Drive for MAC mini

Hey. I really want to integrate a Mac Mini into my home theater. However, I want it to play HD DVDs that I buy at the store. Is there a HD-DVD-ROM drive available that could be installed in a mac mini that would support HD-DVDs? And does Mac software even support playing back HD-DVD content?
Are there any rumors that the next mac mini will support HD-DVD playback or Blu-Ray playback?
( I know the Mac plays back HD DVD content made with DVD studio pro. That is different from the HD encrypted content that comes on an HD-DVD from the store. People have tried it with Xbox's external HD-DVD player. It works on a mac but only plays stadard DVD since there is no software for a Mac that can play the encrypted HD-DVD...or whatever you call it.)

  • Best dvd burner for Mac mini

What brand of DVD burner is most compatible with the Mac Mini? I haven't found one that specifically lists Mac OS in the specifications information.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Many brands are compatible, including Pioneer for example, but for the Mac mini, I'd start with http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/mac-mini/superdrive/ for internal and http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives/ for externals. Of the latter, http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MRBFWU2D112/ would be my own choice for DVD burner at reasonable price.
This supplier specializes in Mac peripherals, and these devices will certainly work. There are other suppliers and other brands of course, but the above is a good place to start.

Not if you got it from Apple, their version includes neither iDVD nor iWeb. Buy it from Amazon or eBay and it will. But of course you still need a Superdrive!
