DVD disc not compatible???

I have used Imation and Memorex DVD-R's (purchased in the U.S.) successfully on my 17" pbook and the g5 tower. However, the other day I purchased a Verbatim DVD+R (in Europe) and my computer ejects it automatically. I had also purchased previously a set of DVD-Rs from Circuit City brand and neither the powerbook nor the G5 recognized them.
Are there any permissions I may have to set in order to utilize these DVD-Rs? I am living in Europe (Italy) and do not know whether these DVD-Rs are compatible with my U.S. purchased macs. I do not believe it should be an issue however, since I even have the region set to 2 on my 17" powerbook (and still, region should not be an issue when burning a DVD to a mac, since you can do it region free).
If there is anyone living in Europe, please advise what brand has worked for you so that I can purchase safely to give it a try. Thank you!!

Hi MACPOWER
Cheque that Your Mac really can handle DVD+ disks, not many can.
Can it be dust on Your DVD-player laser head. A CD/DVD cleaning disk ??
I used several brands incl. Verbatim, Apple, Sony etc with no problems.
Cheque if the speeds are OK. x2, x4, x8 etc.
Does both of Your Macs behave the same ?
Do You have one with Mac OS X.3.9 and QT 6.5.2 - How does this work ?

  • DVD / Disc not recognized Equium A100

I've recently purchased an Equium Laptop with Vista installed. On my old pc (WXP) I backed up a lot of photos and files onto a DVD disc using nero, when I try to load these onto my laptop the disc is not recognized.
I have many files on other DVDs these are also not recognised, I wish to transfer these files onto my laptop. Can anybody help out with this?
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi
As you probably not known, not every CD or DVD is compatible with every drive.
This means that sometimes the medium cannot be recognized and the drive cannot read or write on CD or DVD.
In my knowledge in the user manual you should find a list of compatible CD and DVD.
PS: I use the TDK CDs and TDK DVDs. Im very satisfied

  • HP Pavilion g4, reinstall Win7 64bit fm a DVD disc, not work

I try to fix a problem for my friend's laptop. It is HP Pavilion G4
running Win 7 64bit OS. The laptop can not start up the windows. I
press ESC to pause the start up, and run system recovery, it shows BIOS
setup, system recovery and others, I then press Fn + 11 key to run
system recovery, but it never runs.
I then remove the HDD, and connect to my computer to run testing. It
seems it has something inside corrupted. It takes so long to recognize
all partitions. I decide to format all partitions and then resize
them. Afterwards, I run test and chkdsk. Everything is fine with the
HDD now. I put the HDD back to Laptop, and insert a DVD disc of Win
7, the laptop does not start from DVD. The screen shows as follows:
    Hard Disk Error
Please run the Hard Disk Test in System Diagnostics.
    Hard Disk 1 (3F1)
    F2 System Diagnostics
I visit the above link, I could not find relevant materials.
If I press ESC to exit start up. I can hear the DVD ROM is running,
but still not work. The screen shows as follows:
    Startup Menu
    F1 System Information
    F2 System Diagnostics
    F9 Boot Device Options
    F10 BIOS Setup
    F11 System Recovery
    Enter - Continue Start up
Only F1 would respond when I press. Other Fn does not respond at all.
Do you have clue and suggestion for me ?

You do not use Fn + the key indicated. For instance to enter BIOS you simply tap F10. Recovery would have been F11, not Fn + F11.

  • Ts-L633a DVD drive not compatible with Windows 7 64bit upgrade

Ts-L633a DVD drive on my Pavilion Dv7 1232nr is not compatible with Windows 7 64bit upgrade but will work fine if I downgrade back to Vista 64bit so what DVD drive is there other then the TS-L633a drive that I already have that is compatible with the Windows 7 64 upgrade so that I can buy and install on my laptop.

Here's one out of nowhere:  do you have CD/DVD software that includes Sonic DLA or something like it?  I've seen that take over drives and prevent normal operation.
If you right click on the drive and hit properties, are there any suspicious looking tabs?
Total WAG, and about 1% likely, but there you go.

  • Discs not compatible anymore in my DVD player

    Hello,
I recently bought a mac pro with a pioneer 112 in. Now when I create a DVD using Encore they come up as incompatible in my Panasonic DMR-E55 dvd recorder. Never had this problem with my previous Pioneer 105 in a PC and am using the same discs.. Anybody have an idea?
ps. The DVD plays fine in my PS3

When you use the DVDs in the Mac Pro, does the DVD Player application start automatically? If not, they may not be in the UDF format required by most DVD players. Computers, and the PS3 may play other formats. Disk Utility will show the format of a DVD. It could also be a media problem. Try Verbatim DVD-R or DVD+R DL

  • HP DVD burner not compatible?

I recently purchased the HP Dvd Writer 635i from someone on ebay who said it is mac compatible. HP however, says it is not mac compatible (as I recently found out). My computer recognizes it as a reader, but not a writable drive!!!
Do you know of any place I could get a 3rd party driver for it, or any other way I can get this drive to work? I do not have a copy of Toast, but it seems that it's a hardware/driver problem more than anything...?
I run OS 10.3.9 on my 400mhz gigabit ethernet G4
    Thanks!

What do you mean by bootable?
It reads cds & DVD + & - R discs well... it just won't write
    Apple System Profiler says this:
    HP DVD Writer 635d:
    Manufacturer: HP
    Model: HP DVD Writer 635d
    Revision: JPS3
    Serial Number: 4265210052
    Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW
    Disc Burning: Not Supported
    Removable Media: Yes
    Detachable Drive: No

    I will try Patchburn!!

  • Idvd burned to dvd+r not compatible with pc?

i've dragged an imovie to idvd, burned a dvd+r and turned it over to someone to show on a pc, and it's not reading.
    i would appreciate your help!
    thanks.

The DVD drives on some PCs will have trouble with DVD-R, but should be fine with +R. You might want to try reducing errors by slowing down the burning process and using the highest quality media (Verbatim is often recommended; I also use Sony). To burn slowly, you'll need to create a disc image from iDVD, and with older versions of iDVD, I've read that Patchburn software is needed. Search this forum for details.

  • PAL DVD Disc not being read

I recently tried my first hand at burning a DVD. Accidentally I burnt it in PAL format. I was using Toast 7. It burnt well, no problems, and was readable on my DVD player. But as it was my first attempt it was merely a test DVD+RW that had a menu a short vid and an audio file. I was testing that this would all work. And it did...
When I put the DVD back into my computer it cannot be read, or atleast it wants me to think that. It is not showing up on the desktop nor in the finder window. When I open up toast it can read it and all its contents when I go to disc info. Then I tried to click erase and am given option of erase or quick erase. If I click on either one I get the error "The drive is busy or has been reserved by anotehr application." At first I thought this was a Toast issue, but seeing as how it can recognize it and others cant (DVD Player gives me error about not supported format) I thus think this is an OSX issue.
So I guess my question is, sorry about the long leader, does make support PAL discs? Is there any way, short of getting a PAL computer drive/operating system, to read this disc in order to erase the contents (remember its a DVD+RW) inorder to use it again. Can I force Toast to erase it bypassing the error? Is this disc a gonner, waste of plastic?
    Any info would be helpful.
    Thanks
    mad-elph

It shouldn't matter what TV format a rewritable dvd was burned under when it comes to erasing it - it should just be erased. There are a few options to try here.
    1. delete the current toast preference file and restart.
    2. Delete the cache file (or you can do a clean of all user cache files which might be easier) using one of several 3rd party apps - here's a free one - http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html
    3. Reinstall a fresh copy of Toast
    Hope this helps.

  • Mac Compatible External DVD Burner Not Compatible?

I just recently bought the New Samsung Slim External DVD Writer SE-S084. It does not respond at all. It gives me no desktop icon when I plug it in via USB(which is it's only power source).
It claims on the box that it is MAC Compatible, OS requirement for MAC is version 10.4.6 Tiger. I'm updated to 10.4.11 so shouldn't be a problem there. In my search I came across somebody who had the same issue with the same Samsung product, and with a firmware update recommended by another poster, their problem was resolved. Everything worked fine.
Both of my EFI and SMC firmware is updated. Could it be I have to reinstall the firmware?
I also tried to use PatchBurn with no avail. Do I need PatchBurn?
I am so lost. Can anyone help me with this? It seems like a simple solution has to be out there, I just can't find it on my own.
    Thanks!

I am a little bit miffed at the fact that you have a newer Macbook and you have a problem with the Optical drive. Did you restart the computer and select OSX instead of Windows, then open Safari and then go to Samsung's web site, and support then find your model of external and download the drivers for it. They should open and run automaticlly, if not they will give you the instructions on how to download them. When you do this make sure you have the external plugged in. I would also make sure that you are plugged into the USB-2 port, and not the USB-1 port.
If all that fails Google for your model Samsung and type in SAMSUNG EXTERNAL SLIMLINE DRIVERS FOR MAC. then hit enter. many times you can find opensource drivers there that are better than factory drivers.
Check as well and make sure there isn't a recall or a fix from Apples Site for your Internal Optical drive. It simply doesn't make since that you have a failure on this newer optical drive.
Did you Run Macjanitor, or Cache OutX, or Onyx, and did you repair permissions. Any one of these or a combination could fix your problem if the optical drive isn' fried.
Any of the software mentioned is FREE and you can Google for them.

  • Macbook Pro install DVD disc not with computer

has anyone else been in this situation where the install discs were not in the box when you purchased your Macbook Pro?

Not had that problem myself but i know that sometimes in a store they take a DVD from a box if they are short on DVD's, that has happened here before and forgot to put a new one back. Just call them / get back to the store and ask for one and they should give you one right away or send it to you.

  • Dvd disc not ejecting.

When I try to eject the disc it starts to eject and seems to get stuck before the disc gets out and then gets sent back inside. I have tried ejecting the disc from the Finder window, by dragging the disc icon to the trash, direct from disc utilities and by a forced eject by holding down the mouse button on restart.
This is not the first time this has happened and has happened with different types disc's.
It seems to me that it's a mechanical problem, not software but any suggestions would be helpful.

    Hi Christopher
{quote:}This is not the first time this has happened and has happened with different types disc's.
    It seems to me that it's a mechanical problem, {quote}
Take it in to be checked out, that sounds like either a bad eject mechanism or the drive is slightly out of line with the case and making for a hard eject.

  • Problem backing up library to DVD - disk not recognised

    Hi all,
I have just tried to back up my iTunes library (approx. 7000 songs) to Sony DVD-R (for General Version 2.1 / 16X-Speed DVD-R Revision 6.0, 7 DVDs in total).
There didn't seem to be any problem with the burning process - I am using an HP Pavilion laptop (bought in 2005) with DVD R/RW.
When the backup was complete, I tried inserting the first DVD to check it had worked - however, nothing was recognised by iTunes (latest version - 7.3.2) and when I looked at the disc in Windows Explorer it appeared to be empty.
However, there was no indication when I was burning the files that there was a problem - it seemed to work perfectly.
Should I try a different brand of DVD? I tried to burn some pictures to the same kind of disk, through Windows XP, and it did not work, so it may well be that the brand of DVD is not compatible with my laptop.
I am also considering backing up using an external hard drive - is this a reliable method? Is it just a case of copying my iTunes folder over to the external drive?
Also, would it be a good idea to copy to an external drive in stages, to avoid corrupting files, or could I do it in one single step?
There is no problem with my laptop (yet!), but I am keen to back this library up as I know how quickly things can change with computers!
    Many thanks for any help.

  • DVR620 DVD/VHS Combo Compatible Discs??

I am using Sony DVD+R 120 min. discs for dubbing VHS to DVD, and they work beautifully.  Has anyone used any of the 240 min. discs listed on Page 10 of the Manual?  They suggest Verbatim DVD+R 8x as one option that is compatible with this unit.  When I load that one I get Error Message as found in the Manual on Page 106 stating "Please eject the disc: Playblack feature may not be available on this disc" and they state the cause that the disc is not playable and refer to Page 10 for a list of standardized disc. I wanted to dub a 4 hr. VHS tape to a DVD that was 240 mins. (4 hrs.)  I originally had tried the Memorex DVD +R 240 min. and got the red barred circle icon, but noticed it wasn't listed in the Manual as one they suggest so I purchased the Verbatim brand.  I don't want to keep buying different disc to find that they are not compatible with this machine.  Disc's aren't cheap!  To get around the problem I used the Sony 120 min disc and set the recording mode to LP to give me the 4 hours I needed.  Anyone out there ever used any 240 min. discs successfully on the DVR620 DVD/VHS Combo???

I believe that when you say "240 minute disc" that you are referring to a DVD-R/DL (dual layer) disc. You can't use these in the Toshiba model DVD recorders. I don't think I've yet found a consumer model set-top DVD recorder (regardless of brand) that will accept them.
If you want to record a 4-hour event on a single DVD using the Toshiba, you'll have to record it in LP as you've already tried.
Or, break it up into 2 2-hour events on 2 DVDs recorded at SP mode.

  • Cannot install Logic from DVD version 9.0.0. because it is not compatible with the latest OS 10.8.3

As I tried to install Logic 9.0.0 the OS comes out with a message saying that the OS is not compatible with this version of Logic.
I have Logic conventional DVD Software package.
How can I get this done?
    Any help, I appreciate!
    Thanks!

No, the message prevents me from installing.
Now, I took the App Icon from my Laptop which has the latest Logic Update installed and throw it in my new iMac's Application Folder. It seems to work OK.
What I havent installed are the Additional Content and all the DVDs that come with Logic.

Have you seen this type of problem before? I think it could be a serious issue for anyone in a similar position.
No; but then, I've not had occasion to use TDM. I've been using firerwire drives for over 10 years, both FW400 and FW800, with no issues except a bit of instability using a B&W G3 machine.
TDM should be safe. Using cautious, manual copying of files from the Target machine to the Host machine should not result in unexpected loss of files or damage to the Target drive's directories. It should behave exactly the same as if it were an external (to the Host) firewire drive.
    •  I don't suppose there is anything I can do to 'put back' lost items from a separate Time Machine drive which has an up to date backup on it.
There is probably a way to do that - seems to me that's one of the reasons for a Time Machine volume.
On the other hand, if the Time Machine volume is rigidly linked to the now-absent OS on the original drive, there may be no way to effectively access the files in the TM archive.
I know that using a cloned drive would work well in this instance.
I have no experience with Time Machine, so perhaps someone who has will chime in with suggestions.
With the machine in TDM with the other machine, have you tried running Disk Utility to see if you can effect repairs to the drive?
