  • Burned disc won't play in CD Player

    Help Please!
I burned a disc in iTunes.
    The disc will play in the computer;
but it won't play in the CD player in
the car or the home stereo.
I suspect it is a file extension issue,
but I don't know how to check or change
    anything.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes Audio CD should play just about anywhere so if it's not playing then it's not down to the setting you have chosen. It may just be your players, some can be fussy about what they will read, or it could even be the CD media itself. Have you been able to play CDs you've burned before or is this the first time you've had a problem? Have you another brand of blank CDs you can try?
Another thing you could try is reducing the burn speed and see if that helps, especially of you have it set at Maximum Possible. Open iTunes and go to Edit>Preferences>Burning and reduce the Preferred speed down. The packaging for your CD should have a maximum burn speed quoted somewhere, go lower than that. For instance if it's 24x try burning at 16x

  • DVD SP burned disc won't play on DVD player

I recently compiled a FCP HD project into Standard Defintion 16:9 and imported it into DVD SP 4. I build, format and burned a DVD-R disc without any problems. However the disc won't play on any of the DVD players in my house (1 philips and 1 Pioneer). I checked all settings and can't find anything wrong! Remarkably, just before this I burned an older (SD 4:3) project on the same brand/type disc and that one worked flawless.
What am I missing, pleas help!
    Evert

Double check to make sure you did not make an HD DVD (take a look to see what is on the disc, are the folders VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS or other name? It can happen where you think you made an SD but it is HD ) Also did you set a first play? Did you somehow make an NTSC (or PAL) and playing it on a machine that is not NTSC/PAL as applicable?
What brand media did you use? Some brands can be inconsistent...

  • DVDSP discs won't play

I'm using a G4 at work with Final Cut Studio 1. I know it's out of date, but money is a factor. So, I'm trying to work with what we've got...
I've exported all my files from Final Cut Pro HD v.4.5 and authored a DVD using DVDSP v.3.0.2. I've been doing this for months without running into a problem this large. I burned the final DVD without seeing any error messages in the build tab (aside from: Warning: The file ‘SATURDAY_OPENING.layout’ found in the VIDEO_TS folder will not be included in the final disc.
Warning: The file ‘VOB_DATA.LAY’ found in the VIDEO_TS folder will not be included in the final disc... which I understand shouldn't be on the disc anyway). So when I put it into two different DVD players and two computers, the disc won't play. When I pop it into the G4, the main menu DOES come up. However, the "Play All" button flashes profusely and if you click on either the Play All button or the Chapter Selection Button, the menus fades back and forth between themselves until it freezes. It's like it can't tell what it's supposed to be doing. I've checked all my setting and preferences and I can't find anything that would force it to do anything like this.
    Am I missing something?

Did you set any buttons to be auto-activated? Have you set a time out value on any of the buttons in the property inspector? These are probably the two most likely causes of flashing buttons and so on.
Check through your settings and make sure that you haven't inadvertently set anything like these in place.

  • MP4 H.264 video won't play in Flash Player

I am using a Mac Book, OS X 10.8.5; FireFox 32.0.1; Flash Player 16.0.0.305.  I am trying to play video (MP4 H.264 format) that works on VLC, Quicktime Player & Real Player but won't play through Flash Player.  Why?

I'll take a look at the GPL sources to see how the firmware encodes the video output, I think the mpeg encoder might be built into the firmware's Linux kernel (instead of a stand-alone encoder program), I see references to the IBM mpeg2 headers but I'm not sure. But honestly addressing this possible bug is not the first thing on my todo list, but I do fidn this report interesting enough to merit investigation.
May I ask what you are using for the Samba server (aka windows shares)? Do you use your desktop PC, or perhaps a NAS server?
As an interim thing to try, I advice you install VLC media player to view the files, or to use VLC to examine the media files properties to see what you can findout.
IF you must use Windows media player, then I suggest you look into the combine community codex package.

  • IDVD burned discs won't play on any dvd player

When I burn a dvd using Idvd they will not play on standard dvd players.
Is this a problem with anyone else?
I noticed it was a problem in the early 2000-2003 but apparently something got fixed, because I couldn't find an incident where this problem continued to occur.
I am new to the Mac world and I don't always understand the acronymns used when I read responses.  However, here is my problem.
    Burning dvd's using Idvd:
    1.  the burn seems to run and function normally
    2. when I insert the burned dvd into a dvd player one of the following things occur:
         a) loading takes a very long time, then I get a message saying "wrong disc"
          b) loading occurs fast, reads the file as a dvd, the dvd begins playing the music and showing the main menu screen, after accessing a menu option the dvd begins to play the slideshow with the music then after a minute or two, it freezes, and is no longer readable when attempting to reload it, the message is "wrong disc"
    3.  I've tried using dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd+r dual layer, and changing the burn speed to 8x, then to 4x and then to 2x.  Nothing seems to matter.
    4.  I have noticed that in Idvd the dvd type is for an older version of dvd's such as single layer 4.2 gb and double layer 7.7 gb. I'm wondering whether the Idvd software on my MacMini is up to date, even though when I check for updates under the apple it comes back saying my system is up to date.
    I'm using a MacMini running Mac OSX v 10.6.8 with processor 2.26ghz, Intel core 2 duo, memory 2gb 1067 mhz ddr3, and my dvd drive is a pioneer dvd-rw dvrts08, firmware q81f.
I really need help to fix the problem with the IDVD software or to know that I need to purchase another DVD maker software for my Mac.  The product below says my Mac is running OS X v 10.7.2 but it isn't it is running v 10.6.8 as I stated.
    URGENT!!!!

My macmini is under 2 years old.  I reviewed your list of affects and I am going down the list to determine possible cause and effect.
I did try the PRAM process.  The DVD still won't play on my DVD player but it did play on my son's Sony blue ray.  I burned it at 2x burn rate after the PRAM process completed.
I can assume that's progress.  The audio did however skip a couple of times while playing.  That is new.
I will continue down the list using different type of blank dvd's etc.
Question: As I was reading through some other issues I'm learning that Mac/Apple is discontinuing IDVD, is that correct?
Are you aware of some other software to purchase that will create dvd's on the mac?  If so, I may as well go that route rather than wasting more time using a defunct product.  What is your opinion?

  • Disc won't play in  DVD player

I just burned a project with iDVD 6 and while it works fine on my Mac, It won't play on my regular DVD player. I know that my main DVD player plays DVD-R because it has played every DVD that I've recorded from my spindle. I test them all on this player. I burned 2 copies of this project and neither would play on my main DVD player... but they would play on my bedroom DVD player. What could this be?

    What could this be?
It could be one of several things (or a combination thereof). A dirty lens on the set top dvd player for example. When is the last time you used a quality Maxell or 3M dvd lens cleaner kit? Avoid cheapy kits since they can cause more issues than they resolve.
It could be the media itself.
It could be that you need to lower the burn speed to make the media more readable to this particular set top DVD Player.
It could be that your set top player is a bit dated and refuses to play newer media/s.
Best to take your finished iDvd to a store that sells these DVD Players and try it out on several machines. See if it still happens on other players as well.
Btw, please tell me you are not using Memorex or TDK. I recommend Verbatim or Maxell (your choice) while troubleshooting on this iDvd Forum.

  • CD/DVD R discs won't play in Sony DVD player system.

I have just backed up my music and photos on CD R and DVD R discs on my new Macbook Pro. None will play on my Sony player. I previously purchased CD RW from Verbatim recorded on my Powerbook G4 and they play fine. I know there is technology change here, but what should I buy? For instance, can I still purchase discs that would play in my 4 year old dvd player or is that a waste of time? Do I need a new player?

I'd suspect the player since it is 4 years old and especially since it is a Sony who was slow to embrass that technology in the DVD players.
Before I bought my DVD player to play MP3 , I made a MP3 CDR took it to a store and played the disc in all the different models. Sony were the worst at the time. Heck within the same model one would play the disc and the other not.

  • Hddvd disc won't play in dvd player?

I took 49 mins of hd video edited in fcp and compressed it to quicktime h.264 video for dvdsp. The project is 4.5 gb. My prefs in dvdsp show 1280x720p resolution with a 16:9 letterbox. The encoding prefs are one pass vbr with 18.0 bitrate.
I simulated and burned the project fine. The resulting dvd will not play in either a dvd player or a tv with dvd combined. It will only play in my mac.
Is this what I should have expected? Can hddvd's not be read in today's players?

  • DVD won't play in ordinary player

    Hi,
I'm quite new to the whole process of creating DVDs, so I tried using iDVD but it's a terrible program so Iäm trying to use DVD Studio Pro without knowing much about it. I've burned a DVD using it and it won't play on an ordinary player. It simulates fine in DVD Studio, and it plays back fine on the computer, but simply doesn't register in any DVD player. Can anyone suggest any reason why this might be the case?
Thank you all in advance for your help!
    Kinkersnick

Thank you for such a quick reply! Ok, so here's a bit more information. The DVD is actually only a single video (of about 60 mins.) which has the first play set to it - the little disc with play arrow on it in the graphical display. The disc is an SD DVD not an HD DVD (first, and only, thing I thought would be the problem). Here is a copy of the burning details:
Warning: The file ‘VOB_DATA.LAY’ found in the VIDEO_TS or HVDVD_TS folder will not be included in the final disc.
Warning: The file ‘WIMWENDERS.layout’ found in the VIDEO_TS or HVDVD_TS folder will not be included in the final disc.
    Start formatting
    Formatting as Standard DVD
    Simulation mode is off
    Lossless linking is on
    Number of layers is 1
    Doing side 1 of 1
    Playable in region 1,2,3,4,5,6,8
    Disc size is 12 cm
    Disc has no copyright material
I don't know if any of this is relevant though. I#m confused as to what the two errors at the beginning mean... perhaps they have something to do with the problem???
The media used is DVD-R and has been tried in 3 different players, all relatively new, which suggests to me it's unlikely to be the media.
I'm at a total loss here, so I would appreciate any and all help!
    Thanks in advance,
    Kinkersnick

  • Burned DVD won't play on outside player but OK with Toast

    Here we go again!
After scanning the other posts I still cannot find anything to make my problem go away.
Situation: New G5 Quad and all of HD Suite installed.
Have gone through DVDPro advanced tutorial OK.
    Burned to Memorex DVD-R media.
Plays great on G5, and a G3 that I still have, with DVD Player app.
But after trying disc on 3 different outside players they still come up with "unreadable disk" or "bad disk".
Players are relatively new - one mf'd within the last year in a TV combo, and the other, my favorite, Apex AD1200.
I figure if something will play on ANY machine, it will play on the Apex.
I have burned the same file to Toast 7 using the DVD Video from VIDEO_TS option and have been able to play it on my Apex with no problem.
However, inserting this "Toasted" disk into my computer gets me everything except the audio.
I have talked to Support and they do not cover this problem, but pointed me to a page on the Apple website for deleting preferences, which I have done with no effect, and have done a clean re-install of the application, again with no change in what I am getting when re-burning disks.
Anyone have any ideas as to what needs to be done to make this application work properly?

    GENTLEMEN -
I posted this to the BMUG website subsequent to chasing down the suggestions offered at that time.
So far the response has been ZERO . . .
At the March 20 meeting I brought up my problems with selecting the correct media for burning my DVD Pro files so that they would play well across a range of dvd players out in the real world - approaching what you expect when you buy a commercially produced DVD movie.
I’m running the G5 Quad, and have the Final Cut Studio HD package.
I am simply looking for some guidance from Apple. Is there a favorite media that has been settled on by Apple, or Apple employees by word of mouth?
One of the attendees stated that he had no problems with his machine or disks that he produced. I wish to communicate with him as to exactly what he is doing and what he is using to be problem-free.
Another attendee suggested I contact the drive manufacturer and ask what media they recommend. Problem is, there is nothing in the Apple profiler that tells me who manufactured this drive. All I can glean from my profiler is the model number, which is HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4165B. Other forums suggest it is a Hitachi. My own investigation yields the probable manufacturer as LG Electronics. They do not show that EXACT model number (the last 4 digits are slightly different) in their lineup, so I am assuming it is a special build for Apple. So much for that line of inquiry.
I initially used DVD-R media. This played back OK on my computer DVD player, and about 2 out of 15 other DVD players I sampled. Using the same media and file, I burned a disk using Toast 7 on the superdrive. It played fine on three players it did not play on before. I only used the ones that I had immediate access to.
When I switched to 2 different DVD+R media I got the same results as the “Toasted” -R disk.
Why is it OK with Toast on the superdrive, but not with DVDPro on the superdrive???
There is no question about the correctness of the file itself. It is the completed Advanced Tutorial for DVD Pro.
I cannot proceed with projects I have until I can be certain that I am not producing coasters for the majority of the dvd readers out in the real world. I purchased all this gear just so that I could do what it promises can be done with it.
    Some answers.
    Please.

  • Duplicate CD Won't Play in CD Player

    Hi,
I am trying to make a back up copy of my CD's and they won't play in a regular CD player. Please tell me what am I doing wrong?
I am using Disk Utility. First I select the disc in the drive. Go to "File" then "New" then "Disk Image from folder" Hit "Image" and it saves the disc image to my folder.
Then I insert a blank disc, select the file and hit "Burn". Disc Utility burns and verifies the disc. I load the disc into my player, but all I have is silence.
There is only one track on the burned cd.
What's wrong? Can't I make copies of discs on a Mac? This was easier on the PC for sure.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Tony

Well, I've used Toast since version 8, when I got it back in 2006. It's always been faster at creating DVDs than iDVD, more reliable for burning CDs than iTunes, and comparable to Disk Utility and Mac's native Burn Utility for data and software burns.
As has been pointed out here, you can't always rely on support forums for a product review, because the people who have no problems with it, aren't posting there. You don't find folks bragging about their health in the Emergency room... not nearly like you would at the gym.

  • Blue Ray Disc Won't Play

I insert a blue ray disc, It starts the HP MediaSmart Player and then comes up with an error message stating:
    Information
    The content is protected.
The content is not allowed to play in the current display mode.
The computer is only a month old and has never played a blue ray.  its plays regular DVD just fine.
Any ideas what the problem coould be?

    Hi,
It seems that your PC has old version of MediaSmart installed, and it does not get updated from Cyberlink (Who created PowerDVD too).
Please follow the steps given below to get it resolved.
Click Start->Control Panel->PRograms and Features. Select MediaSmart DVD and click Uninstall. Uninstall PowerDVD too.
    Install MediaSmart New Version:
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp49489.exe
    Or
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50778.exe
If it does not work, install Trial copy of PowerDVD:

  • Burned CDs won't play on portable player

My friend who has a PC has been burning CDs for me of spoken-word MP3s. They play fine on my portable CD player. Recently she gave me a USB drive with a bunch of MP3s for me to burn myself on my new MacBook Pro. The CDs I burned won't play on the CD player (but they will play in iTunes on my computer). I don't understand what's going on...can anyone help out? Thanks.

Yes, if your interest is only in burning CDs and you don't want to keep the music in iTunes, the process is pretty cumbersome. You may want to buy a disc burning application like Toast, which can burn all sorts of formats without your needing to import anything into iTunes.
