DVD disk to iPod touch?

Hi. I was wondering if there was a way to transfer a DVD movie into iTunes so I can sync it to my IPT? Thanks in advance!

If you mean commercially released films or TV shows on DVD I'm afraid that can't be discussed as that involves breaking the encryption on them. Such discussions are against the terms of use. • How do I copy my DVDs to my iPod Touch?

Just got an iPod Touch for Xmas but cannot seem to copy my DVDs to my iPod Touch.
Please note that I am posting from the UK & that I therefore have Region 2 DVDs.

If you are referring to commercially produced DVD movies, unfortunately, because of copyright issues discussing this subject is not permitted on Apple's forums as the Apple Discussions User Agreement now clearly states.
Under item 2, para 8.2 it says "Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store."

  • What's the best Mac app to copy movies from a DVD to the iPod Touch?

So let's say i have a DVD and i want to make a copy of it and use an app to transfer it to my iPod Touch, what's the best way of doing this?
I heard of Handbrake and Videora, are they any good?
EDIT: I am using a Mac (OS X)

I use DVD decrypter in rip my DVD's to .vob, which is the same format the movie is on the disk
and then use Videora to convert to .mp4 with ipod touch codecs and high resolution
most end up being 900MB to 1.5GB

  • Syncing DVDs to your iPod Touch

    Hello,
This is my first post on Apple Discussions. I would like to first comment on how supportive and polite this community seems to be, and cannot wait to get active in it.
Apple products are some of the best in my opinion. Innovative, fun, and very usable. You guys are evolving technology in ways no one else has. The work Apple has done on computers, handhelds, and even small accessories have led the path to inspiration and innovation in technology.
Okay, I am done sucking up now, haha. I will move on to my question.
Is it possible for you to sync DVD's, that you have bought at a store, with your iPod Touch? If so, can you use a CD-ROM, or do you need a CD-DVD on your computer? For example, I can take albums I have bought, let's say Elton John's +Songs From the West Coast+, and put them in my CD-ROM and they will automatically add those songs in a database that I can copy to my iTunes which I can sync to my Touch. Is the same possible with DVDs?
There are tons of movies I have bought that I would really like to contribute to my iPod Touch library. Some movies I have on DVD aren't even available in the iTunes Store. Now that is really frustrating.
Please give personal experiences with this, official Apple documentation about this, or any support you can give. I will greatly appreciate it!
Thanks in advance for all support!
    Chase

Well I wasn't planning on ripping, but I bought the DVD, and I am not redistributing it, so shouldn't I be fine?
Is there no way to add it on the Touch without "ripping" it?
And if I can't add a DVD onto my Touch, is there a place where I can suggest videos to be added to the iTunes store.
Thanks for the quick response as well.

  • Why doesn't itunes have an simple upload option for putting CDs and DVDs into my ipod touch library?

I have movies and CDs I don't want to have to purchase again through itunes that I would like to put on my ipod touch without a lot of complicated hassles. I don't understand why it isn't a simple point and click and it happens option on my itunes library list of options. I have four kids and a ton of work and don't have time or expertise to spend figuring out how to make that work by reading through manuals. I don't see the point in buying the same music or movies or books twice. I work in a job that allows me to listen to my ipod while I work. This is a huge perk for an otherwise tedious and boring job, but I don't have time or money to spend buying extra movies or reading a ton of technical information trying to figure this all out. If they can do all the other stuff they do with an ipod touch I don't see why this request should be a serious challenge.
I took a guess on my operating system. I don't know. Do you see the huge list of operating systems? That seems like a lot. It seems to me that everything should be compatible with everything else or people like me that expect to be able to do what other systems can do get really frustrated and irritated when we realize that we can't because capabilities and limitations where not emphasized in the advertising.

HA! I'll add it to my favorites bar... then maybe I will be able to find it again. I just hope I can remember the password and username. You know that they aren't secure unless you change them every six months. Do you realize how many different computer systems and programs I have to engage in work and for personal use?! How in the heck am I supposed to remember all my passwords and usernames?! Oh, and it's not safe to write them down... especially with a bonehead like me that has too many irons in the fire and can't remember where he put his keys!

  • How do you add DVDs to you iPod touch?

I'm trying to put my DVDs into my iTunes so that I can put them onto my iPod. So far I haven't figured out how to do it. Do any of you know how to do it?

If you mean DVD movies that you purchased, then that is illegal and cannot be discussed here.

  • Importing DVD to iPod Touch

Can anyone tell me how to transfer a DVD to my iPod Touch? I know that you can purchase them at the iTunes store, but I would like to get some movies that I ALREADY PURCHASED on DVD. Thanks in advance....

First you have to put the DVD onto your computer and then convert it. There are a lot of programs that can be used for this.
I use DVD Decrypter to put DVDs on my computer and Videora to convert them so I can put them on my iPod.

  • Convert DVDs to Ipod touch

    Help is much appreciated.

  • How do I recover photos that were NOT backed up from ipod touch 4th generation?

I have a iPod Touch (4TH Genration). It was frozen for two days straight on the apple logo. I kept holding the two keys and tried to connect it to itunes and it wouldn't budge. On the third day I conected it to itunes, and it told me that it nedded to be restored and that my photos would be backed up. Now here I am with a funny acting ipod and NO photos!
Does anyone know how to get photos that were not backed up?

    Try these third party alternatives:

  • Is there a way to transfer DVDs to itunes/ipod?

im trying to transfer my Michael Jackson's Visions dvd to my ipod touch. i know you can buy it in itunes, but i don't want to rebuy the movie just so it can be put on my ipod touch. i wanted to see if the imovies app would work but it seems to just be for mac.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • HT203180 VIDEO NOT SHOWING ON IPOD TOUCH HELP ME!!!!!!

Yesterday I decided to download some DVDs onto my ipod touch, newest generation if that helps. So i bought a DVD - itunes converter from mac app store and it converted the DVDs for me. I could see them on my itunes but when I tried to put them on my ipod a little message came up saying 'this video is not suitable for your ipod' or something like that. It turned out It had been programmed to play on an ipad. So I re-downloaded the movie, clicking the box that said 'ipod touch' and it worked, fine, I could see it in my itunes. HOWEVER when I dragged the movie onto my device no message came up this time but it isn't showing on my ipod!!! I can'y sync it because its my whole familys and has about a billion of my dads songs and about 100 'learn the alphabet' apps for my little brother. It would take me so long to delete everything.
I really hope you can help, because I am going on a 12 hour journey tommorow and I need to entertain myself in the car.
Thanks p.s think its ios 6 but could be 6.1 or 6.2

    Hi Eliecer,
Does the movie show up on a music video playlist, under Music? You can highlight the video in iTunes and choose Get Info, from the File menu, to change or view the video Kind.
Was the movie purchased from the iTunes Store?
Try resetting the iPod touch by holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple logo as described here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305743
If the issue persists, restore the iPod as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

  • Ipod touch mixer

Hi people, this is my first post on here so don't shhot me down in flames just yet!
    Anyway 2 questions really.
    1) good idea? why doesn't someone create a programme on the ipod touch that allows you to mix two songs together... i.e a dj mixing programme?
    2) can i transfer some of mu u/k dvd's onto ipod touch and watch them?
    mick

    1. The Touch doesn't support crossfade, but you can use other software and join songs together into one "mix" (song) that is crossfaded on the computer.
    2. Can't discuss copying DVDs to an iPod here.

  • IPod Touch not showing up in Disk Utility

    Hello,
As my title says I can't get my iPod to show up in disk utility. It will show up in my iTunes fine, and works great but for some reason when I bring up Disk Utility, nothing shows up, as if it's not plugged in.
    Thanks,
    Chris Kefalas

So my next thing to try was to take an image of Snow Leopard that I have, and put that onto my iPod touch and then boot off my iPod touch, and install it that way since my disc drive isn't working...
i wouldn't even consider doing that with an iPod classic. instead, i would get a cheap USB drive (better yet, a firewire drive), use *disk utility* to restore the image of the SL install disk to a small (10 gig) partition there, and boot from the external.
you could also use another Mac to do a *remote install*. click here for information.
yet another option, again involving another Mac, is to enable *remote disk*:
The CD/ROM in my computer busted, so I decided to try to remotely mount the CD from another computer on mine. I know the MacBook Air can do this, so I reasoned that any Mac could. It turns out it is possible, but the solution is far from obvious -- after much searching, I found the solution here.
Here's a quick synopsis. Go to System Preferences » Sharing, and enable 'DVD or CD Sharing.' (I think you need to do this on both machines -- the one with the drive and the one without the CD/ROM drive). Then, on the computer that does not have the CD drive on it, go to a Terminal window and enter:
$ defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser EnableODiskBrowsing -bool true
$ defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser ODSSupported -bool true
Reboot this machine, and when the reboot is finished, you'll see the remote CD/DVD under Devices in the Finder's sidebar. Thereafter, you can remotely mount a CD/DVD from another machine.
