DVD doesn't start

I borrowed DVD - "WORKS of ART by THEO ANSEN"
After inserting the cd, Dvd player starts, but it doesn't work. I can see dvd menu right cornet at bottom of the screen. The movie doesn't start, but also I can't select anything in the menu. I can't even quit Dvd player, so I have to press shut down button. Why is that?

Hello!
The first thing you probably want to check is whether the DVD is clean or not. It may freeze when you put the disc in because it is having trouble reading it. So, first clean it off. Second, I would open up the DVD player application before you insert the DVD, and make sure the screen size isn't set to full screen, so you can see the desktop. Insert the DVD, and when it freezes, try clicking on the desktop and see if it can put the desktop in the foreground. You may get the spinning color wheel - let it sit for a while and see if it can fix itself. If it can't, press commandoptionescape and see if DVD player says "not responding" next to it. If it does, force quit DVD player.
If you can't get it to play with the above options, then I would try two more things. First, I would try a different DVD. If another DVD runs fine, then you can be sure that nothing is wrong with the computer and it is the initial DVD that is causing problems. If all DVD's freeze when you put them in, I would question whether the DVD application is working correctly; a reinstallation may be necessary.
Also, for added measure, why don't you go ahead and repair the permissions on your hard disk. You can do this by opening hard drive/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility. Disk Utility is a very powerful tool which allows you to perform many functions. All that we are interested in is the "repair permissions" function. On the left hand side of the Disk Utility window, you hard drive and volume will be listed. Select the OS volume, and under the +first aid+ tab select +repair permissions+. If you haven't done that in a while, you'll probably get a whole list of things that are repaired. Then, restart and try running DVD player again.
Hopefully one of these options works. Please let me know the results!

  • Share to DVD doesn't start at the beginning

I have a multicam timeline that I am trying to share to DVD. When I test the created DVD it always starts at about 3/4 of the way into the movie. I have exported a master file and I created a DVD in Wondershare Ultimate Converter and it also starts 3/4 of the way into the movie (at the exact same place). I am therefore concluding that it is my timeline that is the causing the problem but I have no idea what to look for. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Slim!
Thanks for the reply. Your screen shot is attached but it is pretty small. The position of the playhead is where the DVDs always begin.
I can only think that there is something going on with the multicam editing. This is the first time I have used it so I may be doing something wrong. Is there some way to "set" the final as a non-multicam clip? I ask this because I tried your idea of making it into a compound clip. I selected all the elements (CMD-a) and then right-clicked and selected New Compound Clip. It did not recognize my cuts but included all of the entire clips. So, undaunted, I undid all of that and tried again. This time it only selected the proper cuts and I put it into a new project. However, the DVD burned from that new project didn't change the outcome.
The funny thing is that all of the quicktime files play correctly, so there is definitely something weird going on.
Taos is great! It is an unbelievably beautiful place. We haven't had much snow this winter, though, although the ski valley has been good, but they are at 9,000 feet and we are only about 7,000.
    More ideas anyone?

ps .. thanks for the other post but I am not getting that error. My piece is only 7 mins 40 secs and the share is completing.

  • Finished DVD doesn't start with opening menu

    Hi:
I burned a 15 minute film after composing it in iMovie, adding chapters in Garageband, and editing it in iDVD. All went well, and the final results looks pretty good.
However.....when I play the DVD, it starts at a different point, plays an inserted, small film I added as a "trailer", then reverts back to the main menu (the one I wanted at the beginning). I have looked at the "flowchart" in iDVD, of the film, and the sequence seems right: main menu: sub-menus with buttons (one of which is the "trailer").
    Any ideas anyone?
    Cheers.

  • DVD Doesn't Start From Stopped Point...

    Hi All!
I have created a DVD with a standard MENU and 4 different episodes. From the MENU the user can view one of four epsiodes. The only problem is when the DVD is stopped and then played again it automatically just starts playing from Episode 4... Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hi!
This sounds exactly like the problem I encountered recently. (Presuming you meant "stopped" and not "semi-stopped" as offered by some DVD players.)
Just have a look at your DVD in VTS view - my guess is that you will find your track of Episode 4 sitting in VTS 1 in front of the menue assets. It seems that most DVD players (at least the ones we have at hand ...) after stopping the DVD do not execute the programmed startup-action but instead just play the first video track.
Now one could think that moving the Episode 4 to a later VTS would solve the problem - not quite. Now the standalone DVD players we have did not restart the DVD at all! (That is with only the menue assets left in VTS 1 and the menue or a script programmed as startup item.)
The solution: If you do not have a legal disclaimer, logo or other intro-video that you can put into VTS 1 as startup item, just generate a second of black video to put in there (set as startup item) and program anything you like as a follow-up action of that slug. Voila! Your DVD player after stopping should now restart properly with your menu (or script ...) Our's did.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Marc

  • My MacBook Pro 15,4" doesn't start at all!

    Hi everyone!
Today morning, normal day, after having my MacBook Pro charging all night (as always), I took it (without any cables) in the kitchen, in order to, very surprising, turn it on!
But nothing happens!! Checking battery status: ok (new), removing it and trying without, still nothing. I tried all reset techniques, as well as Ctrl + Cmd + Start button. But still nothing.
    What is happening?
When I press the button, I hear the DVD player making his little "clac-clac", the fan is starting, and the light as well, but as soon as I take my finger off the start button, it stops again! If I keep my finger longer on the button, it stops as well after a while (normal forced stop), but the "gong" never sound.
Can anyone help me with this? Where does it come from? I'm a computer technician, and fixed a lot of laptops, but when it comes to Apple, I panic, and I don't know what to do anymore! I'm always a bit scared to open it myself...
Maybe I should add that it's making some noise on the right fan since 2 months (as if a plastic piece was blocked inside), some kind of "clac, clac, clac", and it was getting really warm sometimes. The DVD-player is also a bit "curved", and it's problematic to extract the discs sometimes.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Cheers,
    Ron.

    Hi everyone!
    Thanks for the answers.
@Advanced User: I haven't tried that yet, but I will tonight. And I found a Store in my town, in case I cant solve it myself.
@eww: I always buy original parts, even more by Apple. Of yourse I tried without the battery. All the basic tests were done. I also opened the machine and test electrically if anything was interupted. But I couldn't find anything. I must say my son (2 years old) found it very funny last week-end to play piano (pretty strongly) on the keyboard of the MB... But I don't think he broke something, otherwise I'd be really disappointed in a 2000€ notebook...
The exact model of the MacBook is MB133D/A, and I cant access any System Profiler, because the MacBook.... doesn't start! The battery was still holding 3 hours.

  • A65-S159 - I can't use the CD Recovery because my CD/DVD doesn't work properly

Hi, I need help to reinstall the system and drives. It's a Satellite A65-S159. The CD/DVD doesn't work properly. Rarely, the CD/DVD can read a DVD. So I can't use the CD Recovery. What may I do?
    Thank you,
    Cabula, Brazil

There are two ways to run the recovery DVD, one is from Windows.  Instead power ont he computer with the disk in the drive.  And imediatly after powering on start pressing the F12 key.  After a few seconds you should see a boot device menu that you can select the CD/DVD drive to boot from.  Try that and let us know if you got the boot menu, and if the disk worked.

  • MySQL doesn't start after upgrade to 10.6.8

After installing the 10.6.8 upgrade on my Mac Mini Server (first using Software Update, then again after manually downloading and running the update), MySQL doesn't start.  Well, it seems it starts alright, but then immediately quits.  From the mysql log:
    110626 21:18:46  mysqld started
110626 21:18:46 [ERROR] Error message file '/usr/share/mysql/english/errmsg.sys' had only 480 error messages,
but it should contain at least 481 error messages.
Check that the above file is the right version for this program!
    110626 21:18:46 [ERROR] Aborting
Since I need MySQL to run my Apache server, Apache doesn't start either.  Which means all of my sites on that box are now down.
Suggestions for fixing on the MySQL site suggest reinstalling MySQL 5.0.92.  But I'm hesitant to do so.
Other suggestions are reinstalling 10.6.X from scratch, upgrading until 10.6.7 and then restore from Time Machine from the last backup before the upgrade.  Not looking forward to that either.
Does anybody have some other suggestions?
    Elizabeth Mattijsen

The usual trigger is a skewed version between the files here, though that would be unexpected.  (Similar errors have cropped up on rare occasions with previous Mac OS X Server releases; something went off the rails here.)
First, make a backup of the file or (better) boot the DVD and make a backup of the whole disk.  That's your path back if something goes wrong here.
Try re-downloading and re-loading the 10.6.8 combo update (the combo update, and not the delta update), as a potential brute-force fix.
Failing that, I'd then look to fetch a copy of the same-version kit from the MySQL server (as what is running on 10.6.8 server), and extract this specific file from the MySQL kit, and try replacing (just) that file.

  • MacBook Pro doesn't start - harddisk is not working

I am desperate. My girlfriends MacBook Pro unibody, with OS Leopard doesn't start any more. It shows the grey screen with the apple, but that's it. I tried resetting the NVRAM - it didn't help. I tried starting in Safe Boot mode - it didn't start. I have booted from the installation DVD and run Disk Utility, but it doesn't even see the partition and all the buttons to Repair or Verify the disk are grayed out. And the System Profiler doesn't see the disk, but instead just gets stuck while trying to read it.
After all this I did a deep Hardware test, but it didn't find any problems.
I suppose then that the partition, but not the harddisk is corrupt... any ideas?
And one more question: is there a way to save the data from the harddisk before trying to erase and reinstall the system, or taking it to the service?

Try putting it into Target mode...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
To try to read it's drive, or put another Mac with Firewire & a comparable OSv in T mode, hold the Option key down when booting the MBP to see if it'll boot off the the other Macs drive.
    Long shot, but...
Either boot this one in Target mode...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
And recovering from another Mac, or booting this Mac from another HDD, then using Data Rescue...
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
(Has a Free Demo to see if it could or not, but you'll need another drive to recover to).

Try this from MacFixIt as well:
In the case of drive directory damage or problems with permissions, the solution is usually to use Apple's Disk Utility to repair the disk. Of course, you won't be able to perform this operation normally (simply launching the Disk Utility application, located in Applications/Utilities, and initiating a disk repair) if your system will not startup. So two options exist:
    * Insert your Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) media (DVD or CD) and restart the computer while holding down the "C" key. Once the computer has booted from the installation disc, select "Utilities" from the menubar and open Disk Utility. Repair the disk, then quit Disk Utility and restart your system.
    * Alternatively, you can repair the disk while booted in single user mode if you do not have access to a retail Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) DVD/CD. To startup in single user mode, hold down the "Command" and "S" keys simultaneously at startup. Once properly booted, type the command fsck at the prompt. Repeat these process until no errors appear.

I updated iTunes to 10.4 version and now it doesn't start and send a messages "iTunes has detected an error and must be closed". Someone have the same problem and how can we repair our installation insted of change the windows XP installation? Best regards

Only way to get iMac starting again was to re-install 10.4.4 from DVD, and then update it into 10.4.6. For a while it worked perfectly, just as before.
Then I tried to print to CD with my EPSON Stylus Photo 950 from Adobe Photoshop Elements (2.0). It didn't print anything, but printer started flashing all lights. The print job was not performed, so I did remove it from the Printer Utility. After that the iMac started "ticking" again, same noise than before, after 10.4.7 installation. I did re-boot iMac. It never started, it does stuck on gray screen (gray block running clockwise). HW test from DVD didn't find any problems (extended search looping 3 times). But Disk Utility found hard drive to have inaccurate node structure, it could not fix it.
Apple support recommended to use DiskWarrior. However, it does not support (yet) Intel Macs. I haven't got TechTool Pro 4.5.1 anywhere. iMac does start on to FireWire mode (T at boot), but I cannot see the disk from 10.2.8 iMac.
So, obvisously the problem is not 10.4.7. I believe it to be ESPON printer driver compatibility on Mac OSX. This does not suprise me, EPSON printers *****, I shall never purchase one again. However, disk catalog structure should not get messed by one faulty printer driver!

  • After Effects doesn't start.

doesn't start. nothing. just a *ding*. even if i run as administrator. ditto for my other adobe programs.
It has worked fine before! but after i downloaded a few stuff from videocopilot, it just stopped.
when i click it all it does is show my cursor loading, makes a sound, and doesn't start.
PLEASE help me if you can.
ps. dont ask me for screenshots. you can't possibly get screenshots in my situation.

Should not add to the matter. If he can't launch any Adobe program, something serious is up. I would suspect that the whole licensing system has bugged out. also could be the Adobe Updater that either doesn't work at all or got interrupted while updating something critical. Anyway, Elaine's first aid tips are the first thing to look into. Beyond that, more info on the operating system is required. It would also be relevant, as from where the Video Copilot stuff was downloaded, on the chance it includes ripped versions of the DVDs. It may have brought some virus with the torrents .

    I have a BIG problem!!
After installing Leopard, the Finder doesn't start! I can't see the icons on the desk, when i click finder icon (on the dock) it doesn't work... when i search something with the spootlight and y click it, ussually finder is open to show the item... it doesn'y open!
Is it any way to reinstall finder? to solve my problem?
    thanks!

The only advice I have is to boot from the Leopard DVD and use the "Disk Utility" application there (in the "Utilities" menu) to fix permissions on the boot drive and check for drive errors. Beyond that I suspect you'd have to reinstall Leopard to get the finder working.
