DVD drive auto power off on T410

Bought new T410 a week ago. While trying to make recovery disc noticed my DVD drive is always powered off, even when machine is plugged in. To turn power on either you push side button on drive to open the case and it will turn on after almost a minute or can turn power on by right click on mouse. Is this a power saving default setting never heard of it before. Problem is if you are not able to put the disc in and able to play it within a minute it will turn itself off again and won't turn on again until I close all the programs and retry. While trying to change DVD during making of recovery disc it turned itself off if I was not able to pop the next DVD in and play it within a minute time. Very frustrating. Spend 7 DVD's  to complete recovery program as every time it turns off and I have to restart again. Checked power saving setting- Battery stretch is disabled so that`s not the issue. First of all Is this a normal feature with Lenovo. This is my first thinkpad. Why doesn`t it gives me a warning prior to turning itself off. Is there a option where I can increase the time line for it to stay active. Like the machine overall except this annoying feature. Called the technical support they suggested to replace the DVD drive and have shipped a new DVD drive.  Will try once I receive it but not sure if DVD drive is the problem. Any suggestions.

Funny timing that I read this now, since I JUST finished reading someone describing how to disable the auto-off feature on the optical disc!  Click here for the directions: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=6087314&postcount=7
Very frustrating. Did they not even try to create backup CDs once? The exact same problem is happening for me. This link is not valid for my model (T410 with Win 7 Professional 64-bit). It says to set "Automatic Optical Drive Power Off to Disabled" but I have no option named "Automatic Optical Drive Power Off" in the power settings.
I agree the system is great, but now I hope this is not a sign of other problems to come with Lenovo's tech support and software.
Anyone figure this out?

  • MacPro - External FW800 drives & auto power off

Hi, I have a new Mac Pro and am using two LaCie FW800 external drives with auto power off facility however when I power my Mac Pro down there is still power going to the FW800 ports as the drives down shut down. I am new to macs so is there any config setting to get round this issue?
    Cheers
    Paul

Don't believe there is but the power to the firewire port is a built in specification.
You could go to the Apple Developer site and look at their firewire SDK (there's many firewire applications, what they do I don't really know. Little too scarry for me.

  • MacBook Pro Retina 15" Auto Power Off

    Hi,
I have "auto power off" issue with my newly bought MacBook Pro Retina 15".
This problem is very annoying, my MacBook Pro just auto power off, where I check the battery is 100% fully charged.
The first encountered was about a month ago, the night I cannot turn on my MacBook Pro at all, the next day I sent it back to Apple Service Centre. The technician open up the bottom part, reset the battery by removing the battery cable, plug it back. Then turn on and perform some diagnosis test.
It was working fine for about 2 weeks, and now the "auto power off" happen everyday.
I have repartition my SSD drive to 2 partitions using BootCamp and installed with Windows 7 x64.
At first, this problem happen when I boot into Windows 7 with BootCamp, at first, I thought this problem is due to Windows Drivers, and I have no choice but purchase Parallels Desktop, to run my Windows with OSX 10.8.2. After the Parallels installed, I upgrade my second partition to run Windows 7 concurrently with OSX, it was running fine on the first day! And I thought it has solve my problems, unfortunately the next day, this problems occurs again.
I suspect this is due to hardward failure, something to do with the battery. Looks like the drivers is telling the Operating System, battery is 0%, and it just turn off itself.
Anyone experience this? Please share your experience or advice what should I do next?
    Regards,
    Dave

Hey Dave. Yes yes yes! Try reading through the thread below. Especially at the end. It has to do with an 'autopoweroff' setting that appears to be new and annoying.
When plugged in, goes from sleep to hibernate after 4 hours of sleep (or 14,400 seconds).
    Very easy to turn off.
This after many hours of research and discussion with no help from the folks at Apple.
Basically, to query the settings (enter this from Terminal):
    pmset -g | grep autopoweroff
You'll see the autopoweroff set to '1' and autopoweroffdelay set to 14400.
To actually turn that 'feature' off:
    sudo pmset -a autopoweroff 0
    (then enter your Mac password)
Now it will just sleep when plugged in and not go into hibernate.
You can also tell the Mac how long before it powers off via the autopoweroffdelay setting (if you like this silly feature), but I just turned the sucker off.
    Here is the thread:

Hopefully, that's the same problem you have, and it will quickly fix it.

  • About auto power off function

    Hello again guys,
long time no see ,since yesterday as far as I remember
Talking about Auto Power Off function , is there anyone that can tell us , it could be used on long terms - many days for example - as long as no one push the shutter or any button to wake the "beast" ?
This function completly shut down the camera or it's a kind of sleep function and some parts remain power supplied ?
    Thanks,
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It's not completly shutdown. However, it should not cost too much power if any at all. I have it on for a week. Unless you turn on the GPS. With GPS turned on, even if you turn off the camera, it is still active.

  • Does iPod not auto power-off when audio is paused?

    Hello,
I fully recharged the iPod. I played about an hour and a half of audio. i am called to dinner, so I hit the Pause button. 2 hours later, I come back to the iPod, and the battery guage shows almost empty. And the screen was still on. (Backlight was off). The hold switch was at the off position.
Doesn't the iPod auto-power off (screen goes off) a few minutes after pressing the pause button?I'm afraid that it's because my iPod's display was still on that the battery was depleted.
(Then again, I may be wrong in saying that the screen was still on when I got to the iPod 2 hours later, maybe my finger touched the scrollwheel upon holding the iPod. I'm not sure. If this was the case, I still don't know why the battery level shows empty.)
For you guys, how long does it take for your iPod's screen to auto-power-off?
    I have a theory.
The iPod won't auto-power-off (and therefore save battery life) if an audio is set to pause.
Is this theory correct or not?

My 30 Gig 5G iPod did the exact same thing the other day, which would've been shortly after I updated it to 1.2. I did a reset and after that it's been behaving normally, shutting down after being paused for awhile. So, try a reset and see how it goes.

  • Canon 60D does not resume after auto power off

My Canon 60D does not resume after auto power off. It shows the empty battery icon when I press the shutter button, even the battey is fully charged. If I remove the battery and insert back it will resume to work. Any one had the same experience and know how to resolve it?

The power switch is actually a "software" switch.  It's not like a light switch in that it doesn't actually provide or deprive the camera of power... only removing the battery will deprive the camera of power.  This is why it doesn't actually just go dark when you switch off power... instead you'll usually see it perform a sensor clean cycle and then power down.  The camera is technically in a kind of "sleep" mode monitoring the switch.  If a Canon camera ever seems to lock up and ignore all input, the battery should be temporarily removed to "reboot" the camera.   There is no "setting" in a camera that can configure it to ignore buttons.   Although... if the camera is in an automatic mode, some input is deliberately ignored to make it easier to use the camera.  Put the mode dial in a "creative zone" mode (P, Tv, Av, or M) and all buttons and menus should be accessible. You might try connecting the camera via USB cable to your computer and then attempt to control the camera via the Canon EOS Utility to see if that works.  If the camera responds fine to the computer control, then likely the camera's main board and circuits are working fine and it may just be a wiring problem -- as if some cable simply isn't getting a very solid connection.  If this is a wiring issue, you are probably better off sending it in for service.

  • 7D auto power off not working

My Canon EOS 7D is not turning itself off even though I have auto power off set for one minute. I think this problem began after I added a battery grip to the camera. Has anyone else had this problem?
    gc

Is it a Canon battery grip, or a third party? I ask because I've heard of some strange things occuring when using non-OEM battery grips.
If it's a Canon battery grip, I'd try "rebooting" the camera to see if that clears the problem. Do you know how to do that? If not, it's pretty easy. Just remove all the batteries (including the date/time battery), turn the camera on and press the shutter release button once. It won't fire, but this will drain all remaining power from the system and force the camera to reboot. Put the batteries back in and check to see if the date/time needs to be reset... if so, you got a good reboot. (You might have to reset some of your other settings, too.)
Hopefully that helps. Otherwise, I'm at a loss.

  • Z10 - Auto Power off like the 9800 had?

My old Torch9800 had an auto-power off function which was really useful at night (and helped save battery life overnight) - I can't see where to do this on the Z10 - has that function been 'developed out'?

As it's a community support forum there isn't any official way to make suggestions, however I suspect staff from BlackBerry do monitor these and will likely make note of the issues that generate a lot of replies.

  • Auto power off

I seem unable to modify the auto power off on my Officejet Pro8100 ePrinter. I've looked at the drivers, and it tells me that if it prints I don't need to do anything else.   The software says it's 'PrinterProxy Version 9 (447)',  and I'm using OSX 10.9.1 (Mavericks) USB, not wireless.
The instructions don't match what I have - I don't see an 'advanced settings' or 'maintenance' tab.

Under menu - settings- system - media client (for Quantum for other STB should be similar).
Set to none. Note: may need to scroll up to see none.

  • T520 DVD drive auto-off

    Hi,
When I got my T520 yesterday, the dvd drive is automatically powered off when becomes idle for a while.
After I re-installed Windows 7 x64 this morning, and the dvd drive cannot be automatically powered off.
I have the latest power manager (and power manager driver) installed. I did some google search, it seems there should be an option that I can turn this feature on in/off the power manager.
The strange thing is the "system settings" under "power plans" tab in the thinkpad power manager only has 4 options instead of 6.
    They are:
    system performance
    cpu deeper sleep
    optimize fan control to
    display brightness.
    Thanks a lot in advance!

Try ejecting the drive and reinserting it.

  • Issues installing DVD drive on Power Mac G3

I know that there is no place for G3's so I hope that it's alright asking about it here. I bought a DVD drive for my Power Mac G3, took out the old CD drive and then put the new one in. It also said that I needed a decoder card so I got that too and installed it. The problem is that after installing it, the DVD drive wont recognize any discs that I put in. Do I need to find the drivers for it and download those? Any help would be appreciated. Here is the link to the place where I got the drive

Hey Tom, I tried the Patchburn but I couldn't get it to work since the DVD drive that I am using wasn't on the list. Just to let you know, I am running OS X 10.2.8 with 640 MB Ram and a 350 MHz processor. Any ideas? I want to keep from going to an authorized technician or Apple Store, but if that is what I have to do then I will do it.

  • Dual Layer DVD drive in Power Mac G4?

    Hi,
I ordered a Power Mac G4 and I have an internal dual layer DVD drive with lightscribe built into it. I installed it in my PC awhile ago and it works fine but I want to know if it will work in a Power Mac G4 running OS X (Tiger/Leopard)? The model number is IDVD16DLS and it's manufactured by I/O Magic. It's a really good drive and I hope it works on Mac.

Optical drives sold by I/O Magic are usually manufactured by any of a number of electronics plants in China. The drive will undoubtedly function in your G4, but it may not respond to booting with the C key depressed or boot the computer after having been designated as the startup disk. I tried a Memorex (LG-manufactured) DVD±RW drive in a B&W G3 (Panther), and even with the PatchBurn profile, the only way to force it to boot from a bootable CD/DVD disk was to immediately close the tray, after it would spin up/down at startup and eject the disk. I removed that drive and installed a Pioneer DVR±RW drive like this one in black or beige. The Pioneer burner boots the computer without the extra persuasion. Tiger is more forgiving of a third-party drive, than the previous OS X versions. As for the LightScribe function, you'll probably need to look for third-party, Mac-compatible labeling software.
