Dvd drive disappears

I don't know why, but my DVD drive is there when I start the computer
but if I use Paralells and then quit my dvd drive is no longer recognized by
my computer. NOW It is disappearing after sleeping overnight !!!
Everytime I want to use a CD or DVD I have to restart. Is there another way
to make the computer recognize it>?
I am speaking on the internal one.
thanks.

OS 10.9

You are correct.. I can assume it will be gone after using Paralells, BUT, it also happens sometimes when I have not booted paralells. That's where it is strange.
I will send this question off to parallels as well to see if they know anything (probaby not)

  • Help! iTunes makes my DVD drive disappear

I installed iTunes version 7.6 and my DVD drive disappeared when I re-
booted my pc. At first I was able to restore to an earlier point and
my DVD drive re-appeared. When I tried to re-install iTunes, again the
DVD drive disappeared and I was unable to restore at all. The only way
I was able to restore my DVD drive was to restore my pc back to
factory settings. I have since tried an earlier version of iTunes (Version 7) with
exactly the same results as version 7.6. I have a 80GB iPod classic and I'm using XP. Can anyone help me install iTunes without losing hardware?

I have exactly the same problem. there are loads of others the same and some have advised to get a really old version of itunes and others have had to down load new drivers. I as of yet have been unable to resolve the issue yet I know others with Vista who can run new itunes with no problems. How frustrating!!! try looking through the archives on this support page for plenty of ideas on how to resolve it.

  • [G575] CD/DVD drive disappeared - no longer recognized in Windows

I have a Lenovo G575 that I have had for a couple of years now. Within the past week the CD/DVD drive has disappeared. If I go to device manager it is not listed. I went through the regedit and tried to delete all the upper/lower filters in the registry and no change. I can insert a disc and it will spin and I can here it running but it won't recognize that there is a disc in the drive. Is there any way I can just reload the driver? And if so where can I find just a driver? I have gone to a couple of sites but haven't been able to just find a CD/DVD driver.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Kechrmi,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that the CD/DVD driver is not detected in the device manager in your G575 Laptop, I suggest you to check of the CD/DVD is detected in BIOS. To access the BIOS menu press F2 when the Lenovo logo appears on the screen while the computer is starting up.
And to conform the issue, please perform OKR (One Key Recovery) using the OKR button located beside the power button.
NOTE: Please backup the data in the computer before performing OKR, as the data will be completely erased.
Do post us back if the issue still persists.
    Best Regards

  • Laptop DVD Drive Disappears in Vista

PROBLEM: As soon as you put a CD in the drive, the drive letter disappears.  The drive also disappears from the device manager
MODEL: HP laptop with Nvidia chipset (dv6748us)
Have Vista 32bit with SP2 and all other updates installed. Installed latest BIOS and chipset drivers from HP’s site. Laptop has an IDE drive interface. I tried a CDROM and it works, but tried multiple DVDRW and DVDROM drives and none work.USB DVD drive works. No filter stuff in the registry. Putting it to sleep does not bring it back. Scanning for hardware changes in the device manager does not find it again. Only comes back after reboot.
No option to change IDE/AHCI setting in the BIOS.
I did a factory restore and it still does the same thing.
I tried doing a clean install of Vista from a DVD, but as soon as Vista setup appears it says something like "A driver for the DVD/CD drive is missing" Please inset a disc with the correct drivers.  I tried downloading NVidia chipset/RAID/AHCI drivers from Nvidia's site and from HP and loading them, but to no avail.
Any other suggestions besides just using a USB drive from now on?

Same exact problem here but also note that neither the webcam nor the DVDROM is found in the Device Manager.  Also BOIs wont allow changes to info.  Recently updated to F.32 with the same problem.
THinking about trying some old BIOS to see if they make a difference.  Also noted that my Pavilion DV9925nr shows as DV9700 in the BIOS so is the 9925 a sub version of the 9700?

  • Dvd drive disappeared

The dvd drive on my HP Pavilion laptop disappeared!  How do I fix this.  I need to look at some dvd/cd now.

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Check if the drive is now visable and working.
If it still isn't, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it is now visable and working.

  • Installed iTunes 7.6 and my DVD Drive disappears

I noticed that since I installed the newest version of iTunes on windows vista my DVD player is no longer present. I realized this through a series of trial and error. Originally I noticed my DVD drive was not responding and could not figure out why. Had HP tech support fix the problem by removing a damaged registry key. But later when I went to iTunes it caused an error in iTunes. When I reinstalled iTunes the DVD drive went missing again. Is there a setting or fix that can correct both problems so that one doesnt keep affecting the other.

Join the club, No there isn't a fix. I have noticed on my Laptop running Vista that the DVD drive doesn't disappear until after you reboot after installing iTunes. So here is my work arounds / First I download all my music then uninstall iTunes - reboot - let the DVD drive return - then reinstall iTunes and burn my CD's before I reboot.
Also a 2nd fix I use is I have another computer on my home network running Windows XP that I network too, it doens't have any DVD issues running iTunes so I just link to my Laptop and burn from that computer.
But the only true fix is give up and use Napster...

  • Satellite L300D-11V - DVD drive disappeared

I have an L300D 11V. The DVD drive seems to have disappeared can someone suggest a way of getting replacement drive? They don't appear to be in the computer.
    thanks

    Hi
Is the drive listed in device manager or where doesnt appear the drive exactly?
If you go into BIOS, can you see the drive there?
Anyway, in your case I would try to remove the upper- and lowerfilters as you can read here:

  • My DVD drive disappears

Randomly and comes back randomly sometimes in a day sometimes days before the disc appears. Nothing will eject it not on startup not any program. It works fine other wise.
It will not appear in Disk Utility, iTunes, BurnFreeX or anything else. When it is like this it won't show up in system profile.

  • CD/DVD drive disappeared

I have a pavilion dv9627cl notebook, with Vista Home Premium. About 1 week ago, the cd/dvd drive totally disappeared, it doesn't appear in "computer", and also doesn't appear in the "device manager'. I read the forums, and hp articles and followed the recommendations to no avail.
I deleted the upper and lower filters
    Destructive restore
    Updated the Bios
    Updated all drivers
    Uninstalled/reinstalled
Uninstalled any software that was recently put on the system
The chat function isn't working for me today, and I am very frustrated.
If anyone knows a solution, or can point me to something I may have missed while reading I would greatly appreciate it.

I also have HP notebook 9500z its been working fine for the last two years then some how build camera doesnt detect, dvd drive that i Hardly used and only burn half way and crash at 50% doesnt appear where my computer is, network adaptor failed had to turn on wireless instead. I did installed up to service pack2 and did all hard format and stuff also tried to install driver for it but it keeps telling me that " camera cannot be detected." and under my device manager doesnt show any cd/dvd drive or camera.  I also tried to restoring many times from the recovery and it didnt fixed any of the problem.  Now i cant even go to recovery mode it keeps restarting and nothing happen. This is a very nice notebook very thin and slick from the outside I also recommended to my sister.  I think it was my mistaken from looking from the outside i spent over $1000 for this .  I would try some other brand in the future..

  • CD/DVD Drive disappears after installing itunes and quicktime HELP!

When I have installed itunes and quicktime my cd/dvd player drive disappears?? Has anyone had this problem??

I have had exactly the same problem with my Toshiba Laptop running Vista Home Premium for 5 months. I have continually tried updating and checking this site for a fix, but haven't had a clue. My Son-in-law works for Microsoft and uses iTunes extensively and he can't figure it out either. Toshiba has no answers.
I am beginning to believe that Gates has scored one-up on Jobs by planting something in Vista that crashes the drive when you try to use Apple software.

  • DVD Drive disappeared after installing Boot Camp on Windows 8

I am running Mountain Lion and I bootcamped Windows 8... this is a fresh install.
    1. I installed Windows 8 and the DVD is still working
    2. I installed Bootcamp software via DVD and was asked to reboot
    3. I reboot my iMac
    4. Now, my friggin DVD doesnt work anymore...
    5. I look at My Computer and it's gone.
    6. I look at the device manager and it's not there
    7. I showed hidden devices and the hl-dt-st dvdrw ga32 is there (disabled of course)
    8. i am writing to apple community after a night of searching for a solution in vain.
please help me. i really need my DVD drive
    thanks in advance

    thanks for the response
    1. Yeah I thought that's a mandatory thing because i need to be able to control the brightness with my keyboard, updated graphics card, boot camp control panel, etc
    2. No there's no enable for this because Windows 8 recognizes it as a "disconnected device" and asks me to reconnect the dvd drive to the machine (which it obviously already is).
    3. Ive tried those before, also even editing the registry but it didnt work.
It's weird because it never happened before on Snow Leopard » Lion bootcamp driver updates. Just in Mountain Lion

  • SATA DVD Drive disappeared after Install HELP!

I installed Snow Leopard using my second DVD drive in my Mac Pro. After install I tried ejecting the install DVD and it dissapeared but didn't eject the disk... that DVD drive is no longer recognized — I can't option+eject to get it to eject, when I do this it comes up with the Shutdown computer dialogue. "About this Mac" lists the drive as present under the Serial-ATA list, Toast doesn't recognize the disk. Any suggestions apart from paperclip?
    Thanks,
    John

Reboot and hold "option." In the boot menu, do you see the DVD? If so, try to eject it with the eject key.
If not, it sounds like something is wrong with the drive. The next thing would be to use the paperclip to get the disc out, and then troubleshoot the drive.

  • IPOD software makes DVD drive disappear on Windows Explorer

Since installing the IPOD nano software and downloading the latest version from the net, the DVD drive on PC is no longer visible on Windows explorer and doesn't respond when putting a CD in the drive.
When running up the itunes software, it comes up with the following warning:-
Warning - The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers fro importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as result of installing other CD burning software. Please re-install iTunes.
Has anyone else experienced this problem with missing CD drive and the above warning.
I am not sure whether to just blindly re-install iTunes as it is obviously causing problems on my pC.
    Any advice???
    Cheers in advance

    hi NotleyChris!
Warning - The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers fro importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as result of installing other CD burning software. Please re-install iTunes.

by any chance, is your PC a Packard Bell? if you go into your Device Manager (right-click "My Computer", select "Manage", click "Device Manager"), do you see a warning/alert message next to the DVD drive citing "code 41"?
