DVD drive issue

When i put a DVD in the drive it does not show on the computer and after few moments self ejects? This does not happen with audio CD, it functions properly. I am running OS X 10.6.8.

This means it is a DVD the drive does not support. Usually, this is because it is a blank disk, or was made at home, (not made by a company, E.G. a 'Harry potter' DVD is made by a company.' The only way to get around this problem is by buying an external dvd drive.

  • ITunes for 64bit Windows 7 Driver/CD/DVD/Drive Issues-

    Hi There
I am sure that there are many many users out there suffering the same frustration as me in regard to ITunes just not working properly with Windoews 7 (64Bit).
I have been trying to solve the mystery of "ITunes for Windows Registry Settings Warning When Opening Itunes.
I have tried all the recommended actions to correct this problem without any success and I do mean ALL.
Below is a screen shot of my registry, can anyone see anything wrong with it?
In the meantime (Last four months) I have stopped using ITunes and instead have used Digital 7, this will be my very last attempt to get ITunes working properly, failure will mean consigning ITunes to the same place as any other Software that does not do wshat it says on the can.
    I hope someone can help.

That's good that it is in device manager, but what about in Computer with the rest of the drivers?
Also, are the drives listed in Computer and device manager or just device manager?
I want to verify if the symptoms are present for a particular software issue before looking at other issues.  I really doubt it is a driver issue at this point.  If it was, then I suspect the issue would be present from day one.
It could be that the lens has dust buildup preventing it from working properly.  They do make CD cleaning kits that have a special CD designed to clean the laser as it passes over the lens.  If you happen to have one of these, or access to one, I recommend trying this step to make sure it isn't as simple as dust buildup interfering with the laser.
It could also be hardware failure, but I would like to try a few other steps before coming to that conclusion.
It may be worth reviewing this document as it covers a lot of the most common issues behind DVD drive issues. Feel free to skip any steps you have already tried.
    Let me know what happens.

The CD is ejected after a short while and never mounted. I have cleaned the optics of the CD drive and reset my PRAM.
Has anybody discovered a complete solution for this problem.

  • Any solution to DVD drive issue post Lion install yet?

Any solution to DVD drive issue post Lion install yet?

Since installing Lion no DVDs are being read by the superdrive, this is a problem that has been highlighted by quite a lot of people.
    CDs are being read fine.
After inserting the DVD there is some noise, sounds like it is trying to pickup the DVD then spits it back out.

  • DVD drive issue and permissions repair

Forgive me if I'm combining two issues in this posting.  If they are not related I can separate them out.
I don't know if my drive is going, but I have a DVD for a tv show that I wanted to watch on my Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard (latest patches).  For a while now I've had to keep reinserting the disc because it's not registering.  I put it in, and can hear mechanisms, then it spits it back out.
I watched one disc, ejected it then tried to play another and it just would not load.
I thought of checking disk permissions, thinking maybe the OS had some permissions problems that may be preventing it from reliably reading the disc.  The disk utility reported a number of permissions errors and owner errors, so I repaired the permissions and it reported that it was completed successfully.  I thought I'd run the verify permissions again, just to make sure the errors had really been repaired, and they're still there - some of them were gone, but there were others reported.  I ran the repair and verify a number of times now and nothing's changed.
    My questions:
    1.  Could the problem I'm seeing with my DVD drive be related to permissions of some of the system files?
    2.  Do I have anything to worry about with the disk permissions not appearing to be repaired?
    3.  Would I gain anything by booting to install media and running the verify and repair from there?
    Thanks much in advance!

Could the problem I'm seeing with my DVD drive be related to permissions of some of the system files?
If you've repaired permissions, and you still have the problem, then the answer is no.
Do I have anything to worry about with the disk permissions not appearing to be repaired?
Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore
Would I gain anything by booting to install media and running the verify and repair from there?
    No.

  • Re: Cd/DVD drive issue - error code 39 on Satellite P series

    Hi,
This is my first request for help.
My CD/DVD drive is no longer recognized and when I go to Device Manager and click on CD/DVD I am informed that the file cdrom.sys is there but cannot be loaded.
An error number 39 is reported.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated but please keep it simple to one line actions if possible.

Of course you can get some advices ;)
I think you would find it faster if you would search in the forum firstly but I will try to help you too.
    There error code 39 is very common issue and can be solved easy;
Check this MS knowledge base article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us
So firstly remove the CD/DVD drive from the device manager.
Then access the registry using the regedit command and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Reboot the notebook and wait till the CD/DVD drive was installed again.
    Thats it. ;)

  • Can't install CS3 Upgrade on NEW iMac 24". An Imac DVD drive issue?

My CS3 Design Premium Upgrade CD fails to install Photoshop on my BRAND NEW iMac yet it is able to install everything else on the CS3 disc. I just bought this iMac yesterday and CS2/CS3 Upgrade are the FIRST things I installed (besides updates) when I turned it on. I'm still using 10.4.10.
I searched through the Adobe forums and the internet as to how others with the same issue have dealt with the problem, but it seems the most common reason is that people had installed Photoshop CS3 beta previously as well as older Flash/Acrobat plug-ins conflicting with the installation process. Further, these causes seem to be effecting Windows users.
So a few hours ago I tried to COPY the upgrade CD contents to my hard disk, I get the message:
"The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in 'AdobePhotoshop 10en_US.dmg' could not be read or written. (Error code -36)."
This procedure of copying to the disk (and the resulting error message) is SPECIFICALLY addressed in the Adobe support pages TechNotes:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401429&sliceId=2
The page says that it may be a drive issue that is causing the problem. Of the 7 possible solutions given on the page, I've narrowed it down to only 1 option left (but I can't try it since I don't have another Mac!):
"*Solution 4*: Copy the software to the hard drive of a different computer.
*If the software copies successfully, the model of DVD drive on your original computer might not be able to read the DVD. Contact the DVD drive or computer manufacturer for any updates that might be available.*"
But what's funny (or annoying rather) is, I had a 20" Alum 2.4 iMac earlier this year (returned because of screen problem), and the CS3 upgrade installed without any problems on it!..??? And according to the iMac specs, the 20" and 24" models both have the same DVD drive make right?
Any ideas??? Are there other 24" iMac users who are experiencing similar problems? If not, then I guess I may have to return yet another iMac...which I'm reluctant to do since this screen is PERFECT! I'm scared to get another iMac with the dreaded screen gradient issue.

    I just solved the problem.
I tried copying the DVD files to the hard disk about 7-8 more times. The last try SUCCESSFULLY copied to the disk and I was able to install Photoshop CS3.
    Yay.

  • ITunes 7.1 causes DVD drive issue?

I upgraded to 7.1, after which my computer stopped recognizing my DVD drive. Updating drivers did nothing, so after much frustration I rolled back to a checkpoint established before I installed iTunes and the drive works again!!! Anyone else have a similar problem???

I upgraded to 7.1, after which my computer stopped recognizing my DVD drive.
usually, that sort of thing is associated with a device filter conflict in the registry. (although it usually doesn't hit Toshibas ... Packard Bells from the UK are most commonly hit by it.)

  • Weird broken DVD drive issue

+(crossposted from here, this forum seems to get much more traffic.)+
    Hi.
A couple of weeks ago, my Macbook's DVD drive stopped working. It won't load discs (physically) at all. This is not a software issue, it won't load under Windows or external boots either.
I figure the drive is dead, and I'm not that broken up about it… I almost never use it.
However, there are two interesting side points, which aren't very common judging by the lack of Google results:
    • Ever since I got my Macbook, the drive made a sort of 'spinning' sound every time the empty drive was powered up, i.e. on waking from sleep or starting/rebooting, the drive would make a quick 'back and forth' noise, which none of my friends' Macbooks made. This only happened when the drive was empty; it was silent when a disc was loaded. My drive is a *HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-S10N* according to System Profiler. I never did check whether my friends' drives were identical, although one friend did have the exact same model of Macbook. For all I know, this is entirely common with my drive.
    • When the drive died (exactly when it died), another thing started happening as well: When I lift the Macbook's screen to wake it, I cannot type my password without extra characters (which are, of course, obscured) being added… I always need a second attempt to unlock my computer. I can't help but think that these two issues are connected… they started simultaneously.
So… is there any chance my drive is not dead? Does the fact that it always made strange noises have anything to do with it? And how does the phantom typing figure in? Is there a way to see what characters the system if dumping into my password box?
Thanks for any help. Again, I'm not worried about it, more curious. I'm also well out of warranty.

I can't speak to the specifics of your situation, hudgie, but I can tell you that the SuperDrive on my first MacBook conked out and had to be replaced. Fortunately, it was still under AppleCare. The symptom my MacBook presented was that it would not mount CDs. It would accept them and then spit them right back out. Curiously, it played DVDs just fine. This was a progressive failure. At first, I could rotate the CD and have it accepted. Then I would have to fiddle with it longer in order to get it to accept the CD. And, finally, it would not accept a CD at all. I did try a cleaning disc on the drive, without success. If you haven't tried a cleaning disc, I would suggest trying that, especially since you are out of warranty anyway.
    Good luck!

  • CD/DVD drive issue on Satellite L notebook - error code Code 39

    Hi,
Could anyone tell me if there is an updated driver for the TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L632H ATA Device? The device is not available as a selectable drive and in device manager it reports the following error:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
I have removed the device and the driver, however on scanning for hardware; vista re-installs the default driver and the same error returns.
Because of this error, I am unable to update the firmware for the drive and the firmware update is unable to see the drive.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi buddy
What to saythis issue is known and caused by wrong Windows registry entries.
Microsoft has released and published some knowledge articles.
    Check this:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270008/en-us
First of all I recommend removing the CD/DVD drive from the device list in device manager. Then remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    Finally reboot the notebook.
    Thats all.
PS: you would find this solution also without my help. You should use the forum search function! Its helpful!

  • Satellite A100-785 PSAANE - CD/DVD drive issue

    Hello Friends,
I own a Toshiba Satellite A100-785 PSAANE and its configurations are as follows:
    1.87 Ghz C2D, 1 Gb Ram (512 + 512), Windows Vista Basic, CD/DVD read/write...
Issue: Its been quite long, i m facing a certain problem with my Optical Drive. When ever I insert an CD which is originally produced by any company it works fine. The moment I insert any CD which is personally burned with some data from any normal CD/ DVD writer or the CDs which were previously created by the same laptop mentioned above, its been read as a blank disc. The data of the disk is not shown.
For eg: Lets say if I insert any software cd like my webcam's cd or my printer's cd they can be read normally and work fine. But the moment I enter any cd which is been burned by me which contains my personal files, that is been read as a blank disc.
This issue does not exists with any of the DVDs. Doesn't matter which every dvd I insert either being a normal software dvd or being the one which is burned as a personal data dvd, everything works fine and all the data in dvd can be read.
I have tried reinstalling the driver, I have tried reformatting my laptop using the Toshiba Recovery CD provided with the laptop, but the issue still exists.
In between few months ago, I tried doing some tweak, like first i insert the cd in the drive and then disable the cd drive and then enabling it again would actually read the cd. But after few tries, this also stopped working.
Now I really have no idea what should I do to make my CDs work normally.
I hope this post can help me out.
    Your help will be appreciated
    Thanks for your precious time

For me it sounds like a DVD, where the data has been burned, were not fully compatible.
I meet such issue on different computers. A friend of mine has had the similar problem with an non Toshiba notebook. Its matter of the disks which are used for burning.
I tested several brands and now Im using TDK and Verbatim because my CD/DVD drive supports these kind of disk properly.
Of course it could be an hardware issue too but in such case you will need to replace the CD/DVD drive

  • Pavilion g6 DVD drive issues

    Repeated problem happening now,
DVD drive won't play DVDs. It plays CDs, but doesn't recognise DVDs until I double click on the DVD drive (previously recognised as empty), it then recognises the disk but won't play it in any programme (PowerDVD, VLC, GOM, etc).

Might be a dirty DVD laser. You can try something like this:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl1v3NEGiTk
It is not a software issue or CDs would not work either. It might be a bad drive, however. The CD and DVD systems use a different laser and one can go bad and not the other.
Post back if you need any more help.

  • MacBook Pro DVD drive issues

Hi there, recently I got a something strange problem with the DVD drive in my MacBook Pro 15" (2,2Ghz Intel core Duo, 10.5.8). Beginning with the error 0x80020042 first I tried cleaning the laser lens which worked for a few times, I also had errors like "... illegal access..", or the drive just could not read from disks, or the system does not recognize a blank disk was inserted. Using Toast to burn files to CDs it turns red indicating that there is not enough space on the disk even if the files are small, only a few kilobytes or megabytes large. Using the Mac OS I get the same message.
I'd appreciate your help and suggestions.
    Thanks.

maybe its hardware issue if you contact apple store or apple support they could help you
