Dvd drive not playing discs?
I have a first gen macbook pro with a matshita dvd-r.
i never plays any burned dvd's and it has issues with regular dvd's
has anyone else had any problems? the dvd player on my sony PS2 works better than this one.
I just received my MBP 2.33 Core 2 and I'm having issues playing dvds I created on my G5. The first one I tried played back for a little bit then DVD player locked up. Now I can't get any recorded dvds to play. Meet the parents even had problems at first, but on the second attempt it played good. I was doing something else in the bacground but this thing should be able to handel multi tasking! This is the new 6x DL drive not sure if you have the 4x or 6x or not but I'm guessing my problem is this faster drive. Tonight I plan on messing with it somemore to see if I can get it to work. It has me a little concerned right now.
Wonder if this is just an isolated problem for us? Can anyone else comment on this issue? Thanks guys for any comments. They are appreciated. On the upside, I love my MBP core 2!

MacBook Pro UniBody with MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868
I have to eject a CD or DVD 10 or 20 times. It makes the eject noise then the disc doesn't come out and it gets remounted again. After 10 or 20 goes suddenly one time it comes all the way out.
Any clues - is this a hardware fault?
cheers

Another help source (if you haven't already done so).
Go to your OS Help Menu. In the search field type dvd
Click on all the troubleshooting topics & Support Articles that pertain to your issue.
You can also do the same in Disk Utility. Open same up.
At the bottom left of the window, click on the purple button w/the "?" in the middle.
This will bring up the Help Menu.

Hi, I have a Pioneer DVD-R DVR-117D superdrive that came with my computer from apple. I have a project that I am trying to put onto a DVD-R dual layer disc but my drive just ejects the disc after attempting to read it for a little while. Any suggestions are appreciated
The DVR-117D is in reality a DVR-108 with some functions either slowed down or disabled by Apple. One of the disabled functions was double layer burning.
If you wish to restore this ability, you'll need to flash the drive to a DVR-108 with the firmware available from Pioneer here.
You can get instructions for doing this at XLR8yourmac.com, but some of the links on that page are outdated. The flash utility mentioned is now at version 2.2, and the firmware you should be using is the one I linked to above.
Now, you've stated that you bought DVD-R DL, which this drive won't burn. It will burn the DVD+R DL, though. In any event, Apple specifically recommends that DVD-R DL not be used. -
Help! Can't get DVD drive to play discs.
I called Apple care. They refered me to my local Genius bar (Apple store); where they reset something but wouldn't tell me what, and it played for awhile. Now the DVD player just ejects the disc after about 15 seconds. I know I'm a dummie, but I hate to waste another day making appointments with the only Apple store in Houston. Help please.

My DVD player won't play rental dvd's etc .. I get a message saying "Supported Disk Not Available"
I have successfully played on 2 dvd's on this machine (it's only 2 weeks old) and each of those times i got a message asking my permission to change the region settings plus a warning that i would only be able to change the settings 5 times ... this third attempt at watching a movie (a big reason i bought the 2nd machine - to watch dvd's in my bedroom) it now gives me the 'not supported' message
HELP!!!!!After some research I tried a suggestion from another forum to repair disk permissions - so far so good (at least the dvd i was trying to watch played no problem)
I did see numerous posts in my travels where people had experienced exactly the samr thing that I had - is there a bug Apple??? -

DVD does not play back on all computers and DVD players after burning
I have built and formatted a dvd using dsp but it will not playback on laptops even though it works fine on dvd players macs, and pcs. On some laptops there is no sound others just crash. Is this a problem with the laptops or how i have formatted the dvd?
suggestion 1
If you are trying to playback on a PC laptop running windows:
Do not use Windows Media Player to play back the DVD, it wont work, it is not a DVD player.
Use the software supplied with the DVD drive such as Win DVD or Power DVD.
suggestion 2
The disc format is incompatible with the DVD drive:
If the disc you created is a DVD-R and you play on a DVD+R drive, or a DVD+R disc played in a DVD-R drive then the disc will not play.
suggestion 3
the drive is a CD drive not a DVD drive -
IMac 24" .a valid DVD drive not found - 70012
I try to insert a DVD to play on my imc , but the disc eject out after the drive search for no disc . I click on DVD player, message as a valid DVD drive not found-70012
Sounds like a problem with the Optical Drive, I find them far too short lived in OSX anyway!???
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware>Disk Burning & report what it says, like ...

I'm running Mavericks 10.9.3, updated iTunes earlier today, but although I can play audio CDs, DVDs will not play, any suggestions?
Hello there, tomazdes.
The following Knowledge Base article written for the USB SuperDrive, offers some practical steps to try when issues present themselves with particular content playback (feel free to skip Step 3 when working with an iMac or MacBook with built-in drives):
Apple Computers: Troubleshooting the slot-loading SuperDrive
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2801
Particularly:
Accepts discs but they don't mount or are automatically ejected
Make sure the drive is not placed upside down. The aluminum enclosure should be facing up as shown in section 1.
Check the disc's surface for scratches and dirt, since these things can prevent the disc from appearing on the desktop.
Connect the MacBook Air SuperDrive directly to the computer's USB port instead a USB hub.
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
Ensure your drive can read the specific type of disc being used. The System Profiler or System Information may provide additional information regarding what media your computer supports.
OS X Snow Leopard v10.6 or earlier: Open Apple System Profiler by choosing "About this Mac" from the Apple () menu. Then, click More Info.
OS X Lion v10.7 and later: Click the Apple () menu and then hold down the Option key. Choose System Information from the menu.
If the disc continues to not be recognized, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,
Pedro. -
EMac External LACIE DVD Drive not reading.
eMac External LACIE DVD Drive not reading.
eMac 700 MHz running OS X 4.4
Came without DVD or modem internal
Has 256mb memory
Bought a used Lacie 1394 Firewire DVR External.
Was able to burn DVD’s and CD’s with Toast 6 Light.
Cannot find the “DVD Player” on the hard drive.
It will read data DVD.
eMac will not read any movies burnt or bought.
I was told I probably need more memory?
Thought running IDVD would fix the problem.
No Soap.
This machine was giving external modem problems before Tiger was installed.
Before we spend more money or just get ride of the eMac.
What is the DVD problem?
This same Lacie burner reads and writes DVD and CD fine with our iMac 450 DV 320mb memory. Running 9.2 and X.3OS X 10.3.x / 10.4.x natively support data burning to external DVD drives but video payback requires software such as iDVD which isn't installed by default on models without an internal DVD drive (the installer sees no internal drive and thinks it's unnecessary). Try downloading VLC Player and see if that will let you play movies.

I have a Powerbook G4 12"--has always worked without problem.
However, this am tried to play DVD--got the error message "valid DVD drive not found". No driver seen in system profiler.
There is no CD or DVD stuck.
Have gone through the workarounds suggested in discussions--open firmware ejects etc...
Has anyone found a solution other than paying $500 to replace the drive?
Many thanksFirst see if the issue is user or system related. Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Accounts and add an administrator account, and log into it after logging out from the Apple menu.
If that doesn't work, try locating a preference in the System/Library or Hard Drive -> Library for com.apple.dvdplayer and removing it. Same for cache files.
If it still doesn't work, try VideoLan Client:

Windows 7 install stops at "CD/DVD driver not found"
When trying to install Windows 7 with boot camp, all goes well until it stops and gives me the "CD/DVD driver not found". I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro with a 500 GB SSD drive. I have burned a DVD at 1X from a iso file.
ThanksCan you verify the MD5/SHA1 of the DVD with the ISO using OS X 'openssl md5' or the M$ FCIV tool? The source of your ISO should be able to provide MD5/SHA1.
OS X Example
openssl md5 ~/Desktop/GRMCPRXVOL_EN_DVD.cdr
MD5(/Users/MyName/Desktop/GRMCPRXVOL_EN_DVD.cdr)= 977f4f0f1400be91855789213e07b031
Windows FCIV example
D:\>C:\"Program Files (x86)"\FCIV\fciv
// File Checksum Integrity Verifier version 2.05.
Usage: fciv.exe [Commands] <Options>
Commands: ( Default -add )
-add <file | dir> : Compute hash and send to output (default screen).
dir options:
-r : recursive.
-type : ex: -type *.exe.
-exc file: list of directories that should not be computed.
-wp : Without full path name. ( Default store full path)
-bp : specify base path to remove from full path name
-list : List entries in the database.
-v : Verify hashes.
: Option: -bp basepath.
-? -h -help : Extended Help.
Options:
-md5 | -sha1 | -both : Specify hashtype, default md5.
-xml db : Specify database format and name.
To display the MD5 hash of a file, type fciv.exe filename
D:\>C:\"Program Files (x86)"\FCIV\fciv -add Windows8.1-64bit.cdr

Hi Virendrasingh,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Notebook and CD/DVD not working correctly. I would perform a hardware test. Where did the CD come from? Were you having issues with the CD ROM before? I would be happy to assist if needed as there are many models of HP Notebook, I would need the model number. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Please respond with which Operating System you are running:
Which Windows Operating System am I running?
Please let me know.
Thanks.

tcrite,
Sounds like a bad drive...I would get a replacement. According to Accelerate Your Mac database, it should work without issue.
Just enter the model number of the drive and select your Powerbook G3 2000, and you will see four reports on this model.
