DVD drive not showing...

Hi, first off, thanks for reading this, I hope you'll be able to help me out. My DVD drive doesn't show up on my HP Pavillion dv2000 anymore. It doesn't even show up in the hardware manager.
I tried the upper filters/lower filters fix, but I don't see any registry entries with those names in the registry folder that is  specified across many threads/FAQs. There is however, one folder called: "properties", but I'm denied access to it, even though I'm administrator. I also tried an autofix program linked in another thread (the file was called: XP_CD-DVD-Fix.zip) just to be sure.
I've tried looking for driver updates on the HP site, but all they do is tell me to install HP support assistant for windows 7. I have windows Vista, so that's a problem. Any way I can download the driver without support assistant?

Hi,
The driver for any CD/DVD Drive is provided by windows.  Try the following.
From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.  Restart the PC.
Next, from the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Click to open the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.  Right click on the first channel and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When uninstalled repeat the process for each channel.  Also if an ATA controller is listed, right click and uninstall this, again not deleting drivers if asked.  When complete, see if the CD/DVD Drive now shows up in Device Manager.

  • HELP! DVD Drive not showing on finder or desktop

Hi, I am not a Mc OS expert. I have a Mac Pro 1,1 with MAC OSX 10.7.5, and my original DVD drive died. I happened to have an HP Lightscribe DVD640, and I installed it, but, its icon does not show up!
It is recognized by the system and Disk Utility, and if I insert a CD or DVD it reads it correctly, but when I remove it, there's no icon of the actual drive anywhere, so, I won't be able to open the drive to insert a new disc...
I set the Finder preferences to show CDs and DVDs, but nothing shows...
    Any suggestion?

but... this is a Mac Pro, it does not have a slot-in, how do I even open the drive? I was able to see the DVD drive icon before, and select "OPEN" and the tray would open, now, I don't se anything.

  • External DVD drive not showing in mountain lion

    Hi
I am on late 2008 macbook running mountain lion 10.8 and i have a problem with my internal dvd player, it is not working. I just needed to read a dvd in my macbook so i have a regular disktop pc dvd player.
I connected the dvd player to the power supply and connected it to my macbook through usb ( The same way i connect my old hard drives when i used to use pc ) but it seems that mountain lion is not reading it.
    Any help?

I've used an external burner for years and have noticed the following:
    a. it does not show anywhere except my Roxio Toast (burn) software, and
    b. unless I have a disc inserted, I cannot control it from within Toast either.
So, my method: plug in burner, insert disk, launch Toast, and burn whatever it is I need to burn. Once done, use Toast to eject disk.

  • [P67-A] DVD Drive not showing up?

    Hi all,
I have a P67A i5 board and I'm baffled as to why the DVD drive isn't detected. It has worked in the past but doesn't now.
I have 2 SATA HDD's connected to port 1 & 2 (the 6Gb/s ports) and I have a SATA DVD drive connected to port 8 but it doesn't show in the BIOS at all? I even purchased a new DVD drive to try and rule out the old one had failed but it still doesn't work. I am running in IDE mode but then that has always been the case.
Does anyone know what could be the problem??

Did your test your drive(s) on a different SATA-Port?
Does it show up in Windows?
Does it show up in the UEFI/BIOS Boot menu (press F11 after start-up to bring up the boot menu)?
Have you tried a different SATA cable?

Hi Albos, This is a known problem. These superdrives die after a while. See the various threads on this site and the internet. I have the same problem with my Imac 20" 2.16 ghz. Just wants to burn and read cd's. Its has to do with the laser. For DVD an CD are two different laser and the one for DVD's has probably died in yours (as it did in mine). I bought an external LG burner and problem solved. (And a lot cheaper than replacing the superdrive)
    Hope this helps you.

    Hi Virendrasingh,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Notebook and CD/DVD not working correctly.  I would perform a hardware test.  Where did the CD come from? Were you having issues with the CD ROM before?  I would be happy to assist if needed as there are many models of HP Notebook,  I would need the model number. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Please respond with which Operating System you are running:

  • DVD drive not working with win 8.1

Hi. I have HP pavilion 15-e020TU notebook. My DVD drive worked with windows 7 and windows 8. After upgrading to windows 8.1 , the DVD drive is not working. Windows device manager can find the DVD drive but shows a yellow error mark. I selected "Update driver software" and then "Search automatically for updated driver software" . Then the name changed from "Mitsumi CD drive" to "hp DVD A DU8A5SH". And still not working. I installed the firmware update from http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv481en&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jum... But a command prompt shows "Error: no mitsumi drives found." What can I do now ?

  • Windows 7 install stops at "CD/DVD driver not found"

When trying to install Windows 7 with boot camp, all goes well until it stops and gives me the "CD/DVD driver not found". I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro with a 500 GB SSD drive. I have burned a DVD at 1X from a iso file.
    Thanks

Can you verify the MD5/SHA1 of the DVD with the ISO using OS X 'openssl md5' or the M$ FCIV tool? The source of your ISO should be able to provide MD5/SHA1.
    OS X Example
    openssl md5 ~/Desktop/GRMCPRXVOL_EN_DVD.cdr
    MD5(/Users/MyName/Desktop/GRMCPRXVOL_EN_DVD.cdr)= 977f4f0f1400be91855789213e07b031
    Windows FCIV example
    D:\>C:\"Program Files (x86)"\FCIV\fciv
// File Checksum Integrity Verifier version 2.05.
    Usage:  fciv.exe [Commands] <Options>
    Commands: ( Default -add )
-add    <file | dir> : Compute hash and send to output (default screen).
                    dir options:
                    -r       : recursive.
                    -type    : ex: -type *.exe.
-exc file: list of directories that should not be computed.
-wp      : Without full path name. ( Default store full path)
-bp      : specify base path to remove from full path name
-list            : List entries in the database.
            -v               : Verify hashes.
                             : Option: -bp basepath.
            -? -h -help      : Extended Help.
    Options:
            -md5 | -sha1 | -both    : Specify hashtype, default md5.
-xml db                 : Specify database format and name.
To display the MD5 hash of a file, type fciv.exe filename
    D:\>C:\"Program Files (x86)"\FCIV\fciv -add Windows8.1-64bit.cdr

    Hi,
It could be that the drive has a Hardware issue, but try the following.
Next, open Device Manager, right click the DVD drive and select Uninstall.  When this has completed, restart the notebook and let Windows rediscover the device and check.

  • My external hard drive not showing up

    Hello,
My external hard drive is not showing up on my desktop. I went to finder & preferences>general and made sure I checked "show these items" and checked hard drives. I even unchecked it because I have 2 other external hard drives. When I checked the hard drive box the other 2 hard drives appeared but the third hard drive did not. The hard drive not showing up on my desk top does show up when I double click my system hard drive & can be opened from there, but I want to see it on my desk top. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It makes no changes to your data.

  • HT5639 after The Boot Camp for Windows 8? DVD Drive Not Recognized or Reading CD/DVD

after i made The Boot Camp Setup  for running Microsoft Windows 8? DVD Drive Not Recognized or Reading CD/DVD

    thanks for the response
    1. Yeah I thought that's a mandatory thing because i need to be able to control the brightness with my keyboard, updated graphics card, boot camp control panel, etc
    2. No there's no enable for this because Windows 8 recognizes it as a "disconnected device" and asks me to reconnect the dvd drive to the machine (which it obviously already is).
    3. Ive tried those before, also even editing the registry but it didnt work.
It's weird because it never happened before on Snow Leopard » Lion bootcamp driver updates. Just in Mountain Lion

  • Drive Not Showing In Startup Disk

I have re setup my MacBook Pro, all seems well apart from this little problem. My Mac OS X Partition or Windows Partition shows in startup Disk.
Both Operating Systems do startup fine though.

    Windows 7

Its setup in this way so i can use TrueCypt for the Windows side.

if you try to verify the disk, dose it report any errors? (open disk utility, click on the Macintosh HD, click on the repair tab, click verify disk.)
If you option boot, dose the computer list both Boot Volumes?
Have you tried blessing the mac hard drive?
ie: "sudo bless -folder /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/System/Library/CoreServices -bootinfo"
(note the above bless command blesses the Hard Drive with the name "Macintosh HD", if you mac volume has a different name, change to match your hard drive's name.)
