DVD drive not working on Satellite Pro U400-142

My DVD drive is not working. I insert a disk, can hear the drive working for some time but then nothing happens. I checked 'Device Manager' - under DVD/CD-ROM drives it shows: MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ862AS, but there is a black exclamation mark on a yellow circle next to it. I opened the 'Properties' dialogue box and under device status it says:
'Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)
I'd like to try to try to solve the problem by re-installing the driver. I have checked the Toshiba website for the driver, but cannot find it.
I'd be most grateful if someone could give me any ideas on how to sove this problem.
Thanks
P

What you can do is follow:
Remove optical disc drive from device manager and restart your notebook.
The drive should be recognized and installed properly. If the same happen again try please > http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ8101LA0000R01.htm

i have  hp pavilion dv4 series.my dvd drive not worked properly.for that purpose only i went 7 times in your service centre but they won't take action  till now .why u people do like this .i want explation and just change my  dvd drive that's all.

    tcrite,
Sounds like a bad drive...I would get a replacement. According to Accelerate Your Mac database, it should work without issue.
Just enter the model number of the drive and select your Powerbook G3 2000, and you will see four reports on this model.

  • External DVD drive not working with Lombard G3 333

I have an external DVD drive that worked when I had 10.4, but had to reformat HD and now only have 10.3.9, and now the DVD drive does not work with DVDs, it will work with CDs and CDR media, but not with DVD media. My Lombard did not come with DVD originally and I am using a PC Card (Macintosh PowerBook DVD-Video PC Card For PowerBook G3 Series) and it worked before with 10.4, but not with 10.3, any ideas? Also have tried with 9.x, no go either. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, would it be difficult to add a DVD logic board to my Lombard?
    Joey

    xamdu,
I am reading and replying to this post after first replying to your other post, so a few of my previous comments are redundant.
Regarding the FireWire(?) USB 2.0(?) DVD drive: It is possible Tiger supported your DVD drive but Panther does not. I would give PatchBurn for Panther a try:
    http://patchburn.de/download.html
If the above is unsuccessful, take a look at this workaround:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20040330171655882
You can swap logic boards but it does require a lot of disassembly.
Since no version of OSX supports Apple DVD Player, I am assuming you have a third-party player like VLC installed to watch movies. If this is the case, the DVD Decoder PC card is not necessary. If booted to 9.x, you of course will need the decoder PC card but I did not know 9.x's Apple DVD Player supported external drives.

  • Satellite Pro A210 DVD Drive not working - error code 39

    Hi All
My Satellite Pro A210 dvd drive is not loading.
When I looked into it it showed an error code 39.
I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but it's still not working.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
From my knowledge the error message 39 appears if the CD/DVD drive is not visible in the My Computer.
    You can try this workaround:
Go to device manager and delete the CD/DVD drive from the device list.
Then go to registry (regedit) and remove the upper and lower filters from the key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Then reboot the unit and test it again
    I think this should help!

  • Satellite Pro A30: CD/DVD drive not working - How to restore OS?

I want to run the recovery discs to restore my laptop to original condition but the cd/dvd rom is not working.
Does any one have an idea how I can do this either by connecting my laptop to another pc or is there a programme on the web I can access to do this for me.
Bacically even after running CCleaner and other programmes the laptop is still running slow and struggling.

    Hi mate
Im not quite sure if the old Sat Pro A30 is able to boot from USB drive. In such case you could try to install the OS from USB flash stick.

  • DVD Drive not working Satellite Pro A100 - error Code 37

    Hi
    Anyone help on this?
I have an A-100 and the DVD drive has stopped working in XP. I've checked device manager and XP see's the drive but returns this error 'Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)'
I've also noticed that ASAPI.sys is not running in task manager.
I'm guessing this has got something to do with the problem.
I've tried reinstalling device drivers but this has made no difference. Any suggestions?

    Hi
The error code 37 means the driver returned failure from its DriverEntry routine.
You could try to remove the driver from the device manager and after new reboot the OS should recognize the device drive and initialize the driver again.
If this does not help try this procedure:
Run REGEDIT and open up the following folders:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    -> SYSTEM
    -> CurrentControlSet
    -> Control
    ->Class
    {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
After clicking on {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} you should see two settings on the right-hand side:
    "Upperfilters"
    "Lowerfilters"
Click on each of them, press DELETE and click YES.
Then reboot the notebook and check if it was useful.

  • DVD/CD Drive not working on Satellite L55

I have a Satellite L55 laptop with DVD/CD drive that I've used successfully to burn CDs in the past. Yesterday, I tried to view a DVD given to me by a friend and all it did was click and nothing happened. No error message other than telling me there was no DVD in the drive.
This morning, I put in a CD and same thing happened. You can hear the drive whirr a bit but then there are little repeated clicking noises and nothing. iTunes told me to put in a blank CD (the CD shows as blank in other drives), and if I look at Windows Explorer, it tells me to put in a DVD.
I've taken a quick look at the driver and it tells me that everything is working properly. If I tell Windows (8.1) to update the driver, it tells me it's the latest driver.
As far as I know, nothing has happened physically to the drive, beyond being opened accidentally on occasion when moving the laptop since the open button just happens to be in the right position for that to happen when you lift up the laptop.
Any ideas as to what I can try to do to see if the drive is truly dead before attempting to replace it?
    Thanks,
    Marie

  • Error code 39 - CD/DVD drive not working properly

Satellite C55D-5170 came with Win 8 and the first automatic software update upgraded it to Win 8.1.
I believe this is the first time I have tried to access the DVD drive but I had successfully used the flash drive.  The DVD drive is not recognized.  The Device Manager, under DVD/CD-ROM drives shows the yellow triangle in front of TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208FB.  Clicking on that shows the following:
Location:  Bus Number 2,  Target Id 0,  LUN 0
    Device status
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.  The driver may be corrupted or missing.  (Code 39)
    {Unable to Load Device Driver}
%hs device driver could not be loaded
    Error Status was 0x%s
I looked through these forums and found that this Code 39 is frightfully common and does not seem to have an answer.  I went to Microsoft's site and using their fix it, but nothing changed.  I tried to update the driver but got the message saying I already had the current driver.  I uninstalled the driver and rebooted the laptop and the driver was reinstalled but nothing changed, still not recognizing the DVD drive.
I need a solution so that I can install a WiFi router.  It would be nice to play some CDs as well.  Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide a solution.

  • External DVD Drive not working with osx 10.8.5

Hi, I'm having issues with my MacBook Pro 15" 9,1 working with an external DVD drive.  I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have been troubleshooting this issue for a few weeks.  The optical drive itself is the original drive that came with the computer, but I have put it in an external enclosure to free up space inside the body of the MacBook Pro.  The drive seems to function fine with CDs (playing and ripping - haven't tried burning yet) but is extremely inconsistent/barely functional with DVD playback.  Only one DVD in my collection properly works - others bring up error messages in multiple programs (VLC, Wondershare, the native DVD application, etc.) and another continuously loops back to the main menu each time "Play Feature" is selected.  These are a variety of DVDs that range from obscure to commercial and old to new (the oldest and most obscure is the only one that works).  After deciding that it is not the programs, I replaced the enclosure.  I still had the same exact issues.  I reset PRAM - no solution there.  I created a new user on my computer, installed the same media players and had the same luck.  I then used the same external drive on my old MacBook Pro 15" (5,4 running OSX 10.6.8) to see if it would work there.  It worked perfectly (with the native DVD application).  What is going on here and how can I get my new computer to recognize the external DVDs reliably and consistently?

older superdrives were Hitachi mfg, new ones are Panasonic.  Since yours is new and panasonic, indications are it wont work thru the enclosure on your NEW macbook, rather as you state on your older Mac.
until you said it worked fine on the old machine, the logical conclusion is a dirty lens on the laser since it reads CDs fine but most DVD not, since the track is much smaller.
Considering a new superdrive is only $48 on ebay ,or $78 for a new superdrive, your frustration might be too much, and just grab a new superdrive.
Your detailed information indicates a firmware incompatibility of the panasonic superdrive thru an enclosure
This is the new superdrive, made by panasonic as you have in your enclosure:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/221280580133?lpid=82
of course thats a lot of trouble buying that AND an enclosure, easier still is just getting a Mac superdrive inside its working enclosure designed for use as such:

  • CD/DVD player not working (Toshiba Satellite L875d-S7232)

I purchased a  (Toshiba Satellite L875d-S7232) on August 17, 2012 from a major retailer. Recently, the CD/DVD player will not play, or even recognize, commercially produced DVD movies. As a consequence, I cannot rent or buy movie DVDs, nor will any of the DVDs in my library work now. The DVD player in this Satellite is TSST SN-208AB.
What happens is that when you put a movie DVD in the machine, the light goes on 4 times, but the DVD player never spins up and starts playing. In the explorer, the CD/DVD icon is there, but when you try to "open" the DVD player it never spins up and a green bar goes, very slowly, across the top of the window.
The player has no trouble with audio CDs.
I have spent about 10 hours on this problem now. What I have tried followed all of the standard "fixes" for this specific problem on this specific machine and the correct OS (Windows 7 Home Premium). None of the standard fixes fixed anything.
    In Brief :
    1. I uninstalled all programs which use the DVD player, except for the standard suite that came with the computer at time of purchase. Also, uninstalled all CODEC packages that were not part of the original suite.
    2. Uninstalled the CD/DVD device and driver, as instructed, and the device and driver were automatically reinstalled. Did a full power cycle (including removal of the battery). I've done this solution about 4 times.
    3. Looked in the registry for a possible filter driver issue. There was none.
    4. Used Microsoft "Fix It" program, which discovered "a problem" but had no description of the problem or a reference to a fix.
    5. Ran the device driver update check, toshiba service station check, microsoft update check. All files are up to date and the correct file.
    6. Ran system files check, HDD corruption check. No problems reported.
Nothing done so far has moderated or altered the behavior in any way. Moreover, I have noted dozens and dozens of people on the internet in different forums with the same problem. What this means is that Toshiba is losing market share bigtime on this one.
    Any fix would be appreciated.

Hi Sense no one has replied, I will offer my 2 cents. DVD drives wear out and they also get dirty. You could try to clean it with compressed air. DVD drives are fairly cheap and very easy to replace.

  • A 205 CD/DVD drive not working, and slow start-up

My A 205 Satellite laptop no longer recognises its CD/DVD drive.  Drive does not work, though it can be heard spinning when a disc is in it, and it does not show in My Computer.  I have been into the registry and removed the upper and lower filters, but the drive is still not reconised.  Can anyone help?  The same laptop also takes much longer to start-up than it used to - the start-up progress bar seems to stick at about 75% for a couple of minutes before proceeding and letting themachine start.  Machine is two years old and is running Windows Vista.  Suggestions appreciated.

    > So far, all I can think is that the drive has had it and needs replacing, but it's not even a year old!
There is no time limit where you can say: ok now it is acceptable if the drive is defective.
If you are sure that ODD is defective contact nearest Toshiba service provider as soon as possible and ask for help.

  • Chicony Webcam Not Working on Satellite Pro A350d-202

    System Specification:
    Satellite Pro a350d-202
    Windows 7 64bit
I am not sure if this is related but since I updated my laptop to Windows 7 my Chicony Webcam has stopped working. I have tried all of the following:
Complete rebuild of my system from scratch.
    +Unsuccessful+
    Safe Mode drivier installation
+For some reason, it doesnt let me log in via safe mode. I get to the windows log in screen and it reboots itself after a few seconds. Any explanations? Again, have rebuilt PC a few times.+
No Device for webcam in Control panel devices and printers or hardware.
+Manually installing drivers as recommended doesnt work. I cant see the webcam being recognised+
Half closing the lid of the laptop to hear it recognising the camera or new device.
    +Unsuccessful. This does not happen+
In essence, i want to know if this is a Windows 7 compatibility issue or a Toshiba technical fault.
Either way an OFFICIAL word from Toshiba would be key here as I was using the webcam for vital web conferencing for work and now I cant.
Please provide any options or anything else I can try.
Any suggestions deeply valued. Including links or other articles I may have missed
    Desperately seeing a solution.
    Regards
    Danny

The Chicony webcam should be listed in device manager under the option Imagine devices. There you should see USB Video Device entry.
Can you see that?If yes, delete this from the device manager and reboot the unit.
+I see nothing. No entry in imaging devices. No entry in USB devices.+
Usually the Windows 7 should recognize the cam automatically and should refresh the driver. Is it the case?
+Nope. Windows 7 picks up all other drivers. All other software all other facilities. Just not the camera. Laptop works perfectly otherwise, just not cam :(...+

  • External cd/dvd drive not mounting on Macbook Pro with retina display, help?

Hi, I've recently purchased an amazon cd/dvd drive, this one to be exact http://www.amazon.co.uk/External-DVD-LIGHTSCRIBE-Burner-Netbook/dp/B00ABGW9J8, and it's not showing up on my desktop, sidebar or even the disc utility. When I plug it in the drive turns on and I can insert/eject discs, but it isn't mounting on my 10.9 macbook pro, any idea's how this can be fixed?

There have been numerous reports of problems with the USB 3.0 ports on the 2012 models - both Retina and non-Retina. There was a 'fix' that was issued before ML was released that seemed to have solved some problems but not all. ML was supposed to be the real 'fix' and I've not seen too many post about USB 3.0 problems lately. It just seems as if some drives work and some don't. Apple did issue a tech note about using USB 3.0 ports - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5172#12 - but I'm not sure that it will help you or not.
I've not read of any problems with TB storage devices, so you'll likely be OK there. It's just those USB 3.0 devices that seemed to be causing some kinks.

  • DVD Drive not working correctly after Lion install

Lion is doing something strange to the DVD drive in my Mac Pro. Sometimes it works, sometimes it just freezes up apps that are associated with it (such as finder, disk utility etc). The only way to eject is a reboot. It will not read the contents in this scenerio.
I have tried different DVDs, repairing permissions - everything you can think of. I am 99% confident this is somehow related to a bug in Lion.
Anyone else have a similar issue?

    I may have found it.

  • Bluetooth not working on Satellite PRO 660C

    Hello,
I have bought recently a laptop Satellite PRO 660C, it has embedded the Bluetooth function but I have difficulties to make it work with a GSM or an IRIS Scanner (both have the Bluetooth capability)
I would like simply to transfer files from these external devices to my Laptop (pictures)
It works fine from Laptop to device but not in the other way ! There is an application (Bluetooth manager) that enables the transfer always from my Laptop, it looks like Toshiba didn't imagine the scenario where files have to be transferred in both ways.
I get a message saying the transfer of files failed.
If you have an idea how I should configure my laptop.
    Thank you
    Guido

If the notebook is installed with recovery CD/DVD than it should be very simply. Enable WLAN using WLAN switch. When the WLAN LED is ON use FN+F8 key combination and choose BT option.
After doing this it can happen that some BT components will be installed at first but after several minutes you should be able to use BT.
