DVD drive not working properly.....

here's the info on whats going on:
when i try to put in a CD/DVD it spits the disk out right away. after trying to put it in about five times or so, the drive takes it, makes its fancy noises to make me think that its reading the disk, but the computer doesnt recognize that it has one in the drive. sometimes it spits the disk out, but other times it will just keep it.
ive been reading posts from other users with similar issues and done everything that everyone has tried i.e. going to disk utilities and "verifying the disk" (it says everything is working normally), tried to "repair" the drive, and when i go the the info section about my disk drive it says that its read/writable, but not ejectable.
here is the info that it gives me, maybe this could be of some help to try and narrow down the possible problems:
Name : FUJITSU MHY2160BH Media

the last thing that i havent done is do a full restart of the computer. that is my last resort. anyone have any ideas on what to do?
thank you for your time.

I have a question similar to this.....
Just recently (no updates/changes, etc) my CD drive stopped working. It won't let me enter a CD at all. It is as if there is something in there blocking it. I tried restarting the computer, but that didn't help. It acts like I have to force it in there, but I really don't want to do that. As far as I know there's nothing in there, as I rarely use the drive. Please advise if there is any sort of resets I can do for the drive (I'm still trying to get the hang of my MAC).
Thank you for any assistance!!!!

    tcrite,
Sounds like a bad drive...I would get a replacement. According to Accelerate Your Mac database, it should work without issue.
Just enter the model number of the drive and select your Powerbook G3 2000, and you will see four reports on this model.

  • Optical DVD drive not working properly: HP notebook g61

Game disks and dvd movie disks not working consistently. Sometimes detected as empty dvd disk and asks if I want to burn to the disk. Other times does not read that there is a disk in the drive. Computer is about one month old. On one of my game disks, I have to reinsert 4 or 5 times before it will read properly. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you use the disk drive a lot. Before we panic and recommend a new drive, try a DVD lens cleaner you can pick up at any place that sells a lot of DVDs, like even WalMart. Run the cleaner disk and see if that helps.

  • CD/DVD drive not working properly

Hello, I have a Satellite L305-S5907. I just received it Dec. 2008. Recently I installed a game. Stronghold 2 and had trouble with disk 2. I managed to get it installed. When I would put in the play disc it would not always recognize it so I uninstalled the game. When I try to re-install, Autorun does not come up and when I look in My Computer the D drive does not show that the game is in the drive. This happens with another game I am trying to install also. When I put them in the drive it just clicks and the yellow light flashes and nothing happens. Sometimes previously installed games play and sometimes it does the same as above. My drives are up to date and show that they are working properly. I also put in a DVD and got the same thing. I have cleaned the disks and open and closed the drive many times. Nothing is working. thanks

You are using Windows Vista on your computer, right? Try the following steps and it might probably solve your problem.
    - Click on the Start or Pearl button then type regedit on the Start Search box. Click regedit on the Programs List. It will open the Registry Editor window.
    - Look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    - Delete UpperFilters and LowerFilters on the right pane then restart your computer.
    - Check My Computer if the ODD will show up.
Another option is to download the automatic removal tool for the filters. The download link is http://tinyurl.com/5v8v52. Let me know if this will work or not so that we can try other options for your problem.

  • Error code 39 - CD/DVD drive not working properly

Satellite C55D-5170 came with Win 8 and the first automatic software update upgraded it to Win 8.1.
I believe this is the first time I have tried to access the DVD drive but I had successfully used the flash drive.  The DVD drive is not recognized.  The Device Manager, under DVD/CD-ROM drives shows the yellow triangle in front of TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208FB.  Clicking on that shows the following:
Location:  Bus Number 2,  Target Id 0,  LUN 0
    Device status
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.  The driver may be corrupted or missing.  (Code 39)
    {Unable to Load Device Driver}
%hs device driver could not be loaded
    Error Status was 0x%s
I looked through these forums and found that this Code 39 is frightfully common and does not seem to have an answer.  I went to Microsoft's site and using their fix it, but nothing changed.  I tried to update the driver but got the message saying I already had the current driver.  I uninstalled the driver and rebooted the laptop and the driver was reinstalled but nothing changed, still not recognizing the DVD drive.
I need a solution so that I can install a WiFi router.  It would be nice to play some CDs as well.  Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide a solution.

You don't say which site and which fix. If it's the usual registry problem, this article should apply. Work your way through the suggestions.

  • My cd/dvd drive not working properly will not read a recently burnt cd

When i burn a cd it says that i have inserted a blank cd

Lenses inside the drive can be dirty as well.
BestBuy/Walmart carry "drive cleaning" kits ... a special disk that you load with cleaning solution is inserted into the drive, then ejected after running it for a minute or two.

    Hi all,
I was hoping someone could help me. My SD-R6012 DVD drive copies CDs fine, but wont burn any DVDs. Ive tried to install the firmware upgrade for it, but it comes back with the message:
"CD-Drive firmware is NOT need to update firmware"
    Please help!
    Many thanks

    Hi
    Check this page:
    http://www.toshiba-europe.com/storage/Index.asp?page=PFT&nav=ISH_ARC&stype=product&ptype =&frame=content&model=SDR6012
There you will find the newest firmware and drivers. If after this installation the drive doesnt work properly so I assume it has a malfunction.
In this case the only way is to contact the service. There you will get more details.

  • DVD Drive not working, even new one

Hi! I have a PB G4 1.5 Ghz, Mac OSX 10.4.11, 4 years old piece (perhaps a little more). Everything has been fine until recetly my DVD Drive just refused to work. Doesnt read/write etc. Funny since I wrote a DVD, when I inserted teh next one, it stopped working. I tried all efforts mentioned at Apple support, then considered the drive dead.
I bought a new external LaCie DVD Burner. But after a coupel of weeks, that too has stopped working. I am wondering if there is something corrupted in the OS that prevents DVD drives from fucntioning properly. Anyone c an throw light on this one?

    hello... any advice anyone?

  • External DVD drive not working with Lombard G3 333

I have an external DVD drive that worked when I had 10.4, but had to reformat HD and now only have 10.3.9, and now the DVD drive does not work with DVDs, it will work with CDs and CDR media, but not with DVD media. My Lombard did not come with DVD originally and I am using a PC Card (Macintosh PowerBook DVD-Video PC Card For PowerBook G3 Series) and it worked before with 10.4, but not with 10.3, any ideas? Also have tried with 9.x, no go either. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, would it be difficult to add a DVD logic board to my Lombard?
    Joey

    xamdu,
I am reading and replying to this post after first replying to your other post, so a few of my previous comments are redundant.
Regarding the FireWire(?) USB 2.0(?) DVD drive: It is possible Tiger supported your DVD drive but Panther does not. I would give PatchBurn for Panther a try:
    http://patchburn.de/download.html
If the above is unsuccessful, take a look at this workaround:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20040330171655882
You can swap logic boards but it does require a lot of disassembly.
Since no version of OSX supports Apple DVD Player, I am assuming you have a third-party player like VLC installed to watch movies. If this is the case, the DVD Decoder PC card is not necessary. If booted to 9.x, you of course will need the decoder PC card but I did not know 9.x's Apple DVD Player supported external drives.

  • USB Hard Drives Not Working Properly?

    I have an MSI K9N Neo V2/V3? (msi-7369) motherboard with 2GB Ram and an Athlon 64 x2 4200+ processor.
I have a strange USB Port problem! I have a 5 year old home built machine running Windows 7 32bit. Lately the USB ports on the front and back of the machine are not working properly with external hard drives? USB powered or mains powered. They are recognised and show all the folders but If I try to view or transfer anything it freezes the drive?
The ports are working fine for USB sticks though?
I have removed the USB controllers and let the system reinstall them again, but its no better?
I would format the drive and reinstall windows but I have not backed-up all my videos I want and my system restore has been disabled?
I have tried a new USB PCI card but the same happens?
I have updated the bios and all updates with the MSI Live update program.
Can anyone recommend anything to try before I start removing stuff?
Someone told me to update my USB drivers but I can't find any?
    Any help appreciated

I have formatted and installed Windows 7 64bit and USB's were working!!
Updated and now they don't again?
Its going out the window soon!!
Could the firmware update play a part? Am I able to go back to the older firmware?

  • Driver not working properly

My laptop model is hp probook 440 G0.its graphics card number is AMD 8750M. it was work fine windows 8.1. But today i update into windows 10. i installed version 13.x.x but it not work. Then i go to device manager and update driver and it comes version 15.x.x. And show no errors but it is not work properly. In "dxdiag" display memory is only 1796 but in windows 8.1 it show 3047. I have also another graphics which is Intel HD graphics 4000. Now what can I do to run solve to problem?

    Welcome to the forum!
Did you install the Windows XP Chipset Driver for your model prior to trying to install the Ati driver?  The chipset driver must be one of the first drivers installed so that the operating system can correctly identify the rest of the installed hardware for their driver installation.  Once the chipset driver is installed, reboot and then try installing the Windows XP version of the Ati driver.

  • DVD drive not working on Satellite Pro U400-142

My DVD drive is not working. I insert a disk, can hear the drive working for some time but then nothing happens. I checked 'Device Manager' - under DVD/CD-ROM drives it shows: MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ862AS, but there is a black exclamation mark on a yellow circle next to it. I opened the 'Properties' dialogue box and under device status it says:
'Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)
I'd like to try to try to solve the problem by re-installing the driver. I have checked the Toshiba website for the driver, but cannot find it.
I'd be most grateful if someone could give me any ideas on how to sove this problem.
    Thanks
    P

What you can do is follow:
Remove optical disc drive from device manager and restart your notebook.
The drive should be recognized and installed properly. If the same happen again try please > http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ8101LA0000R01.htm

  • External DVD Drive not working with osx 10.8.5

Hi, I'm having issues with my MacBook Pro 15" 9,1 working with an external DVD drive.  I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have been troubleshooting this issue for a few weeks.  The optical drive itself is the original drive that came with the computer, but I have put it in an external enclosure to free up space inside the body of the MacBook Pro.  The drive seems to function fine with CDs (playing and ripping - haven't tried burning yet) but is extremely inconsistent/barely functional with DVD playback.  Only one DVD in my collection properly works - others bring up error messages in multiple programs (VLC, Wondershare, the native DVD application, etc.) and another continuously loops back to the main menu each time "Play Feature" is selected.  These are a variety of DVDs that range from obscure to commercial and old to new (the oldest and most obscure is the only one that works).  After deciding that it is not the programs, I replaced the enclosure.  I still had the same exact issues.  I reset PRAM - no solution there.  I created a new user on my computer, installed the same media players and had the same luck.  I then used the same external drive on my old MacBook Pro 15" (5,4 running OSX 10.6.8) to see if it would work there.  It worked perfectly (with the native DVD application).  What is going on here and how can I get my new computer to recognize the external DVDs reliably and consistently?

older superdrives were Hitachi mfg, new ones are Panasonic.  Since yours is new and panasonic, indications are it wont work thru the enclosure on your NEW macbook, rather as you state on your older Mac.
until you said it worked fine on the old machine, the logical conclusion is a dirty lens on the laser since it reads CDs fine but most DVD not, since the track is much smaller.
Considering a new superdrive is only $48 on ebay ,or $78 for a new superdrive, your frustration might be too much, and just grab a new superdrive.
Your detailed information indicates a firmware incompatibility of the panasonic superdrive thru an enclosure
This is the new superdrive, made by panasonic as you have in your enclosure:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/221280580133?lpid=82
of course thats a lot of trouble buying that AND an enclosure, easier still is just getting a Mac superdrive inside its working enclosure designed for use as such:

  • Dv6636nr dvd drive not working

My daughter's laptop, dv6636nr, the dvd drive is not working.  I went to the device manager and it says the device is working properly.  But when I put a disc in , it just spins, makes some clicking noises then just stops.  Also instead of the little light on it blinking 'green', it now blinks 'orange'.  I tried pulling it out and uninstalling the driver, but that didn't work.  If I need a new one, will it just plug and play and recognize the new one?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

So does anyone have any ideas?  I just want to make sure it is the drive before I waste another $100 on this thing.  It's the orange light that I'm wondering about.  Is it telling me it's no good and get a new one or is it telling me to try something else? I contacted HP and they had me try downloading a bunch of updates and firmware, but that didn't help.  Any help, please?
