Dvd drive won't read disc recorded on dvd recorder

Hello,
When a DVD that has been recorded on a stand alone DVD recorder is inserted into my computer a message appears on the screen that reads, the disc inserted is blank. Also, the disc does not show as an icon on the desktop or sidebar. The disc plays on other machines without fail. HELP!!!!!!!
J.DeMonte

Hey I had my mbp for about a week before I put in a disk. The second I stuck it in a knew something was wrong seeing it shook my entire desk. I took it in and they repaired the 400 part and now it works fine.
Your problem was one of my symptoms so take it in. They will check it out. They knew mine was messed up as soon as they tried to burn something. I was covered by warranty I hope you are.

  • MacBook CD/DVD drive won't read disc

I have a Apple MacBook MC207LL. I have run into a major problem. My CD/DVD drive won't recogonize a disc when it's inserted (I have to force eject it). Disk utility shows that there is a disc present in the CD/DVD drive.
My major issue is that I erased my partition so I can have a clean install of my laptop. Now I can't reinstall the OS because it won't read the disc or a USB.
Is there a way to use Terminal to force it to read my data on the disc?
Otherwise I am stuck with an empty computer that I will never be able to use I have done research on this and nobody has run into this exact problem as me. If someone can take their time to help me out that would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem, but now mine wont even notice that the disc is there! I wouldsay take it to the genius bar.

  • X205 9800 disc drive won't read discs, have external CD/DVD ROM.

I have an X205 9800.  I upgraded to Windows 7.  After a few weeks the disc drive stopped working.  It will not read any of my discs/cds/dvd/etc.
I ordered an external Toshiba USB disc drive.  It works great!  No issues, but I want to use my recovery media I ordered from Toshiba.com.  It will read, initially, from the external USB disc drive.  But once I initialize the recovery media it tries to use the internal disc drive, not the USB one.
I restarted the laptop.  Hit F12.  Changed it from my internal to my external.  Saved changes.  Still nothing.
I even tried disabling the internal one as well.  Still same problem.  The laptop wants to read the media from the internal disc drive and it will not read any disc I have.
How do I get my laptop to do a full recovery from my USB disc drive instead of my internal one on my laptop?
    Or...
Is there a fix to get my internal disc drive to read my cds/dvds?
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

    Hello,
Is the internal DVD drive recognized by the laptop? Can you see it on computer?
If yes- Try going to the device manager, uninstall the DVD driver then restart the laptop. The DVD driver should be installed automatically after restarting the laptop.
If no - Do the upper and lower filter troubleshooting.
Click on start, type REGEDIT on RUN or if you are using vista/windows 7, tyoe it on the search programs and files..
It will go directly to registry editor.
Look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE click on + sign or the arrow then look for SYSTEM click on + sign or the arrow then look for CurrentControlSet click on + sign or the arrow then look for Control click on + sign or the arrow then look for Class click on + sign or the arrow then look for {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} click on + sign or the arrow then look on the right part of the window, look for LowerFilter and upper filter. Delete them or even if you can only find one of them, just delete it then restart the laptop.
    Hope this help.

  • MacBook CD/DVD drive won't read discs

I have just updated the new OXS 10.9 for my Macbook Pro. Then I found that I insert the discs, the drive makes the repetitive 'hunting' sound of a drive that can't recognise a disc. It will eventually give up and eject the disc.

I am having the same problem, but now mine wont even notice that the disc is there! I wouldsay take it to the genius bar.

  • My notebook's cd/dvd drive won't read discs.

I checked the drive's properties in the device manager and it says "its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)". how do i fix this?
I'm running vista home premium on a pretty new pavilion notebook with a blue ray player (if that makes any difference). its only about four months old, I got it right around christmas.

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Vista
Check if the drive is now working.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

  • Sept. 2006 17" 1.83GHz Intel iMac Combo drive won't read discs...

When I insert a CD (audio or data), the drive spits the disc out after about 15-20 sec.  Nothing shows up.  Nothing said.  The disc just comes back out.  Hardware Info shows the drive is there:
    MATSHITACD-RW  CW-8124:
      Model:          MATSHITACD-RW  CW-8124
      Revision:          DACH
      Serial Number:
      Detachable Drive:          No
      Protocol:          ATAPI
      Unit Number:          0
      Socket Type:          Internal
      Low Power Polling:          Yes
      Power Off:          No
But nothing else.  Doesn't show the serial number either.  Can't find any tools to test the drive with.  A friend suggests I remove the drive and try manually cleaning the lens (Using CD/DVD cleaning disc did nothing).  But I don't want to go to all that trouble, if there isn't a more than likely chance of it working.  Too much disassembly/reassembly effort  I'd rather just replace the drive while I'm in there.
I don't have the original discs that came with this system, so I can't run AHT.  I'm told it won't tell me anything either, just that the drive is there, which the Hardware Info already says.
Should I try to go in and manually clean the lens or just replace the drive?  Has anyone else manually cleaned their lens and had their drive work or is replacement really the only option at this point?
I'm told I should just get a USB external CD/DVD drive and be done with it... but I'd like to restore this computer to fully working order, if possible.

The Early iMac's are one of the most difficult iMac's to open and work on. Another problem given it's age, is that display cables and other connections are very brittle and it is very likely that more harm than good will come from working on it.
On that note: I suggest finding and using an OS X compatible External tray loading CD/DVD drive for several reasons.
    1. External CD/DVD drives are faster and more reliable than slim-line super drives.
    2. For about the same cost or less, a good External CD/DVD drive should also give you the ability to burn CDs and DVDs.
    3. Using an External CD/DVD drive is a lot easier than ripping into the iMac and replacing the internal drive.
Personally I am happily using an older LG GE24LU20 with both my Early Core Duo and Mac Mini, but others here have also recommended that the GP10 DVD and Blu-ray, the LaCie's and the OWC FireWire drives are all very good solution for a busted internal super or combo drive.

  • Drive won't read any dvd ejects it automatically

My drive Won't read any kind of DVDs, it keeps ejecting automatically after spinning for a while. it's been going on for a while now. please help!!!!!

You can try resetting the SMC Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support
and PRAM How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
If that doesn't help you can try a cleaning disc or a quick shot of canned air. It's likely though that your drive has failed, it' not all that uncommon. It that is the case you can either replace it or have it replaced but it's far cheaper just to buy a usb external drive....just not Apples because it won't work with macs with a built in drive working or not. .

  • My CD/DVD-rom drive won't read audio cd's

Since installing itunes on my laptop, the CD/DVD rom drive won't read audio cd's any more! However, it will read data CD's and dvds.
It didn't stop all at once...it started failing to read the odd random audio cd. Over time, gradually more and more CD's not recognised until no audio cd's readable at all!
When I say 'not recognised' I mean that if you look in the cd-rom file with a music disc inserted it thinks the drive is empty. The drive spins the disc a few times and then gives up. As only music cd's affected I suspect this is something to do with the itunes software. I've tried the various troubleshooting tips on itunes help but no joy....has anyone else had this problem / anyone know of a possible solution?
    Thanks
    Tiny

I had the same problem and I contacted a support team. They suggested that I upgrade my computer's power supply and I did. I had a 250W drive and now I have a 350W drive and it reads the CDs perfectly; except for one certain CD.

  • Optical drive won't read certain discs?

Hello, this is my first post in the community and I am a novice with computers. I bought my iMac in 2010 at Apple and it has been the best computer I have ever owned. But for some reason starting today the optical drive won't read any type of cd's like a user's manual or software install disc. It tries but just ejects it back out. Now the strange part is I can put any dvd disc to play a movie and plays it perfectly with no problem at all. Has anyone had this happen to them or any thought on what is wrong. My wife has a macbook and hers works fine and I checked her system preferences for cd's/dvd and they are the same. I a running 10.6.8 OS. Thanks

The iMac supports the following CD types if it is one of these types and still won't read then it sounds like a CD hardware or software driver problem. If you re-load the software driver and it still doesn't work then I would then suggest you take it to an Apple store for repair.

  • DVD drive won't read disks at boot

    I have a Paviliton DV6-2113sa running Win7 HP  64bit.
I removed Acronis True Image and when I rebooted I got a BSOD at the point when the coloured balls should merge into one.
I thought OK, put the system repair disk into the DVD drive and boot up, but the drive is failing to read any recovery dosks. I think the drive has packed up as I haven't used it for some time.
Can I use any replacement drive in this model or must I get the same one again?
The drive light flickers as though it is reading data but it doesn't 'spool up' to speed and I don't get the 'press any key to load from DVD'.
The BSODs are a seperate issue which I think running a system repair will fix but I can't as the drive won't read data.
Is it possible to put the repair disk files onto a 4gb USB stick and if so, how do I do it?
    Thanks.

    Hi Peeps
I had exactly the same problem with my Macbook, again from the UK. Really weird though as would intermittantly read DVD film's which worked fine previously.
Well.... Took it to my local Apple store and saw a genius and anyway they replaced the super drive and logic board (surprised about the logic board!).
But just got it back today and the DVD drive is completely fubard so is being returned tomorrow to get this sorted!
Moral of the story, sounds like a drive or board problem. Will keep you updated when I get mine back

  • Macbook pro won't read discs

macbook pro won't read discs. I have tried resetting the SMC & the computer itself. Any ideas

What exactly happens when you try?
Have you tried both DVDs and CDs?
    Try a cleaning disk.
Otherwise it would seem that the optical drive failed.

  • DVD Drive Won't Read "Homemade" Data Discs

Hello! I just purchased a T500 with a regular old DVD burner (Optiarc DVD RW AD-7910S) and am having an issue with it. The problem is that it will read certain DVDs just fine (a Visual Studio DVD, for instance, worked just fine. As did a Vista Ultimate DVD). Unfortunately, other discs are not so fortunate. Anything that contains just plain old data files (such as a disc of log files, a disc with video files, etc) won't load at all. The drive will spin up, spin down, make a floppy disk reading clunking sound, and repeat the procedure.
So it seems that anything that comes from an ISO or an "official" source (Microsoft) works fine, but any time a disc was burned with Nero or the Windows burning thing(tm) it won't read at all. This doesn't apply to CDs, however, which seem to be working just fine.
Is this an easily fixable problem? Could it be a problem with the hardware? It doesn't seem like that would only stop it from reading data discs, but I'm no expert. I updated the firmware to the latest version available on the download site (actually I did that before trying any data discs, so I don't know if it was an issue with the old firmware). Is it possible that it didn't update properly or something? Would it be worth trying (or possible) to redo the firmware update or to revert to the old version to test? Forgive me if I'm sounding ignorant here.
    Thanks for any insights!
P.S. I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, if that makes any difference to anything.

Total WAG:  are your home-made data DVDs finalized?  I think just about everything these days can handle mulit-session CDs, but IIRC there are some configurations that won't recognize multi-session DVDs.
Like I said, just a WAG.

  • G60t-200 CD/DVD drive won't read XP discs

I recently re-installed Windows 7 Home Premium after I had a blue screen crash forcing me to re-format the hard drive on a g-60t-200. I've installed all the recommended Windows updates as well as all the HP updates for the g60t-200 model that I have but now the CD/DVD drive will not read the files on older discs that I burned using Windows XP on another machine. It shows the disc in the drive and shows the folders on the disc but when you open the folders, the files are not visible. When I right click and open up the properties of the disc while it's in the drive it shows it as "UDF" format. The other machines in the house running Windows XP can read the disks just fine and show all the files. Is there an update or driver I'm missing that will allow the drives to read the files on discs burned using Windows XP?

Hi sherifawad, and welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that after restoring your computer, you can no longer read CD/DVD's that were burned on XP with the Windows 7 operating system. I will try my best to help you resolve this issue. I suggest that you make sure that you have the latest service pack for Windows 7. Here is the Service Pack and Update Center for Windows.
I am including this document for Using HP Support Tools to Update HP Software, Drivers, and BIOS with Windows 7.
I hope this helps, please let me know how it goes.
