For now can I install the Leopard Upgrade from a DVD drive on a PC on my network? Is it better to copy the whole disk from the network DVD Drive to my local drive and install it from there?

  • My DVD drive won't recognize blank DVDs! Hayilp!

Hi, My 17" G4 Powerbook recently stopped recognizing blank media when I insert them, there's some whirring noises for about a minute and then it spits them back with no dialogue whatsoever. Please help.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Max

I'm having the same problem and am really trying to burn some large .iso files. ***?

  • G4 DVD drive won't recognize OS 10.4 upgrade disc

I have a a PowerMac G4 (AGP graphics) with a CPU type PowerPC G4 (2.9). I have a upgrade disc for OS 10.4. When I load it into my Quantam Fireballlp LM27.3 DVD drive, the drive won't recognize the disc. It attempts to read it and then ejects it. I have an external USB 2.0 DVD RW burner plugged into a USB 1.0 port, and it recognizes the disc, but I can't select it as the startup disc.
How do I get my system to read the upgrade disc so I can upgrade to OS 10.4? I've run a lens cleaner several times with no change.
    Thanks!

    Hi-
Well, if you know someone who has a Mac, or, if you have another machine, try the disc in another machine. There is a possibility that the disc itself is bad. I would consider this a strong possibility, since the drive recognizes other DVD's, and the Panther install disc.
If the disc tests good in another machine, then you will need to consider replacing the drive for a newer model. A new combo drive is only about $30-$40. The Pioneer DVR-112 would be a good consideration.

As for the "helpful" not working, there seems to be a problem within the system (known by the hosts, yet allowed to continue....). For now, I will gladly accept your thanks! (and, you're welcome!)

  • My cd/dvd drive won't recognize my cd pavillion dv4

Every time I put a CD or DVD into my CD/DVD drive, it won't recognize it. It "thinks" for about a minute and then stops. Sometimes if I open and close it will work but not always. I have a Pavillion dv4 with windows 7 that I bought in November 2009 (but my entire hard drive was replaced in May 2011)

    Hi,
Please try the following method to fix first:

  • DVD Drive won't recognize DVD's or CD's

I just got a new, refurbished Mac Mini today. The DVD Drive will recognize only 1 out of the 3 install disks that came with the system. It tries to initialize 2 out of the 3 and just ejects them about 15 seconds after I put them in. I tried to put a blank CD in and it ejects it as well after about 15 seconds. I called Apple Tech. Support and they had me reset the system by holding down the power button for 10 seconds without any peripherals attached. They also had me try holding down the "Windows" Key, "Alt" Key, "R" Key and then the "P" key upon bootup (I'm using a Windows Keyboard). I couldn't get this to work though probably because I'm using a PS2 keyboard with a USB adapter, even though I can use the keyboard in the Mac GUI. Tech support told me if I can boot up with these 4 keys pressed this works 99% of the time in fixing most problems, but I don't have a USB keyboard yet to try it.
Now I'm downloading all the updates for 10.4.10 to see if that will fix anything per the advice of tech support. Is there anything else I can try before I take it to a local Apple Store?

For now can I install the Leopard Upgrade from a DVD drive on a PC on my network? Is it better to copy the whole disk from the network DVD Drive to my local drive and install it from there?

  • DVD player won't recognize firewire DVD drive and won't install.

I bought a Sony firewire DVD drive so that my wife could watch DVDs on her iBook. I can't get Apple's DVD Player to install on the iBook because it says it doesn't recognize any appropriate hardware.
Does anyone know how to get it to recognize the firewire DVD player and install?
If not, does anyone else know of a good third party DVD player for this iBook. I installed one, I think it is called Xine or something like that. It playes the DVDs but is "glitchy."
    Thanks very much,
    Ted Vieira

Actually, since posting the question I found an answer in an ealier thread...
I'm still not sure about getting Apple's DVD Player to work with an exernal drive, but you can get a free VLC Medea Player that works great at:
    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html
I was able to download this and install it. It was a little "glitchy" with USB 2.0, but worked fine with FireWire.

  • EXPERTS!! CD/DVD Drive Won't Recognize Discs

    Hello Experts,
My CD/DVD drive is unable to read discs. This has happened before while the computer was under warranty and the tech was able to remotely fix it, but it has started doing it again.
I figured my drive had gone bad, so I have bought a new drive and installed it, but the same problem. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers as well. No new software has been added or removed either.
    HP Pavilion Notebook dv7-2185dx
The drive is a TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633M ATA Device
Thanks in advance for the help!

Also have tried clearing the upper/lower filters in the registry, as well as system restore and microsoft fix it.
You can hear the drive reading, or attempting to read the disc, but it says there is no disc present.

Hi there. count me in on the Sony DVD problems. My Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 will not recognize the Adobe Creative Suite 3 DVD for installation. The DVD works fine in other G4 systems.
The DVD drive will recognize data CD's but this Adobe DVD just churns and hums for 30 seconds and then the drive ejects the disk.
DVD Laser Lens Cleaner from Radio Shack will not load either.

After reading the boards, it sounds like the Pioneer DVR-112D 18X DVD Burner (Drive only) is the unit to buy and replace this Sony one.
There appears to be a spacer issue related to the door on the G5 Tower case. Will the spacers from the Sony unit work on the Pioneer unit, or can the Pioneer unit just be installed as is using the existing ribbon cable. I've read the PMG5OpticalDriveDIY.pdf replacement manual, but am confused about SuperDrives vs. the Pioneer DVR-112D.
Can anyone clarify the details of replacement?
Also, will I need new software (Roxio, Toast) to burn CD's and DVD's after replacing the drive?
    thanks, and best regards,
    Eric

  • DVD players won't recognize my DVD

I recently made a DVD slide show and both on my son's portable DVD player and my own fixed DVD player, the DVD continued to "load" as an endless loop and could never be played. I have a new IMac with IDVD 6.0.3. I have made movies (with the new computer and current applications) and burned them to a DVD and nobody in the family had trouble playing them. I use HP DVD-R 16X and I burn at maximum speed. What am I missing? thanks, Dr.Steve

I use HP DVD-R 16X and I burn at maximum speed. What am I missing?
High speed burns tend to result in more burn-errors which result in problems playing the DVDs in set top DVD players (usually such discs will play in computers, because computers have more error correction than set top DVD players).
iDVD doesn't give you burn speed options.
The only way (other than finding low-speed media) to keep the burn speed at 4x or less, is to make your DVDs in two steps: Step One Create a disk image of your completed project (it's an option under File) and Step Two Use Apple's Disk Utility application to burn the image to writable media. DU will give you burn speed options.

  • DVD Writer won't recognize Blank DVD (Imation)

    Hi
I have bundle blank DVD brand Imation but unfortunately my internal or external dvd writer would not recognize the disc. I have tried several times using Toast Titanium 6 and when i put the blank disc it says 'please put a blank disc. In fact, the disc i haven't use at all. Does it cause of my firmware or other related problem. Please help me. Thank you.

    Hi M Faza-
Since it is two different drives the first step is to try a different brand of discs.
Are the discs compatible? Did you but dual layer discs when in fact you have a single-layer burner? Are you putting the disc into the drive with the correct side down?
    Luck-

  • DVD Drive won't work! (DVD region settings?)

My DVD drive does not seem to be working. I sent it in for servicing and was told that they changed the drive.
However, it still does not accept/recognize DVDs at all when I insert them. I recently travelled overseas and changed my region from region 4 to region 1. I have not changed it back, but cannot figure out how to even open the settings.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks!

The drive automatically detects that a disk with a different region was inserted. You can only change it 5 times however. If you continue having problems take it to your nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.

  • Satellite M40-145: CD/DVD drive won't read some DVDs

    Hello!
I own a Satellite M40-145 purchased just over one year ago; the DVD driver worked perfectly until three days ago, but today I discovered something... peculiar. It still reads commercial DVDs and burned DVD+R, but apparently it doesn't read burned DVD-Rs anymore. I have tried with different DVD-Rs I burned through the same DVD player, with no success; trying to access the DVD yields a "insert disk in D: drive" message.
In this case, I'm talking about movies on DVDs. Please tell me there's a way to solve this without sending the computer to customer service...
I'd hate to think it broke down just days after the expiration date of the warranty.

    Hi
Well, you can try to remove the drive form the device manger.
After new reboot the drive should be recognized again. Check then if its possible to read the DVD-R CD.
But the issue sounds as a lens calibration error. If you use different media the lens must be calibrated again. But if this procedure fails, the drive is not able to read or write the DVD for example.
Unfortunately, in such cases only the drive replacement will solve this issue.

  • DVD drive doesn't recognize blank DVDs or allow burns

I got a 20", 2.4 Ghz Intel Imac not too long ago, with Leopard already installed. I'd been using Parallels or Boot Camp to do all by DVD burning in Windows until recently. The first time I tried to do it in OSX 10.5.1, it didn't work right. The DVD icon does not show up on the desktop, though it's acknowledged when it's inserted, and a box pops up asking for me to perform an action. But I can't get it to burn a simple data DVD through disk utility, or even in DVD Studio Pro. I saw other threads about this, wondering if anyone has a solution. A file ending in .plist was mentioned, that you should move from its folder if you find it. I didn't find it. What else can I do? Works fine in Windows through Boot Camp or Parallels, and once a disc has something on it, it'll show up when put in the DVD drive. It's only blanks that are "invisible".

You issue sounds similiar to all of us in the other chat thread. Go to "MATSHITA superdrive has died" and post your comments there, perhaps more people post, it might get Apple's attention.

  • Dvd drive won't read/ejects dvds at a whim

    Hi all,
My macbook dvd drive seems to not wish to play certain dvds- only a few though... when this occurs, it just tends to spit them back out at me.
It's not a problem with the dvds, as they play on my dvd player, just not on the laptop...
    any ideas?

    Hi Peeps
I had exactly the same problem with my Macbook, again from the UK. Really weird though as would intermittantly read DVD film's which worked fine previously.
Well.... Took it to my local Apple store and saw a genius and anyway they replaced the super drive and logic board (surprised about the logic board!).
But just got it back today and the DVD drive is completely fubard so is being returned tomorrow to get this sorted!
Moral of the story, sounds like a drive or board problem. Will keep you updated when I get mine back

  • DVD Drive won't read blank DVD+R or DVD-R media

It just, ehm, won't. I've tried both, and I've never had any problems reading DVDs or writing CDs, though this is the first time I've tried to write to a DVD. When either disc is in the drive, the computer acts as if it's simply not there--Explorer, Nero, and everything else all act the same. Help would be greatly appreciated, because this DVD is fairly important...
I'd be more than happy to answer any questions about the problem, if you have any.
