DVD Driver corruption when upgrading i tunes

Everytime there is an upgrade for itunes my driver for my dvd drive becomes corrupted. It has happened 3 times. I have a dell inspiron 530s. They have restored my drivers by ininstalling them and removing a string from the registry and then re-booting but they have said that they won't do this again unless I pay for software support. Does anyone know which string from the registry they remove? Thanks.

the laptop in which i want itunes on hasnt got internet connection.
There is a program file on the laptop under my old ipod which is called 'ipod services' but the files cannot be edited or deleted

    Yes.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts.
When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
    Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
    Click Repair Disk.
If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done.
Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.
If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced

I believe my ipads hard drive corrupted when i went from my macbook to a pc...I can get to the screen with cord and itunes but cant get past there to desktop of ipad...Any help would be appreciated....

Try using this article to help with your iPad not showing up in iTunes---
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538     -This deals with the device not being recognized in iTunes for Windows
The following steps work well with iPod but i would try them for help with your iPad issue:
Try connecting your iPad to another USB port directly on the computer. Verify that you're connecting it to a high-powered USB 2.0 port on your computer to be sure iPad is getting power. If you're connecting to a Windows laptop computer through USB, connect the laptop to a power outlet before connecting your iPad. Also, see iPod not recognized when connected to Windows laptop over USB to be sure that your USB ports are supplying enough power.
Avoid connecting to an external USB hub. If a hub must be used, make sure the hub is USB 2.0, and that it has its own power supply. Also, make sure the hub is connected to a high-power USB 2.0 port on your computer.
If the issue persists, try disconnecting other USB devices from the computer such as printers, cameras, scanners, external hard drives, and USB hubs to determine if there is a conflict in the USB chain.

  • Bug - Lightroom 3 - CD/DVD drive corrupted

I have an issue that has been tested and proven to be Lightroom related whereas installing Lightroom, and updating to v 3.3 has caused my cd/DVD RW drive to be lost and corrupted.
The following notes and  timeline are a little long, but they fully explain the situation. If  anyone has had this issue or knows about a fix I would appreciate a  reply:
I will also add that I am a little peeved at the tech for Adobe customer support because he tried to brush me off after a few basic steps and told me the problem was a Windows issue. He said that Lightroom was installed on thousands of PC’s, and if the problem was Adobe’s there would be other people with the same issue… That was a presumptuous statement; as there is always the first case of a bug, and just because I was the first one to either have or report this problem, it did not justify Adobe leaving me cold. There is now a case number on this issue after further testing and my insistence that he escalate the case because I had already determined that it occurred at the precise moment I installed Lightroom. the Adobe Case # is 0181989673
    Problem Timeline:
After installing Lightroom 3, I discovered that CD/DVD Re-Writer drive was not working for Lightroom exports, I was seeing the notice at the bottom of theexport window stating “Disc Burning is not supported by lightroom on this computer” (The same as in the V 2.2 Bug)… As well, I looked in Windows > MyComputer, and the CD/DVD RW drive was missing.  I looked to the device manager. The CD/DVD Writer was listed in the tree but had a yellow exclamation notice. I Confirmed Error Code (I beleive it was code 31) for Driver not loading properly or corrupted.
I did some research and found the following information at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116
I followed the instructions as listed below (inset)... Timeline continued after.
Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs:

If you cannot play or access a CD or DVD, you may have to reinstall some programs. Some programs might not be able to use your CD or DVD drive until you reinstall those programs. If the problem occurs again when you install or uninstall those programs, contact the manufacturer of the program to see if an update is available that solves the problem. Some examples of programs that might be affected are:
        * iTunes software by Apple
        * Nero software by Nero Inc
        * Roxio Creator software by Sonic Solutions
        * Zune software by Microsoft
After reinstalling your programs, if you can play or access a CD or DVD, you are finished with this article.
After performing above procedures the CD/DVD drive loaded (Plug and Play) successfully and was recognized at a basic level. I re-installed the authoring software (Ashampoo Burning Studio 6). At this time I could read and write to DVD via Ashampoo; but still, I could no longer write to either CD or DVD via Windows XP.
Also at this time; I could still no longer write to CD or DVD via Lightroom 3.3 using export and choosing CD/DVD… Lighroom was still listing at the bottom of the export window “Disc Burning is not supported by lightroom on this computer”.
This brings me to the point at which I called Adobe Support; Case # 0181989673
Adobe tech had me perform the following:
Pull     the preferences folder out of Lightroom 3.3 folder and re-start Lightroom…     Problem still present
Open     Lightroom from the Administrators User account; import a photo and try to     export and burn to CD/DVD… Problem      still present
At this time the tech told me it was a Windows issue; NOT an Adobe issue; and that I would need to take it up with Microsoft, or just export to hard drive and burn to CD/DVD afterward using authoring software.
I immediately told the tech that was NOT acceptable because this issuewas caused by installing Lightroom 3.3; and although the problem now existed in Windows; that did not wash Adobes hands of it. I requested that the case been escalated to a senior tech… I did not at all appreciate the idea of being left in the middle and I also did not appreciate the notion of having a CD/DVD writer that was buggy and not performing as it should.
He told me "Lightroom was installed on thousands of PC’s, and if the problem was Adobe’s there would be other peoplewith the same issue"… To me, that was a STUPID statement; as there is always the first case of a bug, and just because I was the first one to either have or report this problem, did not justify Adobe leaving me cold.
The     tech decided to try creating a new Windows XP user account as     administrator and re-test Lightroom for burning to CD/DVD… Problem still present
Tech     instructed me to un-install and Re-install Lightroom. I un-installed     Lightroom. After taking screen shots of my preference settings (since I     would need to re-set all settings again). I uninstalled Lightroom.
At     this time; though the tech did not think of doing it; I decided to try and     burn to CD/DVD via Windows to see if the problem was gone after removal of     Lightroom. Now, with Lightroom removed, I can write to CD/DVD in the     conventional way using drag and drop via Windows.
I      told the tech what I had done; proving that this was in fact related to      Lightroom. He stated the case would be escalated and gave me the case      number.
I hope this taught the tech a lesson in troubleshooting and hope he will not be so quick to assume “Not an Adobe issue” as the exact cause of this anomaly has not been determined yet... Now I have not re-installed Lightroom yet. I would like for the senior tech who takes this case to contact me to give me further instruction because I have no reason to believe re-installation will not cause me problems again and want the tech to witness the result.

This problem has been resolved. I haven't heard from anyone else who has had the same issue, but in the event anyone does I can say what corrected it and I have a theory of what might have happened. Originally I installed Lightroom from the disk and after installation chose to update. After this is when the problem with the CD/DVD drive showed up. The tech at Adobe said they did not know what could have caused it, but recommended re-installing Lightroom to see if it happened again.
I did some research and found information at Peachpit: Having trouble burning CD/DVDs in Lightroom 2.2?
about a bug that was present in version 2.2 where the installation executable was accidentally installing the 64 bit drivers on the 32 bit system... The 64 bit drivers were corrupting the installation... On a hunch that it could be a similar issue, I downloaded Lightroom version 3.3 from Adobe and installed it rather than installing from the original CD. I did the install following the same instructions on the Peachpit post which was to double-click the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 folder, then double-click the setup32.exe file rather than double clicking the default installation executable.
I did not prove the above theory of the version 2.2 bug to be the cause, but the problem I had with the CD drive appeared after the original installation and went away after I uninstalled that installation of Lightroom. Now after re-installing as explained; the problem is gone.

  • IMac with Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive. When?

Is there any info about when iMacs with Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive will be available?

Apple sits officially in the Blu-Ray camp so HD-DVD is less likely.
A slot-loading drive exists but only Apple know when and if they choose to use it in the iMac.
At this time even the Mac Pro doesn't have it as an option (unless you install yourself for $700, although that does inc Toast Ti).

  • DVD drive failed after upgrade to 10.4.9

After upgrading to OS X 10.4.9 I noticed that my internal DVD drive (SuperDrive Pioneer DVR-104) failed.
I did the delta upgrade and immediately checked the most common "error" of misbehaving eject key. The key did not function at all, even after pressing it for minutes.
Later I found out that the complete drive failed.
System Profiler tells me (sorry german output)
    Modell: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104
    Version: 0000
    Seriennummer:
    Absteckbares Laufwerk: Nein
    Protokoll: ATAPI
    Einheiten-Nummer: 0
    Socket-Typ: Intern
Note: no version or serial number!
DVD player gives the message (translated):
"no valid DVD drive found [-70012]"
Toast does not find the drive.
    I did:
    - repair permissions
    - repair drive/file system
    - the combo upgrade
    - reset parameter ram
    - reset all from open firmware
    - reset PMU
    no change
Do you have any hints besides replacing the drive?
Maybe it's just a coincidence. I did not use the drive for 2 weeks before
    the upgrade.

  • DVD Driver corrupted

My DVD drive in my B570 has stopped working. Windows says that the "driver is missing or corrupted". As far as I can tell, there is no driver download available. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

    Hi
    Welcome To Lenovo Community
We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing,
This is most likely a software related issue, but as a first step, ensure the drive is still recognized at the hardware level by restarting the system and entering BIOS or boot menu .  Ensure the DVD drive is recognized as one of the attached storage devices.
If the drive is not recognized in BIOS, please contact service.
If the drive is recognized in BIOS, but does not work properly in Windows:
You might try the automated Microsoft Fixit solution for CD/DVD drives here.
If you are you are technically proficient, you can also try the following to remove the affected filter drivers.
     1. Click on the Start button and type regedit in the Start Search box. Click on the located file in the Programs list.
     2. Type in your administrator password or confirmation if you are prompted to do so and click on Continue.
     3. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
    hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\control\class\{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
Note that there may be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 3. Check that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilter values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the default data value is DVD/CDRom and the class data value is CDRom.
In the right pane, right-click Upperfilters , and then click Delete .
Click Yes to confirm the removal of the Upperfilters registry entry.
In the right pane, right-click Lowerfilters , and then click Delete .
Click Yes to confirm the removal of the Lowerfilters registry entry.
Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

  • Mac Mini DVD Drive fail and upgrading to Snow Leopard

Hey, my Mac Mini has a dvd drive failure, ir reads cd's but just spits out dvd's. It no longer burns cd's either.
The main question is, will I be able to install Snow Leopard from an external dvd drive? As I am thinking about getting one as a burner/player instead of paying sky high prices for a new superdrive to be fitted in the Mini.
    Many thanks for any help

    Sure,
    Here's the methodolgy from Apple:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Here's a video from OWC, which shows how to install a HD or an Optical Drive into your Mini:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/macmini06-08/
There's probably more than one slot-loading drive model that will work in your Mini, and you may even gain a new capability, like dual-layer DVD burning capability, if you do a little homework on the models that will work for your Mini.
    Peace to you,
    C. Livingstone

  • When upgrade i-tunes to iphone3GS, iphone seems not working

After upgrade i-tunes to the desktop, and want to sync with the i-phone, but seems doesn't work

Your problem has nothing to do with the topic of this thread.  You need to do the basic troubleshooting steps described in the User Guide, appedix B - Restart, Reset, Restore using backup, Restore as new.
Note that if you restore, you will be updating to the latest iOS as well - 5.0.

  • I lost my DVD driver during an upgrade

Hi-This is new to me.  When I tried to install a program from a CD it wouldn't read it.  When I searched devices it said my driver had been disabled and showed there is none there.  I have a Pavilion G71-340US notebook that had lightscribe installed, and has since been removed via an upgrade and no replacement driver had been installed.  I went to the HP Drivers and Downloads web and didn't get very far.
    Help!
    Les

    Hi Les,
The diver for the DVD/CD drive is supplied by the Windows operating system, so it's possible that there is a Hardware issue with the optical drive, but it may be worth trying the following.
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Check if the drive is now working.
If the drive is not working, from the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

  • How is my DVD drive working when it isn't supposed to?

definitely not a complaint, but I recently put some spare parts from upgraded machines in my beige, an NEC superdrive (unsupported for iApps, but bootable in 9 & X), an old rage card WITHOUT the DVD decoder, and a 450MHz processor pulled from a B & W. runs Jaguar now beautifully. I put in a DVD the other day to see if VLC might be able to play a DVD since I'd heard that without the DVD decoder and without being booted into 9 the beige G3's just wouldn't work with Apple's DVD player in X. by default the DVD launched Apple DVD and it played, perfectly.
is there a decoder maybe in the drive itself or some other explanation for how this is working? like I said, NOT a complaint, just confused (in a good way).

Yes, playing DVDs with the on-board Rage video is a surprise. While Apple moved the DVD decoding into OS 9 software (Altivec not required), supposedly a video card equivalent to the Apple Rage 128 (16 MB VRAM), found in B&W G3s and beyond, was required for the Apple DVD Player to function properly. For the Beige G3s that meant a Rage Orion or better. But, if it works off the on-board video, more power to you.
Does the DVR show up in ASP? Does ASP show it as "Burning Supported"?

  • My dvd drive freezes when connected to external display

when i run a DVD normally it seems to run fine but when i connect it to a projector via a VGA cable it runs for about 10 min and then it freezes. i have to restart my laptop to get it to run again. once i do that IM back to square one in a few mins again. i am using a cooling mat and am wondering if there is anything i can do. my os is vista

Connecting an external monitor/display turns on the high-performance graphics adapter which can generate significant heat.  The base-plate can get pretty hot (Apple states this and for this reason says to not use the MacBook Pro on your lap.  They don't even refer to them as laptops.).  Just make sure that nothing is blocking the cooling ports under the display hinge.  If the MacBook Pro actually overheats, it will shut down.  So, don't worry yet.

Hi, I uninstalled PC Suite today, followed all the other threads, downloaded Nokia PC Suite Cleaner (but it crashes almost immediately), I have installed and run Microsoft cleaner and now I have no Nokia reference in " Drive C", or in the registry as I edited that as per other threads, I attempted to install version 7.1 and also OVI at different times, both halt and report the error.

I do not know the original version of PC Suite that was installed on my computer, however it is now gone.  I have as I said 6208C, Windows Vista.
I wish someone would take the time to lay out a solution for me if there is one that can be shared.  Perhaps a link to an earlier version of PC Suite that I can reinstall to have functionality returned?
    Thank you in advance.
