DVD drives access denied

Here's a weird one. Win 8.1 Pro
New computer with a transferred SSD HD.
Everything works fine except for the two DVD drives.
Both say Location is not available
Z: is no accessible
Access is denied
In Advanced Security the Owner is : Unable to display current owner.
When you hit change it says Cant open access control editor. unable to performoperation on an object that has
no associated security.
I tried removing them and reinstalling in Device manager
I tried taking ownership
I tried the upperFilters fix
I tried running the Fix it troubleshooter
I tried adding the registry subkey to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks!

What is this "New computer with a transferred SSD HD"?
This is not vanilla plain new installation? You have transferred SSD from another computer? If this is a case, then no wonder that you have problems. Reinstall.

  • Windows 8: Bit Locker encrypted drive "Access Denied" external drive

I rebuilt my computer and installed win 8.1 pro.  Now my external drive comes up as an empty drive with "Access denied".  Here is the kicker: I had turned off bitlocker on the external drive long ago as it interfered with automated backups.
    Running the commands suggested here:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/738c1760-c96d-430f-9ae6-1f28f5c60998/windows-8-bit-locker-encrypted-drive-not-found-or-access-denied?forum=w8itprosecurity it shows the bitlocker but as unlocked.  Drive still shows empty.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Markus

Ahh, turns out to be permission issue not bitlocker (or maybe bitlocker caused it to lose permissions, don't know).
Opened MyPc, right click on drive ->properties->security->advanced and selected apply to all.

  • G580 Can't Update Driver - "Access Denied"

I'm trying to update my drivers which was successful apart from the one for the Synaptics touchpad.  It starts to install but eventually aborts saying 'Access Denied' to a file called Thumbs...
My touchpad works fine but I thought it was always best to update the drivers? I was hoping the new driver would include a few more options for the touchpad as my old Acer laptop had a synaptics touchpad but with many more options to configure.   I'm using the official driver from this site and I've double checked I've downloaded the right one for Windows 7. I'm already logged on as administrator and I've tried opening the setup file as an administrator but nothing works.
Does anyone know what the problem could be?  Is it even worth updating this particular driver, the one on my system dates back to April 2011.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

  • MSI 965 Platinum slow dvd drive access - is it a Jmicron issue

I am having a bit  a problem. I just built this system and installed windows xp sp2 without a single hitch. However while I was installing various drivers and such for the components I noticed that the DVD ROM was slow to respond. The hard drive is under SATA #1 and the DVD ROM is in the only ide port on the board. When I installed windows and the subsequent MSI drivers disk I did not tell it to install any jmicron drivers what so ever. I was wondering what is the proper set up for this configuration ie. bios setting and should I install any of the jmicron drivers and which jmicron drivers to install. I do not care about having any RAID functionality.
    Thanks

Let me clarify this situation a little more. Like I said earlier I just build this system and did not have any problems installing windows xp. I do not recall exactly which bios setting I changed so my IDE DVD-RW drive was recognized but the setting had something to do with raid/ide/disable. I think. Anyhow, upon boot up it recognized my IDE DVD-RW drive and correctly booted the windows xp sp2 cd. I went through the setup menu for xp and created one large partition. It recognized my SATA drive as being 230 or 240 GB when in actuality it is a 250. No problem with me. I formated the HD. It took about an hour to format the whole drive. Next, it loaded windows xp which took about 15 minutes or so. When the OS started I used the included MSI disk to load the network, intel and sound drivers. I did not choose to load the jmicron driver because of the horror stories I have read. After I loaded the MSI drivers I installed my video card driver and monitor driver/software. It was when it started to install the video card driver that I noticed the drive acting a little weird. By weird I mean slow access and it was giving me an when it would try to "autoplay" the EVGA driver disk. Anyhow, eventually it started and I was able to install the video card drivers. After everything loaded I decided to load a few CD's. Mostly data and music CDs. On some of the data cd's the access times seemed slow. Like 10 - 15 seconds for xp to negotiate with the DVD drive. So, I thought there must be a connection with not installing the Jmicron drivers. However, my system is incredibly stable. It has not had one hiccup. I even installed NWN2 and played it for several hours without any issues. Since this is my first SATA drive I do not know what the devise manager is supposed to look like. Nor did I really know what to exaclty set the bios at the get the best performance and stability from the system. When I look in the device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers there are several items listed in this order
    Intel(R) ICH8 2 port Serial ATA Controller - 2825
    Intel(R) ICH8 2 port Serial ATA Controller - 2820
    Primary IDE Channel
    Primary IDE Channel
    Primary IDE Channel
    Secondary IDE Channel
    Secondary IDE Channel
    Secondary IDE Channel
Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
    My questions/concerns are as follows.
What are the proper settings in the bios for a SATA HD connected to one of the six SATA port (not JMicron) and a IDE DVD-RW connected to the IDE Jmicron port?
Do you have to install the Jmicron drivers for the IDE port and if so will it compromise the stability of the system?
Which Jmicron driver do I install? ( I don't know if there is more than one just asking incase there are different ones)
Is this the way the device manage is supposed to look? (see above)

  • Drive Access denied

when i try to open my D:/ drive that is on my laptop, it displays an error "D:/ is not accessible. access is denied". i tried to change the security settings but there's no security tab in the properties menu.i even logged in as super administrator
but the result is same. i even tried to open it through command prompt, even then the result is same. please help me out...i have all the important data on the drive...

    Hi,
No Security tab can be caused due to the file system of Drive D is not NTFS.
Please right click on Drive D and click Properties to check the file system. If the file system is FAT32, you may perform the following steps to convert
it to NTFS. After that, you can modify the permission settings under Security tab.
NOTE: Although the possibility of corruption or data loss during the conversion is minimal, it is recommended that you perform a backup of the data on
the volume that needs to be converted before starting the conversion.
To convert an existing FAT or FAT32 volume to NTFS, please follow these steps:
    1. Click "Start", click "All programs", and click "Accessories".
    2. Right-click "Command Prompt", and click "Run as administrator".
    3. In "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type the following command and press Enter.
    CONVERT %drive letter%: /FS:NTFS
%drive letter% is the driver that you want to convert. For example, type the following command to convert the E Drive to NTFS:
    CONVERT E: /FS:NTFS
    3. When the following message is displayed in the command prompt window, type the volume label of the drive that you are converting, and then press ENTER:
The type of the file system is FAT.
Enter the current volume label for drive %drive letter%:
Type any character string for the Volume Label. If you just press Enter, it will assign "Local Disk" as the default Volume Label.
    4. When the conversion to NTFS is complete, the following line is displayed in the command prompt window:
    "Conversion complete"
    5. Quit the command prompt.
    Does it work?

  • Encore Notification: Access Denied

    CS4 Encore
The project is checked, no problems
    First DVD went fine
2nd DVD gets access denied notice after transcoding before burn.
    Failed completed.
    Brand new hard drive
I've disabled the second disc drive.
    Disabled security
    Disconnected the internet
Shrank the project to fit DVD

    Thank you Raj,
Right now we are muscling through these projects and things are going "alright" but still a little hinky.
At least I remember to reboot now.
My wife says that when she is working in Encore she usually forgets to close Premire Pro anyway. We'll have to run tests to see if there is a consistent trigger.
We can't decipher all the nuances immediately because the family we're doing this for is getting together this weekend and we are transfering their three kid's wedding videos from the ninties onto DVD to be given to them while they are here.
After this weekend we are going to figure it out issue by issue.
You people are the best, thank you so much,

  • Help! Can't access the DVD drive on laptop

When selecting the D:/ drive, I get an error message that says D:/ not accessible.  Access Denied.  The DVD drive won't read music or data disks.  The light comes on and the disk spins but then the dialog box comes up and says not accessible, access denied.  I checked for drive updates but the last one was in 2001.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the drive but now I get a message that says no D:/ drive installed!

  • "Access Denied" DVD DL Encores CS4 in Win7 64b

Hello, I am new to this forum, so please bear with me on this. I, like others, have bounced off the "access denied" error when burning dvd+r dl in Encore CS-4. I did attempt the fix listed for vista, but I am using Win7 and have not been able to get it to work. Any solutions. Much appreciated. CR

I, too, am running into this problem. My files were on an external drive and so I had hoped this was the pro
blem but I just transfered to an internal SATA and re-created the project and I am still getting this error.
I would prefer to not have to use yet another program to create my DL DVD as Encore is supposed to be able to support this.
I am running win7 64b OS as an administrator and have all the latest CS4 updates. Help!

  • No access to DVD Drive - error code 38

The driver update published 07/07/08 at 23:59 was installed on my system as directed by Toshiba Tempo but on restarting my machine I have error 38 (according to Vista) that prevents the new driver installing as the old driver is resident in memory..?? Effectively this means that I cannot access or see my DVD drive anymore other than in the Device Manager page of Control Panel. The rollback driver option is not available, possibly as it was a firmware update. The message in the Device Properties page is as follows:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)
The updatre installed was frmwre-20080707134447. It includes an Adobe document that tells you what to do and how to ensure that your drive requires updating, all of which was easy to follow and tied in with my machine.
I have tried uninstalling the device and driver, but each time I reload it the same error occurs.
I am really unimpressed and fairly annoyed, as this is a Toshiba recommended firmware update done using their Tempo system, any thoughts or advice welcome.
    Thanks
    Matt

    Hi
Do you see a CD/DVD drive in the device manager?
If yes, then remove it from the device list.
Then access the registry and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Finally reboot the notebook and check if the CD/DVD drive would functions again

  • Access denied to external Hard Drive on Windows 7?

    Hey,
Thanks in Advance for your help. Yesterday I downloaded and installed Windows 7 (which looks like its going to be a massive improvement on Vista!!). Though I had a problem when I tried to open my external Hard drive (which is an Internal hard drive in an enclosure ":H"). An error message pops up every time I double click it saying that access to this drive is denied.
This used to happen when I would change from PC to PC but was able to fix it using instructions from this Link http://www.le.ac.uk/cc/dsss/docs/acls2.shtml
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards

    Folks,
I faced a similar problem when trying to move a NTFS formatted disk from XP to windows 7. I tried suggestions on various forums but nothing worked. Finally though, i was able to identify the root cause empirically and fix it.
    1. In my understanding, Windows 7 interprets the permissions on a NTFS drive very strictly. Hence while a NTFS HDD with tweaked security settings - say with only administrator access/ownership under security tab may work perfectly in XP, OS X, Ubuntu etc
, Win 7 will show you access denied unless permissions for ALL of the following: AuthenticatedUsers, SYSTEM, Administrator & Users is set correctly (which is default for a newly formatted drive in windows)
    2. You can do this either manually by adding these one by one or by simply formatting the drive (this however is destructive for data).
    3. I therefore simply set the permissions correctly AFTER taking ownership of the drive and I was able to access the drive just fine.
    4. To prove that its merely a permission issue where Windows 7 is arguabily behaving correctly, before making any permission changes, try booting your computer in Safe Mode and you should be able to access your data just fine while you are in the Safe Mode.
    5. Lesson for me was to be very careful with NTFS permissions, especially while removing those present by default.
    6. I managed to solve the issue before seeing this thread. Hence i do not know if "foreign drive" solution below would have worked in my case.
To Microsoft: This solution should be WAY more easier to find on the net. Hell, its shouldn't even be a be a problem! Windows should be able to reset the permissions to default with a single click on a non encrypted NTFS drive if the person trying to do this
    has the administrator access.
Hope this allows people to save time and data.
    Cheers!

  • Getting access denied to modify anything on C Drive

    Hello,
I have a weird problem where I'm using IIS7.5 to host a website. The issue is, even though I am pointing to the correct folder of the files, when you view them from the web browser, you will get
401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.
If I try to modify the files or view the html files in notepad, it tells me "Access is denied". Im the only admin on the server. Some other issues are not being able to zip a folder or move to another drive. They all give me access denied. I've
tried everything and don't know what else to do. I've tried several registry edits I've found on the web and in the forums too.
One funky thing I should mention is, if I view the properties to a file, it is set as read only and when I uncheck it and click ok and return to the file properties again, read only is still selected.
I hope someone here can shed some light on this issue I'm having. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Kevin,
First make sure that the folders and files have necessary NTFS permission for the user.
